She cooked up her famous shrimp and grits, hoping to amaze a former NBA Champion, Festus Ezeli. “Mmm!” Ezeli said, after his first bite. Based upon several reactions like that, her hope became reality. Through his social media channel “Festus Feasts,” Ezeli aims to give a leg up to local restaurants. It started as a fun hobby. But one of his early posts about a small restaurant actually made a real impact on that business. “I got to play basketball for a living.” he said. “This community and many others, have really supported me to get to the position I’m in right now. I couldn’t have dreamt of this life. I want to give back.” So, how does he find the restaurants? Basically people recommend places. He and his team will reach out and go there. He’ll typically talk with the restaurant’s owner. “Tell me about having a restaurant in Oakland,” Ezeli asked McQueen. She says one of her challenges is that Town Fare is located inside the Oakland Museum, and sometimes people don’t know it exists. She believes Ezeli’s visit will help people learn about her restaurant. Adam Mesnick, an owner of a sandwich restaurant in San Francisco, says the “Festus Feasts effect” is real. “You feel the locals come in and say, ‘Hey, I saw Ezeli in here.’ I can imagine we’ll feel a lift for a long time coming.” Ezeli never thought his love for food and for the region would lead to this kind of help, but he’s grateful it has. He said, “The least we can do is support the people who are doing a good job. That’s all I’m trying to do.” 4. Why did Michele McQueen cook her famous shrimp and grits? A. To impress a well-known figure. B. To prepare for a cooking competition. C. To attract more visitors to the museum. D. To celebrate her restaurant’s new menu. 5. What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. manage. B. promote. C. reserve. D. select. 6. Why does the author mention Adam Mesnick in the passage? A. To prove the powerful influence of “Festus Feasts”. B. To explain how to manage a restaurant successfully. C. To introduce another popular local sandwich restaurant. D. To show local customers love talking about famous stars. 7. What words can best describe Festus Ezeli according to the passage? A. Modest and creative. B. Generous and ambitious. C. Caring and responsible. D. Considerate and humorous. 4. A 5. B 6. A 7. In a study published in the journal Cell Press Blue, researchers show that this early response plays a key role in whether a person becomes sick and how serious their symptoms become. The findings suggest that the body’s reaction to rhinovirus often matters more than the virus itself. To closely observe how nasal cells fight the virus, the research team made a lab model of human nasal tissue. They grew nasal cells for four weeks and let the top of the tissue be exposed to air. Using this model, the researchers were able to monitor how thousands of individual cells respond together. They also examined what happened when the cellular sensors (细胞传感器) responsible for finding rhinovirus were prevented. When nasal cells find rhinovirus, they release interferons (干扰素) that activate defenses, making it difficult for the virus to reproduce and spread. If interferon activity begins quickly, the virus can be controlled early. When the researchers held back this response, the virus spread rapidly, affecting many more cells and causing significant damage. The team notes that their model includes fewer cell types than are present in the human body. During the real situation, additional cells, including immune cells, are drawn to the site to help fight the virus. The researchers say that understanding how these additional cell types in the nasal passages and airways influence the body’s response to rhinovirus will be an important focus of future work. “The study advances the theory that the body’s responses to a virus, rather than the virus itself, are hugely important in determining whether or not a virus will cause illness and how serious the illness will be,” Foxman, a professor in Yale School of Medicine says, “Focusing on the response is an exciting way for novel cures.” 8. What did researchers do with the lab model? A. They prevented the entry of the virus. B. They examined the spread of the virus. C. They added interferons against the virus. D. They watched nasal cells’ reaction to the virus. 9. What will the researchers probably centre on next? A. Studying how other cells affect responses. B. Adding more cell types to their lab model. C. Developing new medicines to kill rhinovirus. D. Exploring ways to draw immune cells quickly. 10. What is Foxman’s attitude towards the study on rhinovirus? A. Critical. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. New Cures For Illnesses. B. Effective Ways Against Cold. C. Nasal Cells Control Viruses. D. Early Reaction Fights Rhinovirus. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第二段“To closely observe how nasal cells fight the virus, the research team made a lab model of human nasal tissue. With cities becoming larger worldwide and city environments becoming more challenging, keeping track of plant health has also become more difficult. Could artificial intelligence (AI) hold the key to addressing this challenge? Now a joint team led by Professor Umezu’s Laboratory at Waseda University and Professor Shiojiri’s at Ryukoku University developed “Plant Doctor”, an artificial intelligence-based tool for monitoring plant health. It is a hybrid AI system that automatically discovers city tree health through video footage captured by ordinary cameras. “Plant Doctor” combines two cutting-edge machine vision programs (算法) — YOLOv8 and DeepSORT — to identify and track individual leaves across video frames. The goal of these programs is to ensure that only the best images for each leaf are chosen for further processing. Then, a third program, called DeepLabV3Plus, performs detailed image segmentation (图像分割) to precisely judge leaf damage. The system can automatically find diseased areas on individual leaves, such as spots caused by bacteria, pests, and fungi. One of the most attractive aspects of this approach is cost efficiency. The system can deal with video footage collected by countless cameras, turning routine services into opportunities to gather data without investing huge resources. Moreover, by using images rather than actual branches and leaves, “Plant Doctor” minimizes the damage to the plants in the process. The research team confirm the system using footage of city plants in Tokyo, gaining favorable results and remarkably accurate leaf health judgement across various city plants. Worth noting, beyond applications in the city, “Plant Doctor” could also be adapted for agricultural use, helping farmers monitor crop health and identify diseases before they spread. Overall, the technology represents a significant step toward more sustainable plant health monitoring in the city and countryside, allowing plant experts to focus more on strategic measures rather than regular monitoring. 12. Why was “Plant Doctor” developed? A. To help grow more plants in city areas. B. To find the causes of plant diseases directly. C. To take the place of city cameras completely. D. To solve difficulties in traditional plant monitoring. 13. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The goals of the programs. B. The advantages of the system. C. The working process of the system. D. The methods of processing leaves. 14. What is one of the advantages of “Plant Doctor”? A. It causes no damage to the plants. B. It helps cut down on resource spending. C. It depends on a small number of cameras. D. It gives correct results by using real leaves. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To stress the importance of AI application. B. To promote the wide use of smart cameras. C. To offer strategic measures to preserve plants. D. To introduce an AI tool for monitoring plant health. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. B 15. D 【解析】 【导语】本文介绍一款人工智能植物监测工具,解决城市植物健康监测难题,讲解其工作原理、优势与应用前景。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“With cities becoming larger worldwide and city environments becoming more challenging, keeping track of plant health has also become more difficult. Could artificial intelligence (AI) hold the key to addressing this challenge?(随着全球城市规模扩大、城市环境变复杂,监测植物健康变得更难,人工智能能否解决这一难题)”以及第二段“developed “Plant Doctor”, an artificial intelligence-based tool for monitoring plant health.(研发出了 “植物医生”,这是一款基于人工智能、用于监测植物健康的工具)”可知,研发该工具是为了解决传统植物监测的困难。 【13题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中的“combines two cutting-edge machine vision programs to identify and track individual leaves(结合两种前沿视觉算法识别、追踪叶片)”以及“performs detailed image segmentation to precisely judge leaf damage(进行图像分割,精准判断叶片受损情况)”可知,本段全程介绍这套系统从识别叶片到判断病害的完整运作步骤。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“One of the most attractive aspects of this approach is cost efficiency. As a delivery rider, he had just finished a few smooth orders, his hands warm from the hot milk tea cups he’d been carrying, and his spirits fairly good. Stepping out of a milk tea shop, he found the spot where his second-hand electric bike had been parked now empty. In an instant, his heart sank, and a wave of hopelessness swept over him, turning his calm evening into a nightmare. That bike was far more than just a vehicle; it was his lifeline, the only way for him to earn daily income and cover his living expenses. Panic set in as he remembered the undelivered orders — especially a cup of hot milk tea for Ms. White, a regular customer. His hand trembled as he pressed the voice button, his words laced with sorrow and anxiety as he apologized repeatedly, offering to pay for the undelivered drink. To his great surprise, Ms. White did not respond with anger or complaint, but with gentle kindness. Ms. White told him not to worry and to take his time finding his bike. Her understanding words calmed him, but also deepened his sense of responsibility. “She is so kind. I cannot let her down,” he thought. For nearly two hours, he searched every nearby street, but there was no sign of his bike. As night grew darker and the wind bit harder, Jack clenched his fists and made a firm decision. He took out his poor savings, bought a bag of fresh apples and a new cup of hot milk tea, then set off on foot to Ms. White’s apartment, several kilometers away. The wind bit into his thin jacket, and his old shoes grew heavy with mud, but the thought of keeping his promise and maintaining his integrity kept him moving forward through the dimly lit urban landscape. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Finally, breathless, Jack reached Ms. White’s doorstep and rang the bell. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Deeply moved by Jack’s action, Ms. White decided to share the story online that night. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Finally, breathless, Jack reached Ms. White’s doorstep and rang the bell. The door opened, revealing a woman whose expression shifted from curiosity to surprise and then to heartfelt sympathy as she saw the exhausted man before her. His clothes were dusty, but the gifts in his hands were held with care. “Ms. White, these are for you,” he grinned, offering the apples and milk tea. “Wishing you happiness and good health. I am truly sorry about the delay.” Tears welled up in Ms. White’s eyes. “Oh, Jack! You shouldn’t have walked such a long way just for this!” she said, her voice soft with emotion for his unshakable honesty, even amid his own misfortune! Deeply moved by Jack’s action, Ms. White decided to share the story online that night. She posted a video describing what happened, writing, “Even when caught in his own storm, he still reached out to warm others.” The post quickly went viral, receiving millions of likes and shares. Strangers were touched by the ordinary man’s extraordinary act. The wave of kindness soon reached his delivery company. They promptly responded, providing Jack with a brand-new e-bike and a cash reward to support his honest work. Even more wonderfully, with the help of numerous alert eyes online, his original bike was located and returned. 词汇激活 行为类 ①展示:reveal/show/display ②走红:go viral/spread widely/become popular ③定位,找到:locate/find/discover/track down 情绪类 ①由衷的同情:heartfelt sympathy/sincere concern/genuine pity ②疲惫不堪的:exhausted/tired out/worn-out/fatigued 【点睛】[高分句型1] The door opened, revealing a woman whose expression shifted from curiosity to surprise and then to heartfelt sympathy as she saw the exhausted man before her. 1. B In the kitchen of Oakland restaurant Town Fare, chef and owner Michele McQueen prepared for an upcoming reservation. “It’s going to bring a big awareness to Town Fare,” she said. C When rhinovirus (鼻病毒), the most common cause of the common cold, enters the nasal passages (鼻腔), the cells lining the nose activate a wide range of defenses designed to limit the virus and stop it from spreading. D Monitoring city plant health traditionally requires lots of physical labor and plant knowledge. C. Tired of constant exhaustion, many people turn to these drinks for a quick energy boost. ____16____. Some worry about their potential side effects, such as increased anxiety, difficulty falling asleep, and even potential long-term harm to physical health. Do energy drinks really boost energy? Energy drinks are categorized as beverages for special purposes. They typically contain a mix of caffeine, vitamins, and other so-called “functional ingredients” such as taurine, ginseng, and guarana. ____17____Consuming energy drinks during late-night study sessions or long work hours might give a temporary lift, but that’s only part of the story. ____18____ Obviously, it is risky to overconsume energy drinks. With their sweet, refreshing taste, many people treat them like regular soft drinks, without realizing the amount of caffeine and sugar they’re taking in. A scientific consensus recommends that healthy adults limit caffeine intake to no more than 400 mg per day, but a single can or bottle of energy drink may contain 50 mg to over 500 mg of caffeine. So it’s easy to exceed safe levels without realizing it, leading to insomnia, nervousness, and even dependence. Moreover, energy drinks can negatively impact the blood vessels. ____19____ Are energy drinks for everyone? ____20____People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, underage, dealing with digestive conditions, taking medications, or consuming alcohol should avoid energy drinks to prevent potential health risks. In short, energy drinks’ short-term benefits cannot make up for their long-term risks. A. Do energy drinks have side effects? B. Can energy drinks easily be overconsumed? C. Despite their popularity, there come rising concerns. D. Too much intake may cause serious damage to organs. E. All of these ingredients are believed to help reduce fatigue. F. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
