Chu Wenwen, a young wildlife protector, introduced how young people in China have made a difference for endangered Mengxin beavers
Since she was 2, Chu has been interested in wildlife because her father was a wildlife researcher. With no other children around, beavers and other wild animals became her “best friends”. At 7, Chu got her first camera and began to take pictures of animals. In 2015, she founded a nature photography studio and has taken more than 75,000 videos and photos of wildlife. The next year, she joined a nature protecting organization focusing on beavers.
Mengxin beavers can improve the environment by building dams (水坝) that provide new living environments for small animals. Therefore, these beaver dams help increase biodiversity
In 2017, Chu graduated from a university in Beijing. Unlike most of her classmates who chose to stay, she went back to her hometown out of love for nature. Seeing beavers die of food shortage, she launched the beaver canteen (食堂) program in 2018, which attracted over one million people to donate snack money to provide food for beavers. Since then, she has been called “princess beaver” by her followers. Thanks to these young people’s efforts, the number of beavers has increased greatly over the past four years.
Also in 2018, Chu’s nature protecting organization got official recognition of the local government. With its help, she started “Beaver Guardian” project which trained local people to save animals from being killed. “I am lucky to live in such a great time when young people can achieve their dreams while the country strongly supports nature protection,” she said.
26.Why did Chu make friends with beavers in her childhood?

29.Why did Chu start “Beaver Guardian” project?

Have you ever heard of the British Library? It is one of the largest research libraries in the world. It has more than 170 million collections, including 14 million books and plenty of ancient manuscripts People can enjoy great works by Mozart and Shakespeare there. It also keeps special Chinese treasures: more than 450 oracle bones (甲骨文) from over three thousand years ago in the Shang Dynasty (朝代) and the Diamond Sutra, the world’s earliest dated printed book.
Recently, 16 Chinese online novels have been collected by the British Library as the first Chinese web novels in it. Readers can look up the information about the 16 books on the library’s website and borrow printed copies in the library.
They are now in the library’s Asian & African collections, such as The Wisdom of the Great Song Dynasty, Good Spring Time and Magic World. Covering history, reality and fantasy, these works are seen as the great classics of Chinese online literature in the past 20 years.

Good Spring Time pays much attention to Chinese porcelain (瓷器) culture. It tells people to fight against fate (命运) actively and shows women’s independence and the warm love among family members. Readers can learn about a great and wonderful China from the traditions, friendship and beauty in the novel.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is very powerful and useful in many areas, but it cannot predict (预测) winning lottery (彩票)numbers, according to a recent report made by China Sports Lottery and the Guangdong Sports Lottery Center. The report explained that the winning numbers are chosen by chance, and no technology, including AI, can predict them. It called on lottery ticket buyers not to believe in so-called AI prediction tools.
Following the popularity of DeepSeek, a free AI-powered chat robot, many types of lottery number prediction services that make use of AI technology have appeared. According to an online post, a man bought lottery tickets using the numbers provided by Al service providers for 19 days, but his losses increased each time.
Anyone promising to increase the chances of winning through AI technology is fraudulent. Posts about winning the lottery through AI technology are mostly created by AI software (软件) providers, serving as marketing advertisements to attract users to download the software, the report said. Some software platforms offer free trial periods. If users win by accident, they try to advise them to pay for better predictions. However, these predictions are not real.
AI technologies have performed excellently in fields like healthcare and mathematics, as there are models. However, lottery draws (抽奖) are events with no models, making them unpredictable. The official lottery drawing process depends on the use of physical drawing machines, where the movement of each ball is influenced by airflow and other factors (因素), making it completely unpredictable and uncontrollable. Also, past lottery results do not influence future results. As a result, even with powerful AI tools like DeepSeek, it’s impossible to predict the next winning numbers.
36.What is the main purpose of the recent report?
A.To introduce a powerful AI tool. B.To point out the disadvantages of AI.
C.To protect lottery buyers from being cheated. D.To make a lottery number prediction.
37.From the second paragraph, we can know the man ________.
A.won a big prize every day B.lost money in total
C.became a famous lottery expert D.decided not to buy lottery tickets anymore
38.What does the underlined word “fraudulent” mean in the third paragraph?
A.Helpful. B.Careless. C.Clever. D.Dishonest.
39.Why do software platforms offer free trial periods?
A.To test their software. B.To help people win the lottery.
C.To cheat users out of money. D.To save money for lottery buyers.
40.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Why AI tools fail to make the prediction.
B.How the winning numbers are decided.
C.Whether there are patterns in lottery draws.
D.What influences the lottery drawing process.

A.Because beavers were endangered animals.
B.Because her father asked her to study beavers.
C.Because there were no other children around her.
D.Because she was interested in beavers’ footprints.
27.According to Paragraph 3, what do we know about beaver dams?
A.They help increase the population of beavers.
B.They create new living places for small animals.
C.They are mainly built to store food for the winter.
D.They are useful to improve water quality in rivers.
28.What can we infer from the success of the beaver canteen program?
A.The beaver canteen can make snacks for beavers.
B.Online program is a good way to increase popularity.
C.The public are willing to support wildlife protection.
D.Many working chances are provided by this program.
29.Why did Chu start “Beaver Guardian” project?
A.To train local people to save animals.
B.To protect beavers from food shortage.
C.To attract more people who like beavers.
D.To help young people achieve their dreams.
30.What’s the correct order of the following events in Chu’s life?
①Internet users donated money to beaver canteen.
②Chu began to record wildlife through her camera.
③Chu graduated from university and returned to her hometown.
④The local government officially recognized Chu’s organization.

27.第三段提到“Mengxin beavers can improve the environment by building dams that provide new living environments for small animals.”,说明河狸建造的水坝为小动物提供了新的生存环境,这是水坝的直接作用,也间接提升了生物多样性。
28.第四段提到“which attracted over one million people to donate snack money to provide food for beavers”,说明公众愿意捐款支持河狸食堂项目,体现了大众对野生动物保护的支持。
29.第五段提到“she started ‘Beaver Guardian’ project which trained local people to save animals from being killed.”,说明“河狸守护者”项目的目的是培训当地人保护动物,避免它们被杀害。
30.按时间顺序梳理事件:第二段“At 7, Chu got her first camera and began to take pictures of animals.”说明她7岁开始用相机记录野生动物,对应②;第四段“In 2017, Chu graduated from a university in Beijing... she went back to her hometown”介绍她2017年大学毕业返乡,对应③;第四段“she launched the beaver canteen (食堂) program in 2018, which attracted over one million people to donate snack money”介绍2018年河狸食堂项目收到捐款,对应①;最后一段“Also in 2018, Chu’s nature protecting organization got official recognition of the local government.”

【答案】36.C 37.B 38.D 39.C 40.A
根据第一段最后一句“It called on lottery ticket buyers not to believe in so-called AI prediction tools”以及全文揭露AI预测彩票是骗局的内容可知,报告的主要目的是保护购彩者免受欺骗。
39.根据第三段中间部分“If users win by accident, they try to advise them to pay for better predictions. However, these predictions are not real.”

The next day at the show, my model wasn’t perfect and I didn’t 60 a prize. For years, I was angry with Dad. 61 when I grew up, I still remembered that heartbroken moment.
I didn’t understand Dad until a similar experience happened to my son. Several years ago, while my son was making a model plane, he broke one of the wings. And I decided to fix it for 62 . Suddenly, Dad’s words came into my mind: “Fix it yourself.” At that moment, I started to understand. Dad just wanted me to 63 some basic skills which would be useful in the future. I gave the model plane back to my son and smiled, “Have a 64 ! You can fix it by yourself.”
Dad didn’t say nice words to me, but he had his own way to teach me a lesson—I should 65 myself. It was one of the most important qualities that made me a better person.

根据“Mum always wore a warm smile, but ...”
to“到”、till“直到”、after“在……
前文“The night ... the show”表明修理是在晚上,应用night。
此处指代前文的my son,应用him。
“You can fix it by yourself.”
take on“承担”、turn on“打开”、carry on“继续”均与“独立解决问题”的主题不符。
The 2026 Spring Festival film season kicked off with “Pegasus 3,” which won millions of hearts. Directed by Han Han and starring Shen Teng, the movie has become the 66 (big) hit of the holiday. It earned over 3 billion yuan in just four days, 67 (win) praise of all ages.
The film continues the story of Zhang Chi, a middle-aged racer who never gives up on his dream. In the movie, Zhang Chi and his friend Sun Yuqiang form a team 68 (take) part in the Macau 1000 endurance race. Unlike other films about 69 (person) achievement, this one shows teamwork and group effort. In a world that often cares too much about quick 72 (succeed), the film reminds us that true happiness comes from never giving up. It is a story that 73 (encourage) and touches the hearts of many people.
74 (compare) with other films, this film is not only a wonderful one at the box office but also such an encouraging story about how to chase dreams. We should be aware that keeping 75 (try) is the key to realizing dreams and the journey itself with all its hardships and efforts is where the true value lies.
66.biggest 67.winning 68.to take 69.personal 70.directors 71.themselves 72.success 73.encourages 74.Compared 75.trying
此处“...part in the Macau 1000 endurance race”是“form a team”的目的,要用动词不定式作目的状语,所以填to take。
keep doing sth.

An important choice I’ve made
Life is full of choices, big or small. Some are easy, while others require careful thought. Looking back, I find that an important choice I’ve made is to face difficulties bravely instead of giving up.
Last term, I was weak in English and wanted to give up learning it. However, I chose to keep working hard. I got up early to memorize words every morning and listened to English songs in my free time. Whenever I met difficult problems, I asked my teachers and classmates for help.
Slowly, my English improved a lot. This choice teaches me that nothing is impossible if I stick to it. It also makes me become more confident and strong-willed in my life.
