Last weekend, I joined a volunteer activity at the Green Leaf Community Garden with my classmates. Our goal was to help take care of the garden and learn how to grow vegetables—something I’d never tried before.
We met at the garden gate at 9:00 a.m. A local farmer, Uncle Wang, was in charge of guiding us. First, he showed us around the garden. There were rows of tomato vines, green peppers, and even some sunflowers that reached as tall as a basketball hoop. “These vegetables are for the elderly in the nearby neighborhood,” Uncle Wang explained. “They can pick fresh veggies for free every weekend.”
Our first task was to weed the vegetable beds. At first, I couldn’t tell the difference between weeds and young tomato plants. Luckily, my classmate Lily helped me—she’s been helping her grandma grow vegetables since she was little. After weeding, we watered the plants. Uncle Wang told us not to pour too much water, or the roots would rot.
In the afternoon, we got to plant pumpkin seeds. I dug a small hole, put two seeds in it and covered them with soil. Uncle Wang said if we were lucky, we’d see small sprouts in about a week. “Watching plants grow is like watching a small miracle,” he smiled.
Before leaving, we picked some ripe cherry tomatoes. They were sweet and juicy—much better than the ones in the supermarket! I also took a small bag of pumpkin seeds home. I want to try growing them on my balcony.
This volunteer trip taught me more than just gardening skills. It made me understand how much work goes into growing food, and how important it is to share with others. I’m already looking forward to our next trip to the garden!

Reading books is one of the oldest and most valuable activities for humans. For thousands of years, people have recorded knowledge, stories and ideas in books, making them an important part of culture.
The earliest books were not like the ones we have today. In ancient Egypt, people wrote on papyrus rolls. In China, bamboo slips were used to record information before paper was invented. It wasn’t until the 15th century that the printing press was created by Johannes Gutenberg. This invention made books cheaper and easier to produce, so more people could read them.
Today, reading books still brings many benefits to people of all ages. First, reading improves our vocabulary and language skills. When we read, we meet new words and learn how to use them in different contexts. This helps us become better speakers and writers. Second, reading exercises our brains. It makes us think critically and imagine scenes, which keeps our minds active. Studies show that people who read regularly have better memory and concentration. Third, reading reduces stress. Getting lost in a good book can help us forget our worries for a while and relax.
However, some people now spend less time reading books because of smartphones and computers. They prefer short videos or social media posts. But these forms of entertainment are often short-lived and don’t give the same benefits as reading. If you want to start reading more, you can choose books on topics you like—such as adventure stories, science books or biographies. Even reading for 15-20 minutes a day can make a difference.
26. What does the underlined word “benefits” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?
A. 风险 B. 益处 C. 挑战 D. 成本
27. When was the printing press invented?
A. In the 15th century. B. Before paper was invented in China.
C. In ancient Egypt. D. Thousands of years ago.
28. Which of the following is NOT a benefit of reading books?
A. Improving vocabulary and language skills. B. Helping people relax and reduce stress.
C. Making books cheaper to produce. D. Exercising the brain and improving memory.
29. Why do some people read fewer books now?
A. Because they find books too expensive. B. Because they don’t have enough time to read.
C. Because they prefer smart phones and computers for entertainment. D. Because they think reading is not useful for daily life.
30. What is the writer’s advice for people who want to read more?
A. Read only classic books. B. Read for at least an hour every day.
C. Ask friends to read together. D. Choose books on topics they are interested in.
【答案】26. B 27. A 28. C 29. C 30. D
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了书籍的发展历史以及阅读对人们的诸多益处,同时也提到了当下人们阅读时间减少的现象并给出了阅读建议。

【27题详解】
第二段指出“It wasn’t until the 15th century that the printing press was created by Johannes Gutenberg.”,印刷术是在15世纪发明的。
【28题详解】
第三段列举了阅读的好处:“First, reading improves our vocabulary and language skills...Second, reading exercises our brains... Third, reading reduces stress.”,而“Making books cheaper to produce”是印刷机发明带来的结果,并非阅读本身的益处。

第四段提到“However, some people now spend less time reading books because of smartphones and computers. They prefer short videos or social media posts.”,人们读书少是因为更喜欢用手机和电脑娱乐。

“______, you can manage most small wounds”,此处需要一个副词,在句中修饰整个句子。因为空格位于句首,需要副词来修饰整句话,所以将形容词lucky变为副词形式luckily,首字母大写。
【44题详解】
句意:以下是一些基础的急救技巧。“The following ______ some basic”,此处需要一个be动词,在句中构成主系表结构。The following作主语时,谓语动词的单复数取决于它所指代的内容。这里指代“some basic first-aid skills.”,多项技能,所以用are。
【45题详解】
句意:要做的第一件事是快速止血。“The first thing to ______ is to stop”,此处需要一个动词原形,在不定式结构中作后置定语。因为固定搭配the first thing to do表示“要做的第一件事”,不定式后要用动词原形,所以选择do。
【46题详解】
句意:小的割伤和擦伤通常可以自行愈合。“usually heal on ______ own.”,此处需要一个形容词性物主代词,在句中修饰名词own。因为固定搭配on one’s own表示“独自、自行”,指代前文复数名词,所以将主格they变为形容词性物主代词their。
【47题详解】
句意:这可能需要几秒钟或几分钟。“It could take a few ______ or minutes.”,此处需要一个可数名词复数,和minutes构成并列结构。因为or连接并列的时间名词,minutes为复数形式,所以将second变为复数形式seconds。
【48题详解】
句意:记住,流血时如果你的手很脏,就不要触碰伤口。“Remember not to touch it ______ your hands”,此处需要一个连词,在句中引导条件状语从句。因为句子是假设条件逻辑,if意为“如果”,用来引出假设情况。
【49题详解】
句意:接下来,清洗伤口以避免感染是很有必要的。“Next, it’s ______ to wash”,此处需要一个形容词,在固定句型中作表语。因为固定句型It’s+形容词+to do sth.表示“做某事是……的”,所以选择形容词necessary。
【50题详解】
句意:当绷带变湿或变脏时,尽快更换以避免再次感染。“When the bandage gets ______ or dirty”,此处需要一个形容词,和dirty并列作系动词gets的表语。因为空格与dirty并列描述绷带的状态,所以选择形容词wet。
【51题详解】
句意:在结痂之后,将伤口置于新鲜空气中,这样它就能很快愈合。“______ a scab forms”,此处需要一个连词,在句中引导时间状语从句。因为句子体现动作的先后顺序,after表示“在……之后”,首字母大写。
