Four Questions for a Robot Maker
“Glad to choose the robot maker as my job. I’m on the road with those creative (有创造力的) children.”

He raised his eyebrows and looked angrily at us. Then he noticed the basket. “Spaseeba,” he said softly. That means “thank you” in Russian. “Pysanky eggs!” He said as he looked closely. “I haven’t seen these since I left my homeland.”
“We didn’t throw those eggs at your door, Mr. Kodinski,” we told him.
He looked at us for a minute. “Well, then, you have great courage to be here. Chutzpah, you have chutzpah!” Then his eyes shone and his mouth curled into a warm smile.“Come, have some tea with me.”

A.Because they used up all the wax.
B.Because they didn’t have money to buy anything.

Volunteering is a great way to make the world better, and helping in museums is especially meaningful. Museum volunteers take on different duties according to their skills or interests. In the visitor information centre, they sell tickets, keep luggage (行李) and answer questions. For guided tours, they share exhibitions and help visitors appreciate. When museum events are held, they help in workshops, talk to visitors, and document (记载) exhibits and events.
China has several fantastic museums. The Palace Museum was built in 1925. With wonderful buildings and art treasures inside, it is well-known to people all around the world. Museum volunteering is good for both volunteers and the community. For example, Wenwei, a history teacher, loves giving tours and sharing stories, while Niuchen turns her interest into a job. Siyue, an 18-year-old student, learns a lot and makes her IT skills better.

Four Questions for a Robot Maker
“Glad to choose the robot maker as my job. I’m on the road with those creative (有创造力的) children.”
——Kelsey Derringer
*Do you always want to work with robots?
No—I was an English teacher! I started working in an after-school club for girls and learned to make robots along with the children. And I became interested in it.

1.I didn’t go to bed ________ my mother came home last night.
A.however B.because C.so D.until
【答案】D
【知识点】because、however、so(这样 pron.)、until、till/until引导时间状语从句
however无论怎样,because因为,so所以,until直到。not....until…:直到……
2.—Betty, which of the two dresses will you choose?
—Both are nice, so ________ is OK. The other is for Lucy.
A.either B.neither C.all D.both
【答案】A
【知识点】all(全部的 adj.)、both、either、neither、both/all/none、either/neither
根据“Both are nice, so … is OK. The other is for Lucy.” 故选A。
3.We ________ six days a week, but now we only work five days.
A.used work B.used to work C.used to working D.are used to work
【答案】B
【知识点】be used to doing sth.、be used to sth.、used to do sth.、动词短语、固定搭配/句型、used to do sth.
used work结构错误;used to work过去常常工作;used to working结构错误,少了be动词;are used to work被用于工作。used to do sth表示“过去常常做某事”,过去时。be used to doing sth表示“习惯于做某事”;be used to do sth表示“被用来做某事”,被动语态。根据“but now we only work five days.”
4.There happened a traffic accident The reporters set out ________ the truth just now.
A.finding B.find C.to find D.found

enjoy ourselves玩得开心;become rich变得富有;have a trip去旅行;make a decision做决定。根据“If you save some money each week, we can go on holiday.”
6.The saying “the early bird catches the worm” tells us ________.
A.why we should take early action B.what we can do to save birds
C.when we should have breakfast D.how birds find food in the morning
【答案】A
7.Unfortunately, my younger sister _____ off a bike and ____ her leg.
A.fell, hurt B.felt, hurted C.felt, hurt D.falled, hurted
【答案】A
【知识点】fall、feel、hurt(hurt hurt)、动词辨析
故选A。

before在……之前;when当……时候;since自从;after在……
9.—CCTV has produced a TV show —Chinese Poetry Competition. Have you seen it?
—Sure. Wu Yishu, 16, _______ studies at the High School Affiliated to Fudan, is the winner.
A.which B.where C.who D.whom
【答案】C
【知识点】where、which、who、whom、who/whom/whose引导非限制性定语从句

American boys and girls love to watch television. It often takes some children six hours a day in school and four to six hours a day in front of the television. Some even watch television for eight hours or more on Saturday.
Televisions are like books or films. A child can learn bad things and good things from them.
