In 2020, fresh out of high school, I had difficulty in choosing a major before college. With only two options left, I was in deep trouble. My uncle, an influential person in the family, suggested that I should do a work placement (实习) to gain experience for a month in a bank followed by a month in a hospital so that I could make a decision. It seemed like a brilliant idea.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. While hospital was full of excitement, the training was challenging. It seemed that the bank was going to win out.
Then one day when I was driving home from the hospital, I witnessed a terrible accident. Two cars crashed, causing a boy lying motionless in the middle of the road. People gathered around him but no one could really help. As a matter of fact, I wanted to keep going and ignored it, but the urge to stop and help was stronger. I got out of my car and tried to stop his bleeding but didn’t succeed. With the help of some bystanders, I lifted his unconscious body into the back seat of my car, and rushed him to the hospital.
The next day, the doctor introduced me as “the person who saved your son’s life” to the boy’s parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Everyone got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. The boy, now managed a smile though unable to speak.
What a feeling it was to help save the life of another person! I spent the rest of the day in a state of excitement. Driving home that evening, I knew what I would prefer for the rest of my life.

A. The injured boy lost his life on the spot.
B. The writer saved the boy without hesitation.
C. The writer managed to stop the boy’s bleeding.

26. From the end of the story, what can we know?
A. The writer would be a medical student.
B. The writer regretted what he had done.
C. The writer decided to work in a bank.
D. The writer still had no idea what major to choose.
27. What does the writer want to convey through his story?

Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when we worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources.
Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.
The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.
Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not.
“What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test fear and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these tests.”
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.
28. What do the students start worrying about before an exam according to Paragraph 1?
A. What other students do during the test.
B. Whether they can pass the exam.
C. Whether they have remembered the materials.
D. What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper.
29. What is the solution developed by researchers?
A. Making the students focused on the test.
B. Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
C. Having the students write about their worries about the test.
D. Asking the students to direct the attention away from the test.
30. According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test ______.
A. did worse than those who wrote about their feelings
B. became less nervous before the test
C. were better at controlling their feelings
D. did better than those who wrote about their feelings
31. What’s the writer’s attitude to the solution developed by researchers?
A. Opposed. B. Worried.
C. Doubtful. D. Unknown.
B 29. C 30. A 31. D

根据第四段“Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B +, compared to a B - for those who did not. (贝洛克教授说,写了担忧的高焦虑学生平均成绩为B +,而没有写的学生平均成绩为B -。)”可知,那些思考与考试无关事情的学生(即没有写担忧的学生)比写了自己感受的学生考得差。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test. (贝洛克教授和另一位研究人员杰拉多·拉米雷斯提出了一种可能的解决方案。就在考试前,高度焦虑的考生花十分钟写下他们对考试的担忧。)” 以及下文可知,短文只是在陈述研究人员的行为、实验过程及教授对结果的表述,未掺杂作者的态度倾向。所以作者的态度是未知的。
D
Under a nearly full moon in the darkness of the night sky over Kansas, a group of student star watchers sat in a circle taking turns on the telescope. They seem very happy, very cheerful, and excited to experience new things.
It was a bonding experience that was out of this world, especially considering that only a day before they were as foreign to each other as the moon landscape itself.
This past summer more than 300 high school graduates signed up for the unique student exchange program. Unlike the well-known foreign exchange model that affords students a chance to study abroad, this program gives students the opportunity to soak in a brand-new culture without ever leaving the country.
It’s called the American Exchange Project, or AEP for short, co-founded by 29-year-old Franely McCullough, grandson of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough. “We fund kids to spend a week in the summer after senior year in an American town that is socio-economically and culturally different from the one that they’re growing up in,” McCullough said.
For the past three years McCullough’s been giving high school graduates that same experience, and so far at least, it’s having the impact he hoped it would. A week may not seem like a lot of time, but at the end of those seven days, you can see the kids have been bonded so much. One girl from South Dakota said, “I’ve never been a part of a community where I’m not the minority. So, this is an experience that I really appreciate.”
McCullough hopes to offer the program to a million students by decade’s end, and all free of charge, thanks to big name donors, including the likes of Steven Spielberg. “I think this all ought to be as typical to the American high school experience as the graduating party,” McCullough said. “I think every kid in every town should have an experience like this.”
32. What do the words “out of this world” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Meaningless. B. Confusing. C. Ancient. D. Wonderful.
33. What can we learn about the AEP project?
A. It’s a winter camp for senior students. B. It’s a free week-long trip in a new town.
C. It’s in honour of a late famous historian. D. It’s a foreign exchange program in America.
34. Why does the author mention South Dakota in Paragraph 5?
A. To show the impact of the project. B. To explain the origin of the project.
C. To predict the future of the project. D. To invite more kids to join the project.
35. What is the best title of the text?
A. Students Exploring the Universe by the Telescope.
B. A New American Town Being Open to the Students.
C. Students Building Bridges Across the American Divide.
D. The Big Names Donating Fund to the Students’ Growth.
D 33. B 34. A 35. C
根据第一段“Under a nearly full moon in the darkness of the night sky over Kansas, a group of student star watchers sat in a circle taking turns on the telescope. They seem very happy, very cheerful, and excited to experience new things.(在堪萨斯州漆黑的夜空中,一轮接近满月的月光下,一群学生围成一圈轮流坐在望远镜前。他们看起来很开心,很高兴,对体验新事物很兴奋)”和划线词后文“especially considering that only a day before they were as foreign to each other as the moon landscape itself(尤其是考虑到就在一天前,他们彼此还像月球风景一样陌生)”可推断,这是一种不同寻常的亲密体验。所以划线部分out of this world意思为“非常好的”,与D选项“wonderful(极好的)”为同义词。
根据第四段中““We fund kids to spend a week in the summer after senior year in an American town that is socio-economically and culturally different from the one that they’re growing up in,” McCullough said.(麦卡洛说:“我们会资助孩子们在高中毕业后的那个夏天去一个与他们日常生活环境在社会经济和文化方面都存在差异的美国小镇度过一周。”)”
根据第五段“A week may not seem like a lot of time, but at the end of those seven days, you can see the kids have been bonded so much. One girl from South Dakota said, “I’ve never been a part of a community where I’m not the minority. So, this is an experience that I really appreciate.”(一周的时间或许看起来不算很长,但在这七天结束之时,你会看到孩子们之间的关系已经变得如此紧密。来自南达科他州的一个女孩说道:“我从未生活在一个自己不是少数群体的社区。所以,这次经历对我来说意义非凡。”)”可知,此处提到南达科他州是为了展示这个项目的影响,即让孩子们有了不同的文化体验,更加紧密地联系在一起。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段“It’s called the American Exchange Project, or AEP for short, co-founded by 29-year-old Franely McCullough, grandson of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough. “We fund kids to spend a week in the summer after senior year in an American town that is socio-economically and culturally different from the one that they’re growing up in,” McCullough said.( 它被称为“美国交流项目”,简称 AEP,该项目由 29 岁的弗兰尼·麦卡洛创立,他是已故普利策奖得主历史学家大卫·麦卡洛的孙子。

Mr Smith had recently joined the school as an English teacher, and within his first two weeks, he had already won over his students with his lively and interesting classes. The students were enthusiastic about reading pages from the novel they were studying, working hard to write wonderful articles and fearlessly giving presentations in front of the class. Mr Smith’s approach had breathed new life into the classroom, changing what used to be dull lessons into exciting learning experiences.
Despite the overall success, Mr Smith couldn’t help but notice one student who seemed to be struggling — Jeremy. This quiet student always sat at the back of the classroom, unwilling to speak or cooperate. Although his grades weren’t terrible, there was some clear room for improvement. Mr Smith wondered whether it was because of his lack of confidence in class and his below-average school performance.
One day, Mr Smith approached Jeremy with great concern, asking how he was finding the class. Jeremy’s reply was brief and shy, avoiding eye contact with his teacher. After replying to his teacher, Jeremy slowly left the class, walking behind the other students alone. It was clear to Mr Smith that this was a student who needed a helping hand, a bit of inspiration and motivation.
Mr Smith decided to call Jeremy’s mother to see if she could give him some ideas on how to bring him out of his shell. “I’m sorry, Jeremy is so busy helping me at home that sometimes that he doesn’t spend as much time on his homework as maybe he should,” she said. Mr Smith heard this and started to understand. “However, whenever he is helping me around the house, singing never fails to put a smile on his face.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

After class, Jeremy approached Mr Smith’s desk with a big smile on his face.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With this newfound knowledge, Mr Smith walked into the next class with a plan. “Today we will have a singing competition!” he announced. Jeremy’s eyes lit up at the moment, for it was an opportunity for him to showcase his talent. As the competition began, Mr Smith called Jeremy to be the first performer, whose song was a true feast for the ears, so that everyone sat in admiration. The usually silent boy indeed gave a brilliant performance, which was eventually greeted with loud applause with Jeremy standing straight at the front smiling delightedly.
After class, Jeremy approached Mr Smith’s desk with a big smile on his face. “Thank you, sir. Today’s class was the best.” Mr Smith couldn’t help but feel emotional, knowing that his plan had worked. Jeremy’s newfound confidence had blossomed through the power of music and self-expression. From that day on, Jeremy became more engaged and active in class, his grades improving gradually. It was Mr Smith’s belief in the potential of every student and his willingness to go the extra mile that had made a lasting impact on Jeremy’s life. He knew that with continued support and encouragement, Jeremy could achieve great things.

A. Opposed. B. Worried.
C. Doubtful. D. Unknown.
