Should schools have a plant-based meal day? A plant-based meal has no animal products, like meat, eggs, or honey. Some say it’s good for us, but others don’t think so.
Many schools are giving more plant-based choices. On Fridays, New York City schools have a plant-based meal as the main choice. Schools in Austin, Texas, give at least one dish only made with vegetables every day. A study shows that about 5% of people in the US are vegetarians, and more people are choosing to eat less meat.
Experts say plant-based foods are healthier for both people and the world. If we eat 25% less meat, the air will be much fresher and we are less likely to get sick. It’s easier to adjust (适应) to eating more plant-based foods when you’re younger, and schools are a great place to start. Also, children may change their parents’ eating and shopping ways too. And it isn’t hard to change fried chicken into vegetable pies once a week.
However, a plant-based meal doesn’t mean it’s nutritious (有营养的) or tasty, and some studies show that a vegetarian meal isn’t great for growing kids. Schools could give more grains (谷物) , fruits, and vegetables, but they could also use meat from modern farms. These products are more friendly to the world. Everyone should get to choose whether or not they want to eat meat. Students should have their personal choices.
4.The underlined word “vegetarians” in Paragraph 2 means ________.
A.meals with no vegetables B.people having plant-based meals C.meals with only healthy food D.people eating meat and vegetables
5.According to paragraph 3, eating more plant-based foods in school may ________.
A.make a lot of people feel sick B.let the water become much cleaner C.change the eating ways of parents D.give students more personal choices
6.According to the passage, what is special about a plant-based meal?
A.It has no animal products, like meat, eggs, or honey.
B.It has both animal meat and fresh vegetables.
C.It is healthy for people of all ages.
D.It is nutritious and delicious.
7.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Students Should Eat Less Meat B.A Meat-based Meal Day in the US
C.Students Choose by Themselves D.A Plant-based Meal Day in the US
