In November 2025, she and seven of her children finished an amazing adventure. They paddled (用桨划船) the long Mississippi River from start to end. They began their trip in Minnesota and stopped at the Gulf of Mexico. The journey was 2,350 miles long. It took them 96 days to finish it. The children on the trip were between 6 and 14 years old. They gave their team a nice name — “32 Feet Up”. That means 16 pairs of feet of the family members. They kept happy and helped each other all the way. The big river was not the scariest part of the trip. During the journey, they also experienced dark nights and heavy rain. However, the most dangerous thing was speedboats on the lakes. One time, a fast boat cut right through their group. It made big waves and broke the family apart. Nikki said this was her worst and scariest moment. Nikki does not send her children to a school. She teaches them at home. On the river, the world became their classroom. The children learned about science and geography. They also learned about history from the towns they visited. “Children remember things better when they can touch them, see them, and live them,” says Nikki. After the trip, Nikki hopes more families can start their own adventures, “You do not need much to start. Just go out and take the first step.” 19. That’s a habit. A new study shows that most of our daily actions are caused by habit, not careful decisions. Researchers asked 105 people about their daily activities. They wanted to see whether people acted with careful thought or just did things automatically (自动地). The result showed that about 65% of daily actions happened without careful thinking. But actually, nearly half of these automatic actions were just what people really wanted to do. This means people do many daily actions because of habit, and we do not even notice it. So if we hope to do what we really want, why not build more good habits on purpose. Professor Benjamin Gardner says that small, repeated actions can turn into powerful habits to help you reach your goals. When a good habit becomes something you do without thinking, you don’t have to depend on your strong will alone to keep doing it. For example, if you want to do more sports, just do it right after school each day. Soon it will become a daily habit. That means you don’t have to work hard to keep doing it. In the same way, bad habits are hard to break. If we want to give them up, we need a good plan and a strong will. Small daily repeated actions matter a lot. Over time, they can make you a better person. So try to begin with small things, keep doing good actions and let the power of good habits work for you. 23. How does the writer start the passage? A. By using a saying. B. By listing numbers. C. By raising a question. D. By comparing facts. 24. What does the study tell us about daily actions according to Paragraph 2? A. People do not want to control their daily actions. B. Nearly half of people have no goals in their daily lives. C. 65% of daily actions were done without careful thought. D. It’s easy for people to notice many of their daily actions. 25. What can we infer from Professor Benjamin Gardner’s opinion? A. Doing sports can help people build good habits. B. Making plans makes giving up habits more difficult. C. Breaking bad habits is easier than building good habits. D. Repeating small daily actions can help us form good habits. 26. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To encourage us to build good habits. B. To explain how the study was done. C. To introduce different kinds of habits. D. To tell us why bad habits are hard to break. C 24. C 25. D 26. 【23题详解】 根据文章第一段第一句“Have you ever found yourself doing something without really thinking about it...?” 【24题详解】 根据第二段第三句“The result showed that about 65% of daily actions happened without careful thinking.” 【25题详解】 根据第三段第二句“Professor Benjamin Gardner says that small, repeated actions can turn into powerful habits...” 【26题详解】 通读全文可知,文章介绍了习惯的形成及研究,并在最后一段提出建议“So try to begin with small things, keep doing good actions...”,旨在鼓励读者培养良好的习惯。 D Hedgehogs (刺猬) are small, cute wild animals that live in many parts of Europe and Asia. These quiet little animals usually come out at night to search for food in parks and gardens. Sadly, their numbers are dropping fast. A new report shows that their population in the British countryside has reduced by 75% in just over 20 years. Cars are one of the biggest dangers, as nearly one-third of hedgehogs are killed while crossing busy roads. To help protect them, a new study has found a special “superpower” of these animals. Scientists studied 20 hedgehogs from animal care centers to see how their brains responded to high sounds. They found that hedgehogs have amazing hearing, and they are able to pick up sounds between 4 and 85 kHz. Humans can only hear sounds up to 20 kHz. Interestingly, dogs can hear up to 45 kHz and cats up to 65 kHz. This means hedgehogs can hear very high sounds that humans, dogs, and cats are all unable to hear. Dr. Sophie Lund Rasmussen from the University of Oxford led the study. She plans to make small devices (设备) that make special high sounds. These devices could be put on cars. The sound would scare hedgehogs away before they get too close, but it would not trouble humans or other pets at all. The study also finds something interesting. Hedgehogs may actually “talk” to each other with high sounds that are hidden from human ears. “Imagine they are communicating all the time in a voice we can never hear,” said Rasmussen. With this new information, scientists hope to turn their natural hearing ability into a powerful tool for protecting them better. 27. Why does the number of hedgehogs drop fast according to Paragraph 1? A. They are being kept as pets. B. They are hunted in the countryside. C. They don’t have enough food in parks. D. They are killed by cars on busy roads. 28. What does the underlined phrase “superpower” refer to in Paragraph 2? A. Hearing very high sounds B. Coming out at night. C. Living quietly in gardens D. Talking to other animals. 29. Which device will Dr. Rasmussen use to protect hedgehogs? A. B. C. D. 30. What might scientists study in the future? A. The influence of noise on daily pets. B. The different ways animals talk with humans. C. How to create more living space for wild hedgehogs. D. How to use hedgehogs’ hearing ability to protect them. D 28. A 29. C 30. 【27题详解】 第一段“Cars are one of the biggest dangers, as nearly one-third of hedgehogs are killed while crossing busy roads.”,说明刺猬数量快速下降的主要原因是它们在过马路时被车辆撞死。 【29题详解】 第三段“She plans to make small devices that make special high sounds. These devices could be put on cars.”,可知拉斯穆森博士计划使用可以发出特殊高频声音的小型设备来保护刺猬,图C符合要求。 【30题详解】 最后一段“scientists hope to turn their natural hearing ability into a powerful tool for protecting them better.”,说明科学家未来会研究如何利用刺猬的听力来更好地保护它们。 Teen Inventor Jia Mingxuan Wins Gold in Germany Jia Mingxuan, a 14-year-old Chinese middle school student, won a top gold prize at an international invention competition. C Have you ever found yourself doing something without really thinking about it, like brushing your teeth as soon as you get up? D Hedgehogs (刺猬) are small, cute wild animals that live in many parts of Europe and Asia. Teen Inventor Jia Mingxuan Wins Gold in Germany Jia Mingxuan, a 14-year-old Chinese middle school student, won a top gold prize at an international invention competition.
