Sharing is not always caring
①Social media (社交媒体) has a lot of good points, and one of them is that it’s now really easy to share our news with others. Posting on social media is a really quick way to get information out before we know it, the news may have been shared with hundreds, thousands or even millions of people. But is this always a good thing?
②It’s now really common for people to share posts on social media. Through social media, it’s very easy to pass on information to a much wider audience (观众,听众), whether this is through text, image, audio or video. One click and the message is out there for the whole world to see. When this happens, very often people are free to express their opinions on what they see.
③This can produce great result — especially if it’s something that can help people. For example, many charities have been able to support worthy and meaningful projects and increase donations through social media. Sometimes we want our news to be shared because it’s something we’re celebrating, like the birth of a new baby, or the fact that we’ve just passed an exam. It could be a picture of ourselves that we really like, and we want others to see it. Sometimes we need our news to be shared online.
④Online sharing isn’t always caring. In fact, lots of social media posts can be unkind and rude! These types of posts can often have a really bad effect on people. They could make them very unhappy or influence the way they feel about themselves.
⑤Sometimes, when people come across these types of posts, they share without thinking about the results. It can be easy to think that there’s nothing wrong with sharing a social media post that came from someone else, or that has already become “viral”. We can tell ourselves that “I didn’t write it so it’s none of my business.” or that “Everyone was doing it”. By being online, we must understand and accept the duties that come with this, or we shouldn’t be there just yet.
⑥As middle school students, we are growing up with social media, and it’s our job to use it wisely. Before you click the “share” button, always ask yourself three questions: Is this true? Is this kind? Does this help others? If the answer is “no”, don’t share it. Let’s use social media to spread warmth, not harm, and make the online world a better place for everyone.
1. Why does the writer talk about charities in Paragraph 3?
A. To show sharing can bring good results.
B. To explain how charities raise money online.

2. The underlined word “viral” in Paragraph 5 probably means ____ in Chinese?
3. According to the passage, which of the following is OK to share?

C. Photos of your happy birthday party. D. A made-up story about a famous star.
4. What does the writer think of the excuse “I didn’t write it so it’s none of my business.”?
A. It’s a common reason for sharing. B. It’s not a good enough excuse.
C. It’s true for most social media users. D. It’s usual for middle school students.
5. What is the structure of the passage?
A. ①/②③/④⑤/⑥ B. ①/②/③④⑤/⑥ C. ①/②③/④⑤⑥ D. ①/②③④/⑤⑥

(Nancy lives with Bill Sikes, a dangerous thief (小偷), and she is also part of the criminal (犯罪的) world he is in. Oliver is a young orphan (孤儿) who is in danger; as Sikes plans to harm him.)
Scene One
Nancy had known Sikes for a long time. She had learned to read his minds by the sound of his footsteps and the look in his eyes.
That night, the dark room smelled of smoke and damp (潮湿的) walls. Shadows (阴影) moved on the walls, making the room feel smaller and colder. As Sikes spoke of Oliver, his voice was calm, which scared her more than his anger.
“You’ll do as I say,” he told her.
Nancy said nothing, but his words lay heavily on her mind. She held the table hard, trying not to shake.
Scene Two
Later, when Sikes had gone out, Nancy sat alone. The house was silent except for the floor making noise. She thought of Oliver — small, helpless, and surrounded (围绕) by people who wanted to hurt him.
“I’m no better than the rest,” she said to herself. “But he is different.”
The cold wind pressed against the window, making the room feel even lonelier. At last, she stood up, pulled her coat closely around her, and went out into the dark streets, where street lights shone on the wet stone road.
Scene Three
Nancy met Rose Maylie and Mr. Brownlow in secret. Fog was around their feet. Nancy spoke quickly and every time she heard voices far away, she looked back.
“I am the cause of all this…I am not worth your notice or your kindness. I don’t ask you to pity me,” she said, “only to protect the boy.”
They listened in silence. When she finished, Rose reached for her hand, but Nancy drew it back. “It’s enough that you know,” Nancy said. “I must go.”
Scene Four
Nancy returned to Sikes. The room still smelled of smoke. A cold wind came through the small window, making the curtains move a little. She knew what her choice might cost her, but she did not regret (后悔) it.
Sikes sat on a wooden chair, his eyes fixed on her as if trying to read her mind.
“You’ve been out,” he said. Nancy stood near the door, her hands were in front.
“Yes.” Nancy answered.
Nothing more was said, but the danger had already begun.
—Adapted from Oliver Twist
1. What scared Nancy most according to Scene One?
A. Sikes’ shouting. B. Sikes’ calm voice. C. Shadows on the wall. D. The smell of smoke.
2. What can we infer about Nancy from her words in Scene Three?
A. She planned to leave London. B. She expected to punish Sikes.
C. She cared more about Oliver than herself. D. She wished Rose and Brownlow to save her.
3. How did Nancy’s feelings change from Scene Two to Scene Four?
A. Calm→nervous→angry B. Angry→uneasy→calm
C. Worried→angry→calm D. Worried→nervous→calm
4. Each following picture matches one scene. Which scene is missing?
A. Scene One. B. Scene Two. C. Scene Three. D. Scene Four.
5. The writer organizes the passage into four scenes mainly to ____ .
A. show the terrible living conditions in London at that time
B. introduce different characters in the novel Oliver Twist

C To encourage students to donate to charities.
D. To compare (比较) different ways of sharing online.
2. The underlined word “viral” in Paragraph 5 probably means ____ in Chinese?
3. According to the passage, which of the following is OK to share?
A. Personal information of your classmate. B. A viral post that you didn’t check.

Every year on the 13th day of the first lunar month, a small village named Majie in Baofeng County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province, becomes a busy cultural gathering place. It’s the Majie Book Fair (书会), which was included in the first group of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List (国家级非物质文化遗产名录) in 2006 and has a long past of over 700 years, known as one of China’s “Top 10 Folk Customs” that carries rich traditional culture.
As the sun rises gently, Majie’s fields and roads are crowded with hundreds of thousands of people from nearby towns and villages. Thousands of folk storytellers from across the country gather here with their musical tools, such as drums and stringed instruments (弦乐器). The loud drumbeats (鼓声) and gentle string music fill the air, and different kinds of folk arts mix together peacefully, turning the wide wheat fields into a large outdoor theater full of energy.
In fact, the fair is a special folk art event held in the wheat fields, an important carrier of Chinese folk art. Storytellers bring different wonderful shows, such as long stories, and buyers “get” the joy of performances for village temple fairs or family celebrations in the coming year. Local families are kind and warm-hearted, offering free food and accommodation (住宿) to the storytellers, making them feel at home in this strange village. Storytellers travel thousands of miles to come here for a good chance to make money and support their families. Majie is also a “holy land” (圣地) for them to communicate, share ideas and gain experience from each other.
Hundreds of thousands of local people come for pleasure after the Spring Festival, and small vendors (供应商) sell delicious food and interesting toys from local areas, making the fair more lively and attractive.

【答案】was made;third;records;has become;successfully;a;strongest;until;for;to realize
故用“被创造”的被动语态“be+过去分词”,“被”用“be”的过去式“was”,“创造”用“make”的过去分词“made”,故答案为was made。
根据空格前“Since the World Cup started in 1973(自1973年世界杯举办以来)”可知,此处用现在完成时。
空格后“Chinese table tennis team(中国乒乓球队)”表示对象,需用介词“for(对于)”,构成“a pride for…(对……来说是骄傲)”的搭配。故答案为for。
10. 句意:她的精神指引我们如何努力实现梦想。空格处表示“努力”的目的,即“为了实现梦想”,需用动词不定式“to+动词原形”作目的状语。故答案为to realize。

【答案】
Dear teachers and schoolmates,
I’m very glad to run for the “School Civilized Star”. I always mind my manners in daily school life. First, I never forget to greet my teachers and classmates whenever I meet them. Second, I seldom talk loudly or run in the hallways after class. Instead, I keep my voice down and follow the school rules all the time.
I’m also ready to give others a helping hand. Last month, one of my classmates was ill and absent from school for three days. I shared my notes and helped her with her studies patiently when she came back. Seeing the smile on her face made me feel pleased.
To me, good manners and helping others can build a warmer and better school. I believe that these small acts can make a big difference.
I hope I can get your support and be a role model for everyone. Thank you for listening.
