Although I’m not a music major, I brought my beloved violin to the United States during this study abroad semester. This violin could not be kept apart from my life.
When I was six years old, I was one of the typical kids who started to learn musical instruments. Parents would hear their young kids shouting, “Mom! I want to learn the piano! Dad! I want to learn the violin!” Well, the difference is, for me, that it was not my free will. Yes, my mom just forced me to play the violin. In the violin school, you could hear the kids crying in the practice room after being scolded (责骂) by their moms. I was one of them. At the time, I hated the violin. However, I started to love the violin when my mom stopped focusing on my relationship with the violin in high school, because her attention naturally changed to my school performance. Maybe she didn’t have enough energy to force me to practice anymore.
When I finally got into college, the first thing I did was to register for the campus orchestra. I didn’t want to stop playing the violin. The orchestra helped me get involved in such a harmonious, friendly group for the first time while I was playing an instrument. It was my first time meeting friends who have similar hobbies, passion and dreams. I can’t forget my first classical concert. I was feeling true love toward the orchestra and the violin. I was extremely excited and I couldn’t wait for the next concert. The time just passed as a blink. Two hours felt like 10 minutes.
For everyone, it’s never too late to learn to play an instrument. It is really one of the best ways to express one’s emotions and communicate it to other people, and I have grown my emotions while being a part of an orchestra.
24. What can we know about the author’s mother when he was six?
A. She loved playing the violin. B. She suffered from a serious illness.
C. She cared about the author’s grades. D. She forced the author to learn the violin.

A. He changed his major to music. B. He attended a famous violin concert.
C. He signed up for the campus orchestra. D. He met friends with similar hobbies.
26. What does the author think of his first classical concert?
A. Impressive. B. Beneficial. C. Ordinary. D. Inspiring.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. His mother's strict education.

C. His nice orchestra experience.

Zhang Xue is a key figure in China’s motorcycle industry. He founded ZXMOTO, a Chinese motorcycle brand that made history in 2026 by winning two straight races at the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) in Portugal. His journey is a true underdog story.
Born in 1987 in a poor mountain village in Hunan Province, Zhang dropped out of school at 14 and worked as a repair shop apprentice (学徒). He learned engines by taking them apart with his own hands. At 19, eager to prove himself, he chased a TV crew’s car for over 100 kilometers through pouring rain on a broken motorcycle. The crew laughed at him, but his courage earned him a spot on TV. That led to a job as a rider and mechanic.
Realizing he started racing too late to become a champion rider, Zhang changed his goal, “If I cannot ride the fastest bike, I will build one.” In 2013, he arrived in Chongqing with only 20,000 yuan (about 2,900 USD), bought parts, and built his first bike. In 2017 he co‑founded Kove Moto, which grew into a major brand. But in 2024, after parting ways with Kove, he started ZXMOTO — his own company, named after his name.
Zhang’s years of devotion to motorcycle engineering has finally borne fruit. In March 2026, French rider Valentin Debise rode the ZXMOTO 820RR‑RS to two straight wins at WSBK, beating Ducati and Yamaha by nearly four seconds — the first ever race wins for a Chinese manufacturer. Watching from the sidelines, Zhang was moved to tears.
Today, ZXMOTO is valued at over one billion yuan. Zhang once said, “The world had no impression of Chinese motorcycles. Now they will remember us.” His story — from a motorcycle apprentice to a pioneer of Chinese motorsports — proves that passion and persistence can move mountains.
28. Why is Zhang’s childhood experience mentioned in paragraph 2?
A. To explain the origin of his career. B. To highlight his poor life in childhood.
C. To show his early interest in engines. D. To stress his disadvantage in education.
29. What was Zhang’s original goal?
A. To set up a top motorbike brand. B. To build the fastest motorbike.
C. To work as a motorbike apprentice. D. To become a top motorbike rider.
30. What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Zhang’s devotion to his career. B. The reward for Zhang’s efforts.
C. The performance of the motorbike. D. Valentin’s performance in the race.
31. Which of the following is true of Zhang’s story?
A. When in Rome, do as Romans do. B. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
C. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. D. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Polluted air is bad for your lungs but that dirty air might also be why many kids need glasses. Kids have better eyesight when air pollution levels are lower, scientists found.
The researchers focused on myopia, also known as nearsightedness. It’s a really big problem in East Asia. In China, for instance, more than four in every five teens are nearsighted by the time they finish high school. One in 10 are severely myopic.
Many things have long been known to contribute to someone becoming nearsighted, like genetics, daily habits and diet. “But this new study establishes the link between air pollution and nearsightedness in children,” notes Zongbo Shi, a scientist from the University of Birmingham.
His team used data from 29,971 elementary, middle and high school students in Tianjin, China. This survey asked kids or their families about the kids’ age, sex, health history, family background and habits, including how much the kids slept, what they ate, their school environment and more. Shi’s team also gathered environmental data for Tianjin, including air pollution levels, green space and nighttime lighting.
Data show that elementary-school-age children are especially sensitive to air pollution. “It is possible that pollution causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the retina (视网膜), which is the layer of light-sensitive cells at the back of the eye,” says Paul Foster, an ophthalmologist at University College London in England. This may lead to a greater risk of children becoming myopic.
The study has limitations, too. For example, it relied on self-reported data, which is not always accurate. The researchers also defined pollution exposure using data collected near the kids’ schools. This approach isn’t perfect because kids don’t spend their entire day at school, much less weekends. However, it suggests one possible option for improving children’s eye health. For kids everywhere, cleaner air could mean better vision, too.
32. What do the figures in paragraph 2 highlight?
A. The cause of nearsightedness. B. The consequence of nearsightedness.
C. The harm of nearsightedness. D. The seriousness of nearsightedness.
33. What causes nearsightedness in children according to the new study?
A. Lack of a proper diet. B. Improper use of eyes.
C. Exposure to air pollution. D. Problems with genetics.
34. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. What causes nearsightedness in children. B. What leads to the problems in the retina.
C. How sensitive children are to air pollution. D. How air pollution causes nearsightedness.
35. How does the author feel about the study?
A. positive B. negative C. unconcerned D. doubtful
【答案】32. D 33. C 34. D 35. A

Jim sat on the sofa. Mother’s Day was coming up, and he didn’t have a present. “How can I buy a present without any money?” he thought.
Jim picked up the newspaper that was lying on the sofa. He noticed a large advertisement on the front page. The local department store was sponsoring (赞助) a contest. “Tell us why your mom is special and win a shopping spree (疯狂购物) for her,” said the ad.
“This is perfect!” thought Jim. He ran to his room with the newspaper. Taking a pencil and a piece of paper from his desk, he started to write.
“My mom is the best mother in the world. She always makes a delicious lunch for me to take to school, and she never forgets my dessert. She reads as many books to me before bed as I want. She always remembers to check under the bed for monsters. And she gives the best hug, but never in front of my friends, who would laugh at me for hugging my mom.”
Jim liked what he had written. He copied it neatly and got an envelope and a stamp from his dad. He ran to the mailbox with his entry (参赛作品), “Mom will love having a shopping spree,” he thought.
Jim checked the mailbox every day for his prize. Days passed by, and then weeks. Soon it was the day before Mother’s day. Jim still hadn’t heard anything about the contest.
“What am I going to do now?” he wondered. He didn’t win a shopping spree for mum, and he still didn’t have any money. He had to think of something. Jim closed his eyes and scratched his hair and thought so hard that his head began to hurt.
Suddenly a perfect idea occurred to him.

The next morning, Jim handed his letter to his mom.

【答案】
Suddenly a perfect idea occurred to him. “Why not write a letter to mum and show how much I love her?” He searched in his drawers and fortunately found a piece of beautiful paper. Sitting down straight on his chair, he began to write the letter in his best handwriting as a Mother’s Day present. “Dear Mom, I’m writing this to tell you that you are the best mother in the world...” With a sincere heart, Jim finished the letter and sealed it in an envelope, his lips curving into a smile.
The next morning, Jim handed his letter to his mom. Finishing reading the letter, his mom gathered him into her arms, her eyes wet due to happiness. “Thank you, my dear!” She cried out with great satisfaction, hugging Jim more tightly. Leaning against his mom’s shoulder, Jim slowly explained why he chose to write a letter as a gift. After hearing the reason, his mom gently ran her fingers through his hair, saying, “To me, your letter is better than a thousand shopping sprees.” Indeed, love should be made known to loved ones.

A. positive B. negative C. unconcerned D. doubtful

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
