Have you heard of the Appalachian Trail (阿巴拉契亚小径)? The trail goes up and down through the Appalachian Mountains. Hiking (徒步) the trail is equal to climbing Mount Qomolangma (珠穆朗玛峰) sixteen times. Just one in four people can finish the whole journey.
But that didn’t stop Harvey Sutton and his family. Harvey’s parents began to train him when he was two years old. They got him well prepared for the AT (Appalachian Trail) with plenty of short walks and runs.
During the difficult days on the AT, Harvey liked to imagine himself as different roles. He said he loved the little game. This helped him walk more quickly. Besides, it made the long journey far more enjoyable. Harvey also made friends with other hikers along the trail and was given the name “Little Man”.
Harvey was only 4 years old when his family began hiking the AT in January 2021. It took them 209 days to finish the trail. Now aged 5, Harvey has started to go to school. But he says bravely, “I hope to hike the AT again someday in the future!”
Finishing the journey taught Harvey and his parents to work as a team and face challenges together. Harvey’s mum said, “This special experience has brought us much closer. More importantly, it has given us great courage to deal with all difficulties in life.”

“It’s hopeless,” said Scott.
He sat on the step of his cabin and looked at White Fang pulling at his chain, snarling fiercely.
“It’s a wolf, and we can’t tame (驯服) it,” said Scott.
“Someone has tamed him,” replied Matt. “Look at those marks on his chest.”
“You’re right! He was a sled dog (雪橇犬) before Beauty Smith had him.”
“Give him a chance,” suggested Matt. “Set him free.”
Matt untied the chain around White Fang’s neck. The dog couldn’t believe he was free.
“Poor thing,” said Scott. “He needs human kindness.”
Scott went into the cabin and returned with some meat. He threw it to White Fang. Another sled dog ran to the meat, so White Fang attacked him, knocked him down and bit his throat. Matt ran over and started to kick White Fang, but again the dog attacked, and this time it was Matt’s leg that was bleeding.
“I told you it was hopeless,” said Scott, taking out his gun angrily.
Matt stopped him. “That dog’s had a terrible time. You can’t expect him to be normal again soon. Give him some time.”
White Fang was waiting for his punishment. But Scott sat down several meters away and talked to White Fang in a calm, gentle way. And somewhere, it touched the dog. He began to trust the man. Scott got up and went back into the cabin. He came out with a small piece of meat. He offered it to White Fang, but the dog was suspicious (怀疑的). In the end he threw the meat at White Fang’s feet.
Scott repeated this several times. Then Scott went closer, and slowly put his hand on the dog’s head, talking all the time. White Fang had two feelings at the same time — his old fear of men’s hands, and the warmth from the gentle care. It was the beginning of a new life for White Fang, and the end of a life full of hatred (仇恨).

A. c-a-b-d B. c-a-d-b C. b-c-d-a D. b-c-a-d
35. What can we infer about White Fang from the last sentence of the passage?
A. He held hope for his future life.
B. He refused to get close to humans.
C. He forgot all his past experiences.
D. He decided to leave that place soon.
36. Which is the correct change of Scott’s feelings towards White Fang?

D
Spending time in space might sound exciting, but it causes serious harm to the human body. Weightlessness (失重) affects our bodies in many ways. Therefore, before astronauts head to the moon or Mars, scientists must find ways to reduce the bad physical effects of long-term space travel.
To do the research, ten healthy male volunteers took part in an unusual test. They agreed to spend ten days lying flat in a lab in France. To join the test, they had to be aged 20 to 40, between 1.65 m and 1.8 m tall, and have no food-related health problems or allergies (过敏反应).
The test, carried out by the European Space Agency (ESA), began on March 13, 2025. The volunteers lay on special water beds covered with waterproof material for ten days. Their bodies were in water up to their chests, with their arms and heads above the water surface. These special beds were designed to simulate the weightlessness in space.
During the test, the volunteers ate their meals lying flat on their backs. Even going to the bathroom was not easy. They had to stay lying down and move around on a small trolley (手推车)! This method offers a cheaper and simpler way to study how the body reacts (反应) in a gravity-free environment, such as blood rushing to the head and bone loss.
After the ten-day test, the volunteers stayed at the lab for another five days for medical checks and recovery. They also returned later for a final health check. ESA scientists believe the research will be very important to preparing astronauts for deep-space tasks. Moreover, the research results could also benefit (有益于) bedridden patients, the elderly, and those who have trouble moving on earth.
37. Why did the ESA carry out the test?
A. To invent new machines for medical treatment.
B. To train people to live well with weightlessness.
C. To reduce physical harm from long space travel.
D. To choose suitable people for future space tasks.
38. What does the underlined word “simulate” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Give up. B. Look for. C. Depend on. D. Act like.
39. Paragraph 4 mainly talks about the volunteers’ _________.
A. special training for future space life B. daily life during the test
C. physical problems caused by gravity D. basic standards for the test
40. What can we infer about the research in the last paragraph?
A. It brings long-term benefits in many fields.
B. It is designed to cure the elderly of illnesses.
C. It provides health checks for bedridden patients.
D. It can completely avoid risks in space exploration.

33. What can we learn from the marks on White Fang’s chest?
A. He got hurt when he ran away.
B. He was once a sled dog.
C. Beauty Smith treated him well.
D. Other wolves attacked him.
34. Which is the correct order of White Fang’s actions?
a. He waited for his punishment.
b. He was set free from the chain.
c. He attacked Matt and hurt his leg.
d. He didn’t accept the meat offered by Scott.
A. c-a-b-d B. c-a-d-b C. b-c-d-a D. b-c-a-d
A. Hopeless→Angry→Patient. B. Afraid→Moved→Proud.
C. Upset→Surprised→Cheerful. D. Worried→Calm→Satisfied.
【答案】33. B 34. D 35. A 36. A
文章第四、五段“‘Someone has tamed him,’ replied Matt. ‘Look at those marks on his chest.’ ‘You’re right! He was a sled dog before Beauty Smith had him.’”表明,白牙胸口的痕迹表明它曾经是一只雪橇犬。
【34题详解】
事件发展顺序如下:首先,Matt解开了白牙脖子上的链子(对应b. He was set free from the chain.);随后,白牙攻击了Matt并咬伤了他的腿(对应c. He attacked Matt and hurt his leg.);接着,白牙等待着惩罚(对应a. He waited for his punishment.);最后,它没有接受Scott递来的肉(对应d. He didn’t accept the meat offered by Scott.)。因此正确顺序为b-c-a-d。
【35题详解】
文章最后一段“It was the beginning of a new life for White Fang, and the end of a life full of hatred (仇恨).”表明,这对白牙来说是新生活的开始,充满仇恨的生活结束了,由此可推断它对未来的生活抱有希望。
【36题详解】
Scott的情绪变化过程:文章开头“‘It’s hopeless,’ said Scott.”体现了他最初的绝望(Hopeless);白牙攻击Matt后,Scott说“‘I told you it was hopeless,’ said Scott, taking out his gun angrily.”体现了他的愤怒(Angry);之后Scott听从Matt的建议,“Scott sat down several meters away and talked to White Fang in a calm, gentle way... Scott repeated this several times.”体现了他变得有耐心(Patient)。因此情绪变化为Hopeless→Angry→Patient。
【答案】37. C 38. D 39. B 40. A

Lu Yu was a famous tea lover in the Tang Dynasty over 1,300 years ago. Because of his great work in tea culture, people later called him the Sage of Tea.
Lu Yu had an unusual childhood. He lost his parents at an early age and was taken in by a monk. Living in Longgai Temple (寺), he first learned about tea. Making tea was part of his daily work, and he gradually loved its pleasant smell and the magic of tea leaves.
Though staying in the temple, Lu Yu hoped to see the outside world. At twelve, he left the temple to live independently and even performed in a theater to make a living.
Life was difficult, but he kept reading and studying everything about tea. When he grew up, he traveled to over thirty tea-growing areas.
