B Christmas time with kids is filled with warm traditions: Listening to Christmas music while decorating the tree, going to look at Christmas lights with hot chocolate in hand, and taking the kids to visit Santa Claus. Well, delete that last one. At least for my family. Parents think about how fun it will be at first to take their kids to see Santa, or tell them gifts are on their way from Santa, but this comes with a series of annoying questions about Mr. Claus like how he makes it to all the houses in one night, as well as the broken trust after revealing the truth. I didn’t want that. You may think that our Christmases were rigid, stuffy, and without any warmth or magic. I don’t think so. Part of that is due to what I taught my kids about Christmas. Instead of telling them Santa is real, I told them it most likely has its origins in St. Nicholas, a man who was kind and generous to children in need. Netflix’s 2021 movie “A Boy Called Christmas” is a useful tool for helping kids connect Christmas myths and traditions with reality while keeping the spirit of generosity alive. The month of December is filled with movie and game nights, plays and concerts. These family traditions have added flavor to my kids’ entire childhood. Hopefully, they know now that it’s the time with family, doing special things together, that creates the magic and that my love for them goes well beyond just one day — and that magic, wonder and awe can happen any time with family, especially if we remain generous and grateful. My kids are older now, and they’re glad they didn’t believe the myth of Santa. It was one fewer bad memory for them, one fewer blow to their innocent childhood. 24. What is special for the author’s family’s Christmas time? A. Appreciating Christmas lights. B. skipping visiting Santa Claus. C. Unlocking secrets of Santa Claus. D. Helping Santa Claus deliver gifts. 25. What does the author want to convey to her kids in paragraph3? A. Generosity comes from reality. B. Warmth counts to Christmas. C. St. Nicholas is an unsung hero. D. Santa myth will break kids’ trust. 26. What does the author intend to show by mentioning “the magic of Christmas”? A. To prove that the Santa myth is not necessary for Christmas. B. To explain why family entertainments are popular in December. C. To show that Christmas is the most magical festival for families. D. To stress that shared family time is the core of Christmas’ charm. 27. Which of the following can best describe the author? A. Rigid but caring. B. Generous and devoted. C. Distant but unconventional. D. Thoughtful and insightful. C After eight years of planning, a cost of more than 500 m kronor (£39 m) and an early morning blessing, Kiruna Kyrka began a slow 5 km journey on Tuesday to make way for the expansion of Europe’s biggest underground mine. The 672-tonne wooden Swedish Lutheran church, dating from 1912, is to be slowly rolled to its new home over two days, at a pace of half-a-kilometre an hour. The move is part of a huge multi-decade operation to relocate the whole Arctic town as the state-owned LKAB iron mine weakens the ground, threatening to swallow the town. Designed by Gustaf Wickman, the church is one of Sweden’s most-loved older buildings. More than 10,000 people, including the Swedish king, Carl XVI Gustaf, are expected to line the streets to see the move of the red wooden building. The expansion has attracted criticism, including from the Sámi community, who fear that the division of the land would make reindeer herding hard, threatening the local biodiversity. Karin K Niia, a reindeer owner, warned the move was “a big show” to distract from the destruction mining causes to the town and its native culture. She accused the company of “land-grabbing” the grassland territory needed to support Sámi culture. Fredriksson, who hosted a podcast on local Kiruna news, was happy, at least, that the church had been saved, and hadn’t ended up “as woodchips like the rest of Kiruna.” LKAB said the move was necessary for the church to continue to exist and stressed it sought “constructive solutions” when mining affected reindeer herding; the company’s chief executive, Jan Moström, said the relocation work had cost more than half a billion kronor and that if the mine is to remain, the city center must move. The church is expected to reopen at its new location at the end of next year, but the city’s relocation is not scheduled to finish until 2035. 28. What do we know about the Kiruna Kyrka church? A. Its relocation lasts over eight years. B. It travels across the entire Arctic town. C. It is to be moved as a whole to a new place. D. It was constructed in 1912 by Gustaf Wickman. 29. What does the underlined phrase “a big show” suggest about the move? A. It’s a technical demonstration. B. It’s a misleading public display. C. It’s a huge advance towards biodiversity. D. It’s an enormous threat to Sámi community. 30. What can be inferred about LKAB’s statement? A. It viewed the move as unavoidable. B. It denied affecting reindeer herding. C. It focused more on cultural heritage. D. It regretted the project’s high expense. 31. Which of the following is the best title of the passage? A. Mine expansion impacts Sámi culture B. LKAB forces an Arctic Town to relocate C. Locals save Sweden’s most-loved church D. A historic church moves for mine expansion D Scientists at Finland’s Aalto University have found that using artificial intelligence (AI) almost removes and reverses (逆转)the Dunning-Kruger effect, a phenomenon that people who aren’t very good at a given task are overconfident, while people with high ability tend to underestimate their skills. Their research showed that when using common chatbots to solve problems, everyone (regardless of their skill level) tended to put too much faith in the quality of the answers, with the most experienced AI users doing so the most. In the study, scientists gave 500 subjects logical reasoning tasks, with half allowed to use ChatGPT. Both groups were later quizzed on both their AI literacy and how well they thought they performed, and promised extra rewards if they assessed their own performance accurately. The reasons behind the findings are varied. Because AI users were usually satisfied with their answer after only one question or prompt (提示), accepting the answer without further checking or confirmation, they can be said to have engaged in what Robin Welsch, an Aalto University computer scientist, calls “cognitive (认知) offloading” — exploring the question with reduced reflection, and approaching it in a more “shallow” way. Such less engagement in our own reasoning means we bypass the usual feedback process of critical thinking, which reduces our ability to assess our performance accurately. Even more revealing was the fact that we all overestimate our abilities when using AI, regardless of our intelligence, with the gap between high-and low-skill users reducing. The study owed this to the fact that large language models (LLMs) help everyone perform better to some degree. Meanwhile, the Aalto team warned of several potential impacts as AI becomes more widespread. Firstly, metacognitive accuracy overall might suffer. Without reflecting on results, error checking or deeper reasoning, we risk weakening our ability to source information reliably, the scientists said in the study. What’s more, the flattening of the Dunning-Kruger Effect will mean we’ll all continue to overestimate our abilities while using AI, with the more AI-literate among us doing so even more — leading to an increased climate of miscalculated decision-making and a drop in their skills. 32. What did Aalto University researchers discover about AI chatbot use? A. Low-ability users became less confident. B. It strengthened the Dunning-Kruger Effect. C. Users generally over-trusted the chatbot’s answers. D. Only beginners often thought highly of their abilities. 33. Which aspect of the research is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The purpose. B. The process. C. The subjects. D. The findings. 34. Why do the users often overestimate their abilities? A. LLMs’ aid improves users’ task performance. B. Users often skip the process of critical thinking. C. AI tools contribute to users’ metacognitive accuracy. D. The gap between high-and low-skill AI users is bridged. 35. What will be probably talked about in the following paragraph? A. Regulations for narrowing AI users’ skill gap. B. Guidelines for sourcing information reliably. C. Methods for preventing users’ cognitive decline. D. Tips for improving the subjects’ performance. Young Chinese travelers are discovering a clever way to save money on overseas trips. ___36___ For example, one traveler took a high-speed train from Beijing to Datong and then caught a direct flight to Bangkok. The total cost was much lower than a direct flight from Beijing. ___37___ This new travel style is possible thanks to newly opened international routes from smaller city airports. This makes the overall journey surprisingly affordable. The airports in these smaller cities offer another advantage: efficiency. With shorter walking distances and fewer crowds, they provide a relaxed start to the trip compared to the often busy major hubs. But for these young people, it’s not just about saving money. ___38___ They prefer to spend their budget on better food and experiences at their destination. An expert points out this reflects an upgrade in cultural consumption, not simply cheaper travel. How can these tickets be so cheap? ___39___ To encourage local tourism and economic growth, local governments often provide support for these new flight routes. This reduces airline costs, allowing them to offer low ticket prices. This trend is growing across China. More small and medium-sized cities are launching budget international flights. ___40___ A. The main reason involves government support and market operations. B. Therefore, the quality of their travel experience has significantly improved. C. They combine a short train ride to a nearby city with a flight from its airport. D. Instead, it represents a smarter choice aimed at gaining greater value. E. These flights are often 30-50% cheaper than those from big cities. F. Consequently, this has led to a decrease in international travel overall. G. As a result, young travelers now have more attractive and cheaper flight options. When my ten-year-old son Luke joined a local football team, I never expected to witness such a profound life lesson on the field. His room was like a junkyard, with clothes tossed everywhere, empty chip bags on the floor, and half-finished sodas scattered across his desk. His mom, Susan, had stopped nagging (唠叨) him to clean up, hoping he himself would eventually get the hint. But instead, the mess just got worse. Greenwood High School was famous for its creative projects, so when the headmaster, Mr. Thompson declared a new “Labor Education” project, no one was too surprised. The idea was simple: teach students about hard work through real tasks. Jason wasn’t excited — he would rather play video games all day — but the project was a must; he had no choice. Finally, the day of the project came. It was gray and overcast, matching Jason’s mood as he dragged himself into the school’s lecture hall with his classmates, yawning and complaining. Mr. Thompson stood on stage with a speaker. “Today, we’re going to learn the importance of labor!” he exclaimed. Jason rolled his eyes when he was assigned to the gardening group with his best friend, Mike. Their job was to clear out the school’s overgrown front lawn and plant new flowers. They shared a look that said it all — this was going to be a long day. As they started weeding, Jason quickly discovered how hard physical labor could be. The weeds were stubborn, and the leaves seemed to multiply every time he raked (耙) them. His back ached, his arms felt like jelly, and his hands blistered (起泡). While stretching, eager to sneak in a break, he spotted Mr. Thompson standing afar with a big smile from across the yard, giving him a big thumbs-up. After lunch, the group moved to build simple things like birdhouses for the garden in the school’s maintenance house. Jason had two left hands at first — his hammering was a mess — but he slowly got better. By the end of the session, he managed to make a crooked but decent- looking birdhouse. Carrying his newly-made birdhouse around, Jason proudly showed it off to his classmates. The last task of the day was to plant new flowers. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As the day ended, Jason walked back to his room. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 英语试卷 考试时间:120分钟,满分150分 注意事项: 1. Where does the man want to go? To help the homeless. B. To promote water conservation. C. To collect money for Lumsden students. C 18. A 19. C 20. W: Good morning, everyone! Today, I’d like to share some practical ways to save water in our daily lives. In fact, we have all been told not to leave the water running while brushing our teeth or washing our faces. Another good habit is taking shorter showers — every minute counts. When it comes to doing the dishes, using the dishwasher is much more efficient than washing the dishes by hand, but only if you fill it up. If you use the dishwasher for only a few plates or glasses, you will end up wasting more water. Does your car need a wash? Get down to Lumsden College this weekend, where they are having a charity car wash. The event will take place at the college parking lot, where the students will be washing cars for a good cause — that’s on Saturday, the 4th, from eight in the morning till eight in the evening. And the prices are pretty good, too — just ten dollars for the outside of your car and eight dollars for the inside. If you want the full service, outside and inside, it will cost you only fifteen dollars. That’s not too bad. But the main thing is that all the money raised will go to the homeless people in the area. So if your car is dirty, you know where to take it this weekend. A Breathe, Think, Do with Sesame It is a free research-based app designed to help young children develop skills such as calming down and solving problems. B 25. A 26. D 27. 根据第一段中“Christmas time with kids is filled with warm traditions: Listening to Christmas music while decorating the tree, going to look at Christmas lights with hot chocolate in hand, and taking the kids to visit Santa Claus. Well, delete that last one. At least for my family. (与孩子们一起度过的圣诞节充满了温馨的传统:装饰圣诞树时听圣诞音乐,手捧热巧克力去看圣诞灯饰,带孩子们去拜访圣诞老人。嗯,删掉最后一项。至少对我的家人来说是这样)”可知,作者家庭的特别之处在于跳过了拜访圣诞老人这一项。故选B项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“You may think that our Christmases were rigid, stuffy, and without any warmth or magic. I don’t think so. Part of that is due to what I taught my kids about Christmas. Instead of telling them Santa is real, I told them it most likely has its origins in St. Nicholas, a man who was kind and generous to children in need. Netflix’s 2021 movie “A Boy Called Christmas” is a useful tool for helping kids connect Christmas myths and traditions with reality while keeping the spirit of generosity alive.(你或许以为我们的圣诞节刻板拘谨,缺乏温暖与魔力。 故选A项。 根据第四段中“Hopefully, they know now that it’s the time with family, doing special things together, that creates the magic and that my love for them goes well beyond just one day — and that magic, wonder and awe can happen any time with family, especially if we remain generous and grateful. (希望他们现在明白,是家人共度的时光,一起做特别的事情,创造了魔力,而我对他们的爱远不止一天——魔力、奇迹和敬畏可以随时与家人一起发生,尤其是当我们保持慷慨和感恩之心时)”可知,作者提到“圣诞节的魔力”是为了强调家人共度的时光才是圣诞节魅力的核心。故选D项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Christmas time with kids is filled with warm traditions: Listening to Christmas music while decorating the tree, going to look at Christmas lights with hot chocolate in hand, and taking the kids to visit Santa Claus. Well, delete that last one. At least for my family. (与孩子们一起度过的圣诞节充满了温馨的传统:装饰圣诞树时听圣诞音乐,手捧热巧克力去看圣诞灯饰,带孩子们去拜访圣诞老人。嗯,删掉最后一项。至少对我的家人来说是这样)”以及第三段中“Instead of telling them Santa is real, I told them it most likely has its origins in St. Nicholas, a man who was kind and generous to children in need. A historic church moves for mine expansion 【答案】28. C 29. B 30. A 31. 根据第一段“The 672-tonne wooden Swedish Lutheran church, dating from 1912, is to be slowly rolled to its new home over two days, at a pace of half-a-kilometre an hour.(这座重达672吨的瑞典路德宗教堂建于1912年,将分两天时间被缓缓移动至新址,移动速度为每小时半公里)”可知,基律纳圣堂教堂将整体被迁移至一个新的地点。 根据第三段“The expansion has attracted criticism, including from the Sámi community, who fear that the division of the land would make reindeer herding hard, threatening the local biodiversity.(此次扩张引发了诸多批评,其中包括来自萨米人的抗议。 根据倒数第二段“LKAB said the move was necessary for the church to continue to exist and stressed it sought “constructive solutions” when mining affected reindeer herding; the company’s chief executive, Jan Moström, said the relocation work had cost more than half a billion kronor and that if the mine is to remain, the city center must move.(LKAB表示,此举对于该教堂的继续存在至关重要,并强调在采矿活动影响到驯鹿放牧的情况下,他们寻求的是“建设性的解决方案”;该公司首席执行官扬·莫斯特罗姆表示,搬迁工作花费了超过5亿克朗,如果要保留该矿场,市中心就必须迁移)”可知,LKAB认为这一举措是不可避免的。故选A。 根据第一段“Kiruna Kyrka began a slow 5 km journey on Tuesday to make way for the expansion of Europe’s biggest underground mine.(周二,Kiruna Kyrka开始了一段长达5公里的缓慢行进,为欧洲最大的地下矿井扩建工程让路)”以及文章主要介绍了瑞典一座教堂整体搬迁的情况。 D。 D Scientists at Finland’s Aalto University have found that using artificial intelligence (AI) almost removes and reverses (逆转)the Dunning-Kruger effect, a phenomenon that people who aren’t very good at a given task are overconfident, while people with high ability tend to underestimate their skills. C 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第一段“Their research showed that when using common chatbots to solve problems, everyone (regardless of their skill level) tended to put too much faith in the quality of the answers, with the most experienced AI users doing so the most.(他们的研究表明,当使用普通聊天机器人解决问题时,每个人(无论技能水平如何)都倾向于过度相信答案的质量,经验最丰富的人工智能用户表现得最为明显)”可知,阿尔托大学的研究人员发现使用人工智能聊天机器人时,用户普遍过度信任聊天机器人的答案。 根据第二段“In the study, scientists gave 500 subjects logical reasoning tasks, with half allowed to use ChatGPT. Both groups were later quizzed on both their AI literacy and how well they thought they performed, and promised extra rewards if they assessed their own performance accurately.(在这项研究中,科学家给500名受试者布置了逻辑推理任务,其中一半人被允许使用ChatGPT。随后,两组受试者都接受了关于他们的人工智能素养以及他们认为自己表现如何的测试,并承诺如果他们能准确评估自己的表现,将给予额外奖励)”可知,该段主要介绍了研究的过程,包括给受试者布置任务、分组、后续测试等。故选B项。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“The study owed this to the fact that large language models (LLMs) help everyone perform better to some degree.(该研究将此归因于大型语言模型(LLMs)在某种程度上帮助每个人都表现得更好)”可知,用户经常高估自己的能力是因为大型语言模型的帮助提高了用户在任务中的表现。故选A项。 根据最后一段“Firstly, metacognitive accuracy overall might suffer. Without reflecting on results, error checking or deeper reasoning, we risk weakening our ability to source information reliably, the scientists said in the study. What’s more, the flattening of the Dunning-Kruger Effect will mean we’ll all continue to overestimate our abilities while using AI, with the more AI-literate among us doing so even more — leading to an increased climate of miscalculated decision-making and a drop in their skills.(首先,整体的元认知准确性可能会受到影响。 Young Chinese travelers are discovering a clever way to save money on overseas trips. C 37. E 38. D 39. A 40. 【36题详解】 根据上文“Young Chinese travelers are discovering a clever way to save money on overseas trips.(年轻的中国游客正在寻找一种在海外旅行中节省费用的巧妙方法)”以及后文“For example, one traveler took a high-speed train from Beijing to Datong and then caught a direct flight to Bangkok. The total cost was much lower than a direct flight from Beijing.(例如,有一位旅客先乘坐高速列车从北京前往大同,然后乘坐直飞航班前往曼谷。整个行程的费用比从北京直接乘坐航班要低得多)”可知,空前的首句提出了“聪明的省钱方法”这一总体概念,空后则用具体例子(北京-大同-曼谷)进行说明。C项“他们先将短途高铁和从小城市机场起飞的航班结合起来”恰是对“这种方法”具体操作方式的解释说明,作为桥梁连接了抽象的“方法”概念和其后具体的例子,使逻辑连贯。故选C。 【37题详解】 根据后文“This new travel style is possible thanks to newly opened international routes from smaller city airports. This makes the overall journey surprisingly affordable. The airports in these smaller cities offer another advantage: efficiency. With shorter walking distances and fewer crowds, they provide a relaxed start to the trip compared to the often busy major hubs.(这种新的旅行方式之所以能够实现,得益于一些较小城市机场新开通的国际航线。 【38题详解】 根据上文“But for these young people, it’s not just about saving money.(但对于这些年轻人来说,这不仅仅是为了省钱)”以及后文“They prefer to spend their budget on better food and experiences at their destination. An expert points out this reflects an upgrade in cultural consumption, not simply cheaper travel.(他们更愿意将预算用于购买更优质的食物以及在目的地享受更多的体验活动。一位专家指出,这反映的是文化消费水平的提升,而非仅仅是旅行成本的降低)”可知,第三段旨在探讨现象背后的深层动机。空前句提出“这不只是图便宜”,将语意转向更深层次。D项“相反,它代表着一种旨在获取更高价值的更聪明选择”完美承接这一转折,明确指出了其本质是“价值追求”,进而自然引出空后关于“将预算用于更好体验”和“消费升级”的具体阐述,逻辑链条紧密。故选D。 【39题详解】 根据上文“How can these tickets be so cheap?(这些票怎么这么便宜呢?)”以及后文“To encourage local tourism and economic growth, local governments often provide support for these new flight routes. This reduces airline costs, allowing them to offer low ticket prices.(为了促进当地旅游业的发展和经济增长,地方政府通常会为这些新的航线提供支持。这降低了航空公司的运营成本,从而使他们能够提供较低的票价)”可知,第四段以设问句开头,询问低价原因。A项“主要原因与政府支持和市场运作有关”直接、概括性地回答了该问题,是总起句。它随即引出了空后对“政府支持”如何具体运作的详细解释(如提供补贴、降低风险),构成了“总—分”的逻辑关系。故选A。 【40题详解】 根据上文“This trend is growing across China. More small and medium-sized cities are launching budget international flights.(这种趋势正在中国各地不断蔓延。 When my ten-year-old son Luke joined a local football team, I never expected to witness such a profound life lesson on the field. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 The last task of the day was to plant new flowers. Jason, with his legs numb with fierce ache and blistered fingers out of shape, had little desire to manage the sweating task. He was about to give up when the scene where the headmaster announced the “Labor Education” project flashed into his mind. He took up the shovel and dug several holes to plant the new flowers despite the pain on his back and sweat rolling down his cheek. With their joint efforts, they had all the new flowers planted. The refreshing yard witnessed their perseverance and endurance they had paid. As the day ended, Jason walked back to his room. At the sight of the messy junkyard, he couldn’t wait to take action, recalling the newfound lesson gained under the blazing sunlight. The tossed clothes were folded and placed back to their positions. The room turned on a new and vigorous look. Noticing Mom’s obvious shock and amazement on her face, Jason made a sly wink. It was the project that taught him the significance of labor, which was going to be engraved in his mind forever. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拿起:take up/pick up ②种植:plant/grow ③采取行动:take action/take steps 情绪类 ①渴望:desire/thirst ②震惊:shock/astonishment 【点睛】[高分句型1] He was about to give up when the scene where the headmaster announced the “Labor Education” project flashed into his mind.
