On an early October morning, a small group of women gathered beneath a tall tree in Delhi’s Sanjay Van. One of them rolled a seed between her fingers, introducing the tree to the others. For a moment, they simply stood there, taking in the stillness that arrived naturally when they stepped away from traffic and into an older, greener part of the city.
These women were part of Women and Wilderness, a community that brings women together to explore Delhi’s forests and native ecosystems. Their shared intention is simple: to create a space free from rush, and to let curiosity lead the way. The walks are led by Rama Dhavala and Nidhi Batra, both of whom are self-taught nature enthusiasts.
Their routes cover parts of the ancient Aravalli system. These trails often surprise first-timers who imagine Delhi to be a place of markets, traffic and tall buildings. “Delhi is one of India’s greenest cities. You just need a nudge(轻推)to notice,” Nidhi Batra said during one of the walks. As the group moves along the trail, that nudge comes through small moments of learning. Participants observe native species, understand the impact of invasive plants, and see how each part of the landscape carries its own history.
In a city where pollution shapes daily life, the walks offer more than information—they remind people of what still survives. “This gives us time to pause and feel grateful for what remains,” one participant, Supreet Khosla, said. “For me, these two hours feel like my lungs are breathing more. It is also a path to happiness, which is lined with trees. If you are walking among trees, you are leading yourself towards happiness.”
So, weekend after weekend, women meet at familiar points, lace up their shoes, and step into Delhi’s forests. Each walk offers a chance to observe, learn, and reconnect with the city gently. One trail at a time, these mornings help women feel more at ease in their surroundings—and within themselves.
24. What is the goal of Women and Wilderness?
A. To share expert nature knowledge. B. To explore green and peaceful nature.
C. To protect Aravalli forests. D. To reduce Delhi’s pollution.
25. What surprise first-time participants according to the text?
A. Delhi’s crowded markets and traffic. B. Native animals along the way.
C. Various stories along the Aravalli trails. D. Unexpected scenery in Delhi.
26. What is implied in Supreet Khosla’s words?
A. She gets refreshed after the walks. B. She dislikes urban life.
C. She wants longer walking hours. D. She hopes to become a guide.
27. What is the author’s attitude towards these women’s walks?
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Objective.

In the 1990s, fewer than 30 Florida panthers(黑豹)remained, and inbreeding(近亲繁殖)threatened their survival. To boost the population’s genetic diversity, scientists brought eight female panthers from Texas into Florida in 1995. Thirty years later, inbreeding has decreased, and the Florida panther population has risen to about 200. Importantly, despite the introduction of new genes, the genetic ancestry that makes Florida panthers their own subspecies hasn’t been wiped out.
The Florida panthers successfully interbred(杂交繁殖)with five of the eight introduced Texas cats, and over time their babies showed fewer signs of inbreeding. But there was a risk that interbreeding the two populations would replace genetic variants unique to Florida panthers. Some of those variants might be adaptations that helped Florida panthers survive in their environment. To study the impacts of the Texas cats’ genes on the present-day Florida panther population, the researchers mapped the genes of present-day Florida panthers that had both Texas and Florida ancestry. They also mapped the genes of the five original Texas cats and four original Florida panthers for comparison. Scientists found that the genes from the Texas cats didn’t wipe out the unique Florida ancestry. Instead, they reduced the effects of harmful genetic mutations(变异)brought about by inbreeding. “Our results show that Florida’s genetics are still very much present,” says Diana Aguilar-Gómez, a conservation expert at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Each organism has two copies of every gene, and harmful characteristics usually appear only if both copies have genetic mutations. Breeding with the Texas cats increased genetic diversity in Florida panthers, making harmful mutations less likely to be expressed, though the benefits may be temporary.
“It’s clear that without the introduction of Texas panthers 30 years ago, we probably wouldn’t have a Florida panther today,” says Robert Fitak, co-author of the study. “That’s why ongoing monitoring is critical. If their numbers drop and inbreeding rises again, we need to act quickly before facing the same problem.”
28. Why were Texas panthers introduced to Florida?
A. To wine out the local panthers’ subspecies. B. To replace Florida panthers’ genetic ancestry.
C. To reduce the negative effects of inbreeding. D. To increase Texas panthers’ genetic diversity.
29. Which of the following was discovered by the researchers?
A. The Florida panthers had more trouble surviving.
B. The Florida panthers’ original genes remained.
C. The Texas panthers’ genes had fewer mutations.
D. The Texas panthers had little impact on inbreeding.
30. What is Robert Fitak’s attitude towards the future of the Florida panthers?
A. Incredibly unclear. B. Surprisingly confident.
C. Casually uncaring. D. Cautiously optimistic.
31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To report a wildlife genetic rescue. B. To confirm a conservation strategy.
C. To explain the effects of inbreeding. D. To examine the extinction of a species.

The recent discovery of 2025 PN7, a quasi-moon(准卫星)orbiting near Earth, shows both the dynamic nature of our solar system and the advancing capabilities of astronomical observation. This small object, recently detected by the Pan-STARRS telescope, has likely been a faint, unseen companion to our planet for about six decades. Its elusiveness is due to its small size, estimated at 62 feet in diameter, making it the smallest-known object of its kind. It only becomes detectable during its rare close approaches, such as swinging within 186,000 miles from Earth.
The existence of 2025 PN7 holds significant scientific value. Firstly, it challenges previous assumptions, suggesting there may be no lower size limit for quasi-satellites, implying many more such small companions could remain undiscovered. Secondly, its origin is of great interest. Like the previously discovered Kamo‘oalewa—a target of China’s Tianwen-2 mission—2025 PN7 is hypothesized to be a rocky, natural object, potentially a fragment from the moon or part of the so-called Arjuna asteroid(小行星)group, which shares Earth-like orbits around the sun. Studying these bodies can unlock secrets of the history of lunar impacts and the composition of near-Earth objects. Furthermore, quasi-moons like 2025 PN7 present practical opportunities for space exploration. As stated by researcher Carlos de la Fuente Marcos, their accessible orbits make them ideal testing grounds for unmanned missions, allowing for the development of planetary exploration technologies with a relatively modest investment. They pose no impact threat, while they serve as convenient stepping stones for deeper space ventures.
In conclusion, the discovery of 2025 PN7 is more than merely cataloging a new quasi-satellite. It highlights the endless surprises within our solar system and opens new avenues to understanding planetary formation and advancing space technology, proving that even the smallest astronomical neighbours can yield profound insights.
32. What does the underlined word “elusiveness” in the first paragraph probably mean?
A. Hard-to-detect nature. B. Fast-moving characteristic.
C. Long-existing property. D. Shape-changing feature.
33. Why does the author mention Kamo‘oalewa in the passage?
A. To illustrate a possible composition and origin of quasi-moons.
B. To compare the exploration plans of different space agencies.
C. To prove that all quasi-satellites are targets of space missions.
D. To warn about the potential dangers of near-Earth objects.
34. According to the passage, what is a potential practical use for quasi-moons like 2025 PN7?
A. Providing rare resources for space research.
B. Being used as bases for human space exploration.
C. Helping predict the movement of near-Earth asteroids.
D. Serving as test sites for technologies of unmanned missions.
35. What can be inferred from the passage about the future study of quasi-moons?
A. It may help scientists identify the specific type of 2025 PN7’s origin.
B. It will mainly focus on assessing their possible threat to Earth.
C. It may deepen scientists’ understanding of the moon’s impact history.
D. It will be stopped due to the high cost of developing exploration tools.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How many times do you find yourself in a conversation with someone, waiting for the other person to stop talking so you can say what you want to say? ++36++ This common experience shows a lack of active listening, because you are only thinking about how you want to respond.
Communication that leads to real human connection involves active listening and empathy. Active listening includes eye contact as well as verbal and non-verbal acknowledgments that you are listening. ++37++ Empathy involves reflection, validation and a genuine concern for how others are feeling. This combination of active listening and empathy—empathetic listening—can improve relationships of all kinds.
++38++ Being brave enough to share with another person is a vulnerable position to be in. Imagine sharing something sad with a friend: “I studied so hard for the math exam, but I still failed it.” Consider these two potential responses and how they would make you feel.
“Oh well, I’m glad I’m not the one taking that exam. Want to hang out?”
“That must be so hard. Thank you for sharing with me. I am here for you.”
The first response might leave one feeling dismissed. Why do people respond like that? Perhaps the comment comes from a place of the listener being uncomfortable with hearing something that taps into their own fears or vulnerability. ++39++ The second response, however, might make one feel heard, seen and supported. It shows the listener heard what the other person was saying, understanding and expressing concern.
So how do you know what to say or not to say when someone shares something difficult with you? Sometimes, the best thing to do is to sit and listen. Brene Brown, a renowned researcher in this field, says it best: “Empathy is a strange and powerful thing. There is no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. ++40++”
A. Shifting the topic might bring comfort to the speaker.
B. These include nodding, confirming, and clarifying questions.
C. Just be empathetic and you’ll have thought-provoking conversations.
D. It’s simply listening, withholding judgment, and emotionally connecting.
E. Everyone wants to feel understood for speaking their thoughts and feelings.
F. The listener may want to shut down the conversation and move to a safer space.
G. You might even expect the other person to completely tune into what you are saying.

When AI Teammates Come on Board, Performance Drops
Researchers studied the impact of artificial intelligence on team functioning. They asked 110 two-person groups to play 12 rounds of a video game in which participants had to collect ingredients for a recipe. After the first six rounds, one member of some teams was ++41++ by an intelligent agent. Over the next six rounds, those groups gathered, on average, three fewer ingredients than groups that remained in their original ++42++. The conclusion: When AI teammates come on board, performance drops.
++43++ studies have already explored the impact of artificial intelligence on individual and firm productivity, but the researchers aimed to understand how AI affects organizational teams internally. ++44++, most work is done in teams. They were curious about the consequences of adding intelligent agents to teams, not just for the people interacting directly with those agents. The researchers also sought to examine what impact it had on the behavior and attitudes of colleagues who ++45++ those interactions.
In the rounds of individual play, the AI players proved far superior to human players. In fact, only 3% of human players ++46++ the AI players.
The team results were a different story. In the initial round after the AI players joined, teams with an AI member gathered 8% fewer ingredients, on average, than teams that kept their ++47++ members. The performance ++48++ narrowed by half over the next four rounds and disappeared in the final round. But even if short-lived, a 4% drop in performance is significant, ++49++ for a large organization with multiple AI projects underway.
Despite the AI’s superior individual performance and the fact that ++50++ were given to the entire team if it performed well, 84% of respondents preferred to play with their human teammates. Surveys of participants showed that AI reduces team sociability and thus ++51++ members’ motivation, effort, and trust.
Interestingly, all-human teams playing alongside an AI-and-human team also saw drops in performance in the first round after the teammate change. These ++52++ contributed equally to the overall productivity loss. This is called the spillover effect, similar to what happens in an organization when an employee departs and ++53++ cooperative practices are upset. ++54++ and processes are disturbed, which harms performance. The same was true in the experiment. Those teams, despite not undergoing a direct change, encountered indirect challenges in ++55++ to the new AI-influenced dynamics within the interconnected environment.

The scorching sun beat down on our sixth—grade class hiking through Blue Mountains. Mr. Thompson, our outdoor education teacher, kept reminding us: “Drink water, watch your footing, and remember-every scratch here could become a life lesson.”
My best mate Josh chuckled, balancing his water bottle like a circus act. “Relax, Em! We’ve done CPR drills a million times. What’s the worst that could—”
A sharp cry cut through the air.
Twenty meters ahead, Lily-the quiet exchange student from Japan-had stumbled into a dried riverbed. Her leg was pinned beneath a pointed rock, blood soaking through her trousers. “I... I think I heard a crack,” she whispered, her face ghostly pale.
Mr. Thompson knelt beside her, his voice steady but urgent. “Lily, don’t move. Everyone else-backpacks off! Josh, get the first aid kit. Emily, find two straight branches for splints(夹板). Now!”
My hands shook as I pressed a bandage against Lily’s wound. Josh froze, staring at the odd angle of her leg. “Focus!” Mr. Thompson snapped, his tone softening as he addressed Lily. “You’re doing brilliantly. Breathe slowly. Help’s coming.”
He turned to us, rapid—firing instructions:
“Josh-control bleeding. Use the pressure bandage from the yellow pouch.”
“Emily-stabilize the leg. Remember the ‘above and below’ rule for splint placement.”
“Sophie-call emergency services. GPS coordinates(坐标)are on my watch.”
Lily gripped my wrist as I positioned the branches. “Will I... walk again?” Her whisper sent chills down my spine.
“Of course you will,” I lied, recalling last week’s first—aid lecture: Broken bones risk infection. Immobilization is critical. I tightened the bandages, whispering apologies each time she screamed.
As dusk approached, the radio crackled with bad news—Ambulance needs 90 minutes. Josh suddenly lunged toward the first aid kit. “Her lips are turning blue! What if it’s shock?”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Lift her legs a bit more,” Mr. Thompson directed.

Recent study show that teenagers spend an average of three to four hours daily on various platforms. In fact, approximately forty five percent of teens report using social media for more than three hours each day. While social media offers benefits like connecting with friends and developing digital skills, excessive use has been linked to increased anxiety, depression and poor sely quality. The constant compares into other seemingly perfect lives can be damaging the self a steam. However, it's important to know that social media is entirely negative. Many Young people find communities where they feel understood and supported. So what's the solution? Rather than banning social media entirely, I recommended schools and corporate digital literacy education into their curriculum, teaching students to use these platforms mindfully and critically, is essential for their well being in the digital age.
