What started as a simple idea from 13-year-old Lois Agnello has turned into an unforgettable journey — one that began with a 3D printer and a dream, and will soon take her all the way to Japan.
Lois was born with only part of her left hand, but she never let that stop her. One day, she went to her science and technology teacher, Mr. Godson, with a great plan: “I wanted to create my own hand with my friends so I could show them what it’s like.”
Mr. Godson was impressed by her enthusiasm (热情). “It really touched a lot of her classmates,” he said. Soon, a group of Year 7 students were spending their lunch breaks learning how to use the school’s 3D printer and testing different materials. “Most of them had never used a 3D printer before, so it was a great challenge,” Mr. Godson added.
With the help from an Australian charity that provides free assistive devices, they kept improving their design. After three months of testing and correcting mistakes, the first working hand was ready. It moved using upper-arm strength through a plastic wrist. When Lois tried it, she couldn’t believe it: “This is crazy! I didn’t even know if it would work!”
But the best part wasn’t just the hand — it was making it together with her friends. “That was the best experience,” Lois said. Her classmates were proud too. One of them said, “It makes me feel really good that Lois got a hand that works — and it makes me want to build an even better one.”
Now, the team has printed three more hands, each better than the last in terms of comfort and flexibility (灵活). Their story has caught global attention. Later this year, they will represent Australia at a youth summit (峰会) in Tokyo.
Mr. Godson said, “Watching Lois share her journey on a world stage will be incredible.” And for Lois, it’s just the beginning.
24. What was Lois’s dream since she was young?
A. To travel to Japan. B. To win a competition.
C. To make a new hand. D. To get global attention.
25. What can we learn about the group of Year 7 students?
A. They were skilled designers. B. They were eager to help Lois.
C. They finished the work in days. D. They had rich 3D printing experience.
26. How did Lois feel when she first tested the working hand?
A. Shocked. B. Doubtful. C. Relaxed. D. Regretful.
27. What message does the author try to show by Lois’s story?
A. Advanced tools are the real key.
B. It is not always bad to be disabled.
C. Always rely on adults to solve problems.
D. Teamwork and determination lead to success.

Nearly everyone in the world has heard of the Olympic Games, and many people are familiar with the Paralympic Games, but very few know about the equally important Transplant Games. Held every year, these games celebrate the courage of transplant recipients (接受者) and the selflessness of donors’ families.
According to a news release from the Sheffield City Council, the games — which the city will host in the summer of 2026 — are the main event for the Transplant Active charity, which aims to raise awareness of organ (器官) donation and inspire recipients to stay healthy and active.
A blog on Westfield Health’s website explains that over 7,000 people in Britain are waiting for organ transplants now. On average, about three people die every day while waiting, but one donor can save more than nine lives.
The lack of donors still exists even though Britain introduced an “opt-out” organ donation law (默认捐献制) in 2020 — everyone is a potential donor unless they say otherwise. However, it is their families that decide whether to donate their loved ones’ organs, and many people never talk with their families about their wishes.
That’s why the Transplant Games are so important. They draw attention to organ donation and show that recipients can live happy, full lives. Anyone healthy who attends at least one team training camp can join.
During the 2025 Games in Oxford, a five-year-old liver (肝) recipient took part in the obstacle race, the 25-meter sprint, and the ball throw. Another participant, who received a kidney at age 13 and is now 36, trains for the Games every year.
Then there is Jenny Glithero, who had an emergency liver transplant. Six months after learning to breathe again, she was back on a bike, training for the Games. She told Positive News, “Why do I do this? Because I’ve been given the gift of life. It is a way to honor my donor. Some people go to church. I get on the bike.”
28. What is the main purpose of the Transplant Games?
A. To honor outstanding athletes. B. To attract tourists to Sheffield.
C. To compete with the Olympics. D. To encourage organ donation.
29. What can we learn about organ donation in Britain?
A. Its law works perfectly. B. Donors’ choices are final.
C. Few patients need transplants. D. Demand is greater than supply.
30. What can be inferred from the examples in paragraphs 6 and 7?
A. Recipients rebuild life actively. B. Organ failure affects all age groups.
C. Athletes must be young and energetic. D. Sports games require professional skills.
31. What is the main focus of the text?
A. The importance of Transplant Games. B. The popularity of international games.
C. The development of British sports laws. D. The new method to solve organ shortage.
D
Long before cities, farming, or written records, Ice Age humans carved small lines and dots into ivory(象牙) and bone. At first look, these marks seem simple. But new research suggests they may be one of the earliest steps toward written language.
For years, historians have believed writing began in ancient Mesopotamia around 5,300 years ago. There, early symbols helped record goods and trade. However, a new study suggests that the roots of writing go much deeper — more than 30,000 years.
The study looks at 40,000-year-old Ice Age symbols carved into bone, stone, and ivory. Instead of seeing them as just decoration, researchers asked a different question: Do these marks follow a pattern?
Scientists found the carvings in caves in southwestern Germany. The objects include animal figures, stone pieces, and tools dating from 45,000 to 34,000 years ago. Many carry repeated dots, short lines, crosses, and notches. The research team built a digital database of more than 3,000 signs from 260 objects. They studied how often symbols appeared and how they were grouped. The results showed structure. Some signs appear more often than others, and some come in regular orders. The arrangements show purpose, not random action.
To understand what that structure means, the researchers compared the carvings to early writing boards from Mesopotamia. They measured the statistical complexity of each system — that is, how much predictable information a symbol system carries. The Ice Age symbols showed levels of order similar to those early writing systems.
One detail stood out. Animal figures often show more complex symbol patterns than tools. This difference suggests the marks may have carried social orritual (仪式) meaning. Perhaps they showed identity. Perhaps they marked ownership, memory, or belief. We cannot read them today. Still, the patterns suggest that people in those groups understood them. The marks may have worked as shared visual signals long before alphabets (字母) existed.
These carvings do not form a full writing system. But they do show repeated, rule-based combinations. That kind of shared structure forms the backbone of written communication.
32. What is the new study’s main discovery?
A. Old signs were only simple art.
B. Written language has a longer history.
C. Mesopotamia invented the first written words.
D. Ice Age cut signs made a full written language.
33. How did the researchers study the Ice Age signs?
A. By analyzing the rules and order of signs.
B. By gathering old things all over the world.
C. By keeping records of old business actions.
D. By confirming the exact meaning of old marks.
34. What do the complex animal images suggest?
A. They had important social uses. B. They were used for daily counting.
C. They were made by clever workers. D. They followed rules from Mesopotamia.
35. Which is the best title for the text?
A. The Start of Old Business B. Old Art on Ancient Objects
C. Ice Age Signs and Written Language D. The Story of Mesopotamian Writing

Music and Its Role in Human Life
Music is one of the most universal forms of human expression. From ancient songs to modern pop, it has been an important part of every culture around the world. But why does music play such an important role in our daily lives? 36
One reason is that music helps us deal with our emotions in a healthy way. When people feel happy, sad, or angry, they often listen to music that matches or changes how they feel. 37 A sad song can bring comfort during difficult times, while an upbeat song can make us feel energetic and hopeful again. Sometimes, when we cannot find the right words, music speaks for us instead.
Music can bring people together. Think of concerts, festivals, or singing with friends. 38 These shared moments create a feeling of belonging. Scientists have found that making music in a group releases chemicals in our brains that increase trust and teamwork. Even strangers can become friends through a shared love of a song.
39 Studies show that children who learn an instrument often do better in subjects like math and language. Music training improves memory, attention, and problem-solving. For adults, listening to music while working can help them focus and even make boring tasks more enjoyable.
However, not everyone reacts to music in the same way. Personal taste, cultural background, and past experiences all affect how we feel about a piece of music. 40 Some people find energy in rock, while others prefer the calm of classical music. But one thing is clear: music will always be an important part of human life.
A. Music is also good for the brain.
B. Music can be a way to celebrate.
C. The answer lies in its effects on us.
D. Different people like different music.
E. You don’t need special skills to enjoy music.
F. These activities connect people in a special way.
G. Music helps us say what we cannot put into words.

Adam was a high school freshman who worked every Saturday at his uncle’s small repair shop. He fixed old radios, clocks, and sometimes even toys. He wasn’t paid much, but he loved bringing broken things back to life.
One freezing afternoon, an old man walked into the shop carrying a dusty wooden box. His hands were shaking from the cold, and his coat had several holes. “Can you fix this?” he asked in a weak voice. “It’s a music box. It was my wife’s. She passed away ten years ago, and it stopped playing last month. I can’t afford much, but this box is all I have left of her.”
Adam opened the box. Inside were a small dancer figurine (人偶) and a broken spring. He knew the repair would take hours. “I’ll try,” Adam said. The old man thanked him and said, “I’ll come back next Saturday. I have no phone, so please keep it safe.” Then he left, walking slowly into the cold.
Adam worked on the music box every night after homework. He replaced the spring and cleaned every tiny gear (齿轮). On Thursday, the box finally played its soft, sweet melody (旋律) again. Adam smiled, imagining how happy the old man would be.
But Saturday came, and the old man did not return. A week passed, then two. Adam kept the music box on his desk, playing it sometimes and wondering what had happened to its owner. His uncle suggested throwing it away, but Adam refused. “I promised to keep it safe,” he said.
One month later, a young woman walked into the shop. She looked tired and worried. “Excuse me,” she said, “Did an old man leave a music box here about a month ago? He is ill and can’t come to fetch it. He is my father.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Dear Tom,
How is everything going? I’m very happy to know you’re going to travel in China. From my point of view, Xi’an is a better choice for you.
As an ancient capital of China, Xi’an is home to the world-famous Terracotta Army, which can help you learn about Chinese history easily. You can also try all kinds of tasty local snacks like roujiamo. What’s more, people there are friendly and the city is not as crowded as Beijing.
I believe you will fall in love with Xi’an. If you come, I can even show you around! I’m looking forward to your coming.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
Adam was glad that he had kept this music box. He gently picked it up and showed it to the woman. Then he wound the spring, and the room was filled with the sweet, gentle melody. The woman’s eyes immediately filled with tears. “My father has been talking about this music box every day in the hospital. He was so sad he couldn’t come back, but he never forgot your promise.” she said. Adam handed her the box carefully, hoping it would bring comfort to the old man.
The woman thanked Adam for his kindness and keeping promise. She tried to pay him, but Adam shook his head. “Your father said he couldn’t afford much,” Adam said. The woman smiled through her tears and promised to bring her father the music box that was safe and playing again. As she left, Adam felt warm inside despite the cold weather. He realized that fixing things wasn’t just about gears and springs — it was about mending the heart, too.

W: Did you sell everything?

New research from the Netherlands finds that if teenagers cut down on evening use of phones and computers, their sleep quality will get better in just 7 days. They will also feel less tired and be able to focus better. On average, teens who spend over 4 hours on screens daily go to bed and wake up 30 minutes later than those with less than 1 hour of screen time.
The research team tested 25 heavy screen users in two ways: wearing blue-light-blocking glasses or avoiding screens at night. After a week, both ways helped the teens fall asleep and wake up 20 minutes earlier, and their sleep loss signs were reduced. The study was carried out by three Dutch research organizations.
Most experts praised the research, but they also said more studies are needed to confirm the results.
