固定搭配give it a try“试一试”。 主语是some kids,需用形容词性物主代词their修饰new clothes。 前文明确提到“could get angry easily”,且这些画的主题都是让他生气的事,因此make me so angry“让我很生气”符合语境。 前后句为转折关系,“You’re getting so mad”与“you never try to get to know why”形成对比,用but“但是”连接。 A Welcome to Sunshine Hotel! It was a class called “Ready, Set, Give!” at West Suburban Summer School, Minnesota, US. For five days, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, Hannah, Annette, Adelaide, Allison and Ben designed activities that could bring more positive energy into the world. They learned a lot about service projects. For example, after hearing about “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon”, a program that provides care to soldiers, the students made cards for soldiers themselves. They filled care packages (爱心包裹) with nuts, beef jerky, toothbrushes and even air fresheners. The best part, though, was choosing their own service projects. Adelaide is planning to set up a lemonade stand (柠檬汁小摊) to help the homeless. Annette is interested in protecting animals. She plans to create posters to help people realize the dangers of ocean litter, pesticides (杀虫剂) and pollution. Hannah and Allison are focusing on protecting the rights and health of young people. Ben wants to help people do a better job of recycling plastic. The students also visited Prism, a social service agency in Minnesota. They worked for five hours, sorting donations (整理捐赠物), putting food on the shelves and doing some cleaning. Sarah Bailey, the activity’s organizer, is confident that the students’ projects will be successful. “These guys are ready to take action,” Bailey said. “It’s more than I hoped for.” 47. How long did the class “Ready, Set, Give” last? A. For 3 days. B. For 4 days. C. For 5 days. 48. What did students do for “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon”? A. Made cards. B. Drew pictures. C. Sold lemon juice. 49. Whose service projects are designed to protect the environment? A. Annette’s. B. Ben’s. C. Hannah’s. 50. What can be inferred from the text? A. Students spent the same time in different service places. B. Sarah Bailey is satisfied with the students’ performance. C. Students only helped the homeless and poor people. 51. What’s the best title of the passage? A. Ways to Protect Animals B. A Summer School C. Meaningful Volunteer Work 【答案】47. C 48. A 49. B 50. B 51. 【47题详解】 根据第二段第二句“For five days, from 8:30 am to 4 pm...” 【48题详解】 根据第三段第二句“...after hearing about ‘Beyond the Yellow Ribbon’... the students made cards for soldiers themselves.” 【50题详解】 根据最后两段,组织者Sarah Bailey表示“confident that the students’ projects will be successful”(确信项目会成功)并说“It’s more than I hoped for”(超出了我的期望),这表明她对学生的表现感到满意。 C Unlike dogs, cats often seem like they don’t show much emotion. But some cat-loving scientists are working hard to change this idea. According to a study, cats might be able to make more expressions than you think. The study was made by Lauren Scott and Brittany Florkiewicz at the University of California in Los Angeles, US. From August 2021 to June 2022, Scott spent time filming 54 adult shorthair cats at the CatCafe Lounge, a rescue organization (救助组织) where visitors can interact with friendly cats. In total, Scott recorded 194 minutes of video, focusing especially on the faces that cats made to each other. She then studied her films with Florkiewicz, an expert on how animals think and feel. Together, the researchers found that cats have 276 unique expressions. Each of these is made by combining four of 26 different facial movements, such as blinking (眨眼), licking their nose, opening their mouths or widening and narrowing the pupils (瞳孔) of their eyes. By comparison, humans have 44 different facial movements, while dogs have 27. Of these 276 looks, 45 percent were considered friendly, while 37 percent were seen as being aggressive. In general, Scott and Florkiewicz found that cats would move their ears and whiskers (胡须) in another cat’s direction when they were being friendly, and away from them when they were being unfriendly. An angry cat will flatten (压平) its ears and narrow its pupils. Exactly what cats are trying to say with most of their expressions is still a mystery, however. Scott and Florkiewicz hope to solve this puzzle with more research. 52. What study did Lauren Scott and Brittany Florkiewicz make? A. The cats’ facial expressions. B. The cats’ rescue activities. C. Human expressions toward cats. 53. How are cats’ 276 expressions made? A. By copying human’s facial expression. B. By using four of 26 different facial movements. C. By mixing dogs’ angry expressions. 54. What does the underlined word “aggressive” mean? A. Quiet. B. Calm. C. Unkind. 55. What are Paragraphs 3-5 mainly about? A. How the scientists got the prize. B. Why cats have more expressions. C. What the scientists found about cats. 56. What’s the purpose of this text? A. To encourage people to help homeless cats. B. To introduce a new research about cats’ expressions. C. To teach people how to communicate with cats by facial expressions. A 53. B 54. C 55. C 56. 【52题详解】 第一段明确指出“According to a study, cats might be able to make more expressions than you think.”,第二段进一步说明该研究由Lauren Scott和Brittany Florkiewicz在UCLA开展,内容聚焦于记录猫的面部表情,因此研究对象是猫的面部表情。 【53题详解】 第三段明确说明:“Each of these is made by combining four of 26 different facial movements,”,即276种表情是通过26种不同面部动作中选取4种组合而成。 【54题详解】 第五段中“aggressive”与“friendly”形成对比,且后文描述“An angry cat will flatten its ears and narrow its pupils.”,说明aggressive意为“不友善的、有攻击性的”,与unkind含义一致。 D Recently, a 23-year-old surfer Kai McKenzie surprised people with his courage. On July 23, 2024, a big white shark hit him and took his right leg. He was sent to the hospital at once where he was treated and spent more than one month. He couldn’t believe this at first. But after the accident, he kept his spirits lifted by his resolution to go back to the water before the end of 2024. He didn’t want to give up his love for surfing. Four months later, after the accident, McKenzie was able to get back to the waves and surfed on his one remaining leg. He achieved his goal to get back into surfing as soon as he could. He took off his artificial limb and began to ride the waves and practice new moves. Although he felt a bit nervous, he still managed to catch several waves. “I’m so happy and proud of myself! Difficulties can never take me away from the ocean!” said McKenzie. Mark Stewart praised McKenzie’s return. He is a 62-year-old surfing world champion in the Paralympics. He said it was very brave of McKenzie to go back to surfing. Stewart also lost one of his legs at 15. He said it was difficult to surf with one leg at first. B Five middle school students, all wearing “choose kindness” T-shirts, sat around a table discussing how to turn that message into action. What’s the best title of the passage? A. Ways to Protect Animals B. A Summer School C. Meaningful Volunteer Work C Unlike dogs, cats often seem like they don’t show much emotion. D Recently, a 23-year-old surfer Kai McKenzie surprised people with his courage. But he believed McKenzie, being young, would overcome the challenge quickly. He encouraged McKenzie to take part in the Paralympics. “He is still young and has endless possibilities. His future can only get better and more hopeful from now on,” he said. 57. What happened to Kai McKenzie on July 23, 2024? _____________________________ 58.
