“Every life is a boat, the dream is the boat sail.” Every child has a dream of what they want to be. When Renee Butts was little, her dream was to become a volunteer fire fighter because her father was one. Sadly, when she was 14, her beloved father died and she was never able to do volunteer work with him. However, Renee’s story didn’t end there. She was determined and never gave up, which makes for a good firefighter.
Now Renee is a member of the Carmel Fire Department, where she is required to be an Emergency Medical Technician. She should also be ready to deal with any emergency, like fighting a fire, dealing with a car accident or helping someone who’s sick. Sometimes she is in the driver’s seat or using the water pump. Renee works nine to eleven days a month on 24-hour shifts. She also has a family to care for, as her husband is also a busy fire fighter. Dealing with housework and working so much can show her great determination.
When I asked Renee what the best part of her job was, she replied, “Helping people and saving lives.” I think that shows signs of being a true hero. She’s always willing to do anything for anyone in need. Renee says that her job is frightening at times, but extremely exciting. “The worst part of my job is that I see death. Actually, sometimes people die in the accident, for which I am very sorry.” With 140 people in her station, Renee is one of the only three women, but that doesn’t bother her. She says everyone can get a fair shot and do the same jobs.
I was inspired by this because I knew I would be very scared to do her job and didn’t know if I could handle seeing people die. We would never live without people like her who have the courage to risk their lives. Renee’s determination rubs off on me and makes me believe that I can do anything.
4. What happened to Renee when she was fourteen?
A. She got lost in a boat sailing. B. She dropped out of school.
C. Her father passed away. D. Her dream to be a firefighter came true.
5. Why does the author believe Renee Butts is a true hero?
A. She always tries her best to help anyone in need. B. She is one of the only three women in her station.
C. She has been a firefighter for a long time. D. She feels sorry for the people dying in the accident.
6. How does Renee think of her job?
A. Simple and pleasant. B. Frightening but exciting.
C. Relaxing and comfortable. D. Challenging but promising.
7. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. Renee’s story is an inspiration to the author. B. The author feels very scared to do Renee’s job.
C. The author could handle seeing people die. D. Renee encourages the author to risk the life.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in the restoration (修复) of Dunhuang murals (壁画). Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, located in Gansu Province, are home to more than 45,000 square meters of murals, some of which date back over 1,600 years. However, these precious artworks are facing threats from natural aging, climate change, and human activities.
A team of researchers from Tsinghua University has developed an AI-based system to assist in mural restoration. The system first uses high-resolution cameras to document detailed images of the murals. Then, AI algorithms (算法) analyze the images to identify damaged areas, such as cracks, fading, and peeling. “AI can quickly and accurately detect even the smallest damages that are difficult for human eyes to spot,” said Professor Chen, the leader of the research team.
After identifying the damaged areas, the AI system provides restoration suggestions based on historical data and the style of the murals. For example, if a color has faded, the AI can recommend the most appropriate color to match the original. The system also helps restorers simulate (模拟)the restoration effect before actual work begins, which reduces the risk of mistakes.
“The AI system has greatly improved the efficiency and accuracy of mural restoration,” Professor Chen said. “What used to take restorers months to complete can now be done in a few weeks with the help of AI.” However, Professor Chen also pointed out that AI is only an assistant tool. “Human restorers still play a crucial role in making final decisions, as restoration requires not only technical skills but also a deep understanding of the cultural and historical background of the murals.”
Some experts are concerned about the over-reliance on AI in cultural heritage restoration. “We should not let AI replace human judgment completely,” said Dr. Li, a cultural heritage expert. “The value of cultural heritage lies not only in its appearance but also in the human emotions and craftsmanship behind it.”
8. What is the main threat to Dunhuang murals mentioned in the text?
A. Lack of research funds. B. Limited restoration technology.
C. Natural aging and human actions. D. Lack of professional restorers.
9. What is the first step of the AI-based restoration system?
A. Analyzing the damaged areas.
B. Recording images of the murals in detail.
C. Providing restoration suggestions.
D. Simulating the effect of restoration.
10. Why is human involvement still important in mural restoration?
A. AI fails to detect small damages.
B. AI is too expensive to use widely.
C. AI works more slowly than human restorers.
D. AI lacks cultural and historical understanding.
11. What is Dr. Li’s attitude towards the use of AI in mural restoration?
A. Strongly opposed. B. Indifferent. C. Cautious. D. Fully supportive.
【答案】8. C 9. B 10. D 11. C

Recent headlines have raised concerns about microplastics in our bodies and the harm they may be doing. “The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat — it’s in it,” said Richard Thompson, a marine biologist at the University of Plymouth.
Microplastics mostly come from larger plastics, which degrade (降解) with use or when they aren’t disposed of properly. These microplastics end up in our air, soil, water and food. The wear and tear on our car tires, for example, produces particles that pollute the air and water. Humans breathe in these particles — and harmful chemicals within them.
Microplastics have been found in human stool (粪便) and urine. Some studies have suggested that the plastic not excreted in waste appears to pass out of the gut and into the blood, and from there can migrate to other organs like the liver and brain. Animal studies indicate that microplastics can also affect lung and gut functioning and may increase the risk for lung and colon cancer.
One of the most effective steps might simply be not drinking from plastic water bottles, especially if they’ve been sitting out in the sun. Another is to avoid heating food in plastic containers. Experts recommended switching to glass or steel containers for food storage. Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables can help, too. Regularly vacuuming your house and using an air purifier can reduce the amount of microplastics.
These measures have limitations, however. Plastic is widespread and often the most affordable option. “It shouldn’t all be on the consumer to have to make those choices,” said Christy Tyler, a professor of environmental science at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Experts, including Tyler, said governments would have to regulate and reduce nonessential plastics to stop that accumulation. Some already have. The United States and Europe banned the use of microbeads (微珠) in makeup, for example, and several U.S. states are phasing out Styrofoam in food packaging. And 175 countries have agreed to create a United Nations treaty to end plastic pollution. Compared to 20 years ago, Dr. Thompson said, there’s now “a public appetite” for change.
12. What can we learn about microplastics?
A. They produce particles into the air. B. They are from food and drinks.
C. They can be degraded properly. D. They may cause health problems.
13. Which of the following best explains “excreted” underlined in paragraph 3?
A. added B. released C. created D. controlled
14. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Approaches to keeping healthy. B. Effective steps for heating food.
C. Measures for using plastic device. D. Ways of avoiding microplastics.
15. What can be inferred from Christy Tyler’s words?
A. Consumers are blamed for spreading plastics.
B. Governments should fine people for using plastics.
C. Governments are responsible for reducing plastics.
D. Consumers need to pay attention to plastic pollution.
【答案】12. D 13. B 14. D 15. C
【解析】

【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“Some studies have suggested that the plastic not excreted in waste appears to pass out of the gut and into the blood, and from there can migrate to other organs like the liver and brain.(一些研究表明,未在排泄物中排出的塑料似乎会从肠道进入血液,然后从血液迁移到肝脏和大脑等其他器官)”可知,“not excreted in waste”与“pass out of the gut and into the blood”形成对比,即未随排泄物排出的塑料会进入血液,“excreted”意为“排出、释放”,与“released”含义一致。故选B项。
【14题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段中的“One of the most effective steps might simply be not drinking from plastic water bottles, especially if they’ve been sitting out in the sun. Another is to avoid heating food in plastic containers. Experts recommended switching to glass or steel containers for food storage. Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables can help, too. Regularly vacuuming your house and using an air purifier can reduce the amount of microplastics.
根据第五段中的““It shouldn’t all be on the consumer to have to make those choices,” said Christy Tyler, a professor of environmental science at the Rochester Institute of Technology. (罗切斯特理工学院环境科学教授克里斯蒂·泰勒说:“不应该让消费者独自承担做出这些选择的全部责任。”)”以及第六段中的“Experts, including Tyler, said governments would have to regulate and reduce nonessential plastics to stop that accumulation.(包括泰勒在内的专家表示,政府必须监管并减少非必需塑料的使用,以阻止其堆积)”可知,泰勒认为减少塑料使用不应只依赖消费者,政府也应承担责任。故选C项。

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last term, something terrible happened to my friend Jake. He had always been confident and quick-minded, but he failed an important math exam that would decide his final grade. The score was so low that it shocked everyone, including himself.
From that day on, I noticed that everything about him changed. He stopped raising his hand in class, avoided talking about studies, and often sat alone during breaks, just staring at his paper with a look of shame. He was afraid of being laughed at, afraid of being seen as “stupid”, and afraid of losing the pride he had always had. He even began to refuse to study with us, saying that he was not in the mood. I could feel his pain, but I knew clearly: any direct comfort would only make him more uncomfortable. Any word of pity would hurt him deeply. It was not what I wanted to see.
For days, I was trapped in confusion and worry. I wanted to give him a hand, but I didn’t know how to do it. I was afraid that if I said “Don’t be sad,” he would think I felt sorry for him. I was afraid that if I offered to teach him, he would think I looked down on his ability. I was afraid that any care shown too obviously would destroy his last bit of confidence. I walked home slowly, thinking again and again: How could I lift a friend up without letting him feel weak? How could I help him regain courage while fully protecting his pride? I did not want him to feel that he was being “helped”. I wanted him to feel that he was still capable, still valued, and still able to shine. After long and careful thought, I finally made a gentle secret plan.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
My plan was to ask for his help instead of helping him.

Slowly, Jake became the lively boy he once was.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 My plan was to ask for his help instead of helping him. I knew Jake was good at logical thinking, so I turned to him for math problems I truly couldn’t work out. Every time I asked him patiently, he would hesitate at first, but soon began to explain the formulas and ideas clearly. I listened carefully and praised his way of thinking sincerely. Gradually, he was willing to discuss study problems with me voluntarily. He no longer avoided his math paper and started to face his failure calmly.
Slowly, Jake became the lively boy he once was. He began to raise his hand in class again and chatted with us happily during breaks. He realized one exam failure didn’t define him at all. With confidence regained, he made a detailed plan to improve his math. I was glad that my quiet and gentle plan worked perfectly. True friendship is not about direct comfort, but about protecting a friend’s pride and helping him find his own shine again.

D
