Chinese scientific research ship Tansuo 1 returned to Guangzhou on May 10, 2026. It has successfully finished the first China-Chile joint manned deep-sea exploration (中智联合载人深海考察) in the Atacama Trench (阿塔卡马海沟). This exploration shows China is active in ocean research.
The whole exploration lasted 156 days. The ship set out from Sanya on December 6, 2025. During the long journey, it traveled more than 40,000kilometers, which is almost as long as going around the whole earth. 83 researchers from six countries took part in this task together. This wonderful cooperation helps people to know more about the deep sea.
During the exploration, China’s home-made submersible (潜水器) Fendouzhe, carried by Tansuo 1, finished 63 deep-sea dives. Among them, 50 dives reached more than 6,000 meters deep under water. The research team collected plenty of biological samples (生物样本), together with clear underwater videos. These findings provide strong support for studies on deep-sea biology and environmental science.
The team mainly explored two special deep-sea areas — the Atacama Trench over 8,000 meters deep and the Mussau Trench in the western Pacific Ocean. Scientists made several great new discoveries. They found changes on the seabed left by ancient earthquakes. And the most important thing is that they discovered a special living system deep under the sea. All these are important for deep-sea studies. They also show China’s strong ability in deep-sea research, making a big difference to world ocean science.

Do you often forget where you left your glasses? Have you failed to remember the English words you learned yesterday? Memory problems are quite normal in daily life. 41
Use your different body senses (感知).
42 Take your glasses as an example. You often forget where you put them because you don’t notice the things around them. Next time you put them down, look at the color of the table, listen to the sound of the room, or even notice the smell nearby. These small details will help you recall the place quickly later.
Connect new things with what you know.
When you learn new knowledge, your brain naturally connect it with what you have already learned. 43 You can do this by using personal examples or telling short stories. For example, if you learn the new word “generous”, you can use the word “kind” to understand the similar meaning.
44
It’s also a good way to teach what you’ve learned to others if you want to make your memory better. When you explain a difficult lesson to your classmates or family, you have to organize your ideas. This process helps you find out what you don’t fully understand and develop your memory.
In a word, these tips are good for improving memory. 45
A. Teach what you’ve learned to others.
B. Take notes while reading to remember information.
C. Here are some helpful tips for you to improve your memory.
D. Your eyes, ears and nose can help you remember things well.
E. Some people prefer to study alone while others like group study.
F. So it is wise to connect new information with your own life experience.
G. If you keep using these good ways, your memory will get better step by step.
