67.例文
Paragraph 1: The day of the English speech competition finally arrived. Walking into the hall with my heart beating fast, I saw many students waiting nervously for their turn. When my name was called, I took a deep breath and stepped onto the stage calmly. I looked at the audience and saw Ms. Liu sitting in the front row, smiling and nodding at me to encourage me. With her warm gaze, I began my speech smoothly, trying my best to express every word clearly and confidently. I focused on my speech and forgot all my nervousness gradually.
Paragraph 2: When I finished my speech, the hall was filled with loud claps and cheers. I bowed politely and walked off the stage with a big smile. In the end, I won the second prize, which made me extremely excited and proud. Ms. Liu congratulated me sincerely and said that my courage and hard work deserved the reward. This unforgettable experience taught me that we should never let fear hold us back from chasing our dreams. As long as we believe in ourselves and keep trying bravely, we will surely make our dreams come true and grow into a better self.

Before breaking his back and injuring his spinal cord (脊髓) as a result of the fall from a high mountain in 2023, Darren Edwards’ dream had been to climb Mount Qomolangma one day. “I knew that Qomolangma was out for me after the accident, but I’m fortunate because I was able to take on some other great challenges with the support of some good friends,” Darren said.
Earlier this year, Darren joined the first all-disabled team to move across Europe’s largest icecap, unsupported and unassisted, on a sit-ski. It was during this trip that he realised he was no longer battling against his limitations. Rather, he was enjoying a very special adventure, one that he was able to do though he was disabled. “This was when I started dreaming of an even bigger adventure — to complete the furthest journey on a sit-ski in the history of the South Pole exploration,” he said.
Darren now skis for 10 to 12 hours every day. “I am not training to be able to go faster, but to make myself ready for an endurance (耐力) challenge because I need to cover 333 km in temperatures below -20℃ before reaching the South Pole,” he said. “But I am fairly pleased to have the opportunity to take on the sit-ski exploration, especially because for one year after my accident I did not imagine I would be able to take up such challenges.” He also believes that the adventure will provide inspiration for anyone who has a spinal injury or anyone who is struggling.
Realising how fortunate he has been to be encouraged by others to take on new challenges and adventures, Darren and a friend have started a business, Adaptive Expeditions. “I know how much I have gained from being able to take on adventures that I never. imagined would be possible due to the spinal cord injury. So we want to inspire individuals with disabilities by offering the same opportunities and impactful explorations to push their limits and discover their potential,” Darren said.
24.What did Darren learn from his sit-ski experience in Europe?
A.Teamwork leads to a successful journey.
B.The disabled deserve support and assistance.
C.Physical disabilities never define a person.
D.Adventurous trips discourage disabled people.
25.Why does Darren train hard for his scheduled journey to the South Pole?
A.To prepare for physical limits. B.To improve his speed on the ski.
C.To reduce his disability impact. D.To learn basic ski skills quickly.
26.How does Darren feel about his upcoming trip to the South Pole?
A.Stressed and nervous. B.Positive and determined.
C.Relieved and encouraged. D.Worried and puzzled.
27.What does Darren want to do by founding Adaptive Expeditions?
A.Teach the disabled to adapt to their daily life.
B.Encourage the disabled to make more friends.
C.Help the disabled turn hobbies into work.
D.Provide life-changing opportunities for the disabled.

The researchers have now designed a way to capture carbon from ships, which are responsible for about 3 percent of all human-caused CO2 emissions (排放物) and have limited options to reduce their footprints.
When seawater absorbs CO2, it becomes acidic enough to break down limestone. The rock then reacts with CO2 in the water to form bicarbonate minerals, which can remain stable in the ocean for millennia. This is one of the primary ways that the planet removes CO2 from the atmosphere over long timescales. Speeding up the rate at which limestone dissolves (溶解) will transform more CO2 into stable bicarbonate.
Jess Adkins at Calcarea, the start-up behind the technique, says tests in California demonstrated that two prototypes can turn at least 30 percent of the CO2 in diesel engine exhaust into bicarbonate. It is now working with the research arm of Lomar Shipping, a global shipping company to test the system on a ship. The on-board test would involve compressing (压缩) exhaust, and then bubbling it through large volumes of seawater, using the movement of the ship as a water pump to save on energy. The more acidic water would then flow over crushed limestone to form bicarbonate, before being discharged back into the ocean.
Adkins says this technique doesn’t need much space and is more flexible than other ways, which require storing captured emissions on board and offloading them at specialised ports. Still, he estimates the system would take up about 4 percent of the space on a large bulk carrier ship sailing on a long voyage.
Phil Renforth at Heriot-Watt University in the UK says the idea is interesting but could face a few problems. For one, it’s hard to collect all the CO2 from exhaust. As more choices for low-emission shipping fuels become available, that may prove to be a better choice than capturing emissions.
28.How does dissolved limestone become bicarbonate minerals?
A.By being compressed. B.By reacting with CO2.
C.By combining with minerals. D.By being put in an air-free space.
29.What is an advantage of the system compared to other ways?
A.It saves space. B.It recycles CO2.
C.It uses no energy. D.It offers ships power.
30.What is Renforth’s attitude to the system?
A.Positive. B.Curious. C.Uncaring. D.Doubtful.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Turning CO2 into a liquid is finally achieved
B.A chemical reaction can reduce CO2 emissions
C.Ships can store their CO2 emissions underwater
D.A new way to transport CO2 from ships is found
D
Swimmers can drown in busy swimming pools when lifeguards fail to notice that they are in trouble. Now a company has developed an artificial intelligence system called Poseidon that sounds the alarm when it sees someone in danger of drowning.
When a swimmer sinks towards the bottom of the pool, the new system sends an alarm signal to a poolside monitoring station and a lifeguard’s pager. In trials at a pool in Ancenis, near Nantes, it saved a life within just a few months, says Alistair McQuade, a spokesman for its maker, Poseidon Technologies.
Poseidon keeps watch through a network of underwater and overhead video cameras. AI software analyses the images to work out swimmers’ trajectories (轨迹). To do this reliably, it has to tell the difference between a swimmer and the shadow of someone being cast onto the bottom or side of the pool.
It does the same with an image from another camera viewing the shape from a different angle. If the two projections are in the same position, the shape is identified as a shadow and is ignored. But if they are different, the shape is a swimmer and so the system follows its trajectory.
To pick out potential drowning victims, anyone in the water who starts to descend (下降) slowly is added to the software’s “pre-alarm” list, says McQuade. Swimmers who then stay immobile on the pool bottom for five seconds or more are considered in danger of drowning. Poseidon double-checks that the image really is of a swimmer, not a shadow, by seeing whether it obscures (使模糊) the pool’s floor texture when viewed from overhead. If so, it alarms the lifeguard, showing the swimmer’s location on a poolside screen.
The first full-scale Poseidon system was officially opened at a pool in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. One man who is impressed with the idea is Travor Baylis, inventor of the clockwork radio. Baylis runs a company that sets up swimming pools — and he was once an underwater escapologist (脱身杂技演员) with a circus. “I say full marks to them if this works and can save lives,” he says.
32.The underlined word “monitoring” in paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.advertising B.watching C.maintaining D.training
33.What is required of AI software to save a life?
A.It must be able to descend in the water. B.It must be able to videotape every movement.
C.It can tell a swimmer from a shadow. D.It can save a life within a few months.
34.How does Poseidon save a life?
A.It displays the swimmer’s shadow on the screen.
B.It orders an underwater robot to rescue the drowning swimmer.
C.It watches the pool through dozens of overhead cameras.
D.It warns the lifeguard and tells the swimmer’s spot on a poolside screen.
35.Which of the following statements about Travor Baylis is NOT true?
A.He runs a company. B.He invented the clockwork radio.
C.He was once an entertainer. D.He owns a swimming pool.

Reading books can be a great way to pick up new vocabulary and develop your understanding of a language while enjoying your time. 36 But are you feeling confused by what to read? Here are some useful tips for you.
For beginners, I would recommend starting with something short and simple. Avoid the classics, for they often use very old English words and the themes are sometimes hard to understand. Children’s books can be a great place to start with. 37 His books are written in perfect rhyme (押韵) and they are all very funny. Starting with something like this means you are more likely to finish the book and want to read more.
38 This book isn’t too difficult and if you’ve seen the film, it may be easier to follow. If you like reading about historical events, Anne Holm’s I am David is a good read.
If you’re not quite ready to read a full book, why not try Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes? 39 Or, try a very short book like one from Roger Hargreaves’s Mr Menand Little Miss series. Although they are intended for young children, they are a good way to pick up some more basic vocabulary.
My last piece of advice is to read something that interests you. Look at the short summary of the book on the back cover and see if it looks like something that you will enjoy. Think about the type that is in your own language and find that type in English. 40
A.For example, Dr Seuss’s books are sure to make you laugh.
B.All in all, the key to success is choosing the right book for you.
C.It means reading books can bring you knowledge as well as fun.
D.How much you can understand a book depends on your vocabulary.
E.You’re more likely to enjoy reading rather than see it as a headache.
F.For more advanced learners, you could try Wonder by R. J. Palacio.
G.It contains lots of short stories, based on fairy tales, all written in rhyme.

I have always been fond of English speeches, but I was born a shy girl who was afraid of standing in front of a crowd. When I entered Senior One, our school held an English speech competition, which I dreamed of taking part in for a long time. However, the fear of being laughed at always stopped me from signing up. I was worried that I would forget my words or make silly mistakes in pronunciation during the speech.
My English teacher Ms. Liu found my desire and my fear. She is a patient and knowledgeable teacher who always encourages us to challenge ourselves. One day, she talked to me softly and said that courage isn’t about being fearless-it’s choosing to keep going even when I’m scared. She told me that every chance to try was a step to grow, even if I failed. Her words touched my heart deeply, and I finally made up my mind to sign up for the competition. I spent all my extra time practicing my speech. I read it aloud again and again to correct my pronunciation, and I asked Ms. Liu to help me polish (润色) the speech and correct my grammar mistakes. She guided me patiently and taught me some skills of public speaking, like how to make eye contact with the audience and control my speed.
As the competition drew near, my nervousness grew day by day. I practiced my speech hundreds of times, yet I still felt anxious, afraid that I would let myself and Ms. Liu down. I even thought about giving up when I stumbled over (磕磕绊绊地说) some sentences during the last practice before the competition.
On the eve of the competition, Ms. Liu sent me a short message, which said, “Believe in yourself, and your efforts will never be in vain (徒劳). Be brave, and you will shine.” Staring at the warm words, I took a deep breath and told myself that I should fight for my dream bravely, no matter what the result would be.

【答案】24.C 25.A 26.B 27.D
【导语】本文讲述了 Darren Edwards 因意外受伤致残后,并未放弃挑战,先后完成欧洲冰盖滑雪并计划南极探险,还创办公司激励残障人士突破自我、发掘潜能。
【详解】24.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“It was during this trip that he realised he was no longer battling against his limitations. Rather, he was enjoying a very special adventure, one that he was able to do though he was disabled.(正是在这次旅行中,他意识到自己不再与自身的局限作斗争。相反,他享受着一场特别的冒险,即便身有残疾,他也能完成)”可知,Darren 明白身体残疾并不能定义一个人。
25.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“I am not training to be able to go faster, but to make myself ready for an endurance challenge because I need to cover 333 km in temperatures below -20℃ before reaching the South Pole(我训练不是为了滑得更快,而是为耐力挑战做好准备,因为抵达南极前,我需要在零下 20 摄氏度的低温下行进 333 公里)”可知,Darren刻苦训练是为了应对身体极限。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“But I am fairly pleased to have the opportunity to take on the sit-ski exploration, especially because for one year after my accident I did not imagine I would be able to take up such challenges(但我很高兴能有机会参与坐式滑雪探险,尤其是事故发生后的一年里,我从未想过自己能接受这样的挑战)”可推知,Darren 对即将到来的南极之旅态度积极且坚定。
27.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“So we want to inspire individuals with disabilities by offering the same opportunities and impactful explorations to push their limits and discover their potential(因此,我们希望通过提供同样的机会和有意义的探险活动,激励残障人士突破极限、发掘潜能)”可知,Darren创办公司是为残障人士提供改变人生的机会。
C
D.A new way to transport CO2 from ships is found
【答案】28.B 29.A 30.D 31.C
【导语】本文介绍研究人员研发船舶碳捕捉新技术,利用海水和石灰石吸收二氧化碳,并说明优势及面临的现实问题。
28.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The rock then reacts with CO2 in the water to form bicarbonate minerals, which can remain stable in the ocean for millennia.(随后岩石与水中的二氧化碳发生反应,形成碳酸氢盐矿物质,这种物质可以在海洋中稳定存在数千年)”可知,溶解的石灰石通过与二氧化碳发生反应变成碳酸氢盐矿物质。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Adkins says this technique doesn’t need much space and is more flexible than other ways, which require storing captured emissions on board and offloading them at specialised ports.(阿德金斯表示,这项技术占用空间小,比其他方法更灵活,其他方法需要在船上储存捕获的排放物,并在专用港口卸货)”可知,这套系统相比其他方法的优点是节省空间。
30.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Phil Renforth at Heriot-Watt University in the UK says the idea is interesting but could face a few problems. For one, it’s hard to collect all the CO2 from exhaust.(英国赫瑞瓦特大学的菲尔·伦福斯表示,这个想法很有意思,但可能面临一些问题。首先,很难收集废气中全部的二氧化碳)”可知,伦福斯对这套系统持怀疑、不看好的态度。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合第一段“The researchers have now designed a way to capture carbon from ships(研究人员如今研发出一种从船舶上捕获碳的方法)”和第二段中的“The rock then reacts with CO2 in the water to form bicarbonate minerals, which can remain stable in the ocean for millennia.(随后岩石与水中的二氧化碳发生反应,形成碳酸氢盐矿物质,这种物质可以在海洋中稳定存在数千年)”可知,全文围绕一项新型船舶碳捕捉化学技术展开,介绍其工作原理、实操优势,同时提及现存不足,C项“船舶可将二氧化碳排放物储存于水下”能概括文章主旨,适合作标题。

【答案】32.B 33.C 34.D 35.D
【导语】本文介绍Poseidon人工智能防溺水系统,通过摄像头和AI分析识别溺水危险,及时向救生员报警,可挽救生命。
32.词句猜测题。根据第二段“When a swimmer sinks towards the bottom of the pool, the new system sends an alarm signal to a poolside monitoring station and a lifeguard’s pager. (当游泳者下沉至泳池底部时,这套新型系统会向泳池边的monitoring站以及救生员的寻呼机发送警报信号。)”可知,这里指给监控站和救生员发送警报信号,以便施救,所以猜测monitoring在此处意为“监视;查看”,与watching含义相近。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段“To do this reliably, it has to tell the difference between a swimmer and the shadow of someone being cast onto the bottom or side of the pool.(为了可靠运行,该系统必须区分游泳者与投射在泳池底部或池壁上的人影。)”可知,人工智能软件必须能够区分游泳者和影子。
34.细节理解题。根据第五段“If so, it alarms the lifeguard, showing the swimmer’s location on a poolside screen.(一旦确认危险,系统会向救生员发出警报,并在泳池旁的屏幕上显示溺水者的位置。)”可知,该系统通过提醒救生员并标注位置来挽救生命。

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】36.C 37.A 38.F 39.G 40.B
【导语】这是一篇说明文。本文介绍英语阅读选书建议:初学者可读简单童书,进阶者可尝试合适读物,读不完整本可选短篇,建议挑选自己感兴趣的书籍。
36.前文“Reading books can be a great way to pick up new vocabulary and develop your understanding of a language while enjoying your time.( 阅读书籍是积累新词汇、增进对语言理解并享受阅读过程的一种绝佳方式。)”讲读书既能积累词汇、提升语言理解,又能享受时光。C选项“It means reading books can bring you knowledge as well as fun.( 这意味着读书既能给你带来知识,也能带来乐趣。)”总结前文,knowledge对应语言学习,fun对应enjoying your time,自然引出后文“但不知道读什么”的转折。故选C项。
37.前文“Children’s books can be a great place to start with.( 儿童读物是一个很好的起点。)”推荐儿童书,后文出现His books(他的书),说明空处需提到一位男性作者。A选项“For example, Dr Seuss’s books are sure to make you laugh.( 例如,苏斯博士的书一定会让你开怀大笑。)”正好举例,苏斯博士的书以押韵和幽默著称,与后文perfect rhyme和very funny完全对应。故选A项。
38.前文“Starting with something like this means you are more likely to finish the book and want to read more.( 从这样的书开始意味着你更有可能读完这本书,并想要继续阅读。)”讲完初学者的建议,空后提到This book(这本书),说明空处需推荐一本适合更高水平学习者的书。F选项“For more advanced learners, you could try Wonder by R. J. Palacio.(对于进阶学习者,你可以试试 R.J. 帕拉西奥的《奇迹男孩》。)”形成难度递进,后文This book即指代《奇迹男孩》,逻辑通顺。故选F项。
39.前文“If you’re not quite ready to read a full book, why not try Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes?( 如果你还不完全准备好读整本书,为什么不试试罗尔德·达尔的《反叛的童谣》呢?)”推荐了罗尔德・达尔的《反叛的童谣》,空处应介绍这本书的特点。G选项“It contains lots of short stories, based on fairy tales, all written in rhyme.( 它包含很多基于童话改编的短故事,全部用押韵写成。)”中It指代该书,准确描述了《反叛的童谣》的内容和形式。故选G项。
40.前文“Look at the short summary of the book on the back cover and see if it looks like something that you will enjoy. Think about the type that is in your own language and find that type in English.( 查看书的封底简介,看看它看起来是否符合你喜欢的类型。思考你母语中常见的类型,并在英语中找到相应的类型。)”讲了如何找到感兴趣的类型。B选项“All in all, the key to success is choosing the right book for you. (总的来说,成功的关键在于选择适合自己的书籍。)”承接上文内容,作为段落结尾自然有力。故选B项。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

【答案】范文
