M: The first thing I think about is that you have good interpersonal skills and like people.
W: Yeah, I guess so.
M: Both of those jobs take that kind of talent. Which one do you prefer?
W: Well, working at a retirement home is something I’d like.
M: Then you should try for that.
W: How about you?
M: I used to consider myself a typical guy with a background in engineering. But according to my results, I should make use of my artistic skills, but I’m not sure where to begin.

【原文】
W: Now, I want to tell you about a fantastic new exhibition at the Science Museum. It’s called “A Changing World” and it is all about global warming.
You don’t need to sign your name at the entrance because they have applied the facial recognition system. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is hundreds of pairs of Wellington boots.
Everyone needs to put on a pair of these because the whole exhibition area is flooded with water. The idea is to show what will happen if sea levels continue to rise. It really makes you think!
One of the best exhibitions is the one about the Arctic. In this room there is a huge block of ice, which is slowly becoming liquid. There are also a number of photographs, which show really clearly how the sea ice is disappearing year after year.
As you walk around the exhibition, you’ll see that all over the walls there are posters which explain the causes and effects of global warming. The content was written especially for this exhibition by a number of well-known scientists, so you can be sure you are getting the most up-to-date information possible.
At the end of the exhibition there are some computers. You can use these to send emails, either to politicians, telling them what you want them to do, or to a friend. You can let them know what you have learned or give them some advice on what they can do to stop global warming.

Forty years ago, Yin Yuzhen arrived at her new home in a vast desert in northern China. Her new house lay half buried under sand dunes. Strong winds howled, and terrible heat made life extremely difficult. While many people would have fled, Yuzhen chose to stay. “I would rather die planting trees than live buried by the desert,” she said, beginning a lifelong battle against the tough environment.
Yuzhen and her husband worked tirelessly to afford young trees. She slept only a few hours each night, her hands and arms covered in wounds from her hard work. After many trials, she finally found a successful method. She first planted shrubs and grasses to hold the soil. Then, she planted taller trees like poplars and pines to protect the fruit trees inside. Slowly, her efforts paid off. The barren (贫瘠) land transformed into a green oasis. Over four decades, she has turned over 70,000 acres of desert into woodland, becoming a symbol of China’s large-scale tree-planting project.
Yuzhen’s story also inspired an American teacher, Donald Jones. In 2015, he traveled to meet her and joined her team. He learned to plant trees, working hard under difficult conditions. He planted over 2,000 trees and formed a deep bond with Yuzhen, calling her his “sister”. Their friendship showed that environmental protection is a shared mission that connects people across borders.
Yuzhen’s personal effort is part of a much larger picture. China is making significant progress in protecting the environment. In the past 20 years, a quarter of the world’s newly added green areas have come from China. The country has met its 2030 goals for forest growth and solar and wind power capacity years ahead of schedule. These achievements show China’s leading role and consistent commitment to a sustainable future.
The message from Yuzhen’s story is profound: whether it is planting trees or developing clean energy, every effort shares the same vision. Green development is not just China’s choice, but its contribution to the entire planet. Challenges like sandstorms know no borders. By working together, humanity can create not only oases in the desert but also a greener, cleaner world for all.
24.Why did Yin Yuzhen stay in the desert?
A.Her husband’s support.
B.Her fight against desertification.
C.Hope to plant trees for a living.
D.Attraction of living in sand.
25.Which of the following best describes Yin Yuzhen’s tree-planting method?
A.Relying on green oases for irrigation water.
B.Planting tall trees first to block strong winds.
C.Focusing on fruit trees to improve economic benefits.
D.Using a layered approach to stabilize and green the land.
26.Why is Donald Jones mentioned in the passage?
A.To show Yin’s global influence.
B.To prove cross-border friendship.
C.To explain international cooperation.
D.To introduce US tree-planting skills.
27.What is the best title of the text?
A.Green Mission Across Borders B.A 40-Year Desert Battle
C.China’s Green Hope for the World D.The Seed of a Green Life
【答案】24.B 25.D 26.A 27.C
【导语】文章主要讲述了殷玉珍40年坚守沙漠植树治沙,助力中国环保的感人故事。
【详解】24.细节理解题。根据第一段中“Her new house lay half buried under sand dunes. Strong winds howled, and terrible heat made life extremely difficult. While many people would have fled, Yuzhen chose to stay. “I would rather die planting trees than live buried by the desert,” she said, beginning a lifelong battle against the tough environment.(她的新房半截都被沙丘掩埋,狂风呼啸,酷热难耐,日子过得异常艰难。换作旁人大多早已逃离,可殷玉珍选择留了下来。她说:“宁可种树累死,也不愿被黄沙埋掉。” 自此,她开启了与恶劣环境相伴一生的抗争之路。)”可知,殷玉珍留在沙漠是为了与荒漠化作斗争。
25.细节理解题。根据第二段中“She first planted shrubs and grasses to hold the soil. Then, she planted taller trees like poplars and pines to protect the fruit trees inside.(她先种植灌木和草来固土,然后种植杨树、松树等较高的树木来保护里面的果树。)”可知,她采用了分层种植的方法:先种灌木草固土,再种高树保护果树,即用分层的方法来固土绿化。
26.推理判断题。根据第三段“Yuzhen’s story also inspired an American teacher, Donald Jones. In 2015, he traveled to meet her and joined her team. He learned to plant trees, working hard under difficult conditions. He planted over 2,000 trees and formed a deep bond with Yuzhen, calling her his “sister”. Their friendship showed that environmental protection is a shared mission that connects people across borders.(殷玉珍的事迹还打动了美国教师唐纳德・琼斯。2015年,他专程前来拜访并加入治沙种树队伍。他学着种树,在艰苦的环境里埋头劳作,累计栽种两千多棵树木,还与殷玉珍结下深厚情谊,尊称她为“姐姐”。二人的情谊也印证了:保护环境是无国界的共同使命。)”可知,提到Donald Jones是为了说明殷玉珍的故事影响到了国外,展示她的全球影响力。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据最后一段中“Green development is not just China's choice, but its contribution to the entire planet.(绿色发展不仅是中国的选择,更是中国对整个地球的贡献。)”可知,文章从殷玉珍个人故事上升到中国对全球环保的贡献,“中国给世界的绿色希望”最能概括全文主旨,适合作标题。

Before tools like Google Translate and AI became widely used, communicating with someone who spoke a different language was pretty challenging. But now, thanks to these tech advancements, it’s a lot easier to connect with people from different cultures. These tools are great for those with able-bodied hearing abilities, but people who are deaf or hard of hearing often can’t benefit as much.
In an effort to bridge the communication gap between sign language users and non-users, two University of Washington undergraduates designed gloves called SignAloud. Their creative invention earned them a $10,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize in 2017, and the idea is still ahead of its time today.
Navid Azodi and Thomas Pryor met during their freshman year where they discovered their interest in problem solving. At the time, they were studying aeronautics and astronautics (航空航天) engineering.
They developed the SignAloud gloves to recognize various hand gestures (姿势) used in American Sign Language (ASL) and translate them into spoken words and phrases in real time. Each glove uses sensors (传感器) to track hand positions and movements, sending the data wirelessly via Bluetooth to a computer. The computer studies the hand movements using simple maths, like a basic brain. When it knows a gesture, it speaks the matching word or phrase through a speaker.
“Many of the sign language translation devices (设备) already out there are not practical for everyday use. Some use video input, while others have sensors that cover the user’s entire arm or body,” said Pryor. “Our gloves are lightweight, and worn on the hands, but comfortable enough to use as an everyday device, similar to hearing aids.”
Azodi and Pryor had interest in building a device that would have real-world influence. “Our purpose for developing these gloves was to provide an easy-to-use bridge between native speakers of American Sign Language and the rest of the world,” Azodi explains. “The idea came out of our shared interest in invention and problem solving at first. But coupling it with our belief that communication is an important human right, we set out to make it easier to use for a larger audience.”
28.What is the function of the first paragraph?
A.To praise tech advancements.
B.To introduce the topic.
C.To explain how to use AI tools.
D.To set off a discussion.

A.To win the Lemelson-MIT Student Prize.
B.To practise their problem-solving skills.
C.To make money from selling the gloves.
D.To help sign language users communicate easily.
30.What is the main feature of SignAloud gloves?
A.They are worn on the entire arm.
B.They can turn hand gestures into text or speech.
C.They use video input to track body movements.
D.They can translate spoken words into sign language.
31.Which of the following can best describe SignAloud gloves?
A.Heavy and large. B.Handy and expensive.
C.Lightweight and comfortable. D.Warm and convenient.

Health enthusiasts are no strangers to fitness apps that help them count calories, track steps, monitor heart rate, and more. While their main aim is to encourage people to stay fit by setting targets for workout time, sleep duration, and healthy eating, researchers warn that many of these apps aren’t equipped with “evidence-based or theory-based” approaches to support these healthy changes and can end up setting goals that are “difficult to achieve.”
Researchers at University College London (UCL) found that fitness apps can make people feel demotivated to exercise. Paulina Bondaronek of UCL said, “Fitness apps remain some of the most profitable and widely downloaded health tools globally. While they can benefit health, there’s been far less attention to their potential downsides. When health is reduced to calorie counts and step goals, it can leave people feeling ashamed and disconnected from what truly drives lasting wellbeing.”
In a study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology, the researchers analyzed 58,881 X posts using artificial intelligence, investigating the negative impact of the five most profitable commercial fitness apps in March 2022, such as MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter, Strava, Weight Watchers, Workouts by Muscle Booster, and Fitness Coach & Diet: FitCoach.
Some of the negative consequences included stress from quantifying diet and physical activity and the setting of goals that were at times unfeasible and overly simplified by algorithms (算法). Five main themes emerged, showing that calorie tracking, strict goals, and constant errors often led to depression and guilt. Some users felt depressed and stressed by these apps and reported feelings of shame and disappointment, leading them to quit the apps or give up healthy behaviors.
It was also noted that algorithms do not fully recognize individual differences or understand real-life complexities. Problems like information not matching across devices, inaccurate calorie counts, or inconsistent data led to stress, anxiety and lack of motivation.
Several users, however, also noted that health was a personal responsibility and that the apps couldn’t be held responsible for eating disorders. Rather, they can be used in a healthy way.
The researchers concluded: “The current study highlights the need for better evaluation of commercial fitness apps, as well as more user-centred and psychologically informed app design that prioritizes well-being and inner motivation over rigid, quantitative (量化的) goals — and, indeed, profit.”
32.What is Paulina Bondaronek’s attitude towards the current fitness apps?
A.Satisfied. B.Dismissive. C.Neutral. D.Critical.
33.What does the underlined word “unfeasible” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Unrealistic. B.Unnecessary. C.Unchangeable. D.Unavoidable.
34.Which of the following is a negative impact of fitness apps mentioned in the text?
A.They force users to change their eating habits.
B.They lead to users’ depression and loss of motivation.
C.They cannot help users track their daily steps accurately.
D.They make users pay much attention to their appearance.
35.What is the researchers’ suggestion regarding fitness app design?
A.Simplify fitness goals. B.Value health over making money.
C.Update algorithms to match devices. D.Focus on users’ outer performance.
【答案】32.D 33.A 34.B 35.B
根据第二段中“Paulina Bondaronek of UCL said, “Fitness apps remain some of the most profitable and widely downloaded health tools globally. While they can benefit health, there’s been far less attention to their potential downsides. When health is reduced to calorie counts and step goals, it can leave people feeling ashamed and disconnected from what truly drives lasting wellbeing.”(UCL 的保罗娜·邦达罗内克说:“健身应用程序是全球范围内最赚钱且下载量最大的健康工具之一。虽然它们对健康有益,但对其潜在的负面影响却关注甚少。当健康被简化为卡路里计数和步数目标时,这会让人们感到羞愧,并与真正推动持久健康的因素脱节。”)”可推知,保罗娜·邦达罗内克对当前的健身应用程序持批评的态度。
33.词句猜测题。根据划线单词句中“Some of the negative consequences included stress from quantifying diet and physical activity...(其中一些负面影响包括:量化饮食和身体活动所带来的压力……)”以及下文“Five main themes emerged, showing that calorie tracking, strict goals, and constant errors often led to depression and guilt.( 五个主要主题浮现出来,表明卡路里追踪、严格的目标以及频繁的错误常常导致抑郁和内疚感)”可知,此处指的是算法设定的有时不切实际且过于简化的目标。故可猜测划线单词unfeasible为“不切实际的”意思,和A选项Unrealistic“不切实际的”意思相近。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Five main themes emerged, showing that calorie tracking, strict goals, and constant errors often led to depression and guilt.( 五个主要主题浮现出来,表明卡路里追踪、严格的目标以及频繁的错误常常导致抑郁和内疚感)”以及第五段中“Problems like information not matching across devices, inaccurate calorie counts, or inconsistent data led to stress, anxiety and lack of motivation.( 诸如设备间的信息不匹配、卡路里计数不准确或数据不一致等问题导致了压力、焦虑和缺乏动力)”可知,文中提到的健身应用程序所带来的负面影响是它们导致用户产生抑郁情绪并失去动力。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The researchers concluded: “The current study highlights the need for better evaluation of commercial fitness apps, as well as more user-centred and psychologically informed app design that prioritizes well-being and inner motivation over rigid, quantitative (量化的) goals — and, indeed, profit.”(研究人员得出结论:“本次研究强调了对商业健身应用程序进行更全面评估的必要性,同时还需要更具用户导向性和基于心理学原则的应用程序设计,这种设计应当把身心健康和内在动力置于严格的量化目标,甚至利润之上。”)”可推知,对于健身应用程序的设计,研究人员提出了重视健康而非盈利。

Discipline and the Road to Maturity
Most do not see that life is difficult. 36 But once we truly see this truth, we go beyond it — then life is no longer difficult. Discipline is what we need.
Delaying of satisfaction is the first tool of discipline. It requires us to give up immediate pleasure for greater satisfaction in the long run. 37 Yet many adults never fully learn this simple lesson. They refuse to face life’s necessary hardships to achieve goals and live fulfilling lives.
The second tool is acceptance of responsibility. This means that we are responsible for our own lives, instead of blaming others and making excuses. 38 Some feel responsible for everything that goes wrong in the world. In fact, they are avoiding the pain of helplessness. Others refuse to take responsibility for anything, in an attempt to avoid feeling guilty and ashamed.
39 This calls on us to see the world as it is. We should not view it as we wish or fear it to be. We must accept the truth even when painful or inconvenient, and change our beliefs and behaviors that contradict it. Our view of reality is like a map that guides us through life’s journey. If it is false and inaccurate, we will be lost.
The fourth tool of discipline is balancing. We need to view things from multiple perspectives. 40 Balancing requires us to be flexible and adaptable. We should compromise when needed, forgive, let go of what no longer helps, and embrace change. In short, balancing requires us to be mature. And maturity is the goal of all spiritual growth.
A.Everyone is convinced of the truth.
B.Children also desire instant enjoyment.
C.Then comes the tool of dedication to truth.
D.Instead they often complain about their burdens.
E.Yet many people fall into two opposite extremes.
F.Only then can we make decisions in our best interests overall.
G.A little boy learns it by eating his vegetables first to earn a cookie.

Last semester, our science teacher gave each of us some very special flower seeds. She told us it was known for being difficult to grow and required plenty of time, care, and patience before it would bloom. Some seeds might sprout quickly, she explained, while others would take much longer time, and it depended on many factors. I left the classroom that day with my heart full of excitement and determination: I would grow the most beautiful flowers in the whole class.
Once home, I carefully chose the richest soil and the cleanest pot. I placed the pot beside a window where golden light poured in every morning. Each day, I gently watered the seeds, checked the soil’s moisture with my fingertip, and even whispered soft words of encouragement to it. I imagined tiny roots stretching underground and a green shoot pushing upward any moment.
But weeks passed, and nothing happened. The soil remained bare and silent. Meanwhile, most of my classmates’ seeds had already sprouted into lively young plants. I began to feel upset and discouraged. I stared at the dull brown earth, wondering if my seeds were dead and if all my efforts had been a waste. Doubt crept into my mind, and I even thought about throwing the pot away.
My grandmother noticed my mood. She sat beside me, gently touched the pot, and said, “Everything in nature has its own time. Don’t be anxious. Keep watering it and waiting patiently. When the time is right, it will bloom in its own way.”
Her calm words soothed my restless heart. I decided not to give up. I continued to care for the seeds, but now without hurry or worry. I simply did what had to be done — watering, checking, waiting-and trusted that something invisible was happening beneath the surface.

【答案】One possible version:
One Saturday morning, I got up and walked to the window as usual. To my great surprise, a tiny green shoot had emerged from the soil. It was so delicate and weak that I nearly overlooked it. A surge of joy and excitement flooded through me instantly. It dawned on me that all my consistent efforts and quiet waiting had finally paid off. From that day on, I tended it with extra care, watching its steady growth each morning.
Months later, the plant blossomed with brilliant flowers. It turned out to be the most striking flower in our class. Gazing at its beauty, I gained a profound insight into life. Growth is never a hasty process; every living thing has its unique rhythm to bloom. This unforgettable experience taught me that patience and perseverance are the keys to overcoming difficulties and becoming a better version of myself.

And IT is all about global warming. You don't need to sign your name at the entrance because they have applied the facial recognition system. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is hundreds of pairs of wellington boots. Everyone needs to put on a pair of these because the whole exhibition area is flooded with water. The idea is to show what will happen if c levels continue to rise. IT really makes you think one of the best exhibitions is the one about the arctic. In this room, there is a huge block of eyes, which is slowly becoming liquid. There are also a number of photographs which show really clearly how the c ice is disappearing year after year as you walk around the exhibition, you'll see that all over the walls there are posters which explain the courses and the effects of global warming. The content was written especially for this exhibition by a number of well known scientists. So you can be sure you are getting the most up to date information possible at the end of the exhibition. There are some computers. You can use these to send emails, either to politicians telling them what you want them to do, or to a friend. You can let them know what you have learned or give them some advice on what they can do to stop global warning. Now I want to tell you about a fantastic new exhibition at the science museum. 66.Dear fellow students,
Currently, our precious heritage is facing severe threats from both natural forces and human activities. Therefore, it is of great urgency to protect it for the benefit of all humanity.
Heritage is not only a symbol of our history but also a bridge connecting the past and the future. To preserve it, we should take immediate action. First, we can organize campaigns to raise public awareness of heritage protection. Second, when visiting historical sites, we must behave properly and avoid causing any damage.
Let’s join hands to protect our heritage before it’s too late!

29.Why did Azodi and Pryor develop SignAloud gloves?

29.Why did Azodi and Pryor develop SignAloud gloves?
