B 25-26学年度第二学期第二次阶段性考试·英语 第3页共12页 For more than 30 years,Fang Beisong,an expert at repairing old objects at Jingzhou Museum, has worked to make ancient words on bamboo and wooden pieces readable again. These pieces are called jiandu. One special moment came in 2015.While cleaning a bamboo piece from the Warring States Period,he found the words for "hold your hand and grow old with you",a line from The Book of Songs."I felt the light and warmth of our history and culture,"Fang recalled. After finishing his studies in chemistry in 1988,Fang began working at the museum, using science for his love of history. He focuses on jiandu-things people wrote on before paper was used. In 2002,he faced a huge task-over 92,000 pieces from the Qin Dynasty were found in Hunan. He stayed in Changsha for nine years, working 12 hours a day to sort out and protect them. Preserving jiandu is extremely difficult. They are made of natural materials and break down easily.Once unearthed, they quickly turn black in the air, making the writing unreadable.Fang's repair work involves over 20 steps, with decoloring and dewatering being the most important. Decoloring brings back the original (color and keeps the words clear, while dewatering helps them leave the wet condition and stay steady for keeping. After years of trying,he found a good two-step way and won a national technology prize in 2019. Each case is different. In 2020,his team worked on Han Dynasty bamboo pieces from a robbed tomb in Dingzhou. The pieces broke easily. They tried over 70 times to keep them together.Even though the writing was almost impossible to see,a special camera using infrared light showed the words clearly. So far,Fang and his team have fixed over 100,000 pieces."For things like these, once they are dug up,there's only a short time to save them.I cannot stop-the faster I work, the more of our history I can save,"said Fang 24.How did Fang feel when he saw the line from The Book of Songs? B.Time and tide wait for no man. C.Actions speak louder than words. D.Where there's a will, there's a way. Q Have you ever seen an animal video online that made you stop and wonder?Videos showing a wolf taking care of a rabbit,or a lion walking calmly through a small town are now spreading widely. This is possible because of AI technology. However, scientists warn such popular videos may hurt real wildlife protection and spread wrong ideas about nature. A study in Conservation Biology points out that Al-generated animal videos create an untrue world, leading to wrong ideas about animal behavior and widening the gap between people and nature.Co-author Jose Guerrero-Casado stresses the danger of false information. For example, videos showing birds killing "bad"snakes might make people less willing to protect snakes, and create false ideas about animals that are already in danger. The effect on children is especially worrying. These videos can give them wrong ideas about how people and animals really get along. When children discover that real-world animals do not act as they do in these made-up videos,it can have the opposite result, finally making them feel less connected to nature. This risk grows as young people increasingly turn to social media for information. So,how can one recognize these videos?Experts suggest looking for a few signs:unnatural animal movements that appear too smooth or seem impossible in real life;light and shadows that do not look quite right;and small details like fur or feathers that appear unclear or repeat in an unusual way. To deal with these risks, the research team suggests putting more effort into education, like teaching media literacy (in schools. As another co-author Francisco Sanchez says, the goal is to make sure "children learn early that there are no lions living here."While they think this is important, the researchers also say that school lessons alone cannot stop the spread of false information made by AI.This leads to an important question about who else in society needs to help 25-26学年度第二学期第二次阶段性考试·英语 第5页共12页 solve this problem,if school education is not enough. 28.How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph? A.By giving examples. B.By making a comparison. C.By quoting an expert. D.By sharing an experience. 29.What can be inferred about AI-generated animal videos? A.They make children love animals less. B.They mainly focus on species in danger. C.They may make animals seem dangerous. D.They create a false understanding of nature. 30.According to paragraph 4,which is most probably an AI-generated video? A.A parrot with clear feathers B.A cat with natural shadows. C.A dog with unusual marks. D.A frog with extremely smooth jumps. 31.What will the author most probably discuss next? A.The media literacy lessons. B.The duties of social medial C.The popularity of such videos. D.The threats to wildlife protection. D When preparing for a test, most students assume it's best to simply study the material and try to memorize as much of it as possible. Many tests seemingly reward rote(死记硬背)memorization. But what if students trained by testing themselves instead?Usually, studying is considered a safer bet;why risk producing wrong answers when you can just memorize the right one?Yet it turns out making errors early on can be more helpful for remembering information over time Cognitive psychologists Henry Roddy Roediger and Jeff Karpicke conducted a study where they had hundreds of students memorize passages from a test-preparation book for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).One group memorized these passages by reading them repeatedly, while another group read the passages several times and then completed three tests. The results were surprising:the students who repeatedly studied the material initially performed better, but when they were tested again a week later, the students who tested themselves recalled over 60% of what they had learned, compared to only 40%for the group who repeatedly studied. The testing effect has since been confurmed in many studies under a range of conditions. Its 25-26学年度第二学期第二次阶段性考试·英语 第6页共12页 value remains undoubted, but scientists are still debating why it has such a powerful effect on memory. The simplest explanation is that testing exposes our weaknesses. When we test our memories,we expose the weaknesses of existing neuronal(t神经元的)connections in a way that ultimately strengthens what's useful and removes what's not, making the information we attempt to memorize more lasting and easier to recall. To maximize the benefits of the testing effect,it's important to retum to the same information in shorter sessions over several days instead of cramming (everything into a single night of intense studying. This allows your brain to consolidate the information and create stronger memories. In conclusion, testing is not just a tool for assessing your knowledge but also a powerful learning tool.By embracing errors and actively testing yourself, you can improve your learning and memory. So,instead of avoiding mistakes, embrace them as opportunities for growth and mastery. 32.What do we know about Henry and Jeff's study? A.Self-testing works only in tasks of memorizing things. B.Those who repeatedly studied performed better later C.Rote memorization doesn't work well in the long run. D.The study focused mainly on how to prepare for TOFEL. 33.What happens to the brain when people test their memories? A.Additional neuronal connections in the brain are created. B.The brain processes new information at a higher speed. C.The weak connections between neurons are removed. D.Weak but useful neuronal connections become stronger. 34.What is an effective way to study according to paragraph 4? A.Avoiding making the same mistakes in tests. B.Studying everything intensely on a single night C.Reviewing in shorter sessions over several days. D.Focusing on what is most likely to be on the test. 35.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Cramming for Exams:A Safer Bet for Success 25-26学年度第二学期第二次阶段性考试·英语 第7页共12页 B.The Testing Effect:Why Practice Makes Perfect C.The Power of Testing:An Effective Approach to Learning D.The Secret of Learning:How Brains Process Information 第二节七选五(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 As an enthusiastic reader,I've always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book.36They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us.This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it's why I value my personal library. It's a collection that reflects my journey through the world of words. My library is not vast, but each book is carefully chosen.I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging from classic literature to contemporary fiction.37 Each type offers a different perspective(),a new way of looking at life. While some books challenge my thinking, others provide comfort. It's important to have a balance.A well-organized library is like a well-balanced diet for the mind. Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell.Austen's sharp observations on society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming. Orwell,on the other hand, offers a stark view of the world.38 Both authors, though different in style, have taught me invaluable lessons about humanity. 39 Biographies (and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary individuals. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms.Reading about the struggles and successes of others can be incredibly inspiring. It's a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind. My library is a reflection of who I am.It's a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and guides in times of uncertainty.40 A.I also enjoy non-fiction. Panic (set in as he remembered the undelivered orders-especially a cup of hot milk tea for Ms.White,a regular customer. His hand trembled as he pressed the voice button, his words laced with sorrow and anxiety as he apologized repeatedly, offering to pay for the undelivered drink. To his great surprise,Ms.White did not respond with anger or complaint, but with gentle kindness.Ms. White told him not to wony and to take his time finding his bike. Her understanding words calmed him but also deepened his sense of responsibility."She is so kind.I cannot let her down,"he thought. For nearly two hours,he searched every nearby street, but there was still no sign of his bike.As night grew darker and the wind bit harder,Jack clenched his fists and made a firm decision. He took out his poor savings, bought a bag of fresh apples and a new cup of hot milk tea, then set off on foot to Ms.White's apartment, several kilometers away. The wind bit into his jacket, and his old shoes grew heavy with mud,but the thought of keeping his promise and maintaining his integrity kept him moving forward through the dimly lit urban landscape. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右: 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1:Finally,breathless,Jack reached Ms.White's doorstep and rang the bell.
