Freed from the small stuff
Right from moving in, convenience is built into the process, with fully-furnished, high-quality apartments available for residents and access to all facilities of Homestead and Wi-Fi included in monthly rental cost.

The sport I have stuck with and continue to enjoy is table tennis, which has provided me with valuable life lessons.
Table tennis is probably one of the most interesting sports around the world — a game where players are mostly on their own. No one can help them and only their own skills and mindset can help them win the game. Because it is such a fast sport in a small environment, every wrong movement results in an error. So your mind has to be very clear.
I started playing table tennis when I was 9 years old, surrounded by many players of my age. About three years later, I surpassed some of these players who were better than me at first but quit the sport. Then, at the age of 15, I made the jump to the seniors and rose to the top among players in my region. Even now, I am still one of the best players in my region, surpassing players who received more support in table tennis than I did. And this is how it works in life as well. Continuous effort, courage, and persistence (坚持) lead to success, differentiating those with great success from those who stay average.
My biggest progress was made when I jumped to the seniors. Often challenged by stronger opponents (对手), I got used to being out of my comfort zone. Such experiences improved my skills much faster. At that time, my environment, which included stronger training partners, pushed me to grow. This is also true of making progress in other areas of your life. Your surroundings, and the people around you, shape you continuously. So, choose them wisely.
56.According to Paragraph 2, a table tennis player needs to ________.
A.slow down to avoid making mistakes
B.expect support from team members
C.rely heavily on physical strength
D.keep a high level of mental focus
57.What enabled the author to surpass those who were once better than him?
A.He showed much more talent in the sport.
B.He got more support from his environment.
C.He continued to play when others gave up.
D.He started playing at a much younger age.
58.What does the author mean by saying “I got used to being out of my comfort zone” in Paragraph 4?
A.He started playing the sport in a new city.
B.He had to adapt to playing against much stronger rivals.
C.He began to feel physically uncomfortable during training.
D.He felt tired of his familiar training environment.
59.What advice does the author give for making progress in life?
A.Choose your environment and companions wisely.
B.Stick to a familiar and comfortable training routine.
C.Compete mostly with people of your own age.
D.Rely entirely on your own skills and mindset.
60.What is the best title for the text?
A.What Table Tennis Has Taught Me
B.My Journey to Becoming a Champion
C.How to Survive in Competitions
D.The Secrets to Winning a Match

Many of the drugs we take aren’t actually digested — they pass through our bodies, and down through the sewer (下水道) pipes. Traces of those drugs end up in the bodies of fish and other wildlife. Nobody’s sure what effect they have.
Now, a paper being published in Science magazine finds that drugs to treat anxiety can affect the behavior of fish.
This particular story starts with some fish that live in a creek just downstream from a sewage treatment plant in southern Sweden. Scientists collected the perch (鲈鱼) in that area and discovered that they had accumulated low levels of anxiety drugs in their bodies.
Environmental scientist Jonatan Klaminder led a couple of his workmate at Umea University in Sweden to tackle this question in the lab.
In the lab, they put some perch in a fish tank to see how they behaved under normal circumstances. Then they added some of a anxiety drug called oxazepam into the tank. The concentrations (浓度) of the drug were the same to those found in the river.
“They became more unsociable and more active, and they were actually more effective in eating,” Klaminder says. “This drug actually removes some of the fear, the sense of fear, from these fishes. So instead of being afraid they focus on feeding.”
Staying close to others is a well-known defense system to avoid natural enemies. In the wild, it is highly dangerous for a small fish to move away from the fish group. “The most likely outcome will be that a bigger fish will eat it,” he says. Over time, the whole food chain will be changed.
The problem doesn’t present an obvious threat to people who might drink water from streams or eat the fish that live in them. The presence of drugs in surface waters — or even in fish and shellfish — is much lower than the levels that you might need to be concerned about, says Bryan Brooks of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, USA.
But he warns that isn’t necessarily the case in the developing world. “Some studies show, for example, some rivers in India have the highest concentrations of drugs in the environment,” he says. “So the developing world really deserves some additional attention.”
61.The author wrote the text in order to ________.
A.solve a problem B.give some advice
C.tell an interesting story D.show the results of some research
62.Why did the researchers add oxazepam into the fish container?
A.To treat a serious fish disease.
B.To develop a new anxiety drug.

D.To copy wild perch’s living conditions.
63.In the experiment, which is one of the perch’s changes in behavior?
A.They ate much less food.
B.They spent more time alone.
C.They helped each other when feeding.
D.They worried more about their enemies.
64.According to the research, the anxiety drugs in rivers ________.
A.reduce the number of wild perch
B.make large fish calm down easily
C.have deadly effect on small perch
D.help wild fish become much healthier
65.In the opinion of Bryan Brooks, ________.
A.drugs in rivers may be a threat to developing countries
B.it is quite safe to drink water with anxiety drugs in India
C.Americans should be more careful about drugs in rivers
D.in the USA fish with drugs in their bodies cannot be eaten

Mom was right! If you say thank you, for even the smallest gift or slightest show of kindness, you’ll feel happy.
Gratitude (感激), says Robert A.Emmons, a professor of psychology at the University of California, is an important element of happiness. In his recent book, Thanks!, Emmons uses the first major study on gratitude to prove mom’s point. In acknowledging and developing this much-ignored expression of thankfulness, he explains how people have benefited — even improved their health.
As one of the leading scholars of the positive psychology movement, he admits gratitude may be difficult to express. He advises you to begin by admitting that life is good and full of events and elements that make daily existence a wonder. Second, recognize that the source of life’s goodness is more than just you. That source may be your mom, a friend, partner, child, colleague at work or play, or any combination of these.
Gratitude is always other-directed, notes Emmons. You can be pleased or angry with yourself and feel guilty about doing something wrong, but you can never be grateful to or for yourself.
Expressing gratitude shouldn’t be a reaction; it should be state of mind. To feel grateful when life is a breeze and you have more than you need is easy. To feel grateful in time of crisis — anger, hatred and bitterness — is easier. Also, too many people are aware of life’s blessings only after these are lost. The voices expressing gratitude from his studies of individuals are many.
It’s crisis and chaos — danger, disease, disability and death — that bring many individuals to realize just how dependent they are on others. Yet it’s the way each of us begins life and ends it. It’s too bad that so many people waste those decades in between laboring under the illusion (幻觉) that they are self-sufficient (自给自足的), says Emmons.
To enable and embrace gratitude, Emmons encourages the readers of Thanks! to keep a gratitude diary. He even provides easy-to-follow directions on how to practice and develop gratitude.
I’m not a reader or advocate of self-help books, but I am thankful for the reference I found in a newspaper article to the research Emmons was conducting on gratitude involving organ donors and recipients (接受者). The chance discovery led me to this book.
Mom implied that kindness seems to find its way back to the giver because life really is all about giving, receiving and repaying. So, I’ll pay attention to her professional advice and say: Thank you, Professor Emmons.
66.What does the text mainly discuss?
A.There are many ways of being thankful.
B.Gratitude is important to happiness.
C.Mom is great for her being thankful.
D.Being thankful will keep you fit.
67.The author mentions Robert Emmons’ book Thanks! in order to prove that ______.
A.Professor Emmons supports mom’s study on psychology.
B.mom is as great a psychologist as Professor Emmons
C.Professor Emmons is a famous psychologist
D.mom is right about her viewpoint on gratitude
68.It will be easier for you to feel grateful when ______.
A.you live a comfortable life B.you receive gifts on your birthday
C.you get help during your hard times D.you are congratulated on your success
69.What is the opinion of Professor Emmons?
A.It is enough to thank others orally.
B.Whether you are thankful is always up to you.
C.Remember to be thankful anytime and anywhere
D.It is easier to be thankful for yourself than for others
70.According to Emmons, people can express gratitude by _______.
A.keeping a gratitude diary B.reading self-help books
C.feeling self-sufficient D.remaining dependent on others
第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容完成下列各题。
From Jan 16 to 23, a group of high school students worked with a youth media platform to create a short English play called The Taste of Tariffs (关税). Through the project, they not only explored a global issue, but also learned an important lesson about teamwork.
The idea came from a newspaper article about tariffs. The students found the topic fresh and meaningful, and during a study trip they continued discussing it on a high-speed train. Their excitement was so great that they even held auditions in the aisle. By the time they arrived, the team had already been formed.
However, as rehearsals began, conflict soon arose (发生). Two students, who were responsible for writing the script (剧本), disagreed strongly about how the story should be told. One wanted the play to focus on facts and logic so that it would sound serious and convincing. The other believed that it should include more emotion and dramatic scenes to attract the audience. Neither would give in. Their argument became so heated that rehearsal had to stop, and the rest of the team sat in silence.
The disagreement affected everyone. Some students began to worry that the play would fail. Others grew impatient because time was tight. Seeing the tension, the team leader suggested that they stop arguing and listen to each other’s ideas one by one. After a long discussion, they finally realised that a good play needed both clear ideas and strong storytelling. So they rewrote part of the script together, keeping the important facts while adding more vivid dialogue and action.
Another problem arose on the filming day. Two actors were found unsuitable for their original roles. One of them felt unhappy when asked to change parts because he had practised for days. But after the others explained the situation, he accepted the decision for the good of the team. Everyone then worked quickly to adjust the lines and filming plan.
In the end, the play was completed successfully. A teacher who watched the process said she was most impressed not by the final performance, but by the way the students dealt with conflict. For them, the project proved that teamwork does not mean avoiding disagreement. It means staying calm, listening carefully, and moving forward together.
71.What inspired the students to create the play? (no more than 5 words)
72.What does the underlined word in Paragraph 3 mean? (1 word)
73.How did the disagreement affect the team’s work? (no more than 10 words)
74.How did the team deal with the disagreement over the script? (no more than 10 words)
75.What is your opinion on teamwork? Please explain your idea with an example. (no more than 20 words)

【原文】One kind of vacation that many Americans enjoy is camping. Each summer millions of Americans drive to the countryside where they find places to camp. The national parks, many of which are in the mountains, are favorite camping places. Campers enjoy the fresh air, the lakes and the forests which they find in these parks. Campers walk, swim and fish, they can also find many kinds of animals and plants in the parks.
Mostly they enjoy a change from their busy lives in the city. Some campers have trailers which they drive or pull behind their cars to their camp sites. Trailers are like houses on wheels. They have many conveniences which people have in their homes, such as electricity and hot water. But most campers don't have trailers. They camp in tents which they set up in their camp sites. Campers in tents don't have the conveniences that campers in trailers have. Tent campers enjoy a very simple life.

【答案】66.B 67.D 68.C 69.C 70.A

【答案】71.A newspaper article about tariffs. 72.Believable. / Persuasive. /Reasonable. 73.It stopped the rehearsal and created pressure. / It stopped rehearsal and made others worried or impatient. 74.By listening and rewriting the script together. /By discussing it and rewriting the script together. /They listened to each other and rewrote the script. /They discussed it and revised the script together. 75.Open.
根据第三段“One wanted the play to focus on facts and logic so that it would sound serious and convincing.(一个人希望这部剧专注于事实和逻辑,这样它听起来会严肃且convincing )”可知,and连接两个并列的描述性词汇,由“focus on facts and logic(专注于事实和逻辑)”可推知,convincing应表示能让人信服的意思,即“可信的;有说服力的;合理的”。
73.考查细节理解。根据第三段“Their argument became so heated that rehearsal had to stop, and the rest of the team sat in silence.(他们的争论变得如此激烈,以至于排练不得不停止,团队的其他人都静静地坐着)”以及第四段“Some students began to worry that the play would fail. Others grew impatient because time was tight.(一些学生开始担心这部剧会失败。另一些学生因为时间紧迫而变得不耐烦)”可知,分歧导致排练停止,还让团队成员产生担忧和不耐烦的情绪,给团队工作带来压力。
74.考查细节理解。根据第四段“Seeing the tension, the team leader suggested that they stop arguing and listen to each other’s ideas one by one. After a long discussion, they finally realised that a good play needed both clear ideas and strong storytelling. So they rewrote part of the script together(察觉到这种紧张气氛,团队领导建议他们停止争论,一个一个地倾听彼此的想法。经过长时间的讨论,他们最终意识到一部好的戏剧既需要清晰的思路,也需要精彩的叙事。所以他们一起重写了部分剧本)”可知,团队通过倾听彼此想法、共同讨论,然后一起重写部分剧本的方式来处理关于剧本的分歧。
75.开放性试题。答案不唯一。比如“Teamwork is about sharing responsibilities, like in group assignments where everyone does their part.(团队合作就是分担责任,就像在小组作业中每个人都尽自己的一份力)”。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 The aim of this report is to show the results of a survey on students’ opinions and usage of shared bikes in our school.
According to the survey, 70% of those asked gave a positive answer. As for the reasons, as high as 96% of them choose to use shared bikes for their convenience. The majority think riding shared bikes is cheap. Surprisingly, only around 31% consider riding as good exercise. Sadly, only a minority of the users, exactly 19%, turn to shared bikes as a way to reduce pollution.
By contrast, the other 30% said “No” to shared bikes. 70% of them refuse to use shared bikes for safety concern while the other 30% think it is uncomfortable to ride bikes because it may be too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
In my opinion, shared bikes are put there to be used. They can help us keep healthy and make the environment better as long as we use them properly and carefully.
【导语】要求考生根据图表中的调查结果,写一则有关共享单车的调查报告。

C

64.According to the research, the anxiety drugs in rivers ________.
A.reduce the number of wild perch
B.make large fish calm down easily
C.have deadly effect on small perch
D.help wild fish become much healthier
65.In the opinion of Bryan Brooks, ________.
A.drugs in rivers may be a threat to developing countries
B.it is quite safe to drink water with anxiety drugs in India
