Dear Li Hua,
I’m glad you shared your feelings with me. Many Grade Nine students feel stressed like you, so don’t worry, you’re not alone. As the saying goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Let’s take action with small things.
First, your health is the most 1 thing. 2 enough sleep and rest, your brain can’t work well. Try to sleep early. It’s a 3 fact that sleep helps you learn better. Even if your homework isn’t 4 done, it’s better to get some sleep and finish it the next morning.

Boys and girls, before we start, there are a few things you need to keep in mind: First, safety first—don’t pour water onto desks. Second, follow the steps strictly. Third, observe carefully. Fourth, class rules: work quietly in groups and raise your hand if you have questions. Today we are going to find out how air pressure affects (影响) the water in the straw!
Class: Physics Date: 2025/12/09
An Experiment about Air Pressure
Materials: a cup, a straw (吸管), your finger, water
Steps:
1. Fill the cup with water until it’s almost full.
2. Put the straw into the water.
3. Cover the top of the straw with your finger tightly and lift the straw up.
4. Observe what happens to the water in the straw.
The science behind it:
Air pressure is all around us. When you cover the top of the straw with your finger, you stop the air from getting into the top of the straw. The air pressure below the water (from the cup) pushes the water up into the straw, so the water stays in the straw even when you lift it.
11. The experiment is done on .
A. September 12th B. October 9th C. November 12th D. December 9th
12. What do we need to prepare for the experiment?

C. A cup, a pen, your finger, water D. A cup, a straw, your eraser, water
13. The water stays in the straw when we lift it .
A. because the straw is very thin and strong
B. because water pressure is everywhere around us
C. because the air pressure below pushes the water up
D. because the cup is almost full of water
14. The purpose of this experiment is to .
A. let students know how to keep safe in the experiment
B. find out how the finger affects the water in the straw
C. teach students how to do a physics experiment successfully
D. show that air pressure is everywhere around us in our life

As 2026 comes, Omar, a young man from Slovakia (斯洛伐克), has been busy. He was invited to many New Year cultural activities to write the Chinese character “Fu” and send good wishes to people. Among all the calligraphers (书法家), Omar is quite popular. People are astonished that a foreigner can write such beautiful Chinese characters.
Omar’s interest in Chinese calligraphy began in his childhood. His uncle worked abroad for a long time and was interested in Chinese culture, often bringing back writing brushes, ink cakes and related books. Omar felt close and curious about these tools when he first saw them.
In 2005, Omar watched the Chinese film Hero. The part about the calligraphy character “Jian” made him feel the power and beauty of Chinese characters. He started to learn calligraphy by himself.
After graduating from university in 2013, Omar came to China for the first time to study Chinese and calligraphy. Later, he returned to Hangzhou twice for further study. He has lived and studied in China for more than ten years.

In small towns, people are used to saying hello to their neighbors in stores, on the streets and in front of their homes. In today’s city life, people may feel uncomfortable talking to neighbors they don’t know well at the supermarket. But greeting your neighbors is actually good for you, especially if you say hello to six people, according to a recent survey.
Saying hello to people increases your sense of well-being (幸福感), and “six” is the magic number. The well-being score increases from zero to six and then there are no further increases. These results are from a survey. The survey took about seven days and was based on the answers from 4,556 Americans. It covered social well-being, physical well-being, community well-being and more. People who said they didn’t say hello to anyone in their neighborhood scored 51.5. People who greeted six neighbors had a score of 64.1.
You might think that saying hello to neighbors is only about social well-being. In fact, regular greetings also improve a person’s physical well-being and community well-being. That’s because all of these are connected. You will be more likely to speak to people if you think your community is safe. Your physical well-being can improve if you are getting out and walking around your neighborhood.
We don’t require that you know the person well; just stop and talk to him or her. But the more people to whom you say hello, the greater the probability that you’re actually going to start a conversation with them.
While this is just a survey for now, saying hello regularly is a good way to improve your own well-being.
19. What does the writer encourage us to do?
A. Know about our neighbors well.
B. Speak to people if the community is safe.
C. Get out to improve our physical well-being.
D. Greet others even if we don’t know them well.
20. What does the underlined word “these” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Social well-being and physical well-being
B. Physical well-being and community well-being
C. Social well-being, physical well-being and community well-being
D. Regular greetings and conversations with neighbors
21. What is the best title for the text?
A. Say Hello to Your Neighbors B. Improve Your Well-Being
C. Live in a Safe Community D. Walk Around Your Neighborhood
22. What’s the right structure (结构) of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
D

24. What challenge do experts worry about most?
A. The high cost of tickets
B. The safety and reliability of the reusable systems
C. The low number of reserved seats
D. The weak public interest in space tourism
25. Which of the following would the supporters of the project most probably agree with?
A. High prices will always stop people from taking space flights.
B. The technology used in the project will help make space travel cheaper later.
C. Only rich people should be allowed to travel to space.
D. Other countries’ space tourism plans are better than China’s.

When tall people walk into a room, they stand out, which means they are usually noticed much more easily. They look nice and cool, so it’s no wonder that many young people want to grow as tall as possible. However, there are many myths (错误) about growth. Let’s check them and find out the truth.
Myth 1: People stop growing when they become teenagers.
Fact: Boys can still grow even in their early 20s, though both girls and boys grow more when they are younger. Girls are likely to grow more at younger ages than boys. But boys catch up and usually end up taller when they’re grown up.
Myth 2: A person’s height is totally decided by genes (基因).
Fact: Genes do play a role, deciding about 60% to 80% of a person’s height. But eating habit influences a lot. You are what you eat. For example, what children eat is very important. If they don’t eat healthily, they might not grow as tall as their genes would allow.
Myth 3: Caffeine stops children from growing.
Fact: A little caffeine use won’t keep children from growing taller. It’s fine for children to have a cup of coffee or tea. However, too much caffeine use might slow down growth because it gets in the way of sleep, which is when most growth happens.
Knowing how growth happens helps people make good decisions. For young people, eating healthy food is the best way to help them grow. But remember that even if you’re not as tall as you would like, your character and choices matter more.
