Want to know what your friends are really like? Take a look at their music playlist. More than 36,000 people, took part in an experiment. It compared their personalities with how much they liked different musical styles. The results show that personalities do influence what we listen to. Here’s what certain musical styles say about who you are.
Rock
Like the sound of loud guitars and heavy drum beats? This type of music sounds very exciting, but fans of it are often quite gentle.
Country music
If cowboy hats and guitars get you singing along, it’s possible that you’re hard-working, preferring traditional styles and values.

Classical music

But the experiment didn’t tell the whole story: where we grow up, who we often go out with, and our personal experiences play into our taste, too. The songs you choose to be part of your life make you different from others. But no matter what style you like, music is for everyone. And enjoying different types of music lets you get a taste of cultures you might not have experienced before. So experiment with your playlist!

13-year-old Sarah sits in her yard, laying out her handmade crafts (手工制品) on the table. There are baskets, flower pots, and cloth bags—all made from recycled materials. They are not just creative objects; they’re part of Sarah’s project to make a greener community.
Two years ago, Sarah would pass by a park near her house every day after school. Plastic bottles, empty cans, and broken toys littered the roadside. Seeing this, Sarah felt sad.
One afternoon, Sarah noticed some kids selling orange juice at the park. People stopped to buy it. That was when Sarah got an idea.
“Mom, what if we sell handmade crafts?” she asked excitedly that evening. “Then we can buy trees for our neighborhood with the money!”
With her mom’s help, Sarah started making crafts with great interest, using old boxes, plastic bottles and empty cans. Every day after school, she sat in her yard, waiting for customers. At first, no one came. Sarah felt down, but she didn’t give up.

Now, the neighborhood looks nicer, and the birds have more places to rest. Sarah even teaches her friends how to make eco-friendly (环保的) crafts after school. They organize sales every month to raise money for new projects like bird feeders.

In recent years, drones have become more and more popular. These small flying machines, which can be controlled by remote devices, are no longer just toys for hobbyists. They are now playing important roles in many parts of our daily lives, making our work easier and life more convenient.
One of the most common uses of drones is in delivery services. Big companies like Amazon have tested drone delivery for a long time. Instead of sending delivery workers by bike or car, drones can carry small packages (such as books, snacks, and even medicine) to people’s homes quickly. This is especially helpful in areas with heavy traffic, as drones can fly over cars and reach the destination in less time.
Drones also bring great benefits to agriculture. Farmers use drones to check their crops. Equipped with special cameras, drones can fly over large fields and take clear pictures. Farmers can then look at these pictures to see if their crops are healthy, if they need more water, or if there are pests. This helps farmers save a lot of time and energy compared to walking around the fields by themselves.
Besides, drones are useful in search and rescue work. When someone gets lost in the mountains or a forest, rescuers can use drones to look for them. Drones can cover large areas quickly and send real-time videos back to rescuers. This makes it much easier for rescuers to find the lost person, especially in dangerous or hard-to-reach places.
However, using drones also has some rules. For example, drones cannot fly near airports (because they may disturb planes) and must not be used to take photos of other people’s houses without permission. Following these rules helps keep everyone safe and protects people’s privacy.
With their many useful functions, drones are sure to become even more important in our daily lives in the future.
72. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To tell readers how to make a drone. B. To introduce the uses of drones in daily life.
C. To explain why drones are expensive. D. To describe the history of drones.
73. What does the underlined word “pests” mean in Chinese?
74. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Drones can be used freely anywhere. B. Drones are only used by big companies now.
C. Drones will be more useful in the future. D. Drones can replace farmers to grow crops.

Every year, Mayfield School holds a “Family Tradition Week”, where students share something from their culture. This year, Ms Patel’s class chose a delicious idea: the Secret Recipe Project.
Each student had to bring a family recipe — not the whole instructions, just a story about it. The goal was understanding history through food.
On Monday, Marco shared his grandmother’s tomato soup. He explained that she made it every winter to keep the house warm. When he read his story, the whole class said they could almost smell the soup.
On Tuesday, Amina brought a special recipe for sweet rice that her father learned from his grandparents. “It’s the taste of celebrations,” she said.
By Wednesday, something interesting happened: students started noticing similarities. Many recipes came from moments of comfort—rainy days, holidays and family gatherings.

根据“You’ve probably said—or at least heard—‘Hey Laotie!’ or ‘Hello Laoge!’”
根据“a new word is trending”及语境可知,这个短语正在流行和扩散。
根据“Laoji is a warm and funny way to say ‘yourself’.”
根据“love laoji”及后文“care for our own feelings”可知,这是关于爱护自己。
根据“In moments of stress”及“in comparison”可知,此处指在攀比中迷失自我。
根据“If you are tired, let yourself rest.”
根据“Far from being...”
根据“It ... us to be our own best friend.” better than“比……好”、other than“除了”、rather than“而不是”均不符合递进逻辑。
根据“So why not start today?” suggests“建议”通常接doing或that从句,不接sb to do;makes“使得”语气过强且通常接do;asks“要求”不如encourages贴切。
B

Here’s what certain musical styles say about who you are.
Rock
Like the sound of loud guitars and heavy drum beats? This type of music sounds very exciting, but fans of it are often quite gentle.
Country music
If cowboy hats and guitars get you singing along, it’s possible that you’re hard-working, preferring traditional styles and values.
Jazz
Fans of this strong music always come up with new ideas and are good at learning. If you like the saxophone of John Coltrane, then you’re probably self-confident and easy to get on with.
Classical music
If Beethoven and Mozart have you turning up the music, you’re probably quiet, but happy with who you are and comfortable with the world around you.
56. What influences our musical taste according to the experiment?
A. Personalities. B. Friends. C. Parents. D. Instruments.
57. According to the passage, if Daniel is creative, what may be found in his playlist?
A. Rock. B. Country music. C. Jazz. D. Classical music.

A. Changing our personalities.

Later, people began to stop by. A kind woman bought a cloth bag, saying it was perfect for shopping. Kids liked the flower pots, and one boy even asked Sarah to make him a special basket for his toys. By the end of the first month, Sarah had made $150! She bought 30 small trees. Together with her parents, they planted the trees around the park and along the sidewalks.
Now, the neighborhood looks nicer, and the birds have more places to rest. Sarah even teaches her friends how to make eco-friendly (环保的) crafts after school. They organize sales every month to raise money for new projects like bird feeders.
This year, Sarah shared her story at a local community event. “Making a greener community is important,” she said proudly. “If everyone helps a little, we can make our life better.” She believes that no effort is too small when it comes to caring for the environment.

For the final project, the class created a “Recipe Map”. They placed each recipe on a large world map based on where the family came from. The map was colourful and full of tiny illustrations (插图) of ingredients.
At the end of the week, Ms Patel gave a simple message: “We may have different recipes, but ________.”
The Secret Recipe Project reminded students that food carries more than flavour—it carries memories.
