Have you ever been to Finland? It is a very beautiful country in the north of Europe. There are lots of hills and more than 60,000 lakes. Forests cover most of Finland. People there can enjoy themselves in bird-watching, fishing and other outdoor activities. Many of them have weekend houses in the country next to lakes. These houses usually have saunas (桑拿) Saunas are wooden rooms filled with steam (蒸汽). People make steam by putting cold water on hot stones.
Saunas are an important part of Finnish culture. People in Finland like to have a sauna with their families and friends. Because sitting in a sauna makes them very relaxed. When they feel really hot, they run into the cold lake nearby to cool down. There is even a sauna competition in Finland. In the competition, people try to stay as long as they can in a sauna. This is really a hot competition.
Most people live in the warm southern part of Finland. The northern part of the country is in the Arctic Circle (北极圈). It’s called Lapland. People can see the beautiful Northern Lights there. Many children believe Santa Claus lives in the mountains in Lapland.
