People always say the sloth (树懒) is lazy. Is it true? Well, the sloth really doesn’t like moving. The sloth can only walk about 1. 8 to 2. 4 meters a minute. It’s the slowest animal in the world.
Sloths live in the rainforest (热带雨林) and trees are their homes. They like eating leaves and fruit on trees. They sleep in trees too. They like sleeping and they usually sleep for about 20 hours a day. The mother sloth even gives birth to a baby in trees! They only come down from trees for one thing-pooping (排便).
They poop every 4 to 8 days. That’s because sloths move slowly and some scary animals will kill them under the trees. But sloths are good swimmers. They move fast in water.
Usually sloths have brown fur, but you can always see them in green. That’s because there are some green algae (藻类) on their fur. With the green algae, it’s not easy for those scary animals to find them. But some people cut down many trees in the rainforest so sloths are losing their homes and they are in danger. We must do something to save them.
1.What do people think of the sloth?
2.What do the sloths like eating?
3.How long do sloths usually sleep every day?
4.Are sloths good at swimming?

Hi, my human friends! I’m a panda, the national treasure of China.
I am white with black fur on my ears, arms, legs and around my eyes.
My family belongs to the bear family. We have lived on Earth for more than millions of years. We live in the rainy mountains of Southwest China. And we usually live alone. We can climb trees and are also very good swimmers. Sometimes we relax by doing handstands by the trees.
We eat almost nothing but bamboo. To stay healthy, we must eat fast, eat a lot, and spend about 12 hours a day eating. That’s because we digest (消化) only about 20% of what we eat. And bamboo doesn’t have enough nutrition (营养). So we have to eat about 15% of our body weight in 12 hours. That’s why we eat fast.
Now we’re known all over the world, and we often go to other countries. We are the logo (标志) of WWF (世界自然基金会).
With your help, we are no longer in danger. Thank you, my human friends!
1.What does a panda look like?

In a small village, there is a beautiful garden. It is full of colorful flowers and tall trees. The villagers love to visit the garden, but there is one important rule: no one can pick the flowers or break the branches (树枝).
One day, a little boy named Timmy goes to the garden with his friends. They are all excited to see the beautiful flowers. Timmy notices a flower that is more beautiful than any other. He really wants to take it home, but he remembers the rule.
Timmy’s friends see the flower too and encourage (鼓励) him to pick it. “Just this one,” they say. But Timmy shakes his head. “We must follow the rules,” he answers. “If everyone picks a flower, there will be no flowers for others to enjoy.”
His friends think for a moment and realize he is right. They decide to leave the flowers alone and enjoy the beauty of the garden together.
A few days later, the village elder comes to the garden and sees how well the flowers are growing. He notices Timmy and his friends and asks them why they don’t pick any flowers. Timmy explains the importance of following the rules to protect the beauty of the garden.
The elder smiles and says, “You do a great job. By following the rules, you help to keep the garden beautiful for everyone!” He gives them each a small gift as a reward (奖励) for their good behavior (行为).

It’s the story time and the lion loves it very much. When the story finishes, the lion wants to listen to more stories, so he roars (吼叫). Miss Jones says, “Don’t be noisy, or you have to leave. A quiet lion is welcome.”
From that day on, the lion learns lots of rules. He also helps do some jobs in his free time. Everyone loves him. But one day, Miss Jones falls down. The lion goes to ask Mr. McBee for help, but he doesn’t know what to do, so he roars at Mr. McBee. He knows he breaks the rule and then he leaves.
For some days, the lion doesn’t come. Miss Jones isn’t happy. Mr. McBee knows why, so he finds the lion and says, “There is a new rule — ________.”

Food Myths
“Only fruit and vegetables are healthy foods.”
The human body needs to eat many different types of food to stay healthy. The Chinese Food Guide Pagoda shows us what food we should eat. While fruit and vegetables are healthy choices, it is just as important to eat foods from other food groups. Milk, for example, contains many nutrients and is good for our bones. We should include milk or dairy products among the things we eat.
“Eating fat makes you fat.”
Eating fat is important for keeping us healthy. It gives us energy and helps our body to take in nutrients. Not all fat makes us gain weight. Some fat can even encourage our body to lose weight. It is necessary to include some, but not too much, fat in our food to help our body work well.
“It’s OK to eat only what I like while I’m young.”
When we are young, it might feel like we can just eat whatever we want! For example, sweets and fried foods taste delicious. But we cannot eat those foods alone.

2.What do the sloths like eating?
3.How long do sloths usually sleep every day?

Life is full of rules. There are three rules about a healthy life. They may help you a lot.
Don’t sit all the time.
Sure, it is relaxing to sit on the sofa and watch TV. But doctors say you shouldn’t sit for a long time and you should do some exercise. To keep healthy, you have to walk about 10,000 steps (步) every day. And if you sit all day, you will become fat. It will be bad for your health.
Eat more healthy food.
It is important to eat fresh (新鲜的) food, such as fruit and vegetables. Fast food is unhealthy. Eating too much junk food will be bad for your health.
Don’t worry (担忧) and be happy.
Many people think happiness is important for our health. At school, we have so many things to do. There are always difficult classes, hard exams, and sometimes problems with friends. So, we may not feel happy every day. When you are worried about something, talk to your parents or teachers. They will help you. Try to be happy all the time. With exercise videos, he doesn’t need to go to the gym. With their examples, I want to give it a try. But my sister Linda, a P.
Eating balanced meals is very important when we are young. It helps our body and brain to grow well. Bad eating habits may stay with us our whole life, so it is best to develop good eating habits early!

2.Why is milk good for the body?
3.What can encourage our body to lose weight?

Having breakfast can give energy to your body and brain (大脑). It helps you stay strong and gives you lots of energy to start the day. When you eat breakfast, your body gets what it needs to work well. This can make it hard for you to get sick and help you grow well.
According to (根据) some studies, students who eat morning meals score 15% higher in tests than those without breakfast. In schools with breakfast plans, fewer students come to school late and more students take part in classroom activities better. At the same time, students who don’t have breakfast are easy to be angry or sleepy. They often feel weak and find it hard to listen to teachers carefully in class. They cannot think clearly.
Then, you may want to know what to eat for breakfast. Healthy choices like eggs, milk or fruit give nutrition (营养) to keep energy until lunch. Milk is good for your bones and teeth. It gives you energy as well. Apples can give you a lot of vitamins. You can have one as part of your breakfast. Try not to choose food with too much sugar, because it may make the energy drop (下滑) quickly. Instead, add fruit and nuts for nutrition.
Remember that even a 10-minute breakfast matters (要紧). You can prepare simple meals the night before to save time. Your body and brain will thank you.
