Although gratitude is often top of mind around the holidays, child development experts say this season is really a reminder that thankfulness works best as a daily, year-round practice, one that can meaningfully support children’s emotional health.
“As children regularly practice noticing small, good things, they’re building neural (神经系统的) paths that help them shift attention away from stress and toward positive aspects of their experience,” children’s music artist, author and mindfulness educator Kira Willey said. Over time, she said, those repeated moments help children “find good ground in all kinds of situations, even when things feel confusing”.
As concerns about youth mental health continue, experts say gratitude remains one of the simplest and most accessible tools families can use to support kids’ emotional recovery. For many families, gratitude has become a practical strategy for easing day-to-day stress.
Janine Marcello, a mom from Rhode Island, said that her family began a nightly gratitude check-in when her two daughters were struggling with uncertainty. “It wasn’t anything difficult,” Marcello said. “We’d just sit and go around saying one thing we appreciated that day. At first they rolled their eyes, but after a few weeks they were reminding me to do it. It honestly helped all of us settle our nerves.”
Experts describe gratitude as a multi-step skill: noticing something positive, recognizing someone else helped make it happen, feeling appreciation and expressing it. Children aren’t born knowing how to do this naturally; they build the skill slowly, often by watching adults model it.
For younger kids, gratitude works best when it’s playful, simple and added into routines that already exist. “The magic secret is to keep it short, keep it playful, and make it regular by keeping it to things you already do every day,” she said. That might mean pausing at breakfast to appreciate where food came from, naming something that made them smile on the ride to school, or sharing one small thing they’re grateful for at bedtime.
Parents shouldn’t worry if kids don’t immediately grasp the idea. The seeds you’re planting through these repeated moments will grow over time.
4.What do child development experts stress about thankfulness?
A.Work on many kinds of holidays. B.Support for kids’ emotional health daily.
C.Holidays for children’s physical health. D.Paths to mental practice.
5.What benefit do repeated gratitude moments bring children?
A.Building neural pathways to focus on stress. B.Recognizing stress easily.
C.Staying positive in different situations. D.Noticing small good things.
6.How does gratitude work best for younger kids?
A.By being long and formal. B.By being shared mainly at bedtime.
C.By being taught in special classes. D.By being fun, simple and regular.
7.What’s the best title for the text?
A.Gratitude: Teaching Kids the Skill B. Gratitude: Daily Practice for Kids’ Health
C.Holiday Gratitude: Why It Matters Much D.Gratitude: A Family’s Daily Story

Dr. Marie-Luce Chevalier, a Belgian/French geologist (地质学家), has been working as a research professor at the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences in Beijing since 2010.
For the past 14 years, she has been studying active faults (活断层) in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and how they move. In 2021, Chevalier was presented with the Chinese Government Friendship Award in appreciation of her contributions to the development of China’s disaster assessment system of earthquake and the promotion of cooperation and exchanges between China and other countries.
Chevalier’s choice of China as a research destination was not made by chance. Her research has primarily focused on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. She had also collaborated (合作) with Chinese scientists from the beginning of her master’s program. “When they asked if I wanted to join their team after my post-doctorate, I gladly accepted and have no regrets. My fourteen years in China have provided me with a constant source of fresh personal and professional experiences,” she said, adding that her mother’s interest in Chinese culture contributed to her decision to work in the country.
Chevalier will continue to research active faults in and around Xizang actively and contribute to our understanding of how past climate developed to work towards predicting future climate change, another topic near and dear to her heart. She will accomplish this by conducting field research, sharing her findings with scientific community, teaching students who will become tomorrow’s scientists, and raising awareness among local populations about the risks they may face in their lifetime.
Chevalier’s mother went to Xizang once, realizing her lifelong dreams. Chevalier keeps raising her daughter in this safe and highly international environment, Beijing. When people ask her daughter where she is from at four years old, she proudly answers, “China!” Chevalier wants to learn more about the Chinese language and culture, continue to enjoy the happiness of the Chinese people, and look forward to seeing what China achieves next!
8.What achievement did Chevalier get?
A.She established the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences
B.She launched the research on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.
C.She developed earthquake prediction system for China.
D.She won the Chinese Government Friendship Award.
9.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.When Chevalier began her master’s program.
B.What Chevalier experienced in China.
C.Why Chevalier bases her research in China.
D.How Chinese culture has affected Chevalier.
10.Which of the following best describes Chevalier?
A.Professional and devoted. B.Sympathetic and open minded.
C.honest and careful. D.Innovative and modest.
11.Why does Chevalier mention her daughter in the text?
A.To highlight China’s secure environment. B.To prove her close family connections.
C.To advocate Chinese learning. D.To emphasize her bond with China.

In the UK, 82% of women and 58% of men in prison report mental health issues. In turn, people are more likely to end up back in prison after release. This contradicts the whole point of prison: that punishment will discourage people from crime.
One way to improve well-being in prison is through sport. Sports programs have the potential to improve lives by offering, among other things, positive social connection. Feeling that you “belong” has a huge impact on health, a mechanism commonly referred to as the “social cure”.
The Twinning Project is a football charity that partners with over 70 prisons and professional football clubs to provide coaching to people in prison or serving community sentences.
We surveyed 164 participants to understand how the program influenced their sense of belonging and well-being. We measured their life satisfaction, optimism about the future and belief in themselves before and after the program. We also tracked the extent to which their psychological needs, such as feeling useful and close to other people, were satisfied.
Participants who identified more strongly with the program showed increased satisfaction with critical psychological needs, which helped explain improvements in life satisfaction and higher levels of optimism and happiness after the program. A stronger sense of connection was clearly linked to better well-being.
These results support our previous findings from interviews with participants completing community sentences. The interviews revealed that the sense of fellowship emerging in groups, combined with the guidance provided by coaches, helped to fill gaps in social support that many people experience in prison.
While sport alone cannot address the prison overcrowding crisis, programs that provide a sense of belonging are crucial to improving the situation. The social benefits of these activities should be a key consideration when designing content for people in prison. And the core idea of this program — engaging prisoners in healthy, educational activities together that develop soft skills and boost confidence — can be applied to any organized sport.
Ultimately, prisons should be places where people can participate in meaningful activities, encouraging their positive changes rather than just serving as spaces where people are locked away.
12.Why was the Twinning Project established?
A.To release prisoners early. B.To improve prisoners’ well-being.
C.To provide football training for prisoners. D.To replace punishment methods with sports.
13.What problem did many prisoners face before the sports programs?
A.They lacked social support. B.They spent a longer time in prison.
C.They experienced pressure from society. D.They received no guidance from coaches.
14.Which of the following can be a social benefit of sports programs for prisoners?
A.Encouraging positive change. B.Receiving better medical care.
C.Designing meaningful activities. D.Providing a sense of belonging.
15.What does the author focus on in the last paragraph?
A.The future of prisons. B.The activities in prisons.
C.The function of prisons. D.The improvements in prisons.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Today, the “I don’t care” attitude is becoming increasingly popular. Phrases like “I don’t care what anybody thinks” are often blindly used to express freedom and relief. ____16____ Understanding when to adopt this mindset can make a great difference.
The “I don’t care” attitude can be quite beneficial when it motivates us to persevere, especially when others have given up. ____17____ J. K. Rowling, for instance, faced widespread doubt when proposing Harry Potter, but she kept polishing her novel without worrying about criticism. It was her persistence in crafting a magical world that eventually brought her success. As you can see in Rowling’s example, ignoring external doubts can actually help us stay focused on our own goals.
____18____ This happens when someone acts out of stubbornness (固执) or a desire to shift blame, or acts selfishly, focusing solely on their own desires while ignoring how interconnected people’s needs are. In the case of recent social media algorithm scandals (算法丑闻), tech giants repeatedly ignored internal researchers’ warnings about mental health harms to teenagers, claiming “not their department” Finally, it has caused uncontrollable rising anxiety and self-harm rates among young users. ____19____
Therefore, it’s crucial to reflect on why we adopt the “I don’t care” attitude. Are we motivated by confidence in our decisions, or are we simply avoiding challenges? ____20____ There are times when it’s crucial to care deeply about others, the truth, and personal growth. At other times, it’s equally important to remain indifferent to negativity, distractions, or unnecessary pressures. By carefully choosing when to adopt the “I don’t care” attitude, we can lead more fulfilling lives.
A. The key is balance.
B. Motivation comes first.
C. Great achievements tend to come from ignoring doubters.
D. When no one takes responsibility, it is everyone’s disaster.
E. This mindset, however, can also have negative consequences.
F. Others, however, are always concerned about everyone’s feelings.
G. While this attitude can be liberating, it also comes with potential risks.

This year, I decided to take a course called AP Seminar to improve my research, presentation and teamwork skills. To help us, Ms. Maxson divided us into groups. At first, I thought she would assign them ____36____ (random), but she used a more creative method.
First, she gave us a lecture on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), ____37____ system that divides people into 16 personality types based on a questionnaire. According to this system, everyone is either introverted (内向的) ____38____ extroverted (外向的); intuitive or sensing; thinking or feeling; and prospecting or judging. ____44____ its imperfections, the MBTI offered valuable insights into our collaborative styles. Finally, Ms. Maxson formed groups considering personality compatibility. 第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last semester, our science teacher gave each of us some very special flower seeds. She told us it was known for being difficult to grow and required plenty of time, care, and patience before it would bloom. Some seeds might sprout quickly, she explained, while others would take much longer time, and it depended on many factors. I left the classroom that day with my heart full of excitement and determination: I would grow the most beautiful flowers in the whole class.
Once home, I carefully chose the richest soil and the cleanest pot. I placed the pot beside a window where golden light poured in every morning. Each day, I gently watered the seeds, checked the soil’s moisture with my fingertip, and even whispered soft words of encouragement to it. I imagined tiny roots stretching underground and a green shoot pushing upward any moment.
But weeks passed, and nothing happened. The soil remained bare and silent. Meanwhile, most of my classmates’s seeds had already sprouted into lively young plants. I began to feel upset and discouraged. I stared at the dull brown earth, wondering if my seeds were dead and if all my efforts had been a waste. Doubt crept into my mind, and I even thought about throwing the pot away.
My grandmother noticed my mood. She sat beside me, gently touched the pot, and said, “Everything in nature has its own time. Don’t be anxious. Keep watering it and waiting patiently. When the time is right, it will bloom in its own way.”
Her calm words soothed my restless heart. I decided not to give up. I continued to care for the seeds, but now without hurry or worry. I simply did what had to be done — watering, checking, waiting-and trusted that something invisible was happening beneath the surface.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
One Saturday morning, I got up and walked to the window as usual.

speech contest. From my perspective,The Beauty of Art"is a more favorable one
As is known to all,art plays a vital role in our life.It helps us discover the beauty
around us,develop good taste and enrich our spiritual world.Besides, talking about
art allows us to share our experiences in painting, music or calligraphy, making our
speeches more vivid and meaningful.I believe this topic can help all students feel the
power of art.
Hopefully,my suggestion will be taken into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version 2:
Dear Jenny,
I'm writing to express my idea about the speech contest topics provided by you.I
prefer "The Charm of Sports"to "The Beauty of Art".
Firstly, sports are closely related to our daily life and have great charm. It not
only keeps our bodies healthy and strong but also helps us build confidence, develop
teamwork spirit and relieve pressure from study.Additionally, every student has their
own sports experiences, such as playing basketball, running or swimming, which can
make our speeches more real and touching. This topic can also encourage us to keep
doing sports.
I think this topic will be popular among all our classmates.
Yours,
Li Hua
