As language learners, it’s important to use dictionaries. Paper dictionaries and online dictionaries are often great choices for us. Here is what some students think of the two kinds of dictionaries.
Lin Tao, 14
I like to look up something in a paper dictionary better. Their explanations are so clear that I can understand them better. I don’t think some online dictionaries are believable. There might be some incorrect usages which can make us confused.
Wang Lan, 15
If we are not good at memorizing English words, we can look up their meanings online very soon. It helps us finish reading the English articles more smoothly.
Meng Hao, 14
My paper dictionary is a great friend for me. Whenever I don’t know the meaning of a new word, I can learn it well by understanding the notes and the example sentences in the paper dictionary.
Tian Xiao, 13
I don’t like carrying a heavy dictionary wherever I go. It’s really convenient to learn a language with the help of an online dictionary. Using an online dictionary makes a more effective learner.
If you want to share your opinions, please mail us at 19765443562youthdaily@163.com. And your opinions will be carried on tomorrow’s newspaper.

So far, China has successfully sent a large number of satellites (卫星) and spaceships into space. Space scientists have been greatly inspired (赋予灵感) by the old stories and ancient famous people when giving them names.
Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Chang’e Flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China’s first man-made satellite to circle around the moon was named Chang’e 1. More interestingly, the moon rover (巡视器) was named after the Jade Rabbit, who is the partner of Chang’e in the story. These old stories carry people’s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true.
Kua Fu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kua Fu is going with the scientists to “visit” the sun, because we have a space project called Kua Fu Mission.
Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mozi, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2,000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China’s first quantum (量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground.
From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence it has on our modern science and technology.
4. What do we know about Chang’e 1 according to the passage?
A. It moves around the moon.
B. It “visits” the sun with the scientists.
C. It is the world’s first man-made satellite.
5. How does the writer support his opinion in Paragraph 4?
A. By listing numbers. B. By comparing facts. C. By giving an example.
6. Which is the right structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2, ...)
A. B. C.
7. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing the passage?
A. To spread the traditional Chinese culture.
B. To introduce the achievements in our science and technology.
C. To tell how traditional Chinese culture influences our space science.
【答案】4. A 5. C 6. A 7. C

Some people have a very poor sense (感觉) of direction. Unluckily, I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.
When I was a little girl, I never dared (敢于) ask strangers the way. And so I used to walk round in circles and hope that by chance I would get to the place I was going to.
Now, I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often receive helpless or even wrong information. So I try to avoid giving people wrong directions. If anyone asks me the way somewhere, I would say, “Sorry, I am a stranger here.”
Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual reply. But just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn’t want to keep him waiting.
When I just got to my office, the secretary (秘书) showed in the man who had asked me for directions. Imagine how embarrassed I was and how surprised he was when we saw each other at first sight!
8. Why would the writer say “Sorry, I am a stranger here.” when someone asks her the way somewhere?
A. Because the writer is afraid of giving people wrong directions.
B. Because the writer doesn’t want to tell strangers.
C. Because the writer has no time.
9. A man stopped the writer in order to ________.
A. sell her something B. ask for directions C. make friends with her

第四部分 综合技能(共两节,满分25分)
第一节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Qingming is China’s fifth solar term (节气), which falls on April 4, 2025. “Qingming” means the skies are clear and bright. Temperatures begin to rise and rainfall increases, making it an important time for plowing (耕种) and sowing (播种) in the spring.
The ancient Chinese believed that in this solar term, yin gradually decreases while yang begins to rise. An interesting saying “voles (田鼠) turn to quails (鹌鹑)” reflects this idea. The vole was believed to stand for yin probably because voles in winter stay underground. But with the temperature rising, they become more active and begin moving around on the ground. This is what quails usually do, and why they stood for yang. It’s said that in this solar term, ancient people would see quails moving in fields of grass and mistake them for voles. So this gave rise to the saying.
Among the 24 solar terms, Qingming, also called Tomb-sweeping Day, stands out as the only one celebrated as an important Chinese festival. Chinese people pay respect to their ancestors with offerings and by cleaning their tombs.
Many new and eco-friendly (对生态环境友好的) ways to celebrate Qingming have replaced the traditional practices of burning joss paper and setting off firecrackers. For example, in 2023, people at the Babaoshan Funeral Home (殡仪馆) in Beijing placed paper boats carrying wishes into a small pool. These things are made from water-soluble (可溶于水的) wood pulp (浆), with characters printed using food-grade pigments (颜料).

A. sell her something B. ask for directions C. make friends with her
10. The Friendship Building is the place where the writer ________.
A. lives B. studies C. works
11. The underlined word “embarrassed” in the last paragraph means “________”.
A. 困惑的 B. 尴尬的 C. 激动的
