B Mariatou is one of the most recent women solar engineers to be trained at the Barefoot College International training centre in Senegal. In her village, the lack of electricity made daily life quite challenging. Cooking, working, and studying after dark were nearly impossible. “We had to cook dinner early during sunlight,” she recalls. “When it rained for days, wild animals would enter the village and kill our livestock(家畜), which was a huge loss.” Reliable light was an unaffordable luxury. “If we wanted electricity, we had to buy expensive batteries for flashlights, which weren’t a long-term solution,” Mariatou explains. Children struggled to study by the dim light of kerosene(煤油) lamps, further limiting their opportunities. When Barefoot College International offered a solar training program in her village, Mariatou hesitated. Uneducated and unsure of her abilities, she doubted she could learn such technical skills. But her love for her family and her community’s desperate need for electricity urged her to take a chance. “I thought, ‘You cannot always find solutions in your village; sometimes you have to go out to explore more,’” she says. The program changed Mariatou’s life. From a woman with limited opportunities, she became a skilled solar engineer, capable of building and maintaining solar systems. Her newfound confidence empowered her to share her knowledge with her community. “I am not only taking my mind full of new knowledge but also my hands full of skills,” she proudly states. “I will be treated like a ‘Queen’ or a ‘hero’ when I return to my village.” Now with the skills and knowledge she gained through the Solar programme, she can help bring light and hope to her village. As she looks back on her journey, Mariatou says, “I am very thankful to Barefoot College International, and to everyone who made this possible for me.” 24. (原创)What problem was caused by lack of electricity? A. Children were unable to study at all. B. People had to cook in complete darkness. C. Wild animals attacked livestock on rainy days. D. Villagers couldn’t afford batteries for flashlights. 25. (原创)Why did Mariatou overcome her initial hesitation? A. To prove her technical skills. B. To explore more career chances. C. Humorous and patient. D. Creative and resourceful. 27. (原创)What message does the text mainly convey? A. Solar training is the best solution to poverty. B. Financial aid is essential for rural development. C. Education empowers individuals to create changes. D. Technical training should focus on female learners. C The ocean is home to masses of small floating organisms called zooplankton They’re between one millimetre and several centimetres in size, and they spend most of their lives asleep, deep in the ocean. New research has shone a light on how these small creatures are important for helping to protect the planet against global warming. The research, led by scientists from China, the UK and Canada, focused on the Southern Ocean (also known as the Antarctic Ocean). The Southern Ocean is around one-sixteenth of Earth’s total ocean area. The team studied types of zooplankton called copepods, krill and salps. These all eat tiny plant-like organisms called phytoplankton (浮游植物), which live near the sea’s surface and absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases trap the Sun’s heat in the atmosphere, causing climate change. In winter, the zooplankton sink about 500 metres below the ocean’s surface. They slowly use up the energy from the phytoplankton they have eaten, and release carbon dioxide through breathing. However, they’re so deep down that the gas they release takes many years — sometimes even centuries — to rise to the surface and enter the Earth’s atmosphere. This process is called the “seasonal migrant pump”. Each year, it transports 65 million tonnes of carbon to deep below the ocean’s surface. Professor Angus Atkinson, who worked on the study, told BBC News that without the seasonal migrant pump, levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would be double what they are now. Dr Guang Yang, another researcher, said that zooplankton are “unsung heroes” of carbon storage. The team hopes the study will encourage scientists to include zooplankton in their calculations of how much carbon is stored around the world. It also highlights the importance of protecting the Southern Ocean, where krill are under threat from fishing. Environmental campaigners are worried about damaging krill populations. As well as helping to fight climate change, the tiny creatures are food for whales, seals, penguins and seabirds. Taking too many could affect the food chain. 28. (原创)What do we know about zooplankton? A. They live near the ocean’s surface. B. They are smaller than one millimetre. C. They mostly sleep deep in the ocean. D. They only live in the Southern Ocean. 29. (原创)How does the seasonal migrant pump trap carbon? A. Water absorbs CO₂ from animals' breath. B. CO₂ rises very slowly from great depths. C. Phytoplankton absorb CO₂ during sinking. D. High pressure turns CO₂ solid underwater. 30. (原创)Why is it important to protect krill in the Southern Ocean? A. They dominate Antarctic fisheries. B. They stabilize phytoplankton growth. C. They produce oxygen for sea creatures. D. They sustain climate health and ocean life. 31. (原创)What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Tiny Heroes: The Ocean's Climate Guardians B. Ocean Pumps: Mechanical Carbon Collector C. Krill: Threatened Species in the Southern Ocean D. Phytoplankton: Unsung heroes of carbon storage D A recent accidental discovery could reshape our understanding of the brain and lead to new treatments for brain diseases. Researchers may have found a hidden network of vessels (血管) in the brain that helps it get rid of waste. If this discovery is confirmed, it could transform our view of the brain and conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. Normally, the brain cleans itself by releasing waste into the glymphatic system (胶质淋巴系统), a network of channels surrounding the brain’s blood vessels that feed into the lymphatic system, which helps the body remove waste and clean itself. Most imaging studies haven’t spotted lymphatic vessels within the brain, only in its protective outer layer. But now, Chongzhao Ran at Harvard University and his colleagues may have found a hidden network of lymphatic-like brain vessels inside the brain that connects to the glymphatic system. Team member Shiju Gu accidentally spotted these structures while studying brain samples from mice with an Alzheimer’s-like disease. These structures, named nanoscale (纳米级) lymphatic-like vessels (NLVs), were found in various brain regions in both mice and human brain samples. They seem to wrap around blood vessels, suggesting they help remove waste from the brain. Ran called this his “most significant discovery in 30 years”. The team used special markers that usually highlight lymphatic vessels, and these markers labeled the NLVs, though not as strongly as known lymphatic vessels. This led them to believe NLVs are a new type of vessel. However, some experts are cautious. They suggest these structures could be artefacts, meaning they may not be real features of the brain, but only false images caused by the way samples were prepared. They point out that earlier studies using more powerful tools did not report such structures. Despite the caution, Ran is confident, stating, “I’m 90 percent sure they are what we think.” He points to another study where disease-related proteins in mice brains seemed to enter nearby NLVs, suggesting these vessels do transport waste. If other research teams can confirm this, the findings could greatly improve our understanding and treatment of Alzheimer's and other similar diseases. 32. (原创) What did previous studies suggest about brain lymphatic vessels? A. They were widely present inside the brain. B. They existed only in the brain's outer layer. C. They formed a hidden network of vessels. D. They helped remove waste independently. 33. (原创) How did the team discover the NLVs? A. By reviewing existing researches. B. By studying diseased mouse brains. C. By comparing various brain regions. D. By using special lymphatic markers. 34. (原创) What does the underlined word “artefacts” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. New vessels. B. False samples. C. Artificial results. D. Special markers. 35. (原创) What is the main idea of the text? A. Experts doubt the new vessels are real brain features. B. NLVs are found in mouse and human brain samples. C. Glymphatic system helps the brain clean itself normally. D. Discovery of hidden brain vessels may reshape treatment. As we know, nutritious food and physical activity can help us stay healthy. Now, growing evidence suggests that social connections may also be key to good health. 36 About 1 in 3 adults nationwide report feeling lonely. About 1 in 4 say they lack social and emotional support. Many factors can contribute to such feelings. These include the quality of your personal relationships, your community, and society in general. 37 Scientists are working to better understand the links between social bonds and our health. And they’re looking for ways to counteract the effects of loneliness. “We found that loneliness is higher in young adulthood and older adulthood. 38 ” says psychologist Dr. Eileen Graham. Studies show that the urge to nurture(培养) children can play a protective role. As parents, people feel they’re contributing to society, and they’re teaching new generations. It promotes well-being. And it may help reduce the negative effects of loneliness. Besides, there’s an interesting thing that happens in late life: People tend to prioritize social connections that are high quality. 39 Research suggests that tendency in late life actually can be protective against loneliness. 40 But even brief interactions can make a difference. For example, you might go to the grocery store at the same time every week and see the same clerk. You can smile and strike up a brief conversation. Over time, you might feel more comfortable connecting with others in different ways. A. It declines during mid-life. B. It peaks during teenage years. C. High-quality connections are best. D. Socially connected people tend to live longer. E. There’s less focus on relationships that are a bit more casual. F. Your personal health, life stage, and personality can also have an impact. G. According to experts, China’s strength lies not in a single technological edge, 64 in building integrated systems. This has shortened the cycle from research paper to commercial product to just a few months. As Chinese robots compete in extreme tests like the half marathon, they are setting new industry standards, shifting from 65 (follower) to gamerule setters. The final whistle was about to blow in the last game of the season for my eight-year-old son Ben’s soccer team. The score was two to one, Ben’s team in the lead. Parents stood all around the field, their cheers and shouts of encouragement filling the air. With less than ten seconds left, the ball came loose and rolled towards Mikey O’Donnell, one of Ben’s teammates. “Kick it, Mikey! Now!” People shouted urgently from the side and his teammates called too. Mikey, looking very focused, stepped back and kicked the ball as hard as he could. A huge cheer went up from the crowd — Mikey had kicked the ball! It flew through the air... Then, a strange silence came over everyone, replacing the loud cheers. The ball hadn’t gone towards the other team’s net; instead, it flew past their own goalkeeper and landed firmly in their own net! Mikey had scored. But it was an own goal! The game ended suddenly, 2-2. A wave of stunned disbelief washed over the field. For Mikey, who has Down’s syndrome (唐氏综合症) , there is no such thing as a wrong goal. The simple joy lies in kicking the ball hard and watching it go into the net. Every goal, no matter which team scores, is a reason for pure, simple happiness for Mikey. He always celebrates with big hugs — he’s even been known to happily hug players from the other team when they score against his own team. The heavy silence was finally broken when Mikey, his face filled with joy, turned around. He saw Ben standing close by. Full of excitement, he ran at Ben, wrapped him in a tight hug, and shouted as loudly as he could, “I did it! I scored! Goal! Everybody won! Everybody won!” My heart beat fast. For a moment I held my breath, my eyes fixed on Ben. Ben froze for a second, held tightly in Mikey's happy hug. (满分15分) One possible version: Dear Editor, I’m Li Hua. Learning that our school is collecting ideas for the upcoming Campus Art Festival, I’d like to suggest adding traditional handicraft experience activities. The reasons are as follows. First, traditional handicrafts carry rich cultural value, and hands-on experience helps students better understand and appreciate them. Second, making things by hand is both relaxing and creative, offering a nice break from academic pressure. As for a specific activity, I recommend paper-cutting. It requires only red paper and scissors, so it’s easy to organize. We could invite an artist to give a short demonstration, then let students create their own simple patterns. Their works could be displayed on campus afterwards. I hope my suggestion will be considered. Thank you! 第二节 (满分25分) One possible version: Ben froze for a second, held tightly in Mikey's happy hug. Then he lifted his own arms, wrapped them round Mikey’s shoulders, and yelled, “Yes, you did! Best goal of the year!” Around them, the other boys echoed the cheer, slapping Mikey on the back, their disappointed faces melting into grins. The referee smiled, the parents clapped, and someone started chanting Mikey’s name. In that instant the scoreboard no longer mattered; the whole field belonged to one small boy who had taught everyone what winning really looks like. Tears welled up in my eyes as I watched. I realized the season’s trophy would gather dust, but this memory—of kindness louder than any whistle—would last forever. Ben jogged over, sweat and joy mixing on his cheeks. “Dad,” he whispered, “Mikey’s right. Everybody won.” I hugged them both, grateful that in the last game of the season, eight-year-olds had reminded every grown-up why the game is beautiful in the first place. Another possible version: Ben froze for a second, held tightly in Mikey's happy hug. He felt the shock of the lost win and the own goal. But Mikey was squeezing him so tight, bursting with pure happiness. Ben remembered how Mikey cheered for every goal all season, always happy no matter who scored. Slowly, Ben stopped being stiff. He put his own arms around Mikey and hugged him back. A real smile, even if a little shaky, appeared on Ben's face. "Yeah, Mikey," he said, his voice sounding funny, "You kicked it! Good job!" Seeing Ben hug Mikey seemed to wake everyone else up. Tears welled up in my eyes as I watched. The silence and tension melted away. One by one, Ben's teammates started moving. They walked over and gathered around Mikey and Ben. They patted Mikey on the back. "Nice goal, Mikey!" one kid yelled. "Yeah! Everybody won!" shouted another, using Mikey's words. The other team, the parents, and even the referees watched. Then, they all started clapping. I finally let out the breath I was holding. My heart was full of pride – not for winning the game, but for my son choosing kindness. Mikey was right. In that moment, with everyone celebrating together, everybody had won something much better than the game. W: Back again? Is your stomach still hurting? M: No, it’s fine now — and the heartburn is gone too. I’m just here for my yearly check-up this time. M: I never realized you were so good under pressure. I would be so nervous before a big tennis match. W: Imagine how proud my parents would be if I won. My way of preparing is to keep all my attention on positive results. M: If we can’t swim in this lake anymore, let’s just sit and take in the beauty. W: Exactly. At least we can admire the ducks. (3) Remember all the warmer days when we went hiking and went fishing here? M: Yes. ①Great times. W: Thanks for inviting me to breakfast at the dining hall, but I’ve already eaten. M: Oh, do you usually cook at home before class? W: No, I got something from the campus café instead. (4) Text 5 找车位 W: What took you so long? I have been waiting out here in the rain. M: There were no parking spaces, so I had to circle the parking lot for ages. W: Paul, wake up. Everything’s okay. M: Oh, ②I can’t believe⌒it. I dreamed I forgot to finish a school project. Everyone was looking at me! W: Don’t worry, dear. You were sleeping. It’s over. M: I know, but I should check my schedule now. What if this dream is a sign? W: Let’s save that for tomorrow. You know what, I once dreamed of missing a train, but when I woke up, I realized I was right on time for everything. M: Practicing speeches here is fine, but it’ll be much harder in a classroom with everyone watching, let alone speaking in front of hundreds in the gym! W: I know. That’s why I’m starting small in this quiet park. (8) Honestly, I don’t mind the audience, and I can read my speech anyway. What I really stress about is writing the speech itself. (9) M: Let’s team up on this. I’ll help you write down three key points you really want to share, (10) and then you can build examples and stories around them. W: Perfect. That’s what I needed most. W: Thanks for meeting with me before the game. I’m so excited to have a talk with you. M: Of course. This is a great opportunity to promote Asian baseball programs. W: That’s why I’m here. What led you to this position? M: I’m a former professional player and coach. After retiring, I bought this team in Seoul. W: Amazing! I can’t wait to see the team in action. M: Well, just wait until you see the hitting. People often forget that players hit balls flying at over 120 kilometers per hour. W: Or the challenge of catching. But what amazes me most is the throwing — the skill to throw like that is unreal! (12) M: Before the players arrive, I’d like to invite your media team onto the grass where the baseball games are played. (13) That’s more exciting than staying here in the office. W: That would be perfect! W: Ben! (14) (15) (16) I’m so glad I caught you! I’m calling to go over all the final details for the wedding. (14) And thank you again for the present. M: You’re welcome, sister. I’m all ears. W: Great. You know, Tom is Indian, so we’ll have a traditional Indian wedding. ③Do you know about that? (15) M: Only from some films. (15) But I’ve always wanted to travel to India. And maybe I can learn more directly from Tom. W: You will! First, you know the wedding is here, not in India. But it’ll still involve several days of partying. (16) M: Several days? That’s a shock. (16) W: Yes! In India, weddings are like festivals. There’s a ceremony where my hands will be decorated, and we’ll spend nights singing and dancing. M: Oh, I’ve heard about this! How long is the guest list? (17) W: We’ve invited 58 guests from Tom’s side, and 30 from ours. (17) But the place can hold 100 people. The subject I want to talk about is a character I’ve loved since childhood: Mr. Bean, played by Rowan Atkinson. For most of my life, I simply enjoyed his performances without knowing anything about Rowan Atkinson. It was only recently that I discovered he actually studied electrical engineering before becoming an actor. (18) He created Mr. Bean because he believed comedy could be understood anywhere without words. When I was a child, my parents didn’t let my sisters and me watch much TV, but Mr. Bean was always okay, because our parents enjoyed watching him too. (19) And it’s not just my family. Mr. Bean has aired in over 190 countries. We can all understand and relate to him, and laugh at his pure, light-hearted fun. I know you’ve all seen some bits of the show. Before I show you any favorites, I want to tell you more about the man behind the character: Rowan Atkinson. 答案:A 解析: 根据文章第一段第二句 “To help you find a place with family-friendly attractions and affordable hotels, U.S. News ranked the best family vacations in Europe.” 22. 答案:B 解析: 关于伦敦,文中提到: “The city is expensive, but you can find affordable places to stay.”(消费高,但能找到平价住宿) “The cheap Tube and red double-decker buses make getting around easy.”(公共交通便宜且出行方便) 综合可知,伦敦在花费与出行便利之间取得了平衡。 23. 答案:C 解析: 在Florence, Italy部分明确提到: “Then ride the old carousel in Piazza della Repubblica — a family favorite.” 24. 答案:C 解析: 根据第二段中 “When it rained for days, wild animals would enter the village and kill our livestock, which was a huge loss.” 25. 答案:D 解析: 根据第三段 “But her love for her family and her community’s desperate need for electricity urged her to take a chance.” They’re between one millimetre and several centimetres in size, and they spend most of their lives asleep, deep in the ocean. However, they’re so deep down that the gas they release takes many years — sometimes even centuries — to rise to the surface and enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Most imaging studies haven’t spotted lymphatic vessels within the brain, only in its protective outer layer. Team member Shiju Gu accidentally spotted these structures while studying brain samples from mice with an Alzheimer’s-like disease. 34. 选 C 解析: 后文直接解释: …meaning they may not be real features of the brain, but only false images caused by the way samples were prepared. A recent accidental discovery could reshape our understanding of the brain and lead to new treatments for brain diseases. If other research teams can confirm this, the findings could greatly improve our understanding and treatment of Alzheimer's and other similar diseases. routes(路线)、shapes(形状)、brands(品牌)均不对。 47. pressure(压力)、status(地位)、distance(距离)不符合。 49. neighbors(邻居)、adults(成年人)、strangers(陌生人)均偏离主题。 50.
