My family had a long-running cycle of growing up poor. Both my mom and dad came from large families with nothing except the clothes on their backs. Their parents had also grown up with very little.
When I was five, I showed an interest in machinery. By Grade 3, I was learning to program using the BASIC (指令代码) language. Then, one day in high school, my computer science teacher suggested that I attend a computer camp. He gave me a brochure (小册子), and I excitedly took it home. That excitement quickly disappeared when my mom saw the price of the camp: several hundred dollars. That evening, I went into my room and cried my eyes out.
But a few weeks later, I got a phone call. It was the head of the computer camp. He told me I had been admitted. I could hardly believe my ears. At that camp, I met many kids with the same interest and learned how to build websites. It lit a fire in me.
Ten years later, I received another call from the camp director. “I’ve found something and I think you’ll want to see it,” he said, suggesting we meet. When we did, he pulled out a long handwritten letter. My mom had sent it when I was 15. She wrote that I was a smart kid. She talked a lot about my early love for machinery and computers. She ended by saying she couldn’t afford the cost of the computer camp. She hoped that they would still accept me. I broke down crying at once.
Over the years, I continued to learn as much as I could. In 2014, I finally got a job where I could use all my skills. Now, I’m proud to say that I’ve broken my family’s cycle of living poorly.
And all I want to do now is to sit down with my mom and thank her for everything she has done for me. Without her, I would never have the bright life I have today.

Have you ever met someone who seemed confident before they even spoke? Confidence isn’t just something you’re born with. You can learn it. One of the best ways to start is through your body language. Your body sends messages all the time. The way you sit, stand and move tells people how you see yourself. So when you use confident body language, others notice, and over time, it can help you feel more confident too.
First, start with your posture (姿势). Keep your back straight and shoulders relaxed. Avoid crossing your arms or looking down. When you walk, move at a steady (平稳的), natural pace. Rushing can make you look nervous, while smooth movements show that you feel calm and in control.
Eye contact (眼神交流) is another key. Looking at the person you’re talking to shows that you’re listening and interested. You don’t have to stare at them just meet their eyes from time to time. If that feels difficult, try looking near their eyes instead.
Your hands also say a lot about how confident you feel. Keep them relaxed, not hidden in your pockets. When you shake someone’s hand, hold it strongly but friendly. Keep eye contact, smile naturally, and hold the hand for about three seconds before letting go.
Leaning (倾斜) forward a little while someone speaks is also good, because it can show interest. You can even copy small parts of the other person’s posture to make the conversation feel friendly and natural.
Confidence isn’t just something you feel inside; it’s something you can show with practice. As your body begins to look confident, your mind often starts to believe it too!
24. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. Giving advice on improving posture and movements.
B. Giving examples of some confident hand movements.
C. Explaining how we should control our walking speed.
25. Which of the following shows that you are confident?
A. Stare at others for a long time.
B. Look down when talking with others.
C. Shake hands in a strong and friendly way.
26. Which of the following is the correct structure of the passage?
A. B. C.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Good body language helps you make more friends easily.
B. Body language is more honest than words and hard to change.
C. You can learn to be more confident with proper body language.
D
I’m now very old and near the end of my life. But I can still remember many many years ago, I lived with my mother, aunts and cousins in a wild and beautiful land. We enjoyed our time under the deep blue sky. We had more than enough to eat. We never worried about anything until one day, when I was about three.
On that day, a group of two-legged strangers appeared in front of us—I found out later that they were humans. Without warning, they raised their guns and shot dead my mother and several of my relatives. As I was about to be shot, one of them said, “Keep that little one. He’s handsome and seems smart. We can make greater use of him.” I was then trained and made to do all kinds of stupid acts to make humans laugh.
Now, years and years later, things are changing for the better. Our population is starting to grow again. My great-great-grandsons and granddaughters are able to move freely across the land. They search for food, water and places to rest. The little ones sometimes break crops and people’s homes. But they are not chased or harmed. There are no angry humans going after them. Instead, people leave them bags of corn and fruit on the roadside. The food leads them in the right direction back to their homeland. Drones (无人机) follow their progress and volunteers protect them from harm. The little ones do not have to worry about anything. They move around without a worry in the world. They eat when they are hungry and sleep when tired. They swim in the river and play when they feel like it. No one asks them to move away from their land.
What a wonderful world this is! This is a world of harmony between man and other animals. In the old world, we were killed for our ivory. In this new world, humans respect and value all animals.
28. How does the writer begin the passage?
A. By describing a beautiful sight.
B. By sharing a memory from the past.
C. By giving facts about elephant population.
29. How did “I” feel in Paragraph 2?
A. Scared and sad. B. Surprised but excited. C. Angry and careless.
30. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. Elephants are still in great danger today.
B. People are helping elephants live safely and freely.
C. Humans are angry about the damage which elephants cause.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Elephant’s Sad Past B. How Elephants Are Saved C. From Pain to Peace

First we picked some strawberries. The work seemed easy but it took time to get it right. In the afternoon the farmer taught us how to cut leaves from tomato plants. This helps them to grow more fruit. Finally we watered the plants. Plants need so much work. It was tiring but I enjoyed working with my hands. One thing I learned today is farming isn’t easy. It made me think of a saying: every meal comes from hard work. The farmer let us take some vegetables home. My mom cooked some for dinner and they were fresh and delicious. Today was really a day to remember.

B
20. What do we know from Paragraph 1 about the writer’s family?
A. They lived a comfortable life for years.
B. They moved to new places for work often.
C. They had little money for a long time.
21. What does the underlined word “admitted” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Refused. B. Accepted. C. Changed.
22. Why does the writer mention his mom’s letter?
A. To show how much she supported him.
B. To explain why the camp cost so much.
C. To show the director wanted to be thanked.
23. Which of the following best describes the writer’s feelings as the story develops?
A. Calm → Angry → Bored → Proud.

C. Nervous → Relaxed → Tired → Worried.

第一段明确指出:“My family had a long-running cycle of growing up poor... Their parents had also grown up with very little.”,说明作者的家族长期以来经济拮据,几乎没有钱。
【21题详解】
第三段提到“He told me I had been admitted. I could hardly believe my ears.”,且后文提到他在那个夏令营里遇到了很多志同道合的孩子并学习了技能,说明作者最终成功参加了夏令营,结合语境,“admitted”意为“被录取/被接受”,即“Accepted”。
梳理作者的情感变化:拿到夏令营宣传册时:“excitedly took it home”(兴奋);看到价格付不起时:“cried my eyes out”(伤心/难过);接到录取电话时:“could hardly believe my ears”(惊讶);得知真相及现在的生活时:“thank her for everything”(感激)。因此情感脉络为:Excited → Sad → Surprised → Thankful。

【答案】24. A 25. C 26. B 27. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了如何通过肢体语言来培养自信,包括姿势、眼神交流、握手方式、身体前倾等具体方法,并指出肢体语言可以反过来影响内心的自信感受。
【24题详解】
第二段主要讲述了姿势和动作方面的建议,包括“Keep your back straight and shoulders relaxed”、“Avoid crossing your arms or looking down”、“walk at a steady, natural pace”等,这说明本段主要给出了关于改善姿势和动作的建议。
【25题详解】
第四段指出“When you shake someone’s hand, hold it strongly but friendly”,这说明强有力且友好的握手方式能够显示出自信。文中第三段指出“You don’t have to stare at them”,因此A项错误;第二段指出“Avoid... looking down”,因此B项错误。
第一段指出“One of the best ways to start is through your body language”以及“it can help you feel more confident too”,最后一段指出“Confidence isn’t just something you feel inside; it’s something you can show with practice”,这说明文章的主旨是通过恰当的肢体语言可以学会更加自信。
