Last week we asked our students from No.5 Middle School about their free-time activities. Our questions were about exercise, use of the Internet and watching TV. Here are the results.
We found that only ten percent of our students exercise every day. Fifty percent exercise four to six times a week. Twenty-five percent exercise only one to three times a week. And fifteen percent do not exercise at all!
We all know that many students often go online, but we were surprised that eighty-five percent of them use the Internet every day. The other fifteen percent use it at least three or four times a week. Most students use it for fun and not for homework.
The answers to our questions about watching television were also interesting. Only three percent of the students watch TV one to three times a week. Twelve percent watch TV four to six times a week. And eighty-five percent watch TV every day! Although many students like to watch sports, game shows are the most popular.
It is good to use the Internet or watch game shows, but we think the best way is through exercise. It is healthy for the mind and the body. Exercise such as playing sports is fun, and you can spend time with your friends and family as you play together. And remember, “Old habits die hard.” So start exercising before it’s too late!

“I feel a bit ‘emo’.” Do you often hear people say this these days? The word Emo is short for “emotional”. It means someone has big feelings. Usually, they are bad ones, such as anger, worry or sadness.
Everyone has bad feelings from time to time. You may feel upset when you get a low score in an exam. You may feel lonely after fighting with your friends. The emotions build up. At some point, they explode (爆炸). Boom! They make you shout and cry. You may not want to eat, speak, learn or play. What should you do?
Don’t forget that you are the master (主人) of your emotions. Do you know the Dementors (摄魂怪) in Harry Potter? They make people feel sad. But there is one way to beat them: eating some chocolate and trying to think of the happiest moment of your life. Let the good feelings fight the bad ones. In real life, you should always look on the bright side of things. For example, getting a bad grade in an exam is not always bad. Find out where the problem is, and next time you can do better. You will feel hopeful this way.
When those bad feelings come, you can also try some simple actions to drive them away. For example, breathe deeply just like smelling a flower, and then blowing up a balloon. Keep doing it and you can calm down. Do some exercise, such as jumping and running, or hug your parents, pets or your dolls. They can make you feel safe and happy.
33. Which of the following feelings is similar to “emo”?
A. Calm. B. Hopeful. C. Sad. D. Happy.

*The word “silent” means very quiet or speaking nothing.
1. A. grow B. growing C. grew D. grows
2. A. where B. when C. how D. what
3. A. does B. to do C. do D. doing
4. A. feeling B. feels C. feel D. felt
5. A. speak B. spoke C. speaks D. speaking
6. A. if B. until C. although D. so

8. A. would B. should C. must D. will
9. A. worry B. worries C. worried D. worrying
10. A. slept B. sleeps C. asleep D. sleeping
B 2. D 3. B 4. C 5. B 6. A 7. C 8. B 9. C 10. D
“make it hard for …well”是“make it+形容词+for sb. to do sth.”
make sb. do sth.“使某人做某事”,make后接宾语时,后面的动词要用原形,所以这里应选用feel。
句子前半部分“I was afraid that my classmates would laugh at me”与后半部分“I made a mistake”之间是条件关系,所以应选用if“如果”,引导条件状语从句。

29. How many questions does the writer ask students about their free-time activities?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
30. Which pie chart (饼状图) is TRUE according to the passage?
A. B. C. D.
31. Which is the best meaning of the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
A. It’s easy to change the old habits.

原文第二段提到“only ten percent of our students exercise every day. Fifty percent exercise four to six times a week. Twenty-five percent exercise only one to three times a week. And fifteen percent do not exercise at all!”,说明只有10%的学生每天锻炼,50%的学生每周锻炼四到六次,25%的学生每周只锻炼一到三次,还有15%的学生从不锻炼。

最后一段中,作者先指出“the best way is through exercise”,说明锻炼是健康的最佳方式,随后引用“Old habits die hard.”,紧接着建议大家“start exercising before it’s too late”。 B“It’s hard to break old habits.”一致。

A. Calm. B. Hopeful. C. Sad. D. Happy.
34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. When you get bad grades, you may not want to do anything.
B. Eating some chocolate can’t fight the bad emotions.
C. When you have good feelings, you can do some exercise to drive them away.
D. People can’t be the master of their emotions.
