In fact, the first man made plastic was made over a hundred years ago. IT was discovered both by an english men and an american in the same year. But IT was the american who first developed on a large scale during the eighteen sixties. Everybody was excited by this new material because I was so cheap. Poor workers were able to buy plastic colors. These plastic colors were hard and uncomfortable, but they were easy to wash. The poor workers could clean them every evening with just soap water. Poor mothers who had not been able to afford toys for their children were now able to buy inexpensive ones made of plastic. However, plastic has one serious fault. Some kinds of plastic can catch fire very easily. And when they do, a poisonous gas is produced. What's worse, plastic takes a very long time to break down. So IT causes serious pollution. We now use the term White pollution to refer to plastic pollution. This history of plastic is no longer than you might expect. In fact, the first man made plastic was made over a hundred years ago. Pilotti, inspired by Peking Opera’s unique theatrical style, decided to become an actor at an early age and chose to study physical theater at a Finnish university.
In 2009, as an exchange student, he arrived at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing to study Peking Opera for six months. Despite lacking Chinese language skills and Peking Opera background, he grasped the art form with the academy’s strict teaching. In 2010 and 2014, he returned to the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts to continue studying Peking Opera, which he later integrated into his original productions in Sweden.
In recent years, Pilotti has created theater pieces inspired by traditional Chinese stories—The Monkey King and Jingwei. The Monkey King show, featuring Peking Opera movements to express the character’s characteristics, has been really successful. “We’ve performed over 150 times and people are still coming,” Pilotti says. “The Monkey King is a famous character with many adaptations, so the audience already know a bit about him. But, when they can see the character up close in the show, it can be a surprise.”
Apart from merging Peking Opera elements with Western physical theater, Pilotti also engages children by interacting during shows and teaching them movements in workshops.
In addition to theater productions, he has been working as a cultural ambassador between China and Sweden, performing Peking Opera on variety shows, appearing in online videos, and giving speeches at forums.
Pilotti shares his work on his social media platforms, with many followers expressing awe at his performance and commending his efforts in promoting traditional Chinese culture. “My dream now is to do more cultural exchanges and maybe create a show where Chinese Peking Opera and Swedish actors perform together,” he says.
24. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 2?
A. Peking Opera’s influence on Pilotti. B. Peking Opera’s unique theatrical style.
C. Pilotti’s challenges in Peking Opera. D. Pilotti’s learning experiences in China.
25. How does Pilotti present The Monkey King show?
A. He uses Peking Opera movements in it. B. He combines it with the story of Jingwei.
C. He teaches the kids in the performance. D. He offers the audience many adaptations.
26. What does the underlined word “commending” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Spotting. B. Realizing. C. Praising. D. Identifying.

If you’ve ever played on a sports team or been to gym class, you probably know the practice. First, you do some warm-ups. Then you stretch (拉伸). Exercises and activities follow. At the end of the exercise, you do more stretches.
For years, coaches and gym teachers have believed that stretching helps athletes perform better, and suffer fewer injuries. From the health club to the football field, everywhere you look, people stretch. Now research suggests that stretching may not do your body as much good as people thought. After reviewing more than 350 scientific studies, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that stretching may not cut the chance of injury.
“There is not enough evidence to show that stretching is effective,” says Stephen Thacker, director of the CDC’s epidemiology (流行病学) program in Atlanta. “Certain athletes stretch all the time, but they’re the ones who are more likely to get hurt.” Thacker points to professional baseball players as an example. They all do stretches before a game. Yet baseball players have one of the highest rates of injury in any sport.
To understand why stretching may be a bad idea, it helps to know how muscles work. It all starts with orders from the brain. Special cells called neurons carry electrical messages from the brain through the nervous system to the muscles you want to activate. As soon as the messages get to their targets, the muscles react. When you stretch, you lengthen muscle fibers. It then takes longer for messages from the brain to travel through them.
Stretching before you exercise is particularly risky, experts say. Instead of stretching before an activity, they recommend warming up by starting slowly to get blood and oxygen flowing to your muscles.
28. What is the common belief about stretching among coaches and gym teachers?
A. It improves performance. B. It should be avoided in matches.
C. It is only useful for athletes. D. It may increase the risk of injuries.
29. What does Thacker want to explain by mentioning professional baseball players?
A. The downside of stretching. B. The purpose of the CDC’s study.
C. The value of the group game. D. The necessity of doing warm-ups.
30. What happens to muscle fibers when you stretch?
A. They receive more electrical messages.
B. They become shorter and tighter.
C. They lengthen and slow signal transmission.
D. They send signals directly to the brain.
31. What do experts recommend for warming up before exercise?
A. Focusing on your thoughts. B. Stretching as much as possible.
C. Following the coach’s order. D. Starting with slow movements.

Recently, the streets of Beijing has witnessed an extraordinary race. Over 300 humanoid (人形的) robots lined up alongside 12,000 human runners to compete in a half marathon — a distance of 21.0975 kilometers. This was not a scene from a science fiction movie but the second annual Humanoid Robot Half Marathon held in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area.
The event has grown dramatically since its first edition. Last year, only 20 teams participated, and just six robots managed to finish the race. Many stumbled, fell, or ran out of battery power halfway through. This year, however, more than 100 teams from 13 provinces and even five international teams joined the competition. Nearly 40 percent of the robots used autonomous navigation, meaning they found their way without human remote control.
The star of the race was a robot named “Lightning”, which completed the course in just 50 minutes and 26 seconds — nearly seven minutes faster than the human world record for a half marathon. But not every robot was built for speed. The challenging course included flat roads, slopes, sharp turns, and narrow paths that tested each machine’s balance, battery life, and real-time decision-making abilities.
So why hold a marathon for robots? Experts say such events are not just for entertainment. They serve as a real-world test for technologies that will one day be used in factories, hospitals, and even our homes. Running 21 kilometers forces engineers to solve problems like overheating motors, battery efficiency, and stable movement over uneven ground. “The problems exposed on the racetrack are sometimes more valuable than a smooth finish,” one industry observer noted.
The robot marathon reflects a larger trend: 2026 is widely seen as the year humanoid robots begin mass production. Competitions like this push the technology forward faster than any laboratory test could. As robots continue to move from the lab to the real world, the sight of them racing down city streets may soon feel less like an unusual sight and more like a preview of everyday life.
32. How has the robot half marathon changed since last year?
A. Fewer teams participated due to stricter rules.
B. The number of teams increased by nearly five times.
C. Robots were no longer allowed to use remote control.
D. The race distance was shortened to 10 kilometers.
33. What was special about the robot named “Lightning”?
A. It finished the half marathon faster than the human world record.
B. It was the only robot that completed the race without falling.
C. It was controlled entirely by a human operator with a remote.
D. It ran out of battery just a few meters before the finish line.
34. According to the passage, why are robot marathons considered valuable?
A. They provide entertainment for people who are bored with human sports.
B. They allow engineers to test and improve real-world robotic technologies.
C. They help robot companies earn large amounts of money from ticket sales.
D. They prove that robots are smarter than human beings in every way.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Robots that complete a half marathon will be mass-produced.
B. Laboratory tests of robotic technologies are no longer effective.
C. Robots are designed to complete racing competitions on city streets.
D. The presence of robots will become a regular part of future daily life.

Think “art”. What comes to your mind? Is it Greek or Roman sculptures in the Louvre, or Chinese paintings? Have you ever imagined it’s a dancing pattern of lights?
The artworks created by American artist Janet Echelman look like colorful floating clouds when lit up at night. Visitors could not only enjoy looking at them but also interact with them literally — by using their phones to change the colors and patterns. But are they really art?
Whatever your opinion, we cannot deny art has existed for thousands of years and art and technology have always been two separate things.
Today, however, technological advances have led to a combination of art and technology, changing the art world greatly. Now art is more accessible to us. For example, people used to queue up for six hours but spend limited time admiring the famous 5-meter Chinese painting Along the River during the Qingming Festival. Thanks to technology, however, viewers can leisurely experience a digital version of this painting, where the characters can move and interact with their surroundings.
The combination of art and technology is also changing our concepts of “art” and the “artist”. Not only can we interact with art, but also we can take part in its creation. With new technological tools at our fingertips, more people are exploring new art forms, such as digital paintings and videos.
However, it has also raised questions over its overall quality. Can a video of someone slicing a tomato really be called “art”?
Similarly, such developments are making the line between art and technology less distinct.
Can someone unfamiliar with traditional artists’ tools really call themselves an “artist”? And is the artist the creator of the art itself, or the maker of the technology behind it?
Where technology will take art next is anyone’s guess. But one thing is for sure — with so many artists exploring new possibilities, we can definitely expect the unexpected.
36. How could viewers interact with Janet Echelman’s artworks?
A. By talking to her on the phone. B. By lighting up the artworks.
C. By touching their phone screens. D. By coloring the patterns.
37. What does the example in Paragraph 4 indicate?
A. Achievements of China’s technology. B. The influence of art on technology.
C. Interaction between viewers and art. D. Easier access to art caused by technology.
38. What do we know about the combination of art and technology?
A. It lowers the quality of artworks. B. It involves common people in innovation.
C. It shortens the time of painting. D. It makes scientists the real creators of art.
39. What is the author’s attitude towards combining technology with art?
A. Subjective. B. Objective.
C. Negative. D. Positive.

17. Who first developed plastic on a large scale?
A. An Englishman. B. An American. C. A Frenchman.
18. What was the benefit of plastic collars?
A. They looked cleaner.
B. They were soft.
C. They were easy to wash.

B. They were inexpensive
C. They were safe.
20. What does the speaker talk about at the end?
A. The harmful side of plastic.
B. The popularity of plastic.
C. Different ways of using plastic.
【答案】17. B 18. C 19. B 20. A
【解析】
【原文】 W: This history of plastic is no longer than you might expect. In fact, the first manmade plastic was made over a hundred years ago. It was discovered both by an Englishman and an American in the same year, but it was the American who first developed it on a large scale during the 18 sixties. Everybody was excited by this new material because it was so cheap. Poor workers were able to buy plastic collars. These plastic collars were hard and uncomfortable, but they were easy to wash. The poor workers could clean them every evening with just soap and water. Poor mothers who had not been able to afford toys for their children were now able to buy inexpensive ones made of plastic. However, plastic has one serious fault. Some kinds of plastic can catch fire very easily, and when they do, a poisonous gas is produced. What’s worse, plastic takes a very long time to break down so it causes serious pollution. We now use the term white pollution to refer to plastic pollution.

【26题详解】
词义猜测题。根据最后一段“Pilotti shares his work on his social media platforms, with many followers expressing awe at his performance and commending his efforts in promoting traditional Chinese culture.(皮洛蒂在社交媒体平台分享他的作品,许多粉丝对他的表演表示惊叹,并对他推广中国传统文化的努力表示commending)”中“expressing awe(表示惊叹)” 与 “commending” 并列,所以粉丝对他推广文化的努力应是赞扬态度。由此猜测,划线词意为“赞扬”。故选C。
【27题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第二段“In 2009, as an exchange student, he arrived at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing to study Peking Opera for six months. Despite lacking Chinese language skills and Peking Opera background, he grasped the art form with the academy’s strict teaching. C
【答案】28. A 29. A 30. C 31. D
【解析】
【导语】本文主要讲的是拉伸运动可能并不像人们长期认为的那样有益,可能并不能降低受伤的几率。
【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“For years, coaches and gym teachers have believed that stretching helps athletes perform better, and suffer fewer injuries.(多年来,教练和体育老师一直认为伸展运动能帮助运动员表现更出色,并减少受伤几率)”可知,教练和体育老师普遍认为拉伸能提高运动表现。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段““Certain athletes stretch all the time, but they’re the ones who are more likely to get hurt.” Thacker points to professional baseball players as an example. They all do stretches before a game. Yet baseball players have one of the highest rates of injury in any sport.(“有些运动员总是进行拉伸运动,但他们受伤的可能性反而更大。”Thacker以职业棒球运动员为例进行说明。他们都会在比赛前进行拉伸训练。然而,棒球运动员在所有运动项目中受伤率却是最高的)”可知,Thacker提到职业棒球运动员时,他是想说明拉伸运动的弊端。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“When you stretch, you lengthen muscle fibers. It then takes longer for messages from the brain to travel through them.(当你伸展身体时,会拉长肌肉纤维。这样一来,大脑发出的信号通过这些纤维传递的速度就会变慢)”可知,拉伸会使肌纤维变长,大脑传递的信号需要更长时间通过。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Instead of stretching before an activity, they recommend warming up by starting slowly to get blood and oxygen flowing to your muscles.(他们建议,在进行活动之前不要进行拉伸运动,而是先通过缓慢地开始活动来让血液和氧气流向肌肉,以此来做好热身准备)”可知,专家建议通过缓慢开始来热身。
D
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. B 35. D

A. Subjective. B. Objective.
C. Negative. D. Positive.
【答案】36. C 37. D 38. B 39. B
