1 tradition /trəˈdɪʃn/ n. 传统;传统的信仰(或风俗)
(1)tradition n. 传统;传统的信仰(或风俗) 表“传统”这一抽象概念时不可数,表“某一具体的传统/ 习俗”时可数。
keep up a tradition 保持传统;by tradition 传统上;cultural tradition 文化传统
(2)traditional adj. 传统的→traditional culture 传统文化
例:Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with family is a precious tradition in China. 和家人一起庆祝中秋节是中国珍贵的传统。

2 fit /fɪt/ adj. 健康的;适合的 v. 适合

Part2 核心短语
1 be aware that意识到……
例:You are well aware that you need to exercise to keep your body fit.
2 get on with 继续;开展
例:The faster they can forget an incident or missed opportunity and get on with the game, the better they will perform.
3 is affected by被……影响
例:Although the next sentence is related to the last, it is not affected by it.
4 to the best of one’s ability尽某人最大的能力
例:Your job is to deliver each sentence to the best of your ability.
5 stop... from doing阻止……做……
例:Stop the past from influencing your daily life.
Part3 核心句式
1 While cultures and traditions may be different from one another, certain universal habits can help you stay fit. 尽管文化和传统可能各不相同,但一些通用的习惯能帮你保持健康。
(1)分析结构: 本句为主从复合句。主句主语为certain universal habits,谓语为can help,宾语为 you,stay fit 作宾补。While 引导让步状语从句。
(2)while引导让步状语从句
while 表示“虽然;尽管”,引导的从句与主句形成语义转折,从句通常位于句首,且从句和主句之间常用逗号隔开。while 引导让步状语从句时,不能与but 连用,但可与 yet/still 连用加强语气。
while 引导让步状语从句时,语气比 although/though 稍弱,更侧重“对比”转折(即从句和主句的情况存在对比关系)。
(3)引导让步状语从句的引导词还有:though /although;even if /even though;no matter + 疑问词(what/who/which/when/where/how);疑问词 + ever(如 whatever =no matter what, whoever = no matter who 等)。
例:While the task is a bit difficult, we can still finish it on time with teamwork. 尽管这项任务有点难,但通过团队合作我们仍然能按时完成。
Even if you don’t know all the new words, you can guess the meaning from the context.即使你不认识所有生词,你也能通过上下文猜测意思。
No matter how difficult the English homework is, she always tries her best to finish it alone.无论英语作业有多难,她总是尽最大努力自己完成。
2 The longer it takes you to recover, the more influence that incident has on your actions, and the less able you are to perform to your personal best.
长难句分析:这是一个“the + 比较级..., the + 比较级...”结构,其中“it takes you to recover”是形式主语句型(真正的主语是to recover)。
Part 4 单元语法
定语从句
学习定语从句,首先要明确三个核心概念:定语从句、先行词和关系词。顾名思义,定语从句就是在一个主从复合句中修饰先行词充当其定语的句子。被定语从句修饰的名词或代词叫做先行词,而像 that、which、who /whom、whose 这样用来引导定语从句,同时在从句中充当一定语法成分的词,是关系词,本单元主要讲解关系代词that、which、who/whom、whose 引导的定语从句。
考点1 that 引导的定语从句
that 是使用范围较广的关系词,指代的先行词既可以是人也可以是物,在从句中可充当主语或宾语(作宾语时that 可以省略)。
例:The boy that won the first prize in the English competition is very clever. 在英语竞赛中获得一等奖的那个男孩非常聪明。(that 在从句中作主语,不能省略。)
考点2 which 引导的定语从句
which 指代的先行词只能是物,在从句中同样可充当主语或宾语(作宾语时which 可以省略)。
例:The book which lies on the desk is mine. 放在桌子上的那本书是我的。(which 在从句中作主语,不能省略。)
I bought a pen (which) my mother likes very much. 我买了一支我妈妈非常喜欢的钢笔。(which 在从句中作宾语,可以省略。)
考点3 who/whom 引导的定语从句
1. 当先行词是人时,关系代词用who,且who在从句中充当主语或宾语。
例:The girl who is talking with our teacher is my deskmate.正在和我们老师说话的那个女孩是我的同桌。(先行词是The girl,关系词who 在从句中作主语,不能省略。)
This is the man (who) I met in the park yesterday.这就是我昨天在公园遇到的那个男人。(先行词是the man,关系词 who 在从句中作宾语,可以省略。)
2. whom指代的先行词只能是人,且在从句中只能充当宾语。
例:The boy whom we helped yesterday is my deskmate.我们昨天帮助的那个男孩是我的同桌。(whom在从句中作宾语)
考点4 whose引导的定语从句
whose引导定语从句时,先行词可以是人或物,在从句中作定语,后必须接名词。
例:The girl whose hair is long is my best friend. 那个长头发的女孩是我最好的朋友。(whose指代The girl,在从句中作定语)
The house whose window faces south is mine. 那个窗户朝南的房子是我的。(whose指代The house,在从句中作定语)
考点5 先行词指物时,只用that不用which 的情况

①当先行词是all、little、much、none、everything、anything、nothing 等不定代词时。

②当先行词前面有the only、the very、the last、all、any、no等修饰时。

③当先行词前面有序数词或形容词最高级修饰时。

④当主句是以疑问词which 开头的特殊疑问句时。
Which is the hotel that you like best? 哪个是你最喜欢的酒店?
⑤先行词既有人又有物时。
We talked about persons and things that we remembered in middle school. 我们谈论了我们在中学时记得的人和事。
考点6 先行词指物时,只用which 不用that 的情况
