Long, long ago, in a little village lived a humble(谦虚的) man named Ashwin. He went about making ends meet by pulling a rickshaw(人力 车) and transporting passengers from one destination to another. Times were hard and he had to take the responsibility for supporting his family.
One day, while returning from work, a man who looked like a wealthy person coming from the city stopped his rickshaw. He quickly told Ashwin the place he wanted to visit. His car had broken down and he desperately needed to get to the mentioned address urgently. After an uneventful ride, they reached the destination, and the passenger paid the fare.
Ashwin, on returning home, found to his surprise that his passenger just then had dropped a small bag in his rickshaw. On opening it, he found 50 gold coins in it. He showed it to his family who couldn’t believe their luck. His wife said with joy, “Thank goodness. Now we find a solution to our problems.”
That night, Ashwin couldn’t sleep. His conscience(良心) kept troubling him. At the crack of dawn, he woke his wife up. He said, “Lalita, I think it’s wrong to keep someone else’s gold coins. I am going to search for the man and hand over the coins to him.” Lalita was shocked and cried, but Ashwin stuck to his word. He tried hard to find the man, but nothing seemed to work.
Eventually when he was about to give up, he saw that wealthy passenger. Ashwin ran to him and thrust(塞) the bag in his hand, “Sir, you left this bag in my rickshaw. I have been looking for you since then and I am so relieved to find you. Please take this,” he said.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高一下四川资阳市·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a busy morning and I had several tasks to do before the day became too hot outside. While walking by the side of a busy road, I noticed an old lady, maybe in her 80s standing in danger close to the traffic. Although my mind was occupied, I thought to myself that I should warn her not to stand so close to the traffic rushing by.
When I reached the spot where the old lady was standing, I recognized that she was trying to get attention of passersby who of course were too busy to take note of her. She kept pointing to the middle of the road. When I tried to gently move her back further away from the edge of the busy road, she said that she was standing there because she had dropped her house key in the middle of the road and was unable to open her house without the key. I looked around and no one seemed to be interested in the two of us. I knew I was getting delayed but decided to help.
The traffic was busy on the road with people on two-wheelers and office goers in cars as well as school buses rushing with school children. It was the worst time of the day to cross a busy road without a traffic light.
After asking the old lady to stay at a safe distance, I took a deep breath, stepped onto the road, and waved my hands wildly, expecting not to be hit by the coming vehicles. At first one lane stopped and then I moved further on to the middle of the road, continuing to wave my hand. Just then a school bus was approaching me and I stepped in front of it to stop it. My experience has been that school bus drivers are always considerate of reckless (鲁莽的) pedestrians like me.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高一下四川广安市广安区等3地·期末)
I inhaled deeply, expelling the breath against the rear window of the vehicle, and with a finger, I etched the word ‘DREADFUL’ into the misty surface of the glass, creating a temporary inscription that mirrored my inner turmoil.
My father, casting a brief glance in my direction through the reflective surface of the rearview mirror, offered a comforting remark, “Alex, this journey presents itself as an auspicious occasion for you to reconnect with your maternal and paternal elders.”
The vehicle made a deliberate turn onto a well-trodden dirt path, one that I recognized all too well. We were progressively distancing ourselves from the urban confines, moving further away from the digital tendrils of the Internet, and even more so from the stimulating environment of the computer camp.
“Brighten up, Alex!” exclaimed my mother, her voice carrying a note of optimism. “There is every likelihood that another opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of coding will arise shortly, perhaps even within this very summer season.”
As the car continued its journey, I was acutely aware that all my companions in the realm of programming would be engaged in the act of coding at the computer camp this week, while I, on the other hand, was to be ensconced in the rural setting of a farm. I uttered not a single syllable, and in due course, the vehicle came to a halt in the driveway of my grandparents’ abode. A slender row of trees materialized into view, their presence a stark contrast to the urban landscape I was leaving behind.
I had once taken pleasure in visiting the farm during the spring intermissions before my immersion into coding camps... and before the realization of the extent to which my actions could lead to chaos and disorder.
The engine of the car had not yet ceased its hum when my grandmother, with an agility that belied her years, sprang towards us. From my vantage point in the backseat, I observed as my father and mother embraced my grandmother. I, in turn, reluctantly extracted myself from the vehicle, feeling as though the very force of gravity had grown unusually intense.
“You both are certainly deserving of a respite,” my grandmother was saying, her words directed towards my parents. “Alex will be in good stead — he has always held a fondness for the farm.” She spoke in the past tense, implying that Alex had once cherished the farm.
During the midday meal, my grandmother inquired, “Why such a somber countenance, Alex?” I maintained my silence. Why indeed? It seemed as though they were acting in ignorance of the events that had transpired during my previous visit. For a fleeting moment, my gaze met with my grandmother’s. Could I muster the courage to question her regarding the goats’ destruction of all the flora belonging to our neighbor, Mr. Jackson, an incident that occurred because I had inadvertently lifted the latch and allowed the goats to roam free? Was Mr. Jackson still seething with anger towards me for the considerable damage I had inadvertently caused him?
“I am quite alright,” I muttered, my voice barely audible. “It is merely the absence of the coding camp this week that I am lamenting. Coding is an activity at which I excel.”
My mother offered a nod of understanding. “Ah, that does sound disheartening, but the farm will undoubtedly offer you a different kind of experience.”
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
After lunch, I was on my own when, out of nowhere, there’s Mr. Jackson.

Passage 4

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Twenty years ago, when Jase was seven years old, he still vividly remembered that before Christmas arrived, his mum encouraged him to write letters to Santa Claus himself.
Every year youngsters write adorable notes addressed to Santa Claus, a town in Indiana and the only one to have a post office named after Santa Claus. She told him that Santa gets tons of letters from kids across the globe, so sometimes he isn’t able to get a kid everything on their list.
In his little house, Jase was writing a letter to Santa excitedly and quickly:
Dear Santa,
I’m Jase. I went to school this year. I’ve done so many good things this year. Our teacher often praises me in class. I like reading books, especially the picture book you gave me last Christmas. There is a brave firefighter in the book. When I grow up, I also want to become a hero like him. Could you give me superpowers this year? Then I can be a superhero and save lives. I can be a firefighter! Please realise my wish!
It’s amazing how you deliver presents every year to kids like me all over the world.
Thank you so much.
After his father helped him send the letter, he waited for a reply every day. Weeks later, it was finally Christmas. When he ran down the stairs, he saw many packages under a tall Christmas tree in the living room, like a small mountain. He immediately saw Lego set and stickers from his younger sisters, Milly and Rosie. He stopped dead before the tree, looking for his present.
“A fire truck!” he shouted loudly. “Santa gave me superpowers! I’ll become a firefighter!” Jase had learned at school that firefighters were true heroes who saved people from danger. So the little boy wished to be a firefighter. He was so happy that he spent the whole day driving his toy truck. That evening, he couldn’t sleep. He took his truck down to the living room and drove it around. Suddenly, he felt something strange.

There are many things in senior middle school that I still remember clearly. I studied three years in a country school, which is faraway. However, it has a good environment and strict but kind teachers, so I loved the school and all my teachers very much.
One Friday, just as we began to read books in reading class at our desks, our teacher, Mrs. Hill, said that she needed to be out of the classroom for a few minutes. She asked the class to read in silence while she was gone. And she said that those who didn’t read books in silence would have to be punished when she returned. It was well-known that Mrs. Hill was strict. So we had to be on our best behaviour.
But that Friday, Mrs. Hill hadn’t been gone for ten seconds before some students in the classroom started to talk. From one corner of the room I heard Josh ask Nick, “Can I trade my candies for your toy?” At the other end of the room I heard Samantha tell Kayla, “Let’s sit together on the bus for the museum field trip tomorrow.” And so it went all around me, until about half of the students communicated with each other.
After a while, I, too, forgot about Mrs. Hill’s instructions. I turned back and asked my friend Liza, “Can I borrow your storybook and keep it for a day?” As soon as the words were out of my mouth, Mrs. Hill walked into the classroom. The whole class returned to silence immediately. And we were full of fear.
Mrs. Hill slowly looked around the classroom and said, “If you were talking while I was gone, then please stand up.” The guilt (内疚) suddenly weighed heavily on me. “I shouldn’t have talked while she was not in the classroom. And now I should be honest and admit my mistake bravely. This is what my parents have always told me.” I thought. Then, I summoned up (鼓起) my courage to stand up, worried about the punishment that waited for me. Then I looked around.

I didn’t like Del so much. He always called me the nickname “Germy”, which meant “dirty”, instead of my real name “Jamie”. Besides, he was known as a trouble-maker in school. So when the head teacher Mr. Smith asked Del to come to his office, I naturally thought that Del had done something mean to someone. Through the window, I caught sight of a smaller boy crying. Del seemed unhappy, too.
He did not return to class that day. All of us were discussing what had happened to him. What else could such an annoying boy do? “He must have hit the boy and was sent home,” I whispered to my friends. Their eyes widened. It felt good to see them so interested in what I said.
The next morning, the whole school was talking about Del being expelled(开除) for beating up a kid. I was surprised that my assumptions were passed on so quickly. So when Del walked into the classroom, all the kids were shocked. The kids next to him shift ed their desks away. “What’s your problem?” Del asked. “I don’t want you to attack me,” one kid said. Some laughed. “Yeah, I might,” said Del. I could tell he was joking, but many kids thought he admitted he did beat up someone.
During recess(课间休息), Del tried to join the kickball game. “Neither team wants you,” one of the players said. “Why?” Del asked, looking confused. “I always play with you guys.” They ignored him and went on playing. Del sat by himself while the rest of the school enjoyed their recess away from him. Del looked lonely and sad, much different from before. I started to feel sorry for him.
Later that day, I learned what really happened. The kid was Del’s little brother and he was crying because their mother fell ill and was sent to hospital. I felt even sorrier for what I said before. I started a rumor(谣言).

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last weekend, my father and I had a heated argument that left both of us deeply hurt. It all began when I gathered the courage to tell him my decision to quit the school basketball team. I found it hard to deal with lots of schoolwork, endless tasks, and the physically-demanding daily training sessions. The pressure was too heavy, and I felt like I was about to break down.
However, my father couldn’t see things from my point of view. In his eyes, the basketball team was a golden opportunity for me to build my strength, character, and teamwork skills. He thought I was being a quitter, giving up easily just because of a little hardship.
Our voices rose higher and higher as we tried to defend our own views. Words that were better left unsaid were thrown back and forth. In the heat of the moment, I even accused him of not caring about my feelings. In the end, I lost my temper, stormed out of the house, and shut the door behind me heavily, leaving my father standing there in a state of shock.
That night, I turned in my bed, the argument replaying in my mind like a broken record. I stared at the ceiling, the moonlight streaming in through the curtains, casting a dim (昏暗的) light in the room. I kept thinking about the disappointed look on my father’s face. I knew he had high hopes for me, always dreaming that I could achieve great things. But at that moment, I just couldn’t take the pressure anymore. I felt so confused and sad, not knowing how to bridge the gap that had suddenly opened between us. I regretted my hasty (草率的) words and wondered if our relationship could ever be the same again.

My family just moved here from St. Louis. It was my first day at a new high school and the very day of soccer tryouts (选拔赛). Soccer is my life, played soccer, went to soccer games, and watched soccer on television with Mom and Dad. They even got me a magazine about soccer.
We left very early in the morning, planning to be at our new home before classes began. If everything had gone perfectly, there would have been time for me to find my new classes, meet people, and even warm up before the tryouts.
However, while we were driving to my new home, our car suddenly stopped working on the highway under the hot sun. We waited anxiously for two hours for a rescue, only to spend another two hours arranging for a rental car. The whole time, my heart was pounding with worry, afraid that I would miss the tryouts.
Finally, we arrived at the new school. The moment I got out of the cat, I rushed towards the headmaster’s office to report, out of breath. “Oh, Tina I think you’re too late for the tryouts. Coach Turner said they’d end at 3 pm,” said Headmaster Morgan. She glanced up at the clock and shook her head, “They’re almost finished.” Feeling defeated, I bit my lower lip and held back tears. All of a sudden, I saw the latest soccer magazine in my backpack. At that moment, my favorite words from the magazine rang in my head good player never gives up, even when the game seems lost.”

The oak tree had once been Lucy and Emily’s secret place, but they hadn’t met for a long time. One day, Lucy went early to save a seat in the third row—their favorite spot since fifth grade for the principal’s speech in the lecture hall. The stage lights kept dimming and brightening as students walked around, but Emily was still not here.
“Hey, Lucy! Over here!” A familiar voice made her turn. Her breath stopped for a moment. There was Emily, waving from the other side of the aisle. She was with three girls from the volleyball team. Their sharp laughs cut through the noise. One girl flipped her shiny hair and said something. Emily laughed loudly, bending over dramatically.
The principal started his lecture for the senior one students, but Lucy couldn’t pay attention. She kept looking at the empty seat next to her. The empty seat seemed to be laughing at her.
During the break, Lucy found Emily near the water fountain. “You promised,” she said, her throat feeling hot. “Do you remember how we used to always watch various performances together before high school?”
Emily moved from side to side, not looking at Lucy’s eyes. “Look, those girls asked me to sit with them. I didn’t want to be impolite.”
“Since when do you care about being impolite to me?” Lucy said before she could think.
Emily’s face turned red. “Maybe I’m tired of doing the same boring things! They’re going to the new milk tea store after this. But you wouldn’t get it.”
The bell rang for the show to start again. When Emily turned to leave, Lucy grabbed her wrist.” Please. Let’s just talk...”
“You’re always following me around!” Emily pulled her arm away. “God, you’re so…clingy (粘人的).”
Lucy stood still as Emily disappeared into the crowd. She took out her phone and looked at their last chat, full of heart emojis. Slowly, she typed: “When did we become strangers?”
Eventually, she didn’t send this text message.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When my little brother Tom turned five, our lives changed forever. One rainy night, his legs stopped working. At first, we thought he just slept in a funny way. But the next morning, he still couldn’t move them. That day started our family’s three years of hospital visits and many questions. Mom carried Tom everywhere in an old blue backpack. Our old dog Bingo followed her everywhere, as if understanding something was wrong.
For the first few weeks, Tom could move slowly if he held onto walls. But by Christmas, even sitting made him shake. Doctors used big words we didn’t understand and took lots of blood. Finally, they said, “His legs might never work again.” That night, I watched Dad hit the kitchen wall hard. His fists made marks that are still there today.
What surprised everyone was Tom himself. He cried when he saw needles, but he smiled and waved at the nurses. “Look, I’m a kangaroo baby!” he said from Mom’s backpack. The doctors laughed. His favorite game was “Super Tom.” He would throw his arms out like he was flying while Mom carried him with Bingo jumping.
The hardest moment came on my birthday. Mom was cutting cake when Tom spilled juice on his pants. “I’ ll clean it!” he said, sliding off his chair. His legs gave out right away. Mom ran to help, and he whispered, “Sorry that I ruined your party.” That night, I heard her crying in the laundry room. Bingo sat beside her as if to comfort her.
But Tom never gave up. One afternoon, he pulled Mom’s sleeve while she was washing dishes. “Watch this!” he said. He leaned against the fridge and stood for five seconds before falling into a pile of towels. Mom cried as she hugged him. “I’ll run to the park one day!” he promised, even though his legs shook like jelly (果冻). After hearing what he said, I thought it’s time that I should do something for him.

Liang Li had just transferred (转学) to a new high school in a big city. Everything felt unfamiliar- the school layout, the teachers, the students with their established groups, and even the canteen food. The first few days were hard. He spent most breaks alone in the classroom, pretending to read, but he was absent-mind. The students were polite, but he felt invisible, as if a wall separated him from them.
One afternoon, while walking through the school grounds, he saw a group of classmates trying to organize a soccer game. One boy, Zhang Tao, was struggling to carry a ball and cones, trying to set up the field by himself. Without thinking, Liang Li walked over and offered to help. Zhang Tao smiled, relieved. “Thanks! You can join us if you want. We need one more player.”
Liang Li hesitated. He had never been good at soccer and wasn't sure he would fit in with these athletic students. “I’m not good at soccer,” he said awkwardly. But Zhang Tao shrugged. “It’s not about being good. We just want everyone to have fun.”
Encouraged, Liang Li decided to join. Though he felt clumsy (笨拙的) at first, the others were friendly and patient. They joked, helped him understand the rules, and cheered when he made progress. Liang Li began to enjoy the game and, for the first time in days, felt a sense of belonging. After the game, Zhang Tao clapped him on the back and said, “You did great for your first time! ”
The next few days, Liang Li looked forward to the soccer games. He became a regular member of the group, his skills improving. But more importantly, he started forming connections with his classmates, laughing and joking with them.

Anne, a hardworking senior student, always took pride in doing her own work. One rainy afternoon while she was browsing at the local bookstore, a colorful magazine about climate change attracted her attention. As she was looking through the pages, one particular article stood out. Its writing was so clear, powerful and well-organized that she immediately decided to buy the magazine, thinking it might provide helpful references (参考) for future school projects.
When the deadline for her English essay arrived, Anne found herself completely unprepared. The topic of the composition “Environmental Protection Today” seemed quite difficult. After staring at a blank page for nearly an hour, her frustration (沮丧) growing with each passing minute, she suddenly remembered the magazine. With shaky hands, she pulled it out from her desk drawer and began copying several key paragraphs, changing just a few words here and there to make it seem different. “It’s just for reference.” she thought to herself nervously, but deep down she knew it was wrong.
The next week, Mrs. White held up Anne’s essay to the whole class. “This is an outstanding essay!” the teacher said excitedly. Anne’s heart beat fast as she heard words like “original thinking” and “excellent analysis”. Each compliment (赞美) made her feel more ashamed. Then came the worst part-Mrs. White wanted to send Anne’s essay in an important writing competition.
Anne imagined all the possibilities. The magazine wasn’t well-known, so perhaps no one would ever notice the copied sections. But even if no one knew it, could she keep this secret in her heart?
At lunch in the crowded cafeteria, her best friend Sarah rushed over and hugged her tightly. “I just heard about your essay! I’m so proud of you!” Sarah shouted excitedly, her eyes shining with true admiration. Seeing how Sarah believed in her writing talent so much, Anne suddenly realized that she wasn’t just lying to her teacher — she was lying to everyone who trusted her.

The school’s annual talent show was only two weeks away, and Peter’s hands got sweaty just thinking about it. Mr. Thompson, his English teacher, had encouraged him to enter the speech contest. “Your pronunciation is very good,” Mr. Thompson had said, patting him on the shoulder. But Peter knew the truth—he often forgot his lines (台词) when he spoke in public or when he was nervous.
Every afternoon after class, Peter stayed in the empty classroom, practicing alone. He marked his lines with colored pens and spoke the lines to the silent walls. Sometimes he pretended Mr. Thompson was sitting in the front row, nodding approvingly.
The big day finally arrived. Peter’s legs were shaking as he waited on the backstage. Through the curtains, he saw the sea of faces in the hall. Suddenly, a staff member rushed in. “We need to cut two minutes from each speech!” Peter’s heart sank—his carefully timed lines now had a gaping hole. He didn’t know what contents should be cut off.
He froze there. Just at that time, Mr. Thompson appeared beside him. “Think of it as a chance to adapt to the change,” the teacher said softly. “If you don’t know what to talk about, you can TELL YOUR STORY.” But Peter’s mind went blank. When his name was called, he stumbled (跌跌撞撞) onto the stage, microphone trembling (颤抖) in his hand.
The first sentence came out shakily. Then disaster. Peter forgot all his lines. The audience shifted in their seats and waited for his next sentence. With so many eyes fixed on him, his face went red and his throat tightened. He wanted to run from the stage.

At the beginning of this term, I found a new student in my class named Ainne Olar, who is 16 years old. She was quiet, always having lunch alone. From her parents, I learned that Ainne was born in Japan and spent most of her childhood there, and then the family moved in Canada. It wasn’t as easy as she thought. She had to learn and speak a new language to be able to communicate with other people. When at school, she tended to be alone. She usually didn’t talk to people. In class, she was not active , and always chose to shut her mouth. She didn’t join any clubs or after-school activities for a little while even though the teachers and her mom were always encouraging her.
At first, I thought maybe she was just a little shy like me when I first moved to Canada. At that time, it also wasn’t as easy as I thought, but I’ve made it until where I am now. So I had the confidence to encourage Ainne to join us.
In one class, I invited Ainne to make a short presentation. But she just stood up, speechless. Then she looked down, color rising on her face. The next class, we had a P. E. lesson in the gym. But she still didn’t join in it, just watching everyone play. Learning that she was fond of sports and was actually a very athletic and energetic person, I felt the urge to do something to help her melt into us. All these thoughts came to my head and pushed me to sit aside Ainne.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下四川泸州市·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We love Sheba, our neighbor the Williams’ dog, as if she were our own. She and our dog Dax grew up together as best friends. Anytime the Williams went out of town, we had the honor of watching Sheba in our home. She fit in like part of the family, and her comfort here was obvious.
Over the years, we specially told the Williams that if they needed to find a new home for Sheba, we would adopt her. We were joking but serious.
The day came when they had to move. Mr. William had been out of work and had to leave the area for a job in his field. They searched carefully for a place that would allow Sheba in, but without result. Finally, they were forced to move to a pet-free apartment. Of course, as soon as he knew Sheba wouldn’t be able to go with them, Mr. William gave us the first option to take her.
However, things had changed dramatically for us. Dax had passed away, and his death had hit me hard, and Sheba was twelve — elderly for her breed (品种). Just the thought of experiencing another loss like that within the next few years was too much for me. Also, our new young dog wasn’t willing to share her space. Not to mention, our new cat was frightened of Sheba.
We told Mr. William we would need to think it over. Although he was very understanding, I started feeling guilty about our hesitation. I felt as if we had broken a promise to a dear friend, but we were just in no position to keep Sheba for good.
To ease my guilt, I offered to find a new home for Sheba. So I posted on my social media account, seeking someone who might be interested in adopting Sheba. I knew the chance was very small, but I was determined to make every effort to honor our promise. Luckily for us, my former schoolmate Henry noticed my post and e-mailed me, asking to visit Sheba.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高一下四川成都市树德中学·期末)
阅读下列材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My dog, Molly, ran after me as I walked to my car that fall morning. I had had her only a couple of weeks, but we had become nearly inseparable. I’d gone through heart surgery a few months back. I figured taking care of a dog would keep me active. So I went to the local animal-rescue center. The little dog shaking slightly in a cage caught my eye right away. I could tell she longed to be picked up and hugged.
I went to talk to the shelter worker. “She just came in,” the woman told me. “Her name is Molly.” The worker opened Molly’s cage and let me pick her up. I stroked her silky fur and she stopped shaking. I filled out the paperwork and took Molly home.
That fall morning last year I decided to take Molly with me for shopping. I opened the door. “Come on, Molly. Let’s go.” She jumped into the car and settled down on the passenger seat. I got behind the wheel and started the car.
We live in a remote area up in the hills outside San Rafael, California. You have to drive up the mountain in low gear (低速挡) to get to our driveway, which is barely wide enough for one car and ends at a steep valley.
I twisted around and backed up slowly. Just then, a flash of sunlight blinded me. I put my hand up to shield my eyes. “Oh, no! The edge!” I shouted. The car slipped in the soft soil, and rolled. I fell inside the car as it turned over down the valley. The car rolled faster. Four, five, six rolls until I heard a horrible crunch. We landed upside down. I looked over to find Molly. She was still in the passenger seat and, thankfully, she was okay.
“Sorry, girl,” I gasped. Something was wrong with my left leg. I grabbed my cell phone but just as I had feared, I couldn’t get a signal. Now what? There was a hole in the driver’s side rear window. It was small, but just maybe ...
I gently put Molly’s body through the hole. “Go, Molly, find help,” I urged, my voice weak. She looked back at me for a moment, as if to assure me she understood, then disappeared into the thick bushes. I was left alone in the overturned car, the pain in my leg intensifying. The valley was quiet, and I could only hear the faint sound of water trickling nearby. Time seemed to stand still as I waited, praying for Molly to succeed. After what seemed for ages, I heard a voice.

Passage 1
Paragraph 1:
The man was surprised. He was touched by Ashwin’s conscience and said he wanted to meet his family. Ashwin took the man home and introduced him to his family. The man looked at the poor condition of Ashwin’s house and his children and told Ashwin that he would like to help his family. Ashwin refused, but the man was insistent and said, “I would like to take the responsibility for educating your children.” Ashwin could not refuse the assistance since he wanted the children to become someone important. He agreed to send them to the city.
Paragraph 2:
Ashwin’s children then got educated and did well. Each vacation they went home to visit their parents. Ashwin often reminded them, “Never do anything at the cost of someone else.” The children remembered the advice and followed it. Years later, they became successful. When the poor man’s children had children of their own, they often told them the story about the small bag with 50 gold coins.
Passage 2
Paragraph 1:
The school bus stopped exactly opposite the spot where the key had fallen. I quickly picked up the key, ran back to the old lady waiting by the side of the road and returned the key to her. Although I realized the bus driver got angry at my reckless action in a way, the school children who were watching me from the bus let out a cheer and clapped, which made me feel proud.
Paragraph 2:
As I turned to continue my hurried walk, the old lady pulled me by my hand. She was so grateful and gave me a big and warm hug, saying “I don’t know how to thank you and this is all I have to give you.” Hearing her words, I felt happy that I had given a hand to this old lady. I hope the school children who were watching me and cheering would help those in need when their turn comes in life. Meanwhile, I understood a small act of kindness can make a great difference to others.
Passage 3
After lunch, I was on my own when, out of nowhere, there’s Mr. Jackson. As I walked toward the barn, I thought about how he might still be upset with me for the goat incident, which happened because I accidentally unlatched the gate, letting the goats wander into his garden and devour everything in sight. Despite this, I couldn’t help but feel a bit relieved that he was the first person I saw. I hoped that he had forgiven me for the chaos that I had unintentionally caused.
Instead, Mr. Jackson yelled, “Great to see you here, Alex! I need your help with a lamb’s birth.” Surprised by his enthusiasm, I wondered if he had forgotten about the damage that I had caused or if he genuinely needed assistance. As I approached him, I noticed the urgency in his eyes, which suggested that he really did require my help. Since I had always been good with technology and coding, assisting with something as organic as helping a lamb be born felt like a completely new challenge, one that I was unexpectedly eager to take on, despite my initial reluctance to be at the farm. The experience of helping bring a new life into the world was both challenging and rewarding, and it helped ease some of the tension between Mr. Jackson and me.
Passage 4
When he turned around, he saw smoke from the Christmas tree. His parents had forgotten to put out some candles, which had caught the tree’s back and the curtains on fire. The fire was spreading fast. “Mum! Dad! There’s a fire in our house!” he shouted as he rushed upstairs and woke up his sisters. Milly woke up and ran downstairs with him, but Rosie was asleep, so he carried her in his arms. He then put his sisters in the truck and rushed to his parents’ room. “What’s wrong, Jase?” his mum asked. “Wait, what’s that smoke?”
“There’s a fire!” Jase shouted. The couple took the kids and rushed out of the house. They called 911, and firefighters arrived on the scene. Fortunately, Jase discovered it in time and avoided a terrible fire accident. One of the firefighters patted Jase’s shoulder and said, “Good job!” Jase smiled and said confidently, “I will become a real superhero like you in the future.” And today, Jase has helped several families from such events, and he’s indeed a superhero, a firefighter.

Passage 1
To my surprise, no one followed me and I was the only one in the classroom standing. I lowered my head, alone and filled with fear. After looking around for a while, Mrs. Hill walked towards me. Strangely, she asked in a soft voice, “Why did you dare to stand up?” I said I wanted to be honest and that I realized what I had done was wrong. Unexpectedly, Mrs. Hill was quite amazed by my answer and praised me for that. Then she returned to the front of the classroom and explained why we should be honest.
With Mrs. Hill’s encouragement, another student stood up. Then more students followed until about half of the students stood up. Seeing it, Mrs. Hill praised us for our courage. Then, she asked us to sit down. We continued reading books. After we finished, Mrs. Hill reminded us to remember that everyone should be responsible for his behaviour. We all agreed with her. And I was happy that in a way I set a good example to my classmates.
Passage 2
At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. Not wanting him to feel left out, I walked over and sat down beside him. “Hey Germy,” he said. “My name is Jamie.” I replied. I wanted to apologize for starting that rumor but I was too ashamed to say it out loud. “Del, do you want to play kickball with us?” I asked instead. He looked surprised but happy at the same time. After a moment of silence, he nodded his head.
Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over. I stood up and shouted to the other kids, “Guys, come here! Let’s play kickball together!” Some of them hesitated, but they eventually joined us. Del was smiling again and so were we. As we played, I realized that Del wasn’t as bad as I thought. He was just a normal kid who wanted to have fun and be accepted by others. From then on, whenever someone tried to start a rumor about him, I would stand up for him and tell them the truth. We became good friends.
Passage 3
The next morning, I decided to write a letter to my father. Difficult as it was for me, I first apologized for my rude behavior. Sitting at my desk, tears blurred my words as I explained how stressed I was under the heavy load of study and training. I described sleepless nights drowning in textbooks and aching muscles from relentless drills, admitting I feared failing both academically and as his son. Hoping to clear the misunderstandings, I put the letter on his desk before leaving for school. My hands shook — would this help him understand, or deepen the gap between us?
When I returned home that evening, I found my father waiting for me. His eyes were gentle, lacking the anger from yesterday. He walked towards me, holding my letter. “I’m sorry for pushing you too hard” he began, then stopped. Slowly, he reached out and touched my shoulder. We hugged each other tightly, both of us knowing that the gap between us was bridged at that moment. Finally, we agreed I’d take a break from basketball — not quit forever. From that day forward, we learned to communicate openly and respect each other’s choices, which laid a much stronger foundation for our father-son bond.
Passage 4
“I’m so sorry, but our car broke down,” I explained to the headmaster. I know I’m late, but I’ve been playing soccer my whole life. “This means everything to me. Please give me a chance to show what I can do.” I stared at the headmaster and begged, holding onto a tiny hope. Headmaster Morgan looked hesitant at first, her brows furrowed. But seeing the determination in my eyes, she let out a sigh and picked up the phone. “Coach Turner? There’s a determined girl here.” My heart raced as Headmaster Morgan finally pointed outside. “Go to the field quickly!”
“Three minutes,” Coach Turner said, rolling a soccer ball toward me. Without hesitation, I sprang into action. The wind rushed past my ears, and I could only hear the intense beating of my own heart. Sweat dripped down my neck as three defenders charged. I passed right, moved left, and then shot with my left foot. Finally, the ball flew over the goalkeeper’s hands, and went into the net. The coach’s eyes widened in surprise. I held my breath, waiting for his decision. “Welcome to the team,” Coach Turner announced, and I couldn’t help breaking into a huge smile. I knew it was my love for soccer that kept me from giving up.

Passage 1
Several days later, Lucy came across a picture of Emily and her. It was tucked in the back of her math notebook—taken three years ago, their faces smudged with dirt from digging for “treasure.” Emily’s braces glinted as she laughed happily, one hand gripping Lucy’s wrist to keep her from tripping over a root. They’d carved their initials into the trunk that day, a messy “L + E” surrounded by tiny hearts. Lucy traced the photo’s edge, her thumb pausing on Emily’s grinning mouth. She typed slowly: “The oak tree. 4 p.m. Please.”
Under the oak tree, Lucy nervously waited. The wind carried the scent of pine, just like when they’d hidden there to share stolen cookies. Footsteps crunched on leaves. Emily stood at the edge of the shade, a paper bag in her hand. “Found this,” she said, voice small, pulling out a crumpled candy wrapper. “I… I missed this.” Her finger brushed the “L + E” carving. Lucy’s eyes blurred. “Me too,” she whispered movedly. Emily stepped closer, and the oak tree’s branches rustled, as if clapping.

Passage 1
So I used Mom’s clothesline and cushions to offer help in our backyard. I tied the clothesline between two trees and placed the cushions along the ground. At first, Tom’s legs trembled as he inched forward, sweat on his forehead. Our old dog Bingo barked to cheer him on. It was slow work. Tom would take half a step before falling onto the cushions. But he never complained. “I’ll run to the park one day!” he said, his eyes full of hope and determination. Every day we practiced — rain or shine — with the clothesline swaying like a bridge to his courage.
One sunny afternoon, something amazing happened. Tom let go of the rope mid-step, his legs shaking but his eyes steady. Then, to our shock, he took two more steps before falling into Mom’s arms. My family cheered, including Bingo. “I made it!” Tom shouted with pride. From that day on, Tom could walk further with a little help. By his next birthday, we celebrated with a big cake and the marks Dad made on the kitchen wall years ago seemed to fade that day — replaced by the sight of Tom, our “Super Tom.” We realized even the hardest challenges could be overcome with perseverance and determination.
Passage 2
As the match got started, Liang Li ran towards the ball with determination. His heart was pounding in his chest, but he pushed aside his nervousness and focused on the game. He managed to pass the ball to a teammate, who quickly scored a goal. The team cheered, and Liang Li couldn’t help but smile. He wasn’t the best player, but he felt like an important part of the team. The match was intense, but they played with teamwork and spirit. At the end of the game, they won by a narrow margin.
Later that afternoon, Liang Li sat with his teammates under a tree, laughing and sharing snacks. Zhang Tao handed him a bottle of water and gave him a pat on the back. “You did great today!” he said. Liang Li smiled, feeling a sense of belonging that he had never felt before. Thanks to his new friends and their encouragement, he was no longer the lonely new student. The experience had not only brought him closer to his teammates but had also given him the confidence to embrace new challenges.
Passage 3
After a few minutes of silence, she whispered to Sarah, “I need to tell you something.” Her voice trembled as she admitted copying parts of the essay, her cheeks turning red with shame. Sarah’s eyes widened in surprise at first, but then she gave Anne’s shoulder a comforting pat. “It takes courage to admit mistakes,” Sarah said firmly. “Let’s go to tell Mrs. White together.” With Sarah’s support, Anne carefully wrote a sincere apology letter, explaining exactly what she had done wrong and promising to make up for it with her own hard work.
Sarah held Anne’s hand tightly as they walked towards Mrs. White’s office. Anne’s palms were sweaty and her heart raced, but she kept walking. When Mrs. White read the letter, her serious expression gradually softened. “I appreciate your honesty,” she said finally. “Everyone makes mistakes, but only brave people correct them.” That evening, Anne stayed up late rewriting her essay completely on her own. Though the new version wasn’t as perfect as the copied one, it was truly hers. As she handed it in the next day, Anne realized that being honest might be difficult, but it always leaves you feeling lighter and prouder.

Passage 1
Just then, he noticed Mr. Thompson looking at him full of expectation. Peter took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. He remembered Mr. Thompson’s advice to tell his own story. So, he began to talk about how he had always been afraid of speaking in public, but how his teacher’s encouragement had given him the courage to try. He spoke about the countless hours he had spent practicing alone in the classroom and how much he wanted to overcome his fear. As he spoke, he felt his confidence growing.
When he finished his speech, a great round of applause filled the hall. Peter looked out at the audience and saw smiles and nods of approval. He felt a wave of relief and pride wash over him. He had done it! He had faced his fear and shared his story with everyone. Mr. Thompson came backstage to congratulate him. “You did great, Peter,” he said. “You adapted to the situation and showed everyone your true self. That’s what public speaking is all about.” Peter smiled, knowing that he had learned a valuable lesson about facing challenges and being true to himself.
Passage 2
“Hello, Ainne, would you like to join us playing basketball?” I smiled. Knowing Ainne played well, I tried to persuade her to be brave. However, she shook her head and smiled shyly. Then I told her I was a new comer once and could understand how she was feeling. I hoped she could step out of the comfort zone and be more active. She was moved and told me the reason why she always chose to shut her mouth was that she was not very confident to speak English in front of others. I encouraged her to seize every chance to practice it.
The next day, Ainne volunteered to come to the platform to make a presentation. “Hello, boys and girls, I’m Ainne from Japan. Before my presentation, I’d like to express my thanks to you all. Especially Ms. Lee.” Then she turned to me, with a bright smile spreading on her face. How much she longed to share experiences with her classmates. Getting widely recognized, Ainne was excited with tears. Later, she was a participant in every discussion in class and joined an after-school sports club with new friends.

Passage 1
The following day, Henry and his son arrived as promised. They were immediately drawn to Sheba’s gentle and friendly nature. Henry’s son was especially excited, stroking Sheba’s fur and playing with her. Henry told me that they had always wanted a dog, and after seeing my post, they felt it was fate. They spent a long time interacting with Sheba, and it was clear that a bond was forming. I watched them, relieved that Sheba had found a potential new home.
As they got in the car, Henry allowed me to give Sheba a hug before they left. I held Sheba tightly, whispering words of comfort and telling her that she was going to a wonderful new family. Sheba seemed to sense the situation and licked my face gently. I waved goodbye as the car drove away, feeling a mix of sadness and happiness. Sad because I would miss her, but happy that she was going to a place where she would be loved and cared for. I knew that this was the best outcome for Sheba, and I was grateful to Henry and his family for giving her a new home.
Passage 2
The voice was from Robin, my neighbor. “I heard Molly’s desperate barks and knew something was wrong,” he explained breathlessly, his hands trembling as he helped me out of the wrecked car. Molly pressed herself against my side, her tail wagging weakly, as if reassuring me that everything was all right. In the ambulance, the medical workers marveled at Molly’s intelligence. “She’s truly a hero,” one of them said. After I recovered, Molly and I continued our happy life. From then on, I became more cautious when driving, and cherished every moment with my brave and loyal friend even more.

I hope the school children who were watching me and cheering would help those in need when their turn comes in life. Meanwhile, I understood a small act of kindness can make a great difference to others.

【答案】

【答案】 When he turned around, he saw smoke from the Christmas tree.

阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】
To my surprise, no one followed me and I was the only one in the class room standing.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. Not wanting him to feel left out, I walked over and sat down beside him. “Hey Germy,” he said. “My name is Jamie.” I replied. I wanted to apologize for starting that rumor about him, but I was too ashamed to say it out loudly.
Let’s play kickball together! ” Some of them hesitated, but they eventually joined us. Del was smiling again and so were we. As we played, I realized that Del wasn’t as bad as I thought he was. He was just a normal kid who wanted to have fun and be accepted by others. From then on, whenever someone tried to start a rumor about him, I would stand up for him and tell them the truth about Del. We became good friends, and I learned an important lesson about judging people based on rumors.

【答案】参考范文
The next morning. I decided to write a letter to my father.

【答案】One possible version:
“I m so sorry, but our car broke down”, I explained to the headmaster.

【答案】
Several days later, Lucy came across a picture of Emily and her. It was tucked in the back of her math notebook—taken under the oak tree three years ago, their faces smudged with dirt from digging for “treasure.” Emily’s braces glinted as she laughed happily, one hand gripping Lucy’s wrist to keep her from tripping over a root.
“Found this,” she said, voice small, pulling out a crumpled candy wrapper—their favorite, from the day the photo was taken. “I… I missed this.” Her finger brushed the “L + E” carving. Lucy’s eyes blurred. “Me too,” she whispered movedly. Emily stepped closer, and the oak tree’s branches rustled, as if clapping.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下四川德阳市高中·期末)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One sunny afternoon, something amazing happened.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
So I used Mom’s clothesline (晾衣绳) and cushions (垫子) to offer help in our backyard.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高一下四川达州市·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。

Sarah held Anne’s hand tightly and walked towards Mrs. White’s office.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】

【答案】 Just then, he noticed Mr. He realized that he didn’t need to stick to the exact lines he had memorized. He could share his true feelings and experiences instead.

阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

The next day, Ainne volunteered to come to the platform to make a presentation.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
“Hello, Ainne, would you like to join us playing basketball?”I smiled.
She tasted the sweet spoils of confidence.

【答案】The following day, Henry and his son arrived as promised.

The voice was from Robin, my neighbor
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】版本一
The voice was from Robin, my neighbor. “I heard Molly’s desperate barks and knew something was wrong,” he explained breathlessly, his hands trembling as he helped me out of the wrecked car. Molly pressed herself against my side, her tail wagging weakly, as if reassuring me that everything was all right. In the ambulance, the medical workers marveled at Molly’s intelligence. “She’s truly a hero,” one of them said, patting Molly’s head. After I recovered, Molly and I continued our happy life. From then on, I became more cautious when driving, and I cherished every moment with my brave and loyal friend even more.
版本二
The voice was from Robin, my neighbor. “Molly wouldn’t leave my doorstep until I followed,” he said, his eyes wide with disbelief. As he carefully lifted me onto a makeshift stretcher, Molly stayed close, whining softly. At the hospital, doctors worked quickly on my broken leg. Meanwhile, Robin recalled how Molly had scratched at his door and led him straight to the accident site. Grateful tears filled my eyes. From that day forward, Molly became not just a pet, but a life -saving companion I’d always cherish.
版本三
The voice was from Robin, my neighbor. “Molly led me here!” he shouted, his voice echoing through the valley. Soon, his worried face appeared at the broken window. With his help, I was carefully pulled out of the car. Molly jumped around us, barking joyfully. On the way to the hospital, Robin told me Molly had rushed to his house and barked continuously until he followed her. Thanks to my brave dog, I got timely treatment. From then on, our bond grew even stronger.
