Mary began to like her life here. Every morning, she went outside after breakfast and spent most of the day in the grounds. The cold wind brought pink to her face. And she finished all of her food each evening. She was much healthier. After dinner, she liked sitting near the fire and talking to Martha.
“Why does Mr. Craven hate the locked garden?” Mary asked once.
“It was Mrs. Craven’s garden and she loved it. She looked after the flowers together with Mr. Craven. No gardeners were allowed in.”
“But what happened?” Mary asked.
“There was an old tree in the garden with a branch (树枝) like a seat. Mrs. Craven often sat there, reading and talking. One day, the branch broke and she fell down. She was badly hurt and died soon. Mr. Craven locked the garden and never talked about it.”
Mary seldom felt sorry for anyone, but now she understood how sad her uncle must be.
The wind roared (咆哮) around the house, and the doors and windows banged (砰砰作响). Mary listened, and through the noise she thought that she heard a child crying.
“Can you hear someone crying?” she asked Martha.
Martha seemed to have butterflies in her stomach. “No,” she answered. “It’s only the wind or the servant who works in the kitchen. She’s got a toothache. Perhaps she’s crying. I’m going to check if she needs any help.” After the words, Martha left the room quickly.
When Martha left her alone, Mary decided to explore (探索) the house. She went quietly along corridors (走廊) and up and down stairs. In the silence of the house, she heard again the sound of a child crying. She stopped to listen at a door, but then another door opened and Mrs. Medlock came out. “What are you doing here?” she said, and she took Mary by the arm and pulled her away. “Get back to your room at once.”

27.根据第四段“There are also volunteers in our community. They are very happy to help the elders. They chat with them...”

30.根据文章第三段London, the UK部分中“The London Subway or the Tube was opened in 1863.”
31.对比四段内容:Beijing提到“opened in 1969”;Stockholm提到“now 76 years old”;London提到“opened in 1863”;New York提到“opened in 1904”。

① When you hear the word “home”, you may think of the place you are living in. Maybe it is a flat or a two-floor town house. Maybe it is made of wood or stone. You may think houses are only normal (普通的) buildings, but some houses around the world are quite special!
② The Bedouin people of the Middle East and North Africa live in interesting homes. The Bedouin people live in the desert (沙漠), and they move around without staying in one place very long. So, they live in tents that are made of animal hair. The tents are easy to put up and take down when they move from place to place. In a similar way, some people of the Gobi Desert also live in tents. These tents, called yurts (蒙古包), are also made of animal hair, but not like square Bedouin tents, the yurts are round (圆形的).
③ Before people made the first tents, they lived in caves (洞穴). Some people in the south of Spain live in caves today too! They call these cave homes “cuebas”. These caves keep the house cool during the summer and warm during the winter.
④ Another type of home is the “igloo” used by the Inuit people of Canada and Greenland. Igloos are usually made of ice and snow. The igloo protects the people from the wind as well as keeps them warm. In fact, the temperature (温度) inside an igloo can even go up to 16℃.
⑤ The Bagabao people of the Philippines used to (过去常常) live in what may be a childhood dream for some—a treehouse! These treehouses were built so that the people could watch for enemies (敌人) and protect themselves from dangerous animals. Also, the people could stay cool in their treehouses during the hot summer season. Today, the Bagabao people don’t live in these treehouses anymore, but they still use places like them for resting.
⑥ If you ever get the chance (机会), be sure to learn about different homes of different cultures!
33.Which is NOT true about the Bedouin tents and the yurts?

35.Where did the Bagabao people of the Philippines use to live?

A. B. C. D.

33.第2段中提到“but not like square Bedouin tents, the yurts are round”。
34.第4段中提到“The igloo protects the people from the wind as well as keeps them warm.”
35.第5段中提到“The Bagabao people of the Philippines used to live in... a treehouse!”
