Background

My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It was written in 1997 by the British writer J.K. Rowling. The book became popular globally right after it came out—top-selling book in many countries and later turned into a super popular movie series that millions of people love.
The main character is Harry Potter, a lonely orphan who lives with his mean aunt, uncle and cousin. On his 11th birthday, he finds out he’s a wizard and gets a letter to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At Hogwarts, he makes two good friends—Ron and Hermione. He also learns that his parents were killed by an evil wizard named Voldemort. Later, Harry and his friends try to protect the Philosopher’s Stone (a magic stone that can make people live forever) from Voldemort, who wants to use it to come back.
This book has taught me that friendship and courage are really important. It also shows that small kind acts can make a big difference. As Dumbledore (the headmaster of Hogwarts) says, “It takes a lot of courage to stand up to your enemies, but even more to stand up to your friends.” I’ve read this book twice, but I still think it’s great. If you like magical, fun stories with heart, I totally recommend Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
