Robotic dogs are helping carry waste at Mount Taishan in Tai’an, Shandong Province. This plan connects new technology with environmental protection to solve waste problems at this popular natural wonder.
Mount Taishan welcomes millions of visitors each year and the visitors produce tons of waste. It is difficult to clean up the waste. After exploring different ways, the staff (员工) found robot helpers were a good choice.
The robotic dog has four legs and a shelf that can carry 30 to 40 kilograms of waste. Some tests were done at different parts of the mountain earlier. The robotic dogs were tested on their climbing abilities, how long they could work, and what to do with emergencies on the mountain.
Results showed that the robotic dogs could climb from the foot to the top within two hours. They could work for four to six hours with a full charge (电量) and perform well on most parts of the mountain, which meant they could help with waste transportation and might take the place of cleaners.
Tourists show a great interest in the robotic dogs. “I took a photo with one robotic dog and found it amazing. I hope in the future they might even carry people up the mountain,” a tourist said.
