The Mojave Desert in July is unforgiving.I learned this the hard way during a solo hiking trip that nearly cost me my life.I had planned a three-day trek, but on the second day,I made a critical error.Trusting a poorly marked trail,I veered off course.By noon, with the sun blazing overhead,I was lost.Worse still,my water bottle was nearly empty.
Panic set in.I tried retracing my steps, but the landscape all looked the same—endless sand, rock, and skeletal Joshua trees. My mouth felt like cotton.I stumbled behind a large rock for shade,my mind racing with terrifying thoughts.Hours passed—or maybe minutes.Just as despair began to overwhelm me,I heard a sound;an engine.I crawled to the top of a ridge and saw a dusty pickup truck kicking up sand in the distance.I waved my arms wildly, shouting until my throat burned. The truck stopped, then turned and headed toward me.
The man who stepped out was a Navajo, with weathered skin and kind eyes.He didn't ask questions. He simply handed me a bottle of water and waited while I drank.I gulped greedily, water spilling down my chin.“Easy,"he said softly.“Slowdown.”When I finally caught my breath,I explained my situation. He nodded, then gestured to the truck.“I’m Thomas. My sheep ranch is about an hour from here.Come rest, and I'll drive you back to the trail-head tomorrow."That night, lying on a cot in his modest home,I felt something unexpected:gratitude, but also shame.I had charged into his land,ill-prepared and ignorant, yet he had treated me like family.
The next morning,Thomas drove me back.As I got out,I fumbled for words to thank him.He placed a hand on my shoulder."The desert provides for those who respect it.Next time, come with respect.”I've returned to the Mojave many times since, always better prepared. But more importantly,I've carried his lesson with me:true generosity expects nothing in return. It simply gives, like rain to thirsty ground.
24.What caused the author to get lost in the desert?
A.He ran out of water too quickly. B.He followed a confusing trail.
C.He ignored the advice of locals. D.The desert landscape all looked the same.
25.What does the underlined word"skeletal"in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Strong and tall. B.Green and lively.
C.Bare and bone-like. D.Thick and crowded.
26.Why did the author feel“shame”at Thomas's home?
A.He had interrupted his family life.
B.He realized that he was disrespectful to the land.
C.He couldn't properly express his gratitude.
D.He had drunk too much water too quickly.
27.What lesson did the author ultimately learn from the experience?
A.Always carry extra water in the desert.
B.The desert is too dangerous for solo hiking.
C.Navajo people are especially generous to strangers.
D.True kindness is given without expecting anything back.
C
There are more and more sport utility vehicles(SUVs)and similar types of large cars on the streets. These accounted for a huge 63 percent of new car sales in the UK in 2025,up from 12 percent in 2010.Globally,the figure is about 48 percent and shows no sign of coming down.Cars are getting bigger, and that is a problem. It makes sense that larger cars are more dangerous if they run you over.My team found that adults were 44 percent more likely to die if hit by an SUV rather than a normal car.The review also estimated that in the US,10 percent of deaths and serious injuries would be avoided if SUVs were replaced with smaller cars.
Cars are also getting wider—a trend known as “carspreading”. On average, new cars in Europe got half a centimeter wider each year from 2010 to 2025.Some critics argue this is a worrying trend, because there simply isn't enough room on Britain's crowded, often narrow roads or in town centers. There is only so much road space, and more of it being taken up by cars means there is less of it for people cycling or using other modes of transit. We know that if more people were walking and cycling, there would be significant benefits to their health.
The extra size of these cars also contributes to more air pollution. The shift to more electric cars is obviously good news,as it means fewer emissions from exhausts. But even if SUVs are electric, fine particles from tyres and brakes are now major sources of pollution in urban air and are produced both by electric cars and fossil fuel-powered cars.
Cardiff Council in the UK,in October 2025,approved plans to charge the owners of SUVs and larger cars more for residential parking permits. This means the Welsh capital joins some other cities in Germany and France, which charge more to park heavier or bigger vehicles. As well as parking regulations, governments are considering changes to vehicle taxes to encourage smaller cars.
28.What is the trend of cars in the UK?
A.Costing less. B.Becoming larger. C.Selling worse. D.Running faster.
29.What problem does carspreading bring according to the text?
A.It is the main cause of urban air pollution. B.It increases the number of cars.
C.It makes walking safer in cities. D.It reduces road space for cyclists.
30.What can we infer about electric SUVs?
A.They still cause pollution.
B.They are free of tyre pollution.
C.They are better than fossil-fuel cars.
D.They are popular all over the world.
31.What is the purpose of higher parking fees?
A.To limit electric cars. B.To push smaller cars.
C.To raise public money. D.To support car factories.
D
Like giant bones planted in the Earth, clusters of tree trunks, stripped(剥落)clean of bark, are appearing along the Chesapeake Bay.They are ghost forests:the haunting remains of what were once stands of cedar and pine.Since the late 19thcentury,an ever-widening belt of these trees has died along the shore. And they won't be growing back.
These arboreal graveyards are showing up in places where the land slopes gently into the ocean and where salty water increasingly encroaches(侵蚀).Along the United States' east coast, and in pockets of the west coast and elsewhere, saltier soils have killed hundreds of thousands of acres of trees, leaving behind woody skeletons typically surrounded by marsh(沼泽).
What happens next? That depends. As these dead forests transition, some will become marshes that maintain vital ecosystem services, such as buffering against storms and storing carbon.Others may become home to invasive plants or support no plant life at all—and the ecosystem services will be lost.Researchers are working to understand how this growing shift toward marshes and ghost forests will,on balance, affect coastal ecosystems.
Many of the ghost forests are a consequence of sea level rise, says coastal ecologist Keryn Gedan.Yet the transition from living forest to marsh isn't necessarily a tragedy,Gedan says.Marshes are important features of coastal ecosystems and provide many ecosystem benefits. They are habitats for birds and crustaceans. They are also a niche for native salt-tolerant plants, which provide food and shelter for animals.Marshes can also store huge amounts of carbon from the atmosphere.Salt marshes can protect inland ecosystems from storms along the sea, taking the impact of heavy winds and storm surges, protecting the trees beyond.Recent research suggests that wide marshes help to prevent additional ghost forests by stopping some saltwater from sweeping into the forest.
Many ghost forests are expanding. But it still remains unclear how these coastal transitions will play out and whether,as trees die, they will give way to healthy marshes. It takes several decades,so the full impact of these forests’ becoming skeletons remains to be seen."We're about 50 years behind,"says a researcher.
32.Where do ghost forests often appear?
A.In dry desert areas. B.In thick inland forests.
C.On high mountain tops. D.On gentle coastal slopes.
33.What can marshes store from the air?
A.More fresh oxygen. B.Some harmful pollution.
C.Huge amounts of carbon. D.Much clean drinking water.
34.What can we infer about ghost forests?
A.Their future is still unclear. B.Their harm is already known.
C.Their area is becoming smaller. D.Their causes are misunderstood.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.Ghost Forests:Causes and Ecological Fate
B.Ghost Forests:The Solution to Sea Level Rise
C.Ghost Forests:The Silent Victims of Saltwater
D.Ghost Forests:A Rising Threat to Coastal Wildlife

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Are you stuck in a trap of negative thoughts? It's remarkably easy to get caught in a cycle where one worry leads to another. You might receive a slightly critical comment from a coworker, and before you know it,you're convinced you're about to be fired. This pattern of thinking can drain your energy and prevent you from taking positive action.36.______
The first step is to recognize when you're doing it.Pay close attention to your inner voice after a stressful event. If you notice thoughts like "I always mess things up”,stop and actively question them.37._______Ask yourself:Is this thought based on facts or just my feelings? What would I tell a best friend who said this?
38._____Instead of seeing a situation as a total failure, view it as a specific, isolated setback. If you didn't do well on an important exam, don't conclude you're fundamentally“stupid”.A more balanced thought would be,“This test was challenging, and I need to change my study methods.”
Another powerful technique is to shift your focus outward.Engaging in activities that demand your full concentration—like painting or going for a run-can distract you from repetitive worries.39.____Similarly,doing something kind for someone else can also break the cycle by connecting you with the world.
Breaking a deeply rooted mental habit takes time.Don't get discouraged if you fall back into old patterns.40.______Over time, these small, consistent changes will lead to a more positive and resilient mindset.
A.Is it helpful?
B.Practice self-compassion.
C.Is there any real evidence to support this thought?
D.Here is how to break this destructive thought cycle.
E.It forces your mind to focus on the present moment.
F.But with consistent practice, you can rewire your brain.
G.Recognizing these thoughts is crucial, but it's not enough.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The buzz surrounding the annual school talent show was electric, transforming the usually calm hallways into a hive of whispered secrets and practice sessions behind closed classroom doors. While my classmates dreamed of solo spots and standing cheers,I envisioned myself comfortably nestled in the dark auditorium,a silent but supportive spectator. My somewhat peculiar talent—the independent wiggling(摆动)of my ears—was a guaranteed way to amuse my friends at lunchtime, but it was decidedly unfit for the glaring lights of a real stage.
This carefully laid plan was spectacularly derailed by my best friend,Leo.Leo,whose boundless energy and love for mischief were as famous as his heart of gold, saw my"talent"as a source of legendary comedy. One afternoon,I found my name boldly printed on the official participant list near the principal's office. My heart tightened.Next to it,in Leo's unmistakable handwriting, was the description:“Advanced Unconventional Performance”.I confronted him immediately,my voice a mix of betrayal and panic."Relax,Alex! It'll be great!People need to see this,"he insisted.“Trust me.”
The following week was full of anxiety.Every passing day felt like a step closer to public embarrassment. On the night of the show, the auditorium was filled with a buzzing crowd of students, teachers, and proud parents.Peeking through the heavy stage curtains,I watched one incredible act after another.A soaring vocal performance gave me chills,a hip-hop dance crew moved in perfect harmony, and the drama club performed a scene that drew thunderous applause. My own heart, however, was pounding to a mad rhythm of pure terror. When the host finally called my name, echoing“Advanced Unconventional Performance”through the speakers,a wave of nausea(反胃)hit me.The world seemed to slow down as it was my turn to step into the center of that vast, expectant space.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

第四部分
第一节
One possible version:
Learning English Beyond the Classroom
As a high school student,I've discovered that learning English isn't limited to textbooks.
My favorite way to learn English after class is through English songs and movies.By
listening to songs and paying attention to lyrics and watching films with subtitles,I've
picked up lots of everyday expressions and slang.Another effective method is following
English-learning vlogs,where I can learn authentic pronunciation.
Through these activities,I've not only improved my listening and speaking skills but
also gained a deeper understanding of Western culture.More importantly,I've realized that
learning can be fun and relaxing.
So,let's explore the world of English outside the classroom!
第二节
One possible version:
Pushed onto the stage by Leo,I stood frozen under the spotlight,my mind a perfect
blank. The silence stretched on,thick and heavy,as the seconds ticked by like hours.I
could feel every eye on me,every judgment unspoken but obvious. My throat went dry,and
I struggled to draw breath,my chest tight with nervousness. Then I saw Leo,just out of
the light, giving me a thumbs-up.That small gesture was enough to break the spell, and I
felt a flicker of resolve ignite in my chest.
Just at that moment,a desperate, crazy idea began to form.I would embrace the
moment, not fight it.I closed my eyes, let the fear wash over me,and then opened them to
face the crowd. With a playful grin,I launched into my performance, wiggling my ears with
exaggerated precision. The tension broke, and the audience roared with delight. When the
final applause died down,I walked offstage,my head held high.I had not only survived the
spotlight-I had learned to shine in it,in my own unconventional way.
