Every morning at dawn, 78-year-old Maria Garcia walks to the small bookstore at the corner of her neighborhood in Madrid, Spain. The bookstore, called "El Rincón de los Libros" (The Corner of Books), has been her second home for over 50 years. It was opened by her father in 1952, and Maria took over the business after he passed away 20 years ago.
The bookstore is not large, but it is filled with books of all kinds—from classic novels to children’s stories, from history books to poetry collections. Maria knows every book in her store by heart. She can always recommend the perfect book for a customer, whether it’s a teenager looking for a coming-of-age story or an old man wanting to read about the history of his country. "Books are more than just paper and ink," Maria often says. "They are windows to different worlds, and they bring people together."
Over the years, the bookstore has faced many challenges. With the rise of online bookstores and e-books, many small bookstores have closed down. But Maria has kept her store open by making it a community center. She hosts book clubs every Friday evening, where people gather to discuss their favorite books. She also holds storytime for children every Saturday morning, and she often invites local authors to give talks and sign books.
Many people in the neighborhood say that the bookstore is an important part of their lives. "I grew up coming here with my parents," says 32-year-old Laura Perez, a regular customer. "Now I bring my own children here. Maria is like a grandmother to all of us, and her bookstore is a place where we can feel warm and welcome."
Maria has no plans to retire. She says she will keep running the bookstore as long as she can. "This store is my father’s legacy, and it’s my passion," she says with a smile. "I want to keep sharing the joy of reading with everyone who walks through my door."

Malaysia’s durian producers have been asked to register their unique varieties both at home and abroad to better protect their hard work. The call came from the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and an intellectual property lawyer, when The Star asked how to safeguard this popular fruit of the country.
Yusnieza Syarmila Yusoff, Director-General of MyIPO, said more farmer groups, producers and state agencies should think about registering their unique, region-linked durian varieties as Geographical Indication (GI). A GI is a sign that shows a product comes from a specific place, and its quality, reputation or special characteristics are closely related to that place.
In Malaysia, eligible producers, associations or competent authorities can apply for GI registration with MyIPO. “GI registrations make sure that only producers in the designated areas who meet the requirements can use these names,” Yusnieza said. This prevents people outside the region from using or mispresenting these famous Malaysian durian varieties.
She added that GI protection helps real producers build a stronger brand and get higher prices in the market, because consumers recognize the authenticity and special qualities of products from a specific place. So far, four durian varieties have been registered with MyIPO: Musang King, Black Thorn, Balik Pulau and Durian Nyekak. They are among 128 items registered there.
In Malaysia, GI-registered products are legally protected by the Geographical Indications Act 2022. However, to get international protection, they need to be registered separately in other countries. “Although we protect these registered durians at home, they haven’t been registered overseas yet,” Yusnieza said. MyIPO is working closely with other ministries and authorities to find ways to get international GI protection for them.
Yusnieza noted that expanding GI registrations will help strengthen Malaysia’s identity and heritage in regional agricultural discussions. The recognition of Musang King, Balik Pulau and Black Thorn as GIs also helps Malaysia prove it is the origin of these world-famous durian varieties. It shows the close connection between the durians’ special qualities and Malaysia’s environment, farming methods and local communities.
Besides, GI protection supports Malaysia’s views in discussions about originality and heritage, and helps Malaysian durians become more popular in global markets. At the same time, an intellectual property lawyer explained that Malaysia can protect durian varieties like Musang King from being wrongly used overseas.
28. What is the main purpose of asking Malaysia’s durian producers to register their varieties?
A. To help them sell more durians overseas
B. To protect their hard work and the varieties’ uniqueness
C. To make MyIPO more famous in the world
D. To get more support from the government
29. Which of the following is TRUE about Geographical Indication (GI)?
A. It is a sign that shows a product is the best in the world
B. Only individual farmers can apply for GI registration

Robots have now become an important part of agricultural and industrial workforce in various countries. They mark an important advance in mechanization of the production process. In a field in England, three little robots have been given a great job: to find and kill grass with electricity before planting seeds in the soil.
The robots are named Tom, Dick and Harry. Tom is the first of the three clever robots to start working. He watches the crops carefully and collects the information about each plant. He can create a short introduction to each plant and even make decisions on what chemicals are needed for your crops.
Dick does the dirty work. He can go to each plant that is doing bad to the crops and take it out. Plants that are good for the crops are left. He can spray things like chemicals in order to keep plants healthy.
Harry is a planter. He digs holes into the field and puts seeds into the ground, and records where he puts them. If a seed doesn’t grow, he can easily travel there and plant a new seed.
The smart robots are made by Small Robot. The British company says farmers could reduce costs by 40% and chemical usage by up to 95%. The little robots allow farmers to free their soils from chemicals. Using fewer chemicals is going to save much money and is good for the environment. As well as reducing the use of chemicals, robots will also bring us better soil quality and more plants and animals.
"We have to change farming now, or else there won't be anything to farm," says Small Robot.
32. What can we know about the three robots from Paragraph 1?
A. They are huge. B. They can plant seeds.

33. Which may be done by Dick?

C. A famous company that produces robots. D. The advantages that the farming robots bring.
35. What is the suitable title for the passage?
A. The Changes on Farming B. Protecting the Plants
C. Living a Modern Life D. The History of Robots

Technology has become an inseparable part of modern education. However, its role in classrooms remains a topic of debate. 36 .
Many schools have embraced digital tools, believing they can make learning more engaging. For example, interactive whiteboards and educational apps allow teachers to present lessons in dynamic ways. 37 . They can also access a vast amount of information online, which broadens their knowledge beyond textbooks.
Yet, there are growing concerns about over-reliance on technology. A recent UNESCO report warns that excessive screen time can be distracting for students. 38 . Even having a smartphone nearby can pull their attention away from lessons, according to studies in 14 countries.
39 .It should support, not replace, traditional teaching methods. Teachers play an irreplaceable role in guiding students, explaining complex ideas, and fostering critical thinking. Technology can be a powerful assistant, but it cannot build the emotional connection and personalized guidance that teachers provide.
Moreover, not all students have equal access to digital devices and high-speed internet. 40 .This digital divide can widen the gap between students from different backgrounds, making it harder for some to keep up with their peers.
In conclusion, technology in education is a double-edged sword. The key is to use it wisely, balancing its benefits with its potential drawbacks, and ensuring it serves the best interests of all students.
A. This inequality creates a significant problem in education.
B. Students can learn at their own pace with these tools.
C. Technology should never be the center of classroom learning.
D. Many students struggle to focus when using digital devices.
E. Finding the right balance between tech and traditional teaching is essential.
F. Some educators argue that technology limits students' creativity.
G.For instance, teachers can use technology to design more interactive activities.

There was a knock at the door. It was a delivery man. “Sign here, please,” he said. I signed. “It’s for you,” he added, and handed me an elephant. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined receiving an elephant, and he couldn’t be one of those prizes I had won in a contest, because I had never got involved in those. But the elephant was addressed correctly, and the shipping charges had been paid in full.
“Is this a shipping error? And I don’t want him,” I said, but the delivery man was firm: I had signed; the elephant was mine. I had to keep him.
And so began my life with the elephant. The first few days I kept him in the apartment, but it was hard for him to get up and down the stairs when he needed a breath of air and he couldn’t fit in the elevator. Besides, he took up the rest of my dining room.
Then I tried putting him in the garage of the building, but other neighbors complained. Each was allowed one parking space. I had to choose between my car and the elephant. So I parked the elephant in the garage and left my car out on the street.
I did not have enough money to buy gas and fifty pounds of food a day for the elephant, so I began driving the elephant to work in the morning. He was most kind, and, as it turned out, much faster and more comfortable than a bus.
I outfitted him with an elegant blanket, but even so, the first few days I was embarrassed when I went out with him. Everyone pointed at me. Many people laughed. “Look at that crazy man with the elephant,” they said. And the traffic police gave me such dirty looks that I was ashamed. I would leave the elephant in the office parking lot, and then pick him up at the end of the day. He always waited for me patiently, without complaining.

C. It links a product’s quality to its place of origin
D. GI-registered products are protected worldwide automatically
30. What does the underlined word “eligible” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Having the right to do something B. Having enough money to do something
C. Being famous and popular D. Being hard-working and creative
31. We can infer from the passage that __________.
A. Malaysia has 128 durian varieties registered with MyIPO
B. Musang King is already well-known around the world
C. GI protection can help producers cut their production costs
D. Malaysia has got international protection for all its registered durians

C. They work in a field. D. They come from America.
33. Which may be done by Dick?
A. Collecting information. B. Killing insects. C. Digging holes. D. Planting seeds.
34. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The harm that chemicals cause. B. The cost farmers spend on farming.

Dear Chris,
I'm writing to share with you my experience of shooting a short video on rural revitalization.
We arrived early in the morning and were amazed at the rural revitalization strategy in depth. We filmed farmers sowing seeds in the spring and took many photos and videos of the clean village roads, beautiful farmlands and new houses. We also interviewed a young man who had returned to his hometown to start smart farming. He has applied advanced agricultural technology and the land yields abundant crops.
This experience taught me more than I expected. I realized that rural infrastructure (facility) has not only been improved, but people’s living standards have also risen greatly. I've attached a photo from the shoot. Hope you like it!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Being clever, good-natured and very handsome, he became my best friend soon. Draped in the elegant blanket I’d prepared, he accompanied me to work every day, striding steadily along the bustling sidewalks. When waiting for me after work, he would squat down gently, curling his trunk to take the file bag from my hand smoothly. At the office gate, he developed a fun ritual with the security guard—exchanging soft trunk taps every morning, while the guard rewarded him with fresh fruit. Passers-by no longer laughed; instead, they gathered to take photos with him. He would lower his huge body slightly to match kids’ height, accepting snacks timidly and nodding as if to say thanks, which warmed my heart deeply.
It was the most enjoyable time of my life, but unfortunately it had to end. One day, a staff member from the wildlife reserve showed up, explaining the elephant was a precious rescued animal sent here by mistake due to a shipping label mix-up. Though reluctant, I knew the vast grassland, where he could roam freely with his fellows, was his true home. I presented the well-worn blanket to him as a memento before his departure; he pressed his forehead against my shoulder softly, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. Months later, I received a photo: he stood in a sun-dappled grassland, trunk raised to the sky among his kind. Our bond transcended species, leaving an indelible and warm mark on my memory forever.

W: Yes, it’s so lovely here! I really fancied a visit. We’re on a European road trip. We started off in France, and then stopped in Belgium on our way here. Next, we’ll see Austria before flying home to Beijing from France. (9)
M: How wonderful. Shall I give you some restaurant tips for tomorrow?
W: Maybe tomorrow. We’d like to go upstairs and take a rest now. (10) It’s been a long day.
M: Sure.
Text 8 比赛中场休息 (第11题为推断题)
M: One of the best things about going to a football match is the half-time pies!
W: Yes, it’s better than watching from home! Mine’s a meat and potato pie. Did you get chicken and sweetcorn like last time?
M: No, I went for something completely different — a butter pie. (12)
W: Butter?
M: Yes, and there’s more to it, like potatoes or other vegetables. It burnt my mouth, but I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a pie this good! (12) Now, where shall I put the empty pie case? There is no rubbish bin around.
W: I have a garbage bag. (13) You can use it.
M: Why do you carry this with you? (13)
W: For such a situation. Protecting the environment begins with not littering. (13)
M: Good for you. (13)
W: Look, how exciting — the players are coming out for the second half!
M: Yeah! It will be a close game!
★ half-time pies是一种在足球比赛中场休息时受球迷欢迎的球场小吃,与足球文化紧密相关。
Text 9 应对蜜蜂数量急剧减少的新研究 (第14题为总结题) (第15题为推断题)
M: I’m here with Professor Clark. (16) (17) Professor, do you bring us any good news about bees today?
W: Yes. In recent years, bee numbers have dropped a lot, mainly due to chemical-heavy farming and climate change. (16) Phone signal and diseases also have impacts. But we have created a bee “superfood”! It can help increase their numbers.
M: That’s great. So, how can this new feed help?
W: In tests, the number of bees increased by fifteen times after they ate it. This feed is rich in plant protein. Bees can eat it when there are not enough flowers, so they stay strong and keep raising babies.
M: Amazing. You must have been doing this for many years.
W: Since graduation. It’s taken me 20 years to focus on this project. (17) I love bees. I’ve been interested in biology since I was 10.
M: Having a brilliant mind like yours on board made all the difference. Let me thank you on behalf of every bee. Thank you for talking to us!
Text 10 参观爱丁堡忠犬鲍比 (第18题为推断题)
Across the road is the National Museum of Scotland, but that’s not our next point of interest. It’s actually right here. Please say hello to one of Scotland’s most famous dogs, Greyfriars Bobby! (19) (20) As you can see, this is just a statue of Bobby. The real dog died years ago. It was January 14th, 1872, to be exact. When he was very young, his owner, John Gray, sadly died. (19) Bobby spent the next fourteen years guarding John’s grave (坟墓)! He loved his owner so much that he never wanted to be parted! Every day, people would see him sitting there. He became quite the celebrity! He was so popular that the leader of Edinburgh city at the time, Sir William Chambers, paid for Bobby’s dog license in 1867. (20) Bobby eventually died and was buried not far from his beloved owner, which means that even today, he remains by his owner’s side! Over the years, people have told many versions of this story. Countless books have been written, and films made! Greyfriars Bobby is a symbol of love and devotion (忠诚) to this day! In my opinion, this is the most touching part.
