Taking a short nap is a good way for students to relax after lunch. To make short naps more comfortable, many middle and high schools provide foldable (折叠式的) desks and chairs. However, not all of these desks and chairs are well designed, and their poor design may harm students’ health.
To solve this problem, a new national standard came out on September 2nd, 2025. It explains how to make and use foldable desks and chairs correctly.
In primary schools, desks should be between 45.5cm and 73 cm tall. Chairs should be at least 36 cm wide to help students sit comfortably. When used for short naps, the chairs can be turned into small beds. Each bed should be at least 105 cm long, and the backrest (靠背) should lean (倾斜) back more than 135 degrees.
Besides, the desks and chairs must be strong. For example, a chair can be folded up to 10,000 times. They should also be easy to clean. If ink (墨水) gets on them, students can clean it off easily.

Ziggy’s heart was beating fast, and he was singing happily. But all of a sudden, when he looked at the football shirts, he went silent.

When you think of recycling, you may imagine old newspapers being turned into notebooks. But not all recycling works this way. Sometimes the old material is reused, but the new product is not as good as the old one. This is called downcycling (降级回收).
Downcycling means turning old materials into low-value items. For example, plastic bottles can be turned into textile fibers (纺织纤维). These fibers can be used to make clothes, but they cannot be turned back into bottles. Over time, the fibers lose their quality and end up as waste.
The word “downcycling” became widely known through the book Cradle to Cradle by William McDonough and Michael Braungart. The writers said that downcycling is not perfect because it shortens the life of materials. However, it is better than burning rubbish or putting it in the rubbish bin. It lets us use the same material more than once and saves natural resources (资源).

Luan Enjie is a great space scientist in China. On August 16, 2025, he was given the award of Person Touching China for 2024 for his excellent work in space science.
Luan was born in 1940 in Xiangyuan County, Shanxi Province, and his dream of going to the moon began in 1990. When he saw China’s Long March 2E rocket fly into the sky successfully, he first thought of sending something to the moon. After that, he worked hard for China’s space dream and played a big part in making rockets and many space projects.
In 2004, China started its lunar (月球) exploration program, and Luan became its first leader. He made clear plans: travelling around the moon, landing on it, and bringing samples (样本) back. Under his leadership, China’s first lunar satellite (卫星), Chang’e-1, was sent into space in 2007. It sent back clear pictures of the moon, which helped scientists learn more about the moon.
