Last month, I felt tired and stressed every day, buried in endless homework and exams. I thought hobbies were just a waste of time—until my mom pushed me to the tennis court one Saturday morning.
At first, I couldn’t deal with the racket, missing every ball. But after a few tries, I started to get the hang of it. Running, hitting, laughing, I forgot all about my school worries. By the end of the hour, my body was tired, but my mind felt light and clear.
Soon, tennis became my favorite hobby. Every weekend, I play with my best friend Lily. It keeps me fit, and I notice my grades are getting better too—I can focus much longer in class. What surprises me most is how it calms my nerves. When I’m on the court, all my stress just goes away.
I also learned that hobbies don’t have to be sports. My cousin plays the guitar, and she says it keeps her brain sharp and even lowers her stress. Creative hobbies like painting or writing can also help people express their feelings and feel more confident.
Of course, we need to manage our time well. Spending too much time on screen hobbies like gaming can hurt your eyes or make you feel lonely. That’s why I love outdoor tennis—it gets me moving, lets me enjoy fresh air, and builds my friendship with Lily.
Now I know the truth: all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Taking time for my hobby isn’t wasting time—it’s making me a healthier, happier person.
26. The writer didn’t realize hobbies were a waste of time until she played tennis with her mom.
27. After playing tennis, the writer felt relaxed in mind although the body was tired.
28. Both the writer’s hobby and her cousin’s hobby are creative and helpful.
29. The writer thinks that screen hobbies are never better than outdoor hobbies.
30. The passage mainly wants to tell us reasonable hobbies make a better person.
28. B 29. B
30. A
根据第一段“I thought hobbies were just a waste of time—until my mom pushed me...”,作者原本以为爱好是浪费时间,打网球后改变了这一看法(即意识到爱好不是浪费时间)。
根据第二段“By the end of the hour, my body was tired, but my mind felt light and clear.”,明确说明打完网球后作者身体虽累但头脑轻松清晰,即感到放松。
文中提到“Hobbies don’t have to be sports... Creative hobbies like...”,将运动与创意爱好进行了区分,网球属于运动而非文中定义的创意爱好。故题干表述错误。
【29题详解】
第五段“Spending too much time on screen hobbies...can hurt...”,作者认为花“太多时间”在屏幕爱好上有害,并未绝对地认为屏幕爱好“永远不如”户外爱好。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段“Taking time for my hobby isn’t wasting time—it’s making me a healthier, happier person.”,文章主要讲述了合理的爱好能让人更健康、快乐,成为更好的人。
(C)
Located in Africa, the Sahara Desert spreads across 30 per cent of the continent (大陆). This vast desert, also known as “________” in Arabic, is about 9 million square kilometers in size. It is also at least 4.6 million years old. This means that it is one of the oldest places in the world.
All deserts are dry, and the Sahara is both dry and hot. It is the largest hot desert in the world. We may think that all deserts are hot, but in fact some deserts are very cold! Many scientists believe that Antarctica, for example, is a type of cold desert. Another example, the Taklimakan Desert, is hot in summer, cold in winter and there is a huge temperature difference between day and night.
Most of the Sahara is rocky ground. But there are also places with grass, lakes, mountains, and even sand seas. A sand sea is just what it sounds like—it looks like a sea of sand! When the wind blows, the sand looks like waves.
Life in the Sahara is difficult. About two million people live in the Sahara. They usually move from place to place. There is water in a few parts of the Sahara, and some people live in these places all year round.
Not many animals can live in a place with such a dry and hot climate. They must adapt (适应) to survive. Camels, for example, go for a long time without drinking water. When they do find water, they can drink more than 100 litres of it in 13 minutes! Fennec foxes live in the desert too. They have large ears to help their bodies stay cool.
Today, the world’s largest hot desert is getting even bigger. It is now about 10 per cent larger than what it was about a century (世纪) ago. But why is it growing? Some scientists believe that part of the reason is climate change. As temperatures rise, summers in Africa grow hotter and less rain falls. Water bodies get smaller and the ground gets drier and drier. If we do not take effective measures, the desert will keep growing!

C. Because they have large ears.
34. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A. The Sahara was about 8.10 million km2 in size about one hundred years ago.
B. The rise of temperatures makes summers in Africa hotter and rain falls more.

35. Besides introducing facts about the Sahara, what’s the other purpose of the writer in this passage?
A. To tell readers the Sahara is growing.

“step away from your desk”意为“离开你的书桌”,与前文“take a break”逻辑一致。

表示“两者都”,连接“them”和“you”两个并列宾语,需填both,构成“both them and you”结构,意为“他们和你都……”。

Most people never think of sneezing as a way to stay safe, but it is actually our body’s natural way of protecting itself. Sneezing helps us clear out harmful things like germs (细菌), dust, and smoke that enter our nose. When something tickles (使发痒) the inside of our nose, our brain takes over and sends a message to clear it out, and we cannot really control this action.
When we sneeze, many things happen in a very short time. Our eyes shut, our tongue presses against the top of our mouth, and the muscles (肌肉) in our stomach and chest (胸) get tight. Then a sudden rush of air rushes out of our lungs (肺) and nose, carrying the bad things away. Some unusual things can also make people sneeze, such as looking at a bright light or having allergies to certain plants or animals.
Although sneezing is good for the person doing it, it can spread (传播) illnesses to people nearby. Germs from one sneeze can travel up to about 8 meters at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, and these germs can stay in the air and make others sick. That is why we should always cover our nose and mouth when we sneeze, and wash our hands after that. These simple steps can help protect everyone around us.
51. How does sneezing help us protect our bodies?
_______________________________________________________
52. How many body parts are involved in a sneeze?
_______________________________________________________
53. What does the underlined word “others” refer to (指代)?

第2段“Our eyes shut, our tongue presses against the top of our mouth, and the muscles in our stomach and chest get tight. Then a sudden rush of air rushes out of our lungs and nose...”,提到了打喷嚏时涉及的身体部位有眼睛(eyes)、舌头(tongue)、嘴巴(mouth)、胃(stomach)、胸部(chest)、肺(lungs)和鼻子(nose),共7个部位。
第3段明确指出“Although sneezing is good for the person doing it, it can spread illnesses to people nearby. ... and these germs can stay in the air and make others sick.”,划线单词“others”指的是前一句中提到的附近的人。
第3段描述了“Germs from one sneeze can travel up to about 8 meters at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour...”,这是一道跨学科计算题,根据物理公式:时间=距离÷速度,即8米÷(160000米÷3600秒)=0.18秒。
根据文章第3段“That is why we should always cover our nose and mouth when we sneeze, and wash our hands after that.”,说明为了不传播疾病,我们打喷嚏时应该捂住口鼻,并在之后洗手。
