第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(满分15分)
Good morning, dear fellow students! I firmly hold that practical skills are indispensable for young people. Established by the UN General Assembly in 2014, World Youth Skills Day on July 15th reminds us of the vital role of skill development in our growth.
Last semester, I participated in a school woodworking workshop. This experience not only enabled me to craft a small bookshelf for my family but also fostered my sense of responsibility and patience. In today’s fiercely competitive society, practical skills, alongside academic achievements, equip us to stand out and adapt to future challenges, laying a solid foundation for our growth.
Thanks for listening!
第二节(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
We drove in silence to the hospice. As we pulled up, two nurses were already waiting, gently helping her into a wheelchair. Reaching for her purse, she asked, “How much do I owe you?” “Nothing,” I replied without a second thought. Then, leaning down, I wrapped my arms around her frail shoulders. She hugged me back with surprising strength, her tears falling silently onto my jacket. “You’ve given me a beautiful farewell,” she whispered. I watched as the nurses wheeled her through the door, and I knew — no meter could ever measure the value of that ride.
Paragraph 2:
Twenty years later, I still remember that night. It was then that I truly understood: nothing is more precious than the kindness we offer to a lonely soul. So often we rush past the moments that matter, chasing time and money. But that elderly woman taught me that a simple act of compassion can light up someone’s final hours. Never have I regretted turning off the meter. That taxi ride didn’t cost me a cent — yet it gave me a memory worth more than gold.

W: Just drink one glass of water every hour when you are awake. (1)
Text 2
W: I can’t wait for March to arrive! This winter has been very cold. (2)
M: Spring here is usually very wet. I’m looking forward to summer.
Text 3
M: The other team is beating us because they have more players. If we’re going to win, we need to make a better plan.
W: I almost feel like giving up, but you are right. (3)
Text 4
W: Have you met John Andrews? He just moved here from Spain and he is trying to learn the language. He is still shy at speaking loudly, but I was able to understand a little if he spoke slowly.
M: I met him briefly. I couldn’t understand his thick accent, though. (4)
Text 5
M: Did you take the practice test for the SAT on the 8th? I didn’t see you there. I got a bad score, so I’m going to take it again on the 19th.
W: I need more time to study. My test date is the 20th. (5)
Text 6
W: You invited me to your New Year’s party on December 31st. Now it’s my turn. Come with me to visit my family for our New Year dinner. (6)
M: But, it’s January now. New Year’s is over.
W: Not for Chinese people. We celebrate at a different time each year. This year, the New Year begins on January 25th. My family is going to celebrate the night before. (6) My mom will make the best sticky rice. And my grandmother will be cooking her special duck dish. That’s my favorite. (7) Will you come?
M: Definitely!
Text 7 (第8题为总结题)
M: Hey, Patty. How long have you been riding to work?
W: For the past couple of weeks. I really wanted to change my habits. You know, be healthier, do my part for the environment, save money…
M: Good for you. Where did you get it?
W: It’s a city bike. Anyone can ride it. (10) All you have to do is sign up and link your bank account to the phone application, and the bike unlocks.
M: Wow! It’s cheaper than taking a taxi every day, I guess. (9)
W: I know. I had to stop doing it because it was too expensive. (9) So, are you going to try it? (10)
M: I usually walk to work. I live close by, so there isn’t really a point. (10)
W: OK. Well, why don’t we go somewhere for lunch, and I’ll show you how to sign up?
M: Great!
Text 8 (第13题为推断题)
W: Good morning, Jack.
M: Good morning, Mary. What can I help you with?
W: Well, I forgot my access card at my desk. (11) I was wondering if you could just let me in.
M: I’m sorry, Mary. Entering with a card is the company policy, and you know that I can’t do that. I can call the boss and have her bring out your card for you if you’d like. I know it’s troublesome, but it’s my responsibility to secure the front gate.
W: OK, please invite her down here.
M: Please just wait a moment.
W: Do you know why the rules are so strict? (12) I have worked here for many years and this is my first time I have forgotten my card.
M: Well, the card also tells us who came into the building today. Even visitors get cards that are tied specifically to their state ID’s. This is to protect everyone in case something happens. It helps stop blame from being put on the wrong people if something goes wrong. (12)
W: I see. I suppose our documents are very valuable.
Text 9
M: Your company has become a leader in new policies this year. (14) Do you have anything to say about that?
W: I think that all of these other companies are blinded by profits and expanding, rather than doing what is right for keeping our water sources clean and polluting less. (14)
M: That is well said. You first began this project by closing down one of your factories. Why is that?
W: That factory was too close to the ocean, and because of new national laws, we weren’t allowed to be there any longer. (15) We rebuilt the factory in a better spot and moved our employees there.
M: Do you think your company was treated fairly?
W: Yes, I do. We would have never built there if we had known about what it was doing to the water. There’s nothing I value more than education, and thanks to science, we were able to fix a mistake. (16) Now my company can truly become what I had intended it to be from the beginning.
M: The decision to change locations has already had a large effect on your sales for the quarter of this year, especially the big cost of moving the factory. Where will you go from here?
W: We will continue to make quality products, and we will also be more mindful of our waste products, too. (17) I hope other companies do the same with their factories, new and old.
Text 10 (第20题为推断题)
Perhaps the most famous food in the UK is fish and chips. (18) People from all around the world have heard of it, and when they visit the country as tourists, they want to try it. Every British town has a fish and chip shop and one in Yorkshire has become a hit with visitors from China. (18) It is so successful that it has translated its menu for Chinese. Scott’s Fish and Chips, near York, has seen buses full of visitors hoping to try the traditional dish. The restaurant’s location is thought to be the reason for so many Chinese visitors, because it is on the main road for tour groups visiting the historic city of York from London. The restaurant staff are impressed by the Chinese, who are always friendly, polite and happy. Scott’s has also set up a website and a messaging app on one of China’s most popular social media platforms to promote the business. (19) York is one of the main destinations for tourists, and the second largest overseas market for China.

Thumbs up! Why do we do it?
Different gestures mean different things in different countries.Different meanings of gestures can also cause problems in understanding what another person is trying to say. A gesture that many people do not understand is one that uses the thumb.
In the Roman era, a thumbs up meant death for a gladiator (格斗士). If the gladiator was to be spared, the referee would press the thumb to the top of the fist. If he flicked it up, it was bad news.
It’s thought the positive meaning of thumbs up started with English archers in the Middle Ages. A fist with thumb up measured the correct brace height of the longbow, so the gesture came to mean “All is well. Ready for battle.”
Another origin of the gesture comes from merchants in Medieval times. They would seal a deal by licking their thumbs and pressing them together, so a thumbs up came to mean “done deal”.
Hitchhikers around the world hope to “thumb a lift” from passing traffic, but watch out in Greece, Sardinia and the Middle East, where a thumbs-up sign is an insult and is more likely to get you into trouble than the next town.
In the 1990s, influential US movie reviewers Siskal and Ebert used a thumbs up or thumbs down rating system on their TV show. Now, thumbs up and thumbs down signs are everywhere on the internet.
21. What did “thumbs up” mean according to the text?
A. The gladiator will be spared in ancient Rome.
B. English archers got ready for battle in the Middle Ages.
C. A deal was not set for the merchants in Medieval times.
D. It is more unlikely to get somebody into trouble in Greece.
22. A passer-by who can thumb a lift may come from ______.

23. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The importance of Body language.
B. The gesture diversity around the world.
C. The cultural difference from area to area.
D. The different meanings about “thumbs up” .

Craftsman Qian Gaochao and his son recently spent more than six months making three “chicken-blood” stone carvings showing the taekwondo and wrestling competitions of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. As a national inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of the chicken-blood stone carving technique, Qian Gaochao says that he is working on the other carvings related to the Asian Games in the chicken-blood stone museum in Changhua town, Zhejiang Province.
Chicken-blood stone is one of China’s most prized decorative materials and has been used for centuries to create carved works with characteristic red markings. With its bright blood-red color, bright crystal-like jade texture, quality and shape, chicken-blood stones are celebrated the world over. The artistic value of Changhua chicken-blood stone lies in its adaptability, which can be made into decorations of various sizes and forms. It is not only a mineral sample that records geological changes, but also a cultural relic that reflects the productivity of different eras, living conditions and folk customs.
The stone has become a cultural symbol of deepening friendship with others in diplomatic (外交的) activities. For example, in 1972, the Chinese premier gave Changhua chicken-blood stones to Japan as State gifts. In 1986, a seal of Changhua stone was presented to the US. In 2016, the Changhua stone sculpture “Haliaeetus Albicilla Duda Portrait Seal” was presented to Poland. In September 2016, 36 sets of portrait seals were given as gifts to guests who attended the 11th G20 Summit held in Hangzhou.
“As a craftsman, I’m not only doing carving work but also recording the development and changes of our society and remembering the era through the medium of my carvings,” Qian Gaochao says. He has created fascinating works, many of which are related to important events in Chinese history and famous people who have made significant contributions to the country.

British members of parliament (议会) tasked with completing a year-6 SAT exam have scored lower results on average than the country’s 10-year-olds. Only 44 percent of the cross-party of parliamentarians dubbed the Westminster Class of 2022 achieved the expected standard in math, and just 50 percent achieved the expected standard in spelling, punctuation and grammar. Across the country, 59 percent of pupils aged 10 and 11 reached the expected standard in the SATs of math, reading and writing this year.
More Than A Score hope the politicians will take the high-pressured experience away with them and realize that “the exams only judge schools but do not help children’s learning at that age.”
“The exams were absolutely terrifying,” Byrne said, “the mental impact such pressure would have on these young children is huge. SATs at this level must be canceled. I’m delighted so many cross-party colleagues could experience this pressure too.”
Robin Walker, the new chair of the education select committee, acknowledged a need to reform exams for 10 to 11-year-olds, but refused to back dropping the exams altogether. “There will always be a place for testing, but that cannot be the be-all and end-all to accessing the most opportunity. Ultimately, it’s not just about testing, but it’s how we develop their love of reading.”
Alison Ali from More Than A Score said: “This is more than a test of math and English capabilities, it’s an opportunity for members of parliament to put themselves in the shoes of 10 and 11-year-olds… they will see how absurd some of the questions faced by children are, how these absurdities influence and narrow the whole curriculum, and how they are only used to judge schools, not to help children’s learning.”
28. In what way does the author present the exam results in Paragraph 1?
A. By giving examples. B. By providing statistics.
C. By giving definitions. D. By making explanations.
29. What can be inferred from Byrne’s comments on SATs?
A. SATs should be called off at once.
B. More cross-party colleagues need to experience SATs.
C. The pressure that young children are faced with now is too intense.
D. Exams that students always prepare for are absolutely terrifying.
30. What does the underlined word “dropping” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Canceling. B. Supporting. C. Taking. D. Falling.
31. What can be concluded from the passage?
A. Interest is the best teacher.
B. Higher grades, higher capabilities.
C. Always put oneself into others’ shoes.
D. Exams aren’t necessarily helpful in learning.
D
We begin this week on a launch pad at Vandenberg space force base in California. Their private space flight company SpaceX launched another batch(批次) of 53 satellites, to join its StarLink global broadband internet service. The company has thousands of StarLink satellites in orbit. SpaceX says it was the eighth blast off and landing of this Falcon 9 booster, after completing its mission the reusable booster landed on the drone ship named Of Course I Still Love You.
SpaceX followed that launch days later with this one from Florida’s Cape Canaveral. There the company launched the Falcon Heavy known as the world’s most powerful active rocket for the first time in three years. Three Falcon 9 boosters strapped side by side form a Falcon Heavy. The two side boosters landed back at Cape Canaveral in near perfect sink.
The trip carried US military satellites and was the first Falcon Heavy mission since 2019. Meanwhile on Mars NASA’s inside Lander which touched down in 2018 will run out of power and stop work in the next month or two.
This as scientists detailed a massive meteor strike that gouged out parts of the planet’s surface. NASA says the high point of this discovery is the presence of water ice near the equator. Water ice is frozen water as opposed to other frozen compounds found in the cold of space. This is really an exciting result. We know of course that there’s water ice near the poles on Mars, but in planning for future human exploration of Mars, we’d want to land the astronauts as near to the equator as possible, and having access to ice at these lower latitudes that water, that ice could be converted into water oxygen or hydrogen that could be really useful.
This week NASA finally said goodbye to a space flight giant. The headquarters building at the agency’s Marshall space flight center in Huntsville Alabama, was instrumental in developing and testing the massive space launch system or SLS rocket that will one day launch the Artemis program to space. Commonly known as Building 4200 it spent about 60 years as the center’s base of operations, but renovations were cost prohibitive. And so NASA said goodbye to the building where engineers designed the Saturn V rocket that carried the first humans to the Moon, Building 4200 went out with a bang at a controlled implosion Saturday.
32. What’s the mission of satellites launched this week should be?
A. To launch other 53satellites into orbit.
B. To accelerate the landing of the reusable booster.
C. To let the reusable booster land on the drone ship .
D. To make themselves connected to global internet service.
33. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. The severe landing surroundings on Mars.
B. The launching and landing process of satellites.
C. The basic information and inner structure of satellites.
D. The history and development of space flight company SpaceX.
34. What’s the highlight of the discovery on a massive meteor strike according to NASA?
A. Human exploration of Mars being much easier than before.
B. Many frozen compounds found in the cold of space.
C. The presence of water ice near the equator.
D. Cracked parts of the planet’s surface.
35. For what reason NASA said goodbye to a space flight giant?
A. Building 4200 was badly destroyed in an implosion.
B. The cost of repairing the building is extremely expensive.
C. The building is predicted to be out of control after several renovations.
D. 60 years as the center’s base of operations makes the building too old to use.
第二节(共5小题, 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)
根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
For so many of us, our days feel filled with a million small interruptions like taking a call at the beach, or texting your boss from the grocery store. We may think that these behaviors are no big deal, but there’s a real cost to them. 36 .
Reframe rest. Reflect for a moment about what you think about when you hear the word “rest”. 37 , we need to find ways we can enjoy the present moment and savor the leisure time. One specific strategy is to treat our upcoming weekend like a vacation. On Friday afternoon, jot down how you would act and behave as if you were on a holiday, like visiting a local cafe and listen to some live music or going for a long walk in the middle of the day with no phone and no agenda. 38 . Instead of saying, “I’m out of the office. Feel free to Twitter me whenever,” say, “I’ll be offline. Call me only if it’s urgent.”
Set team goals for personal time. Do it publicly, collect data and hold each other accountable. These goals could sound like, “I will not check email between 6:00 and 8:00pm;” “I will have dinner with my family four nights a week;” or “I will go for a jog midday.” Check in on your team’s progress and see how everyone’s doing. If you or your teammates are unsuccessful, work together to help accomplish personal goals.
39 . Thus it can prevent work from creeping into your personal life. You can ask for more time on adjustable deadlines at work. If your client asks for a deliverable Monday morning, ask for an extension until Tuesday afternoon so you don’t find yourself working on your well deserved weekend.
These are small but powerful changes to not only reframe rest, but to reclaim it. 40 , you’ll feel empowered to demand that others respect and accommodate your approach to time. Maybe they’ll even feel inspired to piece together the broken moments of their lives, too.
A. Ask for more rest
B. Negotiate for more time
C. When we do have time off
D. There are smart strategies helping us better protect our time
E. If you find the work that your boss gave you really matters
F. Another strategy is to create clear boundaries for your time off
G. Once you discover the profound impact these changes can have

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi. One night, I was called at midnight to pick someone up. When I arrived, the building was completely dark except for one light in a window.
I walked to the door and knocked. After a long wait, the door opened. A small woman in her 80s stood before me, holding a small suitcase.
“Would you carry my bag out to the car?” she said. I took her suitcase and gave her my arm. We walked slowly to the street. She kept thanking me for my kindness.
“It’s nothing,” I told her. “I try to treat my passengers how I want my mother treated.”
When we got in the taxi, she gave me an address. Then she asked, “Could you drive through the downtown?”
“It’s not the shortest way,” I answered.
“I don’t mind,” she said. “I’m in no hurry. I’m on my way to a hospice (临终安养院).”
I saw her eyes shining with tears.
“I don’t have any family left,” she continued. “The doctor says I don’t have very long.”
I quietly turned off the meter (计价器). “What road do you want me to take?” I asked.
For hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived. Sometimes she asked me to just slow down while she sat staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
As the sun was coming up, she suddenly said, “I’m tired. Let’s go now.”
