I went with my best friend, the biologist David edinburgh gh. We had both spent five years at university, and we had just graduated. The plan was simple since I was a writer and he was a biologist, I would write about our experiences, and he would study the different animals we saw along the way. First we stopped the egypt. We visited the famous payments road camps and saw crocodile in the nile river. After that, we went to cana, where we had a chance to feed giraffe from the tallest trees. Then we went to tanzania and camped in a small village. The local there took us to see some rare animals. Last we ended our trip in mEdgar car there we saw an animal that i'd never seen before. I bet my friend fifty dollars that IT was a monkey. But after a quick internet search, I learned I was wrong. Never make a bed about animals with a biologist. When we arrived back home, I went to see David's publisher. I showed him everything i'd written about our journey. He said that he would publish IT in the next national geographic magazine. B篇
Recently, the growing eyebrow blindness has caused many TikTok users to complain on the platform: Are make-up enthusiasts able to tell if they’re blindly chasing make-up trends or actually wearing what really looks good on their faces. While “eyebrow blindness” and other forms of “beauty blindness” aren’t officially regarded as mental health issues, the tendency of people to follow trends, even making them look foolish or taking risks, is undeniably a real thing.
So, what does psychology say about trend-following? Following trends isn’t an indication of a weak character or a mental health problem, says psychologist Pamela Rutledge, it’s completely normal. The root of that lies in humans’ fundamental need of social connections. Multiple psychological theories indicate that human social connections are as crucial as basic necessities like food and shelter, as humans have evolved to depend on one another for survival.
But why do trends hold such a strong pull? “Our brains are programmed to notice the unusual,” Rutledge explains. Consequently, we pay attention to those who stand out and attract attention, making trends even more enticing for those brave enough to embrace them.
No one is immune to following fashions, noticing trends, or demonstrating their real belonging to social groups. However, there is one specific group that is even easier to following trends, even risky ones: Tweens, teens and young adults. As children begin to move towards independence, they seek ways to express their individuality. This can sometimes lead to desperate efforts to prove their affiliation (从属关系) with socially credible groups and can fuel a desire to stand out by riding the wave of trends.
So, next time you do your make-up, get dressed, order food in public, or buy a car, bear in mind that your decision might not be as personalized as you think. “It’s essentially an inborn response, which can be explained by our need to fit in with or stand out from the crowd,” says Pamela.
( )24. Why is “eyebrow blindness” mentioned?
A. It contrasts with “beauty blindness”.
B. It illustrates a kind of make-up.
C. It brings out the text’s core argument.
D. It highlights the importance of beauty.
( )25. What does the underlined word “enticing” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Vital.
B. Appealing.
C. Demanding.
D. Risky.
( )26. Why are youngsters more likely to follow trends?
A. They pursue uniqueness and social recognition.
B. They are easily affected by social pressure.
C. They tend to show their social status.
D. They are always seeking adventures.
( )27. What does Pamela emphasize in the end?
A. Trend-following is a natural behavior.
B. Individuality stands out above trends.
C. Tweens and teens are trend-setters.
D. Social groups decide our behavior.

Albino redwoods, with their slightly shining white appearance, are a rare sight in California’s coastal forests. Despite lacking chlorophyll (叶绿素), which is used to photosynthesize (光合作用), these trees have managed to survive, puzzling researchers for over a century. However, a recent study by biologist Zane Moore from the University of California in Davis may have uncovered the secret to their existence.
Redwoods rank among the tallest organisms on earth and claim an existence of some 3,500 years. They are known for their complex root systems that allow them to communicate and share nutrients during tough times. Researchers have seen this firsthand by introducing dye to trees on one side of an area of redwoods and tracing it all the way to the further reaches. In summer, they become more independent, and those unable to sustain themselves are cut from the shared system in the autumn needle drop.
So, if albino redwoods can’t photosynthesize, why are they able to stick around? Moore’s research suggests that albino redwoods survive by tapping into the shared root system and absorbing sugars from healthier neighbors. Contrary to the belief that they depend on other plants to survive, Moore’s findings indicate a symbiotic (共生) relationship.
Albino redwoods tend to grow in less healthy conditions and have been found to contain high levels of poisonous heavy metals in their leaves. More theories that these trees are not only surviving but also serving a purpose by acting as a “storeroom for poison”, thus protecting their healthier neighbors. This discovery could potentially make it possible to use albino redwoods in polluted areas to safeguard other trees.
The study highlights the interconnectedness of trees and their ability to look out for one another, forming bonds and even recognizing their offspring. Moore’s research emphasizes the importance of considering the entire community of trees, rather than focusing on individuals, to understand what’s happening in the forest.
( )28. What can be learned about redwoods according to paragraph 2?
A. They are the oldest trees on earth.
B. They have strong roots that can reach very far.
C. They communicate with each other secretly.
D. They offer each other nutrition in tough times.
( )29. How do albino redwoods survive?
A. They grow from fallen needles.
B. They take place other tree species.
C. They perform special photosynthesis.
D. They live on the healthier redwoods.
( )30. What role do albino redwoods play in the forest ecosystem?
A. They transport water for the forest.

D. They are responsible for the reproduction.
( )31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Albino Redwoods May Be the Result of Pollution

D篇
Getting angry doesn’t just hurt our mental health, it’s also damaging to our hearts and gastrointestinal (胃肠的) systems, according to recent research. Of course, it’s a common emotion that everyone feels—few of us stay serene when a driver cuts us off or a boss makes us stay late. But getting mad too often or for too long can cause problems.
One recent study looked at anger’s effects on the heart. It found that anger can raise the risk of heart attacks because it impairs the functioning of blood vessels. Researchers examined the impact of three different emotions on the heart: anger, anxiety and sadness. One participant group did a task that made them angry, another did one that made them anxious, while a third did an exercise designed to induce sadness. The scientists then tested the functioning of the blood vessels in each participant, and they found that those in the angry group had worse blood flow than those in the others; their blood vessels didn’t expand as much.
Doctors are also gaining a better understanding of how anger affects our gastrointestinal system. When someone becomes angry, the body produces numerous proteins and hormones that increase inflammation (炎症) in the body. Chronic inflammation can raise your risk of many diseases. The body’s sympathetic nervous system—or “fight or flight” system—is also activated, which shunts blood away from the gut to major muscles. This slows down movement in the GI tract, which can lead to problems like constipation (便秘).
“If you have an angry conversation every now and again or you get upset every now and again, that’s within the normal human experience,” says Antonia Seligowski, a professor at Massachusetts General Hospital. “When a negative emotion is prolonged, when you’re really having a lot more of it and maybe more intensely, that’s where it’s bad for your health.” Her group is looking at whether mental-health treatments, like certain types of talk therapy or breathing exercises, may also be able to improve some of the physical problems caused by anger.
( )32. Why does the author mention “the driver” and “the boss” in paragraph 1?
A. To show that anger only happens at work.
B. To illustrate that anger is a common emotion.
C. To suggest that only outside events cause anger.
D. To indicate that anger is often aimed at people in charge.
( )33. What do we know about anger from paragraph 2 and paragraph 3?
A. It improves blood flow.
B. It increases nutrient absorption.
C. It enhances digestive movement.
D. It triggers the body’s sympathetic nervous system.
( )34. Which statement does Antonia Seligowski agree with about occasional anger?
A. It is harmful to our health.
B. It should be avoided instantly.
C. It should be prolonged constantly.
D. It is part of normal human experience.
( )35. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. The Benefits of Expressing Anger

You’re Only as Smart as Your Emotions
For thousands of years, Western thought maintained there was an eternal war between reason and emotion. 36_______ Emotions were seen as primitive forces likely to lead people astray. This traditional view suggested that true wisdom required suppressing feelings to achieve pure rationality.
However, modern neuroscience has fundamentally challenged this perspective. 37______ The problem lies in outdated cultural perceptions that haven’t kept pace with scientific understanding.
Recent studies confirm this through controlled laboratory experiments. Through advanced brain imaging, we now know emotions serve as sophisticated biological guidance systems. Neuroscientist Ralph Adolphs explains in Leonard Mlodinow’s book Emotional: “An emotion adjusts your goals, directs attention, and modifies mental calculations based on circumstances.” Consider Antonio Damasio’s landmark study of brain-damaged patients. Those with damaged emotional processing struggled with basic decisions despite intact logical abilities. 38_______ This demonstrates how emotions provide the necessary context for effective reasoning.
Understanding this demands developing emotional athleticism. 39_______ Being “passionate enough to feel and skilful enough to understand feelings” allows us to navigate life’s complex areas. When facing career choices or personal relationships, our emotional responses help prioritize values and predict outcomes beyond pure logic.
40 ________ Schools emphasizing emotional literacy show improved academic performance and social skills. Companies incorporating emotional intelligence training report better teamwork and decision-making. Life isn’t mathematical calculus but dynamic navigation where emotions provide real-time orientation.
选项
A. The implications extend to education and workplace training.
B. Reason was considered the sophisticated product of human evolution.
C. This discovery revolutionized our understanding of emotional intelligence.
D. Just as athletes train physical responses, we must cultivate emotional awareness.
E. Research now shows emotions don’t oppose rationality but actually enhance it by providing essential guidance.
F. This means different emotional states activate specific brain patterns that optimize decision-making for particular situations.
G. Excessive reliance on emotions may lead to impulsive behavior, so balance is key.

I couldn’t sleep for excitement and jumped out of bed at 2:00 a.m. I pulled on shorts and a T-shirt, plenty for the warm weather that we’d enjoyed for six days on Maui. But the temperature at the summit of Haleakala volcano would be much colder, so I stuffed a long-sleeved shirt, tights, and a jacket into a daypack.
Friends had ordered me to see the sunrise over Mt. Haleakala. I figured biking down the mountain afterward with a small group of adventurers would be fun. I ran a comb through my hair and headed out to meet the van. I’d be on a strange bike with people I didn’t know, biking down a mountain in the dusky light.
A twelve-passenger van drove up, pulling a trailer filled with bicycles, and the driver jumped out, one hand extended, “saying hi. I’m Aaron”. I settled into the middle seat, my pack on my lap, and we headed out to pick up the other passengers. A mother and daughter boarded at one hotel.
Aaron picked up a second tour guide, Manny, and in about an hour and a half we arrived at the summit of Haleakala. We followed our guides across a lava field. We then leaned in to chat in groups of twos and threes, and again a feeling of being entirely alone swept through me. Voices dropped to whispers as the sky lightened and pink streamers spread slowly across the sky.
When the sun had cleared the horizon, Aaron and Manny unloaded the bikes. Everyone got a bike and we began to cycle downhill. Then one woman asked to get back in the van, as the ride too difficult for her. Although I knew I should be confident, fear built inside me. Then I glanced beside me, and glanced again. There was Annie, my beloved dog, running beside me. She passed away only two months earlier.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;

高二英语测试答案与解析
【答案】
1-------5 BABBC 6------10 CCBCA
11-----15 CABCA 16-----20 ABACA
听力原文
(Text 1)
W: Hi, Jack.
M: Hi, May.
W: I’m glad the competition’s over. I was so nervous.
M: But you read your poem really well. You seemed quite confident.
(Text 2)
W: There is so much homework to do. I’m going to be driven mad.
M: Keep cool. It’ll be all right. What will you do after our final exam?
(Text 3)
W: How is the weather today?
M: It’s beautiful. It’s perfect for a picnic.
W: Much better than yesterday, isn’t it?
M: Yes. My cap was nearly blown away.
(Text 4)
M: You look more beautiful in this white skirt than that yellow one.
W: Thank you. I like the white one better. But how much will you charge me?
M: It costs $100, but I’d like to take off 30%, and that’s it.
(Text 5)
W: Could I ask you a favour, Ben?
M: Of course. I’ve just finished my report.
W: Could you help me move my desk into the other office?
M: Actually, I’ve got a bad back. Can you ask someone else?
(Text 6)
W: Did you hear about the couple that got lost in the wilderness?
M: Yeah. They were supposed to go camping for the weekend. They left on Saturday but never showed up on Monday for work.
W: Can you believe that they weren’t found until Thursday? They didn’t even tell their families where they were going.
M: Well, it was a good thing they brought enough food. That’s the only reason they made it that long.
W: Their cellphones certainly weren’t much help. They probably thought they would work out there!
M: At least they’re OK now.
(Text 7)
M: Good morning. Is there anything I can do for you?
W: I made my keyboard wet when I had some juice today, and now the keys are stuck. I can’t type up my report.
M: I see.
W: So how soon would you be able to fix it?
M: Well, we’re not too busy right now. Why don’t you just wait and we can probably repair it for you within 30 minutes?
W: Actually, I have to go to the bank and then do some shopping with my friend. I’ll just come back and pick up the keyboard when I’m done.
(Text 8)
W: Why are you pulling into the gas station? You filled up the tank at the last stop. Is there anything wrong with the car?
M: Everything’s fine. I was just thinking we should take a bathroom break and relax our legs for a bit. We’ve been driving for three hours, and we’re at the halfway point anyway.
W: Good idea. At this rate, we should make it there by six.
M: We should pick up some firewood, too. My uncle’s cabin can get very cold at night.
W: Why couldn’t we just stay in a hotel? You know I need comfort.
M: Trust me. You’ll be fine once we’re settled in by the fire. It’s not like we’re staying in a tent.
W: OK. Remember we need to leave by one o’clock Sunday.
M: You’ll arrive home safely as long as we don’t get lost.
W: What?!
M: Just kidding!
(Text 9)
W: Hey, James. How’s the job search going?
M: Hi, Sharon. I had no idea it would take so much time. It sure makes it difficult to prepare for final exams. How about you?
W: I am lucky. There seems to be a shortage of high school teachers now. I applied to three schools, and each one offered me a position.
M: That’s great. Which one do you like?
W: I haven’t decided yet. Of course, it would be easier for me to stay here in New York or go back home to Boston. But I may go to California.
M: That would be a big move.
W: So, tell me about your plans.
M: Well, I applied to six newspapers, for people with some experience. And it seems that everyone wants to be a writer these days. There just aren’t that many jobs out there.
M: That’s OK.
M: Yes. I had hoped to have a job lined up by graduation. That doesn’t seem possible now.
W: What will you do if you can’t find a job?
M: In that case, I’ll begin working on a master’s degree in the fall.
W: Good luck!
(Text 10)
When I was twenty-five, I decided to leave England and travel to Africa. I went with my best friend, the biologist David Attenborough. We had both spent five years at university, and we had just graduated. The plan was simple. Since I was a writer and he was a biologist, I would write about our experiences, and he would study the different animals we saw along the way. First, we stopped in Egypt. We visited the famous pyramids, rode camels, and saw crocodiles in the Nile River. After that, we went to Kenya, where we had a chance to feed giraffes from the tallest trees. Then we went to Tanzania and camped in a small village. The locals there took us to see some rare animals. Last, we ended our trip in Madagascar. There, we saw an animal that I’d never seen before. I bet my friend $50 that it was a monkey, but after a quick Internet search, I learnt I was wrong. Never make a bet about animals with a biologist! When we arrived back home, I went to see David’s publisher. I showed him everything I had written about our journey. He said that he would publish it in the next National Geographic magazine!

【参考范文】
Dear John,
Both Dream of the Red Chamber and Journey to the West are Chinese literary masterpieces, but they differ greatly. The former is a realistic family story exploring love, society, and tragedy, while the latter is a mythical adventure full of humor and fantasy.
Since you’re just starting, I recommend Journey to the West first. Its exciting plot and simpler language make it more accessible. Later, you can appreciate Dream of the Red Chamber’s deeper themes. Happy reading!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
【参考范文】
She ran easily by my side. Her ears moved up and down. Her paws just skimmed the ground. “Annie,” I breathed. “It’s you.” Tears flowed down my cheeks. Annie had been my best friend for thirteen years, accompanying me everywhere. She’d seen me through adjustments to a new life, and through the launching of my writing career. Most of all, she’d taught me about courage, struggling with diseases from a very early age but still pulling herself to her feet right to the end to follow me everywhere.
This was just an illusion(幻觉), but her spiritual visit made me calm and energetic. Her magical presence reminded me I was never truly alone. I was determined to take heart and bike down the mountain safely. All fear disappeared. Then, I could no longer see Annie, but sensed her a little longer. Our group biked through upcountry of Haleakala where farms grew the freshest produce. My chest swelled with peace and joy. I wasn’t alone after all. I never would be. “Thank you, Annie,” I murmured out loud.
