Below are four must-read titles that have left a significant mark. Sunrise on the Reaping By Suzanne Collins The long-awaited prequel (前传) to the Hunger Games series has become a global hit, selling over 4 million copies. Set 24 years before the first book, it explores the origins of the cruel and tightly controlled world loved by fans. Despite the author’s unwillingness to promote it publicly, the novel strongly appeals to both teenage and adult readers — young fans enjoy the exciting plot, while older readers connect deeply with the complex characters and emotional depth. The Let Them Theory By Mel Robbins This year’s standout self-help book offers timeless wisdom for dealing with life’s troubles. Robbins encourages readers to focus on inner growth and let go of what they can’t control, drawing inspiration from ancient Stoics and visionary leaders. It’s based on the hit film Vineland. B. It centers on a detective’s mission. C. It’s filled with ancient Stoics’ wisdom. D. It tells of a cheese millionaire’s life. 23. What do the four books have in common? A. They are set in the 1930s. B. They focus on inner growth. C. They gained great popularity. D. They are all historical works. Jane Goodall was only 26 years old when she first went to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania in July 1960. While researchers understood that humans and chimpanzees (黑猩猩) were closely related, they had no knowledge about the behavior of primates (灵长目动物) in the wild. The first three months were difficult without making any meaningful scientific observations or being able to approach the chimpanzees. But Goodall finally managed to gain the trust of a male with silver hair that she named David Greybeard. In November 1960, she made an observation that would forever change the way the animals were understood. David Greybeard bent a stick and used it as a tool to clean termites (白蚁) in a nest. The ability to use tools was what scientists believed set humans apart from animals. Goodall’s career track changed after the “Understanding Chimpanzees” conference in Chicago in 1986. Although she helped organize it, the sessions she attended showed her the devastating effects of deforestation of habitats and the inhumane conditions chimpanzees faced in medical research. She told Living on Earth’s Steve Curwood in an interview in 2020 that she had no idea of the extent of the dangers the great chimpanzees faced. “I went as a scientist,” Goodall said. “I left as an activist.” Her conservation efforts started years earlier when she founded the Jane Goodall Institute which devotes a large part of its efforts to wildlife conservation and to continuing the field research in Gombe Stream National Park, according to the press release. But Goodall understood that, if we really wanted to change the world, we must get youth involved. That’s why she started the Roots & Shoots program in 1991, now active in 75 countries, to empower young people to protect the world. In January 2025, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom for her contributions to science and her advocacy for the planet. Goodall passed away on October 1, 2025. She remained active until just days before her death. Her legacy of research and advocacy will live on. 24. Why did Jane Goodall go to Gombe Stream National Park in 1960? A. To observe termites. B. To travel with scientists. C. To do a field study. D. To name a chimpanzee. 25. What does the underlined word “devastating” mean in paragraph 3? A. Disastrous. B. Beneficial. C. Significant. D. Apparent. 26. Why did Jane Goodall launch the Roots & Shoots program? A. To establish partnerships for habitat protection. B. To encourage youth participation in conservation. C. To fund scientific research on chimpanzees’ behaviors. D. To train young people to become wildlife researchers. 27. What can be inferred about Jane Goodall? A. Her research methods were doubtful. B. Her efforts were limited to chimpanzees. C. Her focus was on theoretical contributions. D. Her advocacy work had a global impact. There is a saying that knowledge is power. However, in reality, knowledge is prevention. It can often seem that natural disasters, such as wildfires, are unpredictable and cannot be prevented, but that may no longer be the case. A team of Israeli scientists from Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan has recently published a study in Scientific Reports that they have developed a new AI model that is capable of accurately forecasting wildfire outbreaks. The AI model can predict the location and timing of lightning-induced (雷电引发的) wildfires with 90 percent accuracy. This sort of model could truly be lifesaving, as climate change has heightened the occurrences and dangers of lightning-induced wildfires. The model outperformed traditional wildfire risk indexes (指数) . In order to create this highly accurate model, the researchers integrated environmental factors, data from weather systems and satellites. Dr. Oren Glickman, an assistant professor in Bar-Ilan University’s Computer Science Department, said, “Lightning-ignited wildfires are a global challenge, and our model shows it is likely to heighten with climate change. With an improved ability to predict lightning fires, meteorological services, fire departments, and emergency planners can respond earlier and more effectively, potentially saving lives and protecting ecosystems.” While the first study offered a solution globally, an additional study from Tel Aviv University, introduced an AI model aimed at more local solutions. The purpose of this model is to raise the accuracy of wildfire prediction for specific countries and locations. Basing themselves on the fairly accurate Canadian wildfire index, the researchers improved the index for specific countries through climate-informed adaptation of fire weather variables. But the researchers did not stop there. They then developed country-specific machine learning models which they simplified into decision trees. This method clocked in with an impressive 86 percent accuracy. Lightning-induced wildfires are global issues, but the weather, geography and local parameters (参数) of every given location also create very distinct and specific wildfire risks. These aspects must be taken into account when looking to make a wildfire prevention system. 28. What can be learned about the AI model developed by Bar-Ilan University? A. It predicts wildfires very precisely. B. It prevents wildfire occurrence by 90%. C. It reduces satellite data in fire prevention. D. It focuses entirely on local weather conditions. 29. What is Dr. Glickman’s opinion on AI wildfire prediction? A. It has effects on climate change. B. It should prioritize fire departments. C. It keeps ecosystems under control. D. It allows earlier emergency responses. 30. How did Tel Aviv University’s researchers improve the Canadian wildfire index? A. By introducing climate study methods. B. By avoiding the environmental factors. C. By simplifying its machine learning models. D. By adapting the weather-based risk factors locally. 31. What needs considering when creating a wildfire prevention system according to the last paragraph? A. AI models’ application. B. Global and regional factors. C. Historical disaster data. D. Local and public promotion. Music plays an important role in human emotion, social relationship, and cultural expression. Why do people enjoy music? “The answer to this big question has the potential to open a window into more general aspects of the human mind, such as how experiences become pleasurable,” says Giacomo Bignardi, first author of an international team led by scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. “We wanted to understand whether genetic (遗传的) differences between individuals can result in differences in the pleasure that people get from music and what these differences can tell us about human musicality in general,” he adds. To determine whether genetic factors contribute to music enjoyment or music reward sensitivity (敏感度) , the researchers used the twin design, which compares similarities between identical twins and fraternal twins. Put simply, if identical twins are more similar than fraternal twins, genetics should play a role. In collaboration with the MPI for Empirical Aesthetics in Germany and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, the team was able to use data from more than 9,000 twins, including self-reported music reward and general reward sensitivity, as well as their ability to understand musical features such as melody and rhythm (节奏). The team found that the ability to experience pleasure from music was partly heritable: using the twin design, the researchers were able to estimate that 54% of the variability in the Swedish sample is associated with DNA differences between individuals. They also found genetic influences on music reward sensitivity to be partly independent of general reward sensitivity and music understanding abilities, and discovered that distinct genetic pathways influenced different aspects of music enjoyment, such as emotion control, dancing along with a beat or playing music with others. “These findings suggest a complex picture in which partly distinct DNA differences contribute to different aspects of music enjoyment,” concludes Bignardi. “Future research looking at which part of the genome contributes the most to human ability to enjoy music has the potential to uncover the human gift that confused Darwin most.” 32. What is the main purpose of the research? A. To design a genetic type of music. B. To decide on the musical abilities. C. To find out music’s relation to genetics. D. To study the development of music. 33. What was a finding of the research? A. Music’s rhythm was hard to master. B. DNA affects the ways of enjoying music. C. General music reward systems determine genes. D. Music understanding abilities can be developed. 34. Why does the author mention Darwin? A. To prove animals’ musical abilities. B. To emphasize the social function of music. C. To criticize his outdated theories. D. To highlight the unsolved puzzle of music. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Genes May Influence People’s Enjoyment of Music B. Music Preferences Depend on Cultural Differences C. Music Changes Genetic Reward Sensitivity D. Enjoying Music Makes People Happy As parents, we love our children and invest years into educating them until they become grown-ups. The challenge comes in the change to viewing them as adults and treating them accordingly. ____36____ Here are some tips. Understand the landscape. ____37____ Even as we struggle to find our new role, our children are taking their roles. They hesitate about what they want. Sometimes it feels as though they desire all of the freedom with none of the responsibility! Yet with each small choice they make—even messy ones—they’re slowly learning to tie freedom and responsibility together. Encourage responsibility. As children enter adulthood, we should give up the directive role, no longer telling them what to do. ____38____ We want to step up as consultants who have their best interests in mind, while still allowing them to be in charge. ____39____ Failing to let young adults make their own decisions effectively keeps them from growing into adults. When our children are under our roofs, we can expect them to obey the rules of the household, but on their own, they are free to establish the rules. Letting young people make their own choices, even if they fail, is how they truly grow up. Mistakes teach responsibility better than constant protection. Persist (坚持) with love. That’s not to say it won’t sometimes be painfully tough to step out of the driver’s seat and be relegated (降级) to an advisory role. We are so invested in protecting our children that it breaks our hearts to see them struggle. Our protective instincts (本能) are tough to turn off. ____40____ A. Trust ourselves. B. Allow for failure. C. How do you treat an adult? D. The change is not a clear one. E. Why should we start to make some changes? F. But love means giving them space to learn to grow. G. Instead, we help them see the options for their own decisions. What started as a peaceful day off for Sarasota County lifeguard Landon Lacy turned into a dramatic life-saving mission. Every morning at 6:30, the sharp wind would blow outside my window, as if laughing at my struggle to leave my warm bed. The sky was still dark, and the frozen trees stood like statues in the heavy frost. Our school organized a morning run, a rule I considered a kind of suffering. Mr. Zhang, our teacher, often told us, “Morning running isn’t just about building a strong body; it’s about making your will stronger. If you can beat the cold, you can beat any difficulty in life.” I, however, did not believe him. To me, his words were just like the wind, passing through my ears without any effect. I became a master of “disappearing.” Sometimes I would hide in the restroom; other times, I would fake a stomachache. My classmates called me “The Ghost of the Morning Run.” While they were out there shivering, I was secretly proud of my cleverness, enjoying those stolen moments of warmth and doing nothing. One Tuesday, the temperature dropped to a record low. As I was slipping into my usual hiding spot, I saw Mr. Zhang. He was nearly sixty, yet he was standing at the front of the line, energetic and firm. I later learned he believed that as a teacher, he should be a role model to encourage us to face challenges. During the run, a student accidentally fell down. Mr. Zhang immediately stopped, knelt in the freezing wind to help the boy up, and even gave his own gloves to the shivering student. He then continued to lead the run, his thin figure steady and determined in the thick white air, inspiring everyone behind him. Watching Mr. Zhang’s figure moving away in the cold air, I felt a strong sense of guilt. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning, when the 6:30 alarm rang, I didn’t stop it to stay in bed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高二英语 考生注意: 1. What is the total number of students in the school now? A new type of red light. B. A system for watching night animals. C. A special living place for zoo animals. 19. Which color of light is used in the night animals’ living places during the day? A. Red. B. White. C. Green. 20. What will the zoo open next month? A. A night animal show. B. A Bronx Zoo-themed show. C. An Australian animal show. B 19. A 20. M: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the city zoo’s newest show, World of Darkness. Here is a new world of night animals to you. Not too many years ago, zoo visitors were unable to watch the behavior of night animals because these animals were active during the night and generally slept during the day when the zoo was open to visitors. But in the 1960s, zookeepers at the Bronx Zoo in New York City found a way to settle this problem and develop the system that we now use in our show. The animals’ living places are lit with white light at night. Then the animals think the white light is daylight, so of course, they go to sleep. During the day, their living places are lit with red light, which makes the animals think it is at night, so that they will be active. On the other hand, the red light enables visitors to watch these animals going about the normal activities at night. So just enjoy your visit to the World of Darkness and enjoy watching these amazing animals of the night. And remember, next month is the opening of World Down Under, a new show of Australian animals. Are you looking forward to learning about Australian animals in person? Well, you are lucky, just please come and join us for that event. 2025 has witnessed a wealth of outstanding books across genres (类型), attracting readers worldwide with interesting stories and thoughtful insights. C 25. A 26. B 27. 根据第一段“Jane Goodall was only 26 years old when she first went to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania in July 1960.(1960年7月,简·古道尔(Jane Goodall)第一次前往坦桑尼亚的贡贝溪国家公园,当时她只有26岁)”以及第二段“While researchers understood that humans and chimpanzees (黑猩猩) were closely related, they had no knowledge about the behavior of primates (灵长目动物) in the wild.(虽然研究人员知道人类和黑猩猩关系密切,但他们对野生灵长类动物的行为一无所知)”可知,简·古道尔1960年去贡贝溪国家公园是为了进行野外研究。 根据第三段“Although she helped organize it, the sessions she attended showed her the devastating effects of deforestation of habitats and the inhumane conditions chimpanzees faced in medical research.(虽然她帮助组织了这次会议,但她参加的会议让她看到了栖息地森林砍伐的devastating影响,以及黑猩猩在医学研究中面临的不人道条件)”和“She told Living on Earth’s Steve Curwood in an interview in 2020 that she had no idea of the extent of the dangers the great chimpanzees faced(她在2020年接受《生活在地球上》节目史蒂夫·柯伍德采访时表示,自己当时完全不了解大猩猩所面临的危险程度。)” 故选A。 根据第三段“But Goodall understood that, if we really wanted to change the world, we must get youth involved. 【答案】28. A 29. D 30. D 31. Enjoying Music Makes People Happy 【答案】32. C 33. B 34. D 35. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一项双生子研究,揭示了人类从音乐中获得愉悦感受的能力存在部分遗传基础。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段““We wanted to understand whether genetic (遗传的) differences between individuals can result in differences in the pleasure that people get from music and what these differences can tell us about human musicality in general,” he adds.(“我们想要探究个体间的遗传差异是否会导致人们从音乐中获得的愉悦感有所不同,以及这些差异能向我们揭示哪些关于人类音乐性的普遍信息。”他补充道。)”可知,研究的主要目的是找到音乐和基因的关系。故选C。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“They also found genetic influences on music reward sensitivity to be partly independent of general reward sensitivity and music understanding abilities, and discovered that distinct genetic pathways influenced different aspects of music enjoyment, such as emotion control, dancing along with a beat or playing music with others.(他们还发现,音乐奖赏敏感度的遗传影响在一定程度上独立于一般奖赏敏感度和音乐理解能力,并发现不同的遗传途径影响着音乐享受的不同方面,如情绪控制、跟随节拍跳舞或与他人合奏音乐。)”可知,研究发现基因影响人们享受音乐的方式。故选B。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Future research looking at which part of the genome contributes the most to human ability to enjoy music has the potential to uncover the human gift that confused Darwin most.(未来,探究基因组中哪一部分对人类享受音乐的能力贡献最大的研究,有望揭示出最令达尔文困惑不已的人类天赋。)”可推断,作者提及达尔文目的是强调音乐愉悦机制仍是未解之谜。故选D。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第五段“The team found that the ability to experience pleasure from music was partly heritable: using the twin design, the researchers were able to estimate that 54% of the variability in the Swedish sample is associated with DNA differences between individuals. They also found genetic influences on music reward sensitivity to be partly independent of general reward sensitivity and music understanding abilities, and discovered that distinct genetic pathways influenced different aspects of music enjoyment, such as emotion control, dancing along with a beat or playing music with others.(研究团队发现,从音乐中体验愉悦感的能力在一定程度上是可遗传的:利用双胞胎研究设计,研究人员估计,瑞典样本中54%的变异性与个体间的DNA差异有关。他们还发现,音乐奖赏敏感度的遗传影响在一定程度上独立于一般奖赏敏感度和音乐理解能力,并发现不同的遗传途径影响着音乐享受的不同方面,如情绪控制、跟随节拍跳舞或与他人合奏音乐。)”可知,文章主要介绍的是一项双生子研究,揭示了人类从音乐中获得愉悦感受的能力存在部分遗传基础。由此可推断,A项“Genes May Influence People’s Enjoyment of Music(基因或可影响人们对音乐的喜爱程度)”适合作本文的标题。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 As parents, we love our children and invest years into educating them until they become grown-ups. (运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) 第二节(满分25分) 67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 The winter in my city was very cold. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Watching Mr. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Watching Mr. Zhang’s figure moving away in the cold air, I felt a strong sense of guilt. Mr. Zhang’s words about “making the will stronger” finally began to mean something to me. I realized that while I was seeking my own comfort, my teacher was acting as a role model, protecting his students with all his heart. His red face and the kind act of giving away his gloves kept appearing before my eyes. I understood now that what I had been escaping wasn’t just the cold, but the responsibility a student should have. The warmth I had stolen felt empty. The next morning, when the 6:30 alarm rang, I didn’t stop it to stay in bed. Instead, I put on my running shoes with a new determination. The air was still freezing, but as I joined the line, a strange sense of warmth spread through my heart. Seeing me, Mr. Zhang smiled with great satisfaction and said, “Well done! I knew you could make it.” I ran alongside him, feeling the cold wind on my face and my heart beating fast.
