Last term, when Li Wei was a new student himself, he noticed that many others often got lost on the first day of school. They walked around with confused looks, trying to find their classrooms. Li Wei also remembered how nervous he felt. So he decided to do something to help the next group of new students.
He thought of making a simple map of the school. But he didn’t want to just draw it on paper. He wanted to make it more useful. He collected old cardboard boxes from the recycling bin and used them to build a 3D model of the school. He painted the buildings in bright colors and added small flags to mark the library, the gym, and each classroom building.
The project took him two weeks. His friends thought he was spending too much time on it. But Li Wei kept working. Finally, he put the model at the school gate. On the first day of the new term, many new students stopped to look at the model. “This is so helpful!” one boy said. “Now I know where to go.”
The head teacher saw the model and was very impressed. She asked Li Wei to show his work at the school assembly. “Li Wei didn’t just solve a problem,” she said. “He turned a small idea into something that benefits everyone.”
Later, the school bought the model and placed it in the front hall. Li Wei felt proud. He learned that a small act of kindness can grow into something big. He also learned that helping others is the best way to feel good about yourself.

When Stephen Hawking (霍金) was a child, he was not the best student in his class. But he had something special — a burning curiosity about the world around him.
Stephen was born in England in 1942. Even as a young boy, he loved to ask questions. “Where did the universe come from?” he wondered. “How do stars stay in the sky?” Many of his friends thought these questions were strange, but Stephen could not stop thinking about them.
He loved to take things apart. He once took apart an old clock to see how it worked. His family did not get angry. Instead, they encouraged him. His father, a doctor, often talked with him about science. His mother took him to see the stars at night. Stephen would lie on the grass and watch the night sky for hours. The stars seemed to whisper secrets to him.
At school, Stephen was not always at the top of his class, but he was very good at thinking. He and his friends made a simple computer from old parts. That was very unusual in the 1950s! He also loved mathematics and wanted to learn more about the universe.
Some people laughed at his dreams. “Why do you care about the stars?” they asked. Stephen replied, “Because they are there. And I want to understand them.”
Years later, that curious boy became one of the greatest scientists in history. His love for science started when he was young, and it never left him. Stephen Hawking once said, “Remember to look up at the stars.” And that is exactly what he did — from the very beginning.
26. What does the underlined word “burning” mean in the passage?
A. Very dangerous. B. Very strong. C. Very hot.
27. What question did Stephen Hawking wonder about as a young boy?
A. Where the universe came from. B. Why his family encouraged him. C. How to become the best student.
28. How did Stephen’s family feel when he took apart an old clock?
A. They were angry. B. They encouraged him. C. They asked him to do that.
29. Why does the writer say “That was very unusual in the 1950s!” about making a computer?
A. Because computers were very common then. B. Because computers were still very new and few. C. Because students were not allowed to make computers.
30. Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. The Boy Who Loved Stars B. Stephen Hawking’s Illness C. How to Become the Best Student
26. B 27. A 28. B 29. B 30. A
根据第一段划线词所在语境“...a burning curiosity about the world around him.”
根据第二段内容“‘Where did the universe come from?’ he wondered.”
根据第三段内容“He once took apart an old clock... His family did not get angry. Instead, they encouraged him.”
A“The Boy Who Loved Stars”最能概括文章主旨。

Do you know the greatest history book in ancient China? It is called Records of the Grand Historian, or Shiji in Chinese. Written by the historian Sima Qian about 2,100 years ago, this book changed how Chinese people wrote and learned about history.
Sima Qian lived in the Western Han Dynasty. His father was the Grand Historian and taught Sima Qian to love history. When his father died, Sima Qian took over his job. Later, he had a serious disagreement with Emperor Wu and was punished. But he never gave up. He worked hard for about 10 years to finish Shiji.
Shiji is very special. It is China’s first biographical general history. It tells stories from the legendary Yellow Emperor to Emperor Wu’s time — covering more than 3,000 years of history! The book has 130 chapters divided into five parts: Basic Annals (emperors’ stories), Hereditary Houses (noble families), Biographies (famous people’s lives), Tables (timelines), and Treatises (rules, music, and science).
Shiji records not only great achievements but also the rise and fall of dynasties. By reading it, people can learn from past successes and failures. Many famous figures appear in the book, like Qin Shi Huang (the first emperor) and Zhang Qian (who opened trade routes). It teaches us about loyalty, bravery, and wisdom. It also set a model for all later Chinese history books.
Today, people still read and study Shiji. It is a treasure of Chinese culture. Sima Qian’s story tells us: never give up, even when life is hard.

后文提到“the second on your right”,此处与之对应,表示“第一个”标记,应填first。

D
