As a lifelong cyclist, she knows well the risks people face when walking or riding bikes in these areas. Her efforts focus on “mobility justice”, which means giving everyone equal and safe ways to move around their community. Her work became more active in 2013, when her daughter started school near a dangerous street. Davis-Overstreet led a local campaign to improve safety at the crossing near the school. At that time, there were no proper traffic signals, and accidents happened often. She collected photos and videos to show the problem and worked with others to call for change. Davis-Overstreet grew up in the same area and has seen how some communities are often ignored in city planning. In many neighborhoods, especially those with large Black or Latino populations, there are few sidewalks, bike lanes (车道), or safe crossings. As a result, people who depend on walking or cycling face greater danger. In fact, most serious traffic accidents in Los Angeles occur on a small number of streets in these areas. To solve these problems, Davis-Overstreet has worked with city departments and local groups. She has supported projects such as building bike lanes, adding crosswalks, and improving public spaces. In 2011, she also created a program to educate people about safe travel and the history of Black cyclists. Although progress has been made, challenges remain. Some drivers still ignore new traffic rules, and safety improvements can take years to complete. However, changes like new traffic lights and marked crossings have already helped reduce speed and improve safety near schools. Davis-Overstreet believes that safer streets can also improve health, reduce pollution, and build stronger communities. She continues to speak out and take action, encouraging others to join her efforts. For her, real change requires courage, patience, and the determination to keep moving forward, even when progress seems slow. 24.Why did Davis-Overstreet begin her local campaign? A.To support cycling as a sport. B.To improve safety near a school. C.To reduce traffic near her home. D.To change rules for city drivers. 25.What was Davis-Overstreet’s contribution to mobility safety? A.Advancing public facilities. B.Designing new traffic rules. C.Reducing poverty in the area. D.Teaching cycling skills to children. 26.How does the author describe the results of Davis-Overstreet’s efforts? A.Slow but promising. B.Quick and fruitful. C.Limited and unimportant. D.Complete but annoying. 27.What does the author intend to convey through the text? A.Look before you leap. B.Practice makes perfect. C.Rome wasn’t built in a day. D.All good things come to an end. C About 20 million people die each year due to cardiovascular (心血管的) disease. Luckily, a team of researchers from the University of Nottingham in the UK have developed a machine-learning algorithm (算法) that can predict your likelihood of having a heart attack or stroke as well as any doctor. The American Heart Association (AHA) has developed a series of guidelines for estimating a patient’s cardiovascular risk which is based on eight factors including age, cholesterol level and blood pressure. On average, this system correctly guesses a person’s risk at a rate of 72.8 percent. That’s pretty accurate, but Stephen Weng and his team set about to make it better. They built four computer learning algorithms, and then fed them data from 378,256 patients in the United Kingdom. The systems first used around 295,267 records to generate their internal predictive models. Then they used the remaining records to test and refine them. The algorithms results significantly outperformed the AHA guidelines, ranging from 74.5 to 76.4 percent accuracy. The neural (神经的) network algorithm tested highest, beating the existing guidelines by 7.6 percent while raising 1.6 percent fewer false alarms. Out of the 83,000 patient set of test records, this system could have saved 355 extra lives, In addition, the AI systems identified a number of risk factors and predictors not covered in the existing guidelines, like severe mental illness and the consumption of oral corticosteroids (皮质激素类). “There are a lot of interactions in biological systems,” Weng told Science. “That’s the reality of the human body. What computer science allows us to do is explore those associations.” This is where AI can transform preventative medicine. By using vast datasets to uncover complex, non-linear risk interactions beyond human analysis, these algorithms can enable earlier, more precise interventions. This represents a significant step toward a future where data-driven predictions fundamentally reshape proactive healthcare, moving beyond standardized checklists to personalized risk assessment. 28.How did the researchers get the findings? A.By following the guidelines of AHA.B.By testing 20 million people. C.By asking doctors for opinions. D.By analyzing patient data. 29.What is an advantage of the network algorithm compared with the previous system? A.Higher accuracy. B.Simpler operation. C.Wider applicability. D.Lower cost. 30.What can be implied in Weng’s words in paragraph 5? A.Human bodies are too complex to study. B.AI can help explore body interactions. C.Doctors know a little about our bodies. D.There are many algorithms about medicine. 31.What is the author’s attitude towards AI’s effect on preventative medicine? A.Critical. B.Doubtful. C.Indifferent. D.Positive. D (原创)Have you ever noticed that most orange cats are male? In fact, about 80% of orange cats are males, and scientists have long been curious about this interesting phenomenon. They suspected that the orange color was a sex-linked trait hidden somewhere on the X chromosome(染色体) of domestic cats. The reason behind this lies in the difference between male and female chromosomes. Male cats, just like male humans, have one X and one Y chromosome. Therefore, any male cat with the orange mutation(突变) on its single X chromosome will display orange fur. However, female cats have two X chromosomes. Due to a process called X chromosome inactivation, female cats need the mutation on both of their X chromosomes to become fully orange, which is statistically much less likely to happen. Recently, two independent research teams have successfully located and characterized the mutation responsible for this distinctive fur color. One team was led by Hiro Sasaki at Kyushu University in Japan, while the other was led by Christopher Bryan Kaelin at Stanford University. Both groups published their exciting findings in the journal Current Biology on Thursday. The researchers discovered that the mutation responsible for orange coloration increases the activity of a nearby gene known as Arhgap36. Normally, this gene is expressed in neuroendocrine tissues. However, the orange mutation in cats causes this gene to express in pigment cells, leading to the orange fur color. The research was conducted in a cat-friendly manner. Study author Greg Barsh from Stanford University explained that his team partnered with cat lovers and community scientists to gather DNA samples from dozens of different orange cats. “It's an example of how scientists and the public can work together to not only uncover cool things, but also learn important aspects about biology,” Barsh said. This collaboration between scientists and the public made the research possible without harming any cats. This discovery also helps explain the genetics of calico and tortoiseshell cats. These cats carry the orange mutation as well. Nearly all calico and tortoiseshell cats are female because the orange mutation is found on only one of their X chromosomes. Any male calico or tortoiseshell cat is extremely rare and results from having an additional X chromosome. 32.Why are most orange cats male according to the Paragraph 2? A.Male cats like orange color more than female cats. B.Male cats eat more food that contains orange pigments. C.Male cats have stronger orange mutation ability than female cats. D.Male cats need one X chromosome with orange mutation, while females need two. 33.What did the two research teams discover about the orange mutation? A.It changes the structure of the Y chromosome. B.It decreases the activity of the Arhgap36 gene. C.It prevents X chromosome inactivation in female cats. D.It increases the activity of the Arhgap36 gene in pigment cells. 34.What can we learn from Greg Barsh in Paragraph 4? A.He argues that studying cat genetics is more important than other areas of biology. B.He suggests that DNA samples should only be collected from cats living in the wild. C.He thinks that cooperation between scientists and the public can lead to valuable scientific discoveries. D.He believes that scientific research should be conducted entirely by professional scientists in laboratories. 35.What is the main idea of this passage? A.The life habits of orange cats B.The genetic cause of orange fur in cats C.The differences between male and female cats D.The comparison between domestic cats and wild cats 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 (原创)Millions of Americans rely on weather forecasts every day. With smartphone apps, websites, TV and radio broadcasts, accurate weather information has never been easier to access. 36 Make lots of measurements. The first step in making a weather forecast is collecting data from all over the world. This includes information about wind speed and direction, precipitation, barometric pressure, and cloud cover. 37 Satellites track hurricanes, wildfire smoke, lightning activity, and ocean surface temperature. The U.S. government operates multiple weather satellites and makes all data available to the public for free. Additionally, the National Weather Service operates over 150 Doppler radar towers across the country. These radars collect information about rain, snow, wind, and even detect debris from tornadoes. 38 Once all the measurements are collected, they are fed into supercomputers run by NOAA. A weather forecast is essentially the solution to a complicated math problem, and supercomputers are capable of solving it. These computers run multiple weather models tailored to different types of weather, such as hurricane models. Besides, weather instruments are constantly being replaced, and new satellites are launched regularly. So every change must be accounted for in the computer models, requiring experts to process the data. Translate the forecast from computer-speak to human-speak. 39 The computer outputs are mostly numbers and probabilities, which must be interpreted and translated into actual weather forecasts. Professional meteorologists at over 100 National Weather Service offices around the country provide free, detailed local forecasts every few hours. When severe weather like hurricanes or tornadoes is approaching, local offices issue warnings that automatically appear on smartphones and broadcast on radio and TV. This human interpretation ensures that complex data becomes useful information for the public. In conclusion, accurate weather forecasting depends on three key steps: collecting global measurements, processing data through supercomputers, and translating results into human-friendly forecasts. 40 A.Tailor weather models in supercomputers. B.Put all the data into a weather supercomputer. C.So what should you do to acquire accurate weather forecast? D.But have you ever wondered how these forecasts are actually made? E.After the supercomputer finishes its calculations, human forecasters step in. F.Satellites and Doppler radar towers are the most powerful tools for this task. G.Each step requires advanced technology, skilled professionals, and continuous effort to keep the public informed and safe. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 30) 第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A 、B 、C 、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。 When Lucas Dull left his family’s Indiana farm for college, he did not intend to return. The sunlight made the water look bright and peaceful. Little did she know that this ordinary dive would turn into a surprising and unforgettable story. She was observing carefully when suddenly, a 2-meter-long Caribbean shark swam unusually close to her. Instead of showing any sign of danger, it opened its mouth wide, shaking slightly and moving its head, as if trying to convey intense pain. Cristina could clearly see that the shark was suffering, and she immediately realized that it needed help. Cristina got closer cautiously and was shocked to see a broken steel hook (钩) deeply stuck in the shark’s upper jaw, with broken tissues hanging from it, causing sharp pain with every breath the shark took. Without any protective tools or gloves, Cristina made a brave decision to assist. She knew it was risky, but she couldn’t leave the poor shark in pain. She first stretched out her hand to let the shark get familiar with her smell, calming it down. Then, she gently put her fingers into the shark’s mouth, carefully holding the hook stuck in the hard part of its mouth. For seven long minutes, the shark tensed its muscles and contracted its gill slits (鳃裂) in pain, yet it never bit down, as if it knew Cristina was its only hope. With a slight turn, the hook was finally pulled out, and a faint cloud of blood spread in the water. The rescued shark swam around Cristina twice, its movements becoming relaxed and steady. Glancing at the pressure in the oxygen tank, which was approaching the warning line, Cristina prepared to go up, thinking the encounter had come to an end. Her heart raced wildly, and she held her oxygen tank tightly, ready to escape at any moment. But to her surprise, the sharks swam gently around her, not showing any danger to her. The shark that she had just rescued touched her hand gently with its head, then turned and swam a short distance, looking back as if urging her to follow. She hesitated briefly before swimming after them, only to find that each of the three sharks also had broken steel hooks stuck in their mouths. Cristina decided to stay and help the suffering sharks. Though she was in great danger of running out of oxygen, she repeated the same gentle process she had used earlier, calming each shark down before carefully pulling out the hooks one by one. Sweat mixed with seawater on her forehead, and her arms ached, but she didn’t stop until all hooks were removed. As she rushed upward to the surface with the last of her oxygen, she realized that trust is a bridge between different species, and every life deserves kindness and respect. 词汇激活 行为类 ①展示:show/demonstrate ②去除:remove/ eliminate 情绪类 ①轻柔地:gently/softly ②惊讶:surprise/astonishment 【点睛】[高分句型1].
