Where should we stay? Your decision may depend on how much time you have and what you want to see the most. If you plan on visiting Yellowstone National Park for only a few days and want to experience some of the main attractions, then West Yellowstone would be a good base. If you want to have the full park experience, then perhaps lodging (住宿) at Old Faithful would be a good choice. If you want to view the most wildlife, then we suggest the Northeast Entrance. When is the best time to visit the park? This depends on what your interests are. Spring has abundant wildlife, roaring waterfalls and wild weather. Summer has it all including the most crowds, so you'd better get out early and eat your breakfast on the road! Fall is a special time of year. Everything seems to be declining including the crowds. Winter is a time of being a bit of social isolation. In years past it was more "economical" to visit most of the park. Now it is more restricted unless you can afford a snow-coach or guided snowmobile tour. Can I get Cell and Wi-Fi? Free public Wi-Fi is available at Al-bright Visitor Center and at some park lodges for registered guests. Cell service is extremely limited, with reception only available in or near major developed areas. In summer, service often reaches its limit in these areas. Yet, it is sad to see the latest generation fade away from normal everyday activities and conversation. Get out, look around, admire the wonders. There're plenty of natural and human distractions around every corner. The last thing we want to do is distract visitors from Yellowstone's wonders especially while driving. 21.How much is the entrance fee in total if Jeffery makes a self-driving trip to Yellowstone with his father and his 14-year-old daughter during the winter vacation? A. $50 B. $85 C. $105 D. $125 22.The underlined sentence implies that _______. A. most of the park was restricted to visitors in winter in the past B. visiting Yellowstone in winter is preferred by most local people C. winter used to be the best time to visit the park in terms of expenses D. nowadays most people choose to tour the park on a snow-coach in winter 23.We can learn from the passage that _______. A. the wireless connection is not satisfactory B. Old Faithful provides a full view of the park C. the entrance ticket applies to Yellowstone only D. younger generations make up the majority of park visitors B I donˈt remember exactly when my love for second-hand books began, but I remember walking along the footpaths of Kings Circle, where my aunt lived, to make my birthday money stretch further by seeing just how many Agatha Christies I could buy. For many like me, there is a joy that comes from looking through other peopleˈs collections—and often accidentally discovering the kinds of writing you had not known existed. That is, after all, what second-hand bookshops were created for, I think. It was in Literati Bookshop in Goa that I picked up my son Reˈs first cookbook—My Learn to Cook Book, originally gifted to a Sherry in 1973 by Aunty Banso and Uncle Keki, going by the inscription (题字) inside. Also written alongside, in a different handwriting, was “Sherryˈs first cooking book”. Maybe this was done by Sherry or her parent. I canˈt tell. What I can say is that they did have a lot of fun cooking from this book as Re and I did—we made baked potatoes, zoo biscuits and fruit cakes from the recipes inside. Yashasvi Vachhani, a Mumbai-based writer and a second-hand book lover, said, “I once picked up a copy of Embers by Sandor Marai which had notes and thoughts written in green ink on the margin (边缘). The whole experience of reading the book was like having a conversation with the previous reader, agreeing with a few points, and adding my own thoughts. It was a great experience, one I still remember fondly.” The most precious second-hand book experience for me was receiving a copy of a dictionary that my late father-in-law had lovingly saved since it was first gifted to his son in 1980 and then came to mine, 38 years later. “I feel like a part of history, mamma!” Re said, when he read the inscription inside from his grandfather to his father. He is. We all are when we hold a second-hand book in our hands. 24.Why does the author like visiting second-hand bookshops? A. She is on a very tight budget. B. She is quite into old editions. C. She comes upon unexpected finds. D. It enables her to meet like-minded people. 25.What can we learn about Reˈs first cookbook? A. It witnessed much family cooking time. B. It was passed down through generations. C. It recorded Sherryˈs cooking journey in detail. D. It was intended as a gift from his aunt and uncle. 26.What can we learn about Yashasvi Vachhaniˈs experience of readingEmbers? A. She shared her thoughts with the previous reader. B. She took pleasure in reading the handwritten notes. C. She tried not to be influenced by the handwritten notes. D. She agreed with just a few points the writer made in the book. 27.Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. My idea about book shopping B. Old books: a hidden part of family history C. My passion for reading second-hand books D. Reading: a family tradition that has been passed down C Sometimes a book comes along that isnˈt just “interesting” or “well done”—itˈs a book where it seems like the author looked into your brain and wrote a book specifically for you. A book like that for me was released last week. Itˈs called 100 Things Weˈve Lost to the Internet, written by editor Pamela Paul. Paul lists 100 things we used to do that the Internet has either changed or taken over completely: writing letters, printing newspapers, the joys of being bored, and not having all the knowledge in the world in your pocket. As I often accumulate random knowledge, certain entries on the list—Being the Only One, Figuring Out Who That Actor Is—hit me where I live; remembering detailed facts is no longer nearly as impressive when everyone has the capability to find the answer in seconds. On and on the list goes, with every minor shift adding to the pile. What this book does so well is illustrate the growth of that pile; while any individual item might be no big deal, the collected set is significant. Itˈs a list of ways in which the world now is different from the world then. Obviously, Paul isnˈt saying that everything back then was better. Time marches on, after all, and itˈs tough to argue against the many benefits that the Internet has brought into our lives. But that isnˈt really the point. Itˈs not about whether it used to be better. Itˈs that it used to be different. 100 Things Weˈve Lost to the Internet is a fun read for those of us who share some of Paulˈs memories and experience. We remember what it was like and we like to remember. The landscape has shifted, and no doubt it will shift again as technologyˈs advancement continues apace(高速地). This book serves as a reminder of the simple truth that when gains are made, sometimes something is lost. 28.What is the purpose of the text? A. To review and recommend a good read. B. To comment on the effect of the Internet. C. To argue for the viewpoint of a new book. D. To urge the readers to value what they have. 29.Which might be entries on Paulˈs list? A. Maps and Eye Contact. B. E-pay and Compact Disks. C. Postcards and Homeschooling. D. Photos and Washing Machines. 30.What does the underlined part “hit me where I live” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Prove what Iˈm good at. B. Introduce how I grew up. C. Describe the place I live in. D. Speak out what is on my mind. 31.What conclusion has the author drawn after reading Paulˈs book? A. Things in the past are better. B. Thereˈre no gains without pains. C. The Internet is a double-edged sword. D. Technology is constantly changing the world. D Chinese researchers have revealed the anti-cancer characteristic of neutrophils (嗜中性粒细胞)—a type of white blood cells—and the related molecular regulation mechanism, providing new insights into cancer diagnosis and treatment. The discovery, made by researchers at the Shanghai Institute of Immunity and Infection under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fudan University, was published in Cell on Tuesday. Neutrophils are the most abundant white blood cells in the human body. As the first line of defence against infections, they play a key role in anti-infection immunity. The researchers collected neutrophils from 143 patients with 17 different types of cancer and analysed them. They revealed that neutrophils can adopt at least 10 highly specialized and distinct functional states related to inflammation (炎症), blood vessel formation and—most excitingly—presenting antigens (抗原) to activate powerful cancer-killing T cells. “We were surprised to find such complexity and different roles within neutrophils, which have been ignored for so long,” said Zhang Xiaoming, a researcher at the Institute. “What is especially remarkable is their newly discovered capacity to act as antigen-presenting cells, gathering T cells against cancer. In addition, the abundance of antigen-presenting neutrophils is associated with improved condition across many cancer types revealed in this study,” he said. “This completely changes how we perceive neutrophils in the context of cancer,” said Gao Qiang, a professor at Fudan University. “Now we know we could employ the diverse hidden identities of neutrophils to strengthen the effectiveness of immunotherapies (免疫疗法). Weˈre thrilled to further explore the potential benefits of these newly uncovered mechanisms in clinics.” The study emphasizes the value of single-cell sequencing approaches to reveal new functional dimensions even within seemingly well-understood immune cells. Tapping into the hidden potential of neutrophils may provide new insights into cancer diagnosis and treatment. 32.How was the anti-cancer function of neutrophils discovered? A. By referring to a previous research. B. By collecting and analysing data. C. By seeking guidance from experts. D. By observing patients with inflammation. 33.Which of the following is a function of neutrophils? A. Getting together T cells when needed. B. Preventing the formation of antigens. C. Speeding up the blood flow. D. Distinguishing different types of cancer. 34.Whatˈs Gao Qiangˈs attitude towards the new research? A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Unclear. 35.What can be the best title for the text? A. Blood cells successfully fight against severe cancer B. China makes great progress in fighting against diseases C. Further research is needed to fight against cancer D. Researchers discover new cancer-fighting mechanism Digital citizenship Everyoneˈs talking about “digital citizenship”, but what is it?      (36)    . On one shift, I sensed something just before going off duty at 11 am. I put down the tray(托盘) on the table and suddenly it fell off the table. At first I thought I had accidentally knocked it over, but then I felt the whole building shaking and heard patients were screaming.     I realized that an earthquake was happening. I quickly caught hold of a nearby patient, who was terribly frightened and pushed her under a bed. And then, I got under another bed myself. As soon as the earthquake stopped, I decided to try and get the patient safely outside. I carried her out and helped her down to the grassland, where several other people had gathered.     Afraid that my other workmates were in danger, I went back inside the building again. When I met Lucy, our ward sister(护士长), I found her patient couldn't walk. We made a seat for the patient by linking our hands and arms, and carried her outside together. We went back through the building to check no one was left behind in our ward(病房).     Just then, we saw that a man doctor was calling for volunteers to go down to other wards with him to help more people. So we went together. The doctor went ahead of us and found one of the nurses partially covered with rubble(碎石), luckily still alive. Suddenly, the aftershock(余震) struck and the doctor ordered us to leave. The brave doctor intended to stay alone and risk his own life to save the nurse. Paragraph 1:     However, without any hesitation, we made up our minds to stay with the doctor and save the nurse together.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Paragraph 2:       Later in the afternoon, I had time to look around and saw some destroyed buildings. Therefore, I'd like to advocate protecting the environment not only for ourselves but also for our future.      ①It is our duty to protect the environment, and I think we can develop some good habits of environmental protection. To begin with, it is a good choice to go to school on foot or by bike. What's more, turn off the lights and other electrical appliances before leaving the room. In addition, never throw rubbish here and there. Last but not least, saving water is also of great importance.      ②Only when everyone spares no effort to protect the environment can we build a society in harmony with nature. Let's work together to make our planet better to live on! The Students' Union 第二节读后续写(满分25分) Paragraph 1 However, without any hesitation, we made up our minds to stay with the doctor and save the nurse together. The doctor encouraged the trapped nurse to stay calm, and in the meanwhile ,we focused our efforts on removing the bricks and the rubble that trapped her body. However, sometimes we were faced with falling rubble from time to time, despite which we continued. Gradually and slowly, we lifted the nurse out of the rubble. The doctor put the nurse on his back and walked out of the building with the help of us. Finally, all, including patients, nurses and doctors, were in the safe place. Paragraph 2 Later in the afternoon, I had time to look around and saw some destroyed buildings. My beautiful workplace lay beyond recognition, even some in ruins. At the sight of this, I felt a weight in my chest. Suddenly, the gentle wind danced around me, which made me think of all the people surviving the earthquake with our help. It was our teamwork that made a difference. The whole experience of reading the book was like having a conversation with the previous reader, agreeing with a few points, and adding my own thoughts. It was a great experience, one I still remember fondly.” 根据全文,尤其是全文首句“I donˈt remember exactly when my love for second-hand books began…”和全文末句“We all are when we hold a second-hand book in our hands.” 根据第一段中的“itˈs a book ... for you”和第三段中的“As I often accumulate ... hit me where I live”可知,作者认为一本好书的作者似乎就在洞察你的内心,由于作者经常积累各种随机的知识,故入选该书的某些事物吸引了作者;由此可推知,Being the Only One, Figuring Out Who That Actor Is应该是说出了作者的心声。 根据最后一段中的“This book serves as a reminder of the simple truth that when gains are made, sometimes something is lost.” 根据第二段“The researchers collected neutrophils from 143 patients with 17 different types of cancer and analysed them. They revealed that neutrophils can adopt at least 10 highly specialized and distinct functional states related to inflammation (炎症), blood vessel formation and—most excitingly—presenting antigens (抗原) to activate powerful cancer-killing T cells.”(研究人员收集了143名患有17种不同类型癌症的患者的嗜中性粒细胞,并对其进行了分析。 根据第三段“What is especially remarkable is their newly discovered capacity to act as antigen-presenting cells, gathering T cells against cancer.”(特别值得注意的是它们新发现的作为抗原呈递细胞的能力,聚集T细胞对抗癌症。) 故选A。 34. 根据倒数第二段“ This completely changes how we perceive neutrophils in the context of cancer...”(这完全改变了我们在癌症背景下对嗜中性粒细胞的看法……)和“Now we know we could employ the diverse hidden identities of neutrophils to strengthen the effectiveness of immunotherapies (免疫疗法). Weˈre thrilled to further explore the potential benefits of these newly uncovered mechanisms in clinics.”(现在我们知道我们可以利用嗜中性粒细胞的各种隐藏身份来加强免疫治疗的有效性。 通读全文,尤其是由第一段“Chinese researchers have revealed the anti-cancer characteristic of neutrophils (嗜中性粒细胞)—a type of white blood cells—and the related molecular regulation mechanism, providing new insights into cancer diagnosis and treatment. The discovery, made by researchers at the Shanghai Institute of Immunity and Infection under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fudan University, was published in Cell on Tuesday.”[中国研究人员揭示了嗜中性粒细胞(一种白细胞)的抗癌特性和相关的分子调控机制,为癌症诊断和治疗提供了新的见解。 42. 根据上文“who has made several very important medical __________”可知,当被问到他为什么他能比一般人更有创造力(creative)。 43. 根据下文“that occurred when he was a child”可知,Stephen Glenn回应道他的创造力来自他小时候和母亲的一次经历(experience)。 44. 根据下文“giving him a lecture or chastising him”可知,Stephen Glenn的妈妈并没有对他大声吼叫(yelling)或指责他。 45. 根据下文“whenever you make a mess like this”可知,妈妈告诉Stephen Glenn他制造了一个伟大而美妙的混乱(mess)。 46. 49. 根据下文“he could __________ without dropping it”可知,他们在尝试找到一种能拿瓶子又不掉(dropping)的方法。 50. 根据上文“The little boy learned if he grasped the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands”可知,Stephen Glenn发现了成功做到(make it)的方法。 51. 根据下文“Instead, he learned that mistakes ...” 54. 根据下文“Even if the experiment doesnˈt work”可知,此处指科学实验(experiments)。 55. 根据上文“he learned that mistakes were just __________ for learning something new”可知,即使实验不成功,我们通常也能从中学到一些有价值的(valuable)东西。 故填which。 57. 故填With。 59. 此处为句型“It + be + adj.+ that...”,it作形式主语,位于句首,首字母大写。故填It。 60. 故填an。 61. 故填has organized。 62. 故填is picked。 64. 【亮点词汇】 ①to begin with首先 ②advocate提倡 ③in addition此外 【高分句型】 ①It is our duty to protect the environment, and I think we can develop some good habits of environmental protection.(it作形式主语) ②Only when everyone spares no effort to protect the environment can we build a society in harmony with nature.
