As the 2026 Year of the Horse draws near, four cute Spring Festival Gala mascots (吉祥物) catch people’s attention. They are Qiqi, Jiji, Chichi and Chengcheng. Their names together mean “galloping forward (骐骥驰骋) ”, which perfectly matches the gala’s theme, “Unstoppable Momentum” (势不可挡).
Qiqi comes from the Li Ju Zun, a valuable Western Zhou artifact (文物). With a blue-black coat, it looks serious and elegant. Wearing the head decoration “danglu” and tidy hair, Qiqi seems polite, energetic and full of hope for moving forward.
Jiji is designed after Han Dynasty sky horses. Its body copies the national treasure Bronze Galloping Horse (铜奔马). With wings spread wide, it seems to chase the sun through clouds, showing a spirit of trying hard to do better.
Chichi is modeled on the Tang Dynasty Three-Flowered Horse. This kind of horse got its name because people cut its neck hair into three parts. Chichi looks lively and happy, and its tied-up tail makes it look brave and cool. It shows a confident and calm way of acting.
Chengcheng is based on the Przewalski’s horse (普氏野马), the only living wild horse species (物种) on Earth. China has the largest population of them, which is a big success in wildlife protection. Chengcheng represents harmony between humans and nature.

Pang Zhongwang, a doctoral student at Tsinghua University, was named one of “Touching China’s 2024 Persons of the Year” on August 16, 2025. On Sunday, Pang said that he would promise to work hard and live up to his late mother’s expectations.
Pang was born in 1998 in Wuqiao county, Cangzhou city, Hebei province. His life was not easy — his father had a long-term illness, his mother was disabled, and he himself suffered from congenital heart disease, which means he was born with a problem in his heart, and that he likely required medical attention throughout his life. Despite these challenges, he stayed positive because of his mother’s encouragement. “She smiled every day — so why should I feel sad?” he recalled.
In 2017, Pang successfully entered Tsinghua University’s Department of Precision Instruments with a high score. At first, he felt a lot of pressure because of high expectations, but later, he discovered his love for research. Because of his hard work, he was directly admitted to the PhD program. Sadly, his mother died before seeing his success.
Pang doesn’t usually talk about his feelings. Instead of saying words, he chooses to respect his mother by taking action. His mother once hoped that he would work for the country, so he decided to focus on scientific research. He believes that the Chinese people are strong enough to face any difficulty bravely. “No matter how hard life is, I will keep moving forward with courage,” he said.
29. What is the main idea of the passage?

It’s normal to feel nervous before a test. But if you feel so nervous that you get a headache, sweat, or want to throw up, you may have test anxiety.
Students with greater test anxiety often get lower grades. Researchers in Türkiye wanted to see if there was a simple way to help these students.
In Türkiye, eighth-grade students take a national high school entrance exam. Doing well in the exam is important for getting into good high schools and top universities.
For the study, 162 eighth-grade students were introduced to a breathing exercise program three months before the exam. Twice a week for eight weeks, they did 15—20 minutes of breathing exercises before school.
They learned to use their diaphragm to take deep breaths. They also did the “lion’s breath” from yoga—sticking out their tongue and breathing out strongly. They also learned other ways to manage stress.
Before and after the program, the students took an anxiety test. By the end of the eight weeks, their anxiety scores had decreased by an average of 11%.
The researchers believe that breathing exercises are a cheap and effective way to help middle school students reduce anxiety, especially before important exams.
So if you feel nervous about a test... first, just breathe.
34. What might happen to a student with test anxiety?
A. They may get better grades.
B. They may feel very relaxed.
C. They may have a headache or feel sick.
D. They may forget everything they have learned.
35. Why is it important to do well on the exam in Türkiye?
A. Because the exam is very easy to pass.
B. Because students can choose not to take it.
C. Because it tests only math and science.
D. Because it helps students get into good schools and universities.
36. How often did the students do the breathing exercises?
A. Once a week. B. Twice a week.
C. Every day. D. Three times a week.
37. What was the result of the eight-week breathing exercise program?
A. The students’ anxiety scores went up.
B. The students felt more stressed.
C. Their anxiety scores dropped by 11% on average.
D. The students stopped taking exams completely.
38. What did the students learn to do in the breathing exercise program?
A. They learned to eat healthy food and drink more water before exams.
B. They learned to sleep longer and watch less television before school.
C. They learned to study math and science harder for the national entrance exam.
D. They learned to use their diaphragm to take deep breaths and do the “lion’s breath”.

On April 13, doctors at Beijing Tiantan Hospital did a special operation. For the first time in China, they showed the whole operation live on the internet. The patient was a young man who could not move his arms or legs because of a car accident two and a half years ago. Doctors put a device called “Beinao No.1” into his head.
What is a brain-computer interface (BCI)? It is a technology that lets the brain talk directly to a machine. The machine reads the brain’s electrical signals and translates them into commands. With BCI, a person can control a robotic glove or a computer cursor just by thinking. They do not need to use their muscles or nerves (神经).
“Beinao No.1” is a semi-invasive BCI. That means doctors only need to make a small hole in the skull (颅骨). The electrodes (电极) are placed outside the brain’s protective covering. This way, the operation is safer than fully invasive BCIs, but it can still pick up brain signals well.
Why is BCI important? For people who cannot move because of a serious spinal (脊髓的) injury, BCI gives new hope. After the device is put in and the patient practices, they may be able to do simple things again—like holding a cup, picking up an object, or drinking water by themselves. Some patients have even shown signs of nerve recovery after using BCI for a long time.
Doctors say the cost of the operation itself is not too high, but the device is still expensive because it is very new. As the technology improves and more people use it, experts believe BCIs will become cheaper in the future.
39. How long had the patient been unable to move before the operation?
A. For one year. B. For two and a half years.
C. For five years. D. For half a year.
40. What does the word “translates” in paragraph 2 most likely mean?
A. 翻译 B. 改变 C. 转换 D. 发送
41. Where are the electrodes placed in a semi-invasive BCI?
A. Inside the brain. B. On the patient’s hand.
C. Outside the brain’s protective covering. D. On the computer screen.
42. What can patients possibly do after practicing with the BCI?
A. Run a marathon. B. Write a book.
C. Hold a cup and drink water. D. Drive a car.
43. What does the passage say about some patients after long-term use of BCI?
A. Their memory became better. B. They showed signs of nerve recovery.
C. They no longer needed the device. D. They could speak a new language.

五、阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
阅读短文,根据题目要求完成各小题。
Recently, Chinese scientists introduced a tiny drone (无人机) that looks just like a mosquito (蚊子). This little robot was made to watch places secretly, and it has caught wide attention after being shown on CCTV 7, China Central Television’s military channel.
What makes this drone special? First, its appearance — flapping wings and legs as thin as hair — makes it almost impossible to tell it apart from real insects (昆虫). Second, its tiny size gives it amazing abilities: it can slip into almost any space, from narrow gaps to crowded rooms, without being noticed. Though it was mostly made for military spy work, many people think it could also be used by the government for public monitoring.
Let’s talk about its details. The drone was only 1.3 cm long — about the size of a grain of rice — and could be controlled easily with a smartphone. It had leaf-shaped wings, three small legs, and flew much more quietly than bigger drones. Its creators say it’s so well-hidden that even careful observers might miss it. Plus, it can do many tasks: for example, flying into disaster zones too dangerous or hard for humans to reach, or checking air quality when equipped with small sensors.
Of course, this “mosquito drone” isn’t perfect. While its small size is its biggest strength, it’s also a weakness. Because it’s so tiny, its battery doesn’t last long — maybe just a few minutes. And since it can’t carry heavy things, it can only use a few simple sensors or tools at a time.
All in all, this invention shows how Chinese scientists are using advanced technology to create smart tools. Maybe in the future, ________.

36. How often did the students do the breathing exercises?
A. Once a week. B. Twice a week.

【答案】范文:
Dear classmates,
As we all know, “Health is the first”. Our school is going to hold a “Healthy Living Week”. I’m writing to call on everyone to live a healthy life.
Health is the foundation of our study and growth. Without good health, we can hardly keep energetic in class or enjoy our daily life. So we should develop healthy habits: eat more fresh vegetables and fruit instead of junk food, get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, and do sports like running or playing basketball regularly. To take part in this activity, we can join the school sports meeting, take part in the “Healthy Diet” speech, and even invite our friends to give up bad habits together.
Let’s start from small things and keep healthy together!
Thank you!
