Passage 1
The Seine is a beautiful river which goes through France. However, the Seine has been seriously polluted. There are even laws that do not let people swim in the water. Raphael wanted to clean the river. He wanted people to swim in the Seine in the future.
Cleaning the river was a big job, Raphael fished rubbish out of the river. He had done it nearly every weekend for the past two years. He fished with his dad. They could catch a ton of rubbish in a single day.
Raphael learned about cleaning rivers from YouTube. In 2019, he found a video. People were fishing metal (金属) objects out of rivers. They used ropes tied to magnets (磁铁). That Christmas, Raphael asked his parents for supplies. He wanted some ropes, a hook (鱼钩), and a powerful magnet. The magnet was very strong. It could attract metal objects weighing more than a ton.
When he began, fishing for metal was just a lazy weekend activity. But Raphael soon saw just how much rubbish there was at the bottom of the river. He wanted to do more. “It became like a full-time job,” he said.
Raphael won an award for his efforts (努力). He received the Medal of Paris. Raphael was confident about his progress in the last two years. A section of the Seine was clearer than the rest of the river. That was where he first started fishing for metal.

Passage 2
Dogs are the most popular pets in the world. They make us happier and healthier, but scientists have found that they can also harm the environment in some ways.
One main trouble is dog waste. Unlike wild animals that live on natural food, pet dogs eat processed food, so their waste can pollute soil and water. When left on the ground, dog poop (排泄物) washes into rivers during rains, spreading something harmful to the environment. In cities, dog waste is one of the top causes of water pollution.
In some natural areas, dogs also cause problems. Studies show that when dogs walk through forests, the number of birds and small animals becomes smaller. The smell and sounds of dogs can make wild animals avoid these areas. Some even leave their babies behind. In countries like Australia, pet dogs have hurt or killed local animals, including rare penguins (企鹅). This is bad for nature because many plants need these animals to help them grow and spread their seeds (种子).
There are over 700 million pet dogs worldwide, and their large numbers are making things worse. The problem isn’t dogs themselves, but how people look after them without thinking about nature.
Since dogs will always be our important family, we need to find ways to enjoy the time with them while also protecting the environment. Simple actions like cleaning up after our pets and keeping them away from special natural areas can make a big difference. Since we share the earth with many other living things, it’s our responsibility (责任) to keep it safe for everyone.

Passage 3
More and more people choose paid study rooms with cute tables and chairs, green plants, pretty walls and quiet computer keyboards. To build a friendly learning environment, some rooms have low light to help people focus on (专注于) their work. Some places have sunrooms and learners can enjoy beautiful nature from large windows. The workers will tell people to keep quiet in the study areas.
“We hope to offer a perfect learning place to people who want to study.” said Wang Yi, founder (创始人) of a 24-hour paid study room. “Over the past six months, the number of people coming was much bigger than we first thought, so we are now looking for new places.”
Feng Jia comes to the paid study room every day to prepare for exams. “There are not enough seats in public libraries. Also, there are many people talking or walking around.” he said. At home, it is even harder to focus because of phones, snacks and pets.
While many people welcome the paid study rooms, others are afraid that these rooms will replace libraries. Xu Qiang, director of the Shanghai Library’s reader service centre believes that public libraries and paid study rooms are satisfying the different needs of people. “People come to public libraries for the large number of books, while they go to the study rooms for the learning environment.” said Xu.

Passage 4
Have you ever heard of a famous charity called Operation Smile? We hope we can help you understand how we are trying to help children all over the world.
Operation Smile was started by a doctor and his wife. In 1982, together with some volunteers, they went to Philipines to help children who had holes in their lips or inside their mouths. It was very difficult for them to eat and drink. These volunteers worked very hard. But they worried that they could not carry on with the work because they were short of money. Then they decided to start a charity so that they could help these needy children. They called it Operation Smile.
Operation Smile works in more than twenty developing countries and has cured over 300,000 children who have problems with their mouths. Operation Smile has won many prizes for its work and in 1999 they even started a special event called “The Journey of Hope”. 5,000 children in 18 countries were cured during the event.
On the other hand, Operation Smile trains local doctors and nurses in developing countries so that they can continue to help children when Operation Smile has left. As to the children with much more serious problems, they will send them to the USA for further treatment.
So show your kindness to the needy children now. You can send your donation to Operation Smile at local banks. Many thanks from the children who can smile now will come to you.

Passage 5
Many people love travelling to different countries, but if you plan to go abroad, you should know how to behave in different situations around the world.
Most travellers enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes you can be rude without saying anything. In Russia, you should never shake hands in a doorway, and if you’re travelling in Thailand, never touch people’s heads or point your feet at people. When the Japanese meet new people, they like giving business cards—you should read the card carefully, not just put it in your pocket.
In most countries in Europe, people expect a lot of eye contact (接触) when you talk to them, but in many Asian countries a lot of eye contact seems unfriendly. In South America people usually stand quite close to each other when they talk, but in countries like the USA, you need to give people more personal space. Also, it’s rude to interrupt Japanese people while they are talking to you. You must wait until they finish before you start speaking.
In restaurants in China you can leave a bit of food on your plate, and it’s OK to start smoking before other people finish eating, which you mustn’t do in the UK. Also avoid leaving empty bottles on the dinner table in Russia—that’s bad luck.
With so much to think about, it’s not surprising that many people prefer (更喜欢) going on holiday in their own countries—or you might just decide to stay at home!

C.Failure is the mother of success. D.When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
Passage 6
“Come and play with me,” the little prince suggested. “I am so unhappy.”
“I cannot play with you,” the fox said, “I am not tamed.”
“Ah! Please excuse me,” said the little prince. But after some thought, he added: “What does ‘tame’ mean?”
“It means to set up ties,” said the fox. “To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy...But if you tame me, we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique (独一无二的) in all the world.”
“Please tame me!” said the fox. “You must be patient. Sit down a little distance from me, like this, in the grass. I will watch you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the cause of misunderstandings. But each day, you may sit a little closer…”
The next day the prince returned. “It would have been better to come at the same hour,” said the fox. “If you come at four o’clock, I shall begin to be happy by three. The more time passes, the happier I’ll feel. But if you come at any random (随意的) time, I’ll never know when to prepare my heart.”
So the little prince tamed the fox. And when it’s time to leave...
“Ah,” said the fox, “I shall cry.”
“It is your own fault,” said the prince, “I never wished you harm, but you wanted me to tame you.”
“Yes,” said the fox, “But now, look at the golden wheat fields. They will remind (想起) me of your hair. And I shall love the sound of the wind in the wheat...”
Then he added, “Go and look again at the roses. You’ll understand yours is unique. Remember: Real importance is unseen.”

Passage 10
Technology is everywhere. We see it any place we go and, in fact, almost all of us carry some piece of technology with us every time we leave the house. What I always forget, though, is just how useful and powerful technology can be when we want to help others.
There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices (设备) lying around in it. Whenever I am at home, I am almost always using at least one electronic device. If you walked into my living room on any given day, you would find that, first, I have the television on. At the same time, I usually have my laptop resting on my knee, or I will be using my mobile phone. Even when I’m not at home I am always using my phone, and at work or in cafés, I sit down and connect to the local wireless network on my laptop.
I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer and the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering.
The technology we carry about everywhere can have a great power to do good for the world and to help others and recently I discovered just how much online volunteering there is to do in the world. From using your language skills to do translations, to developing and managing projects and helping with IT work, there is so much that so many people can do to help people in their own countries and across the world. The United Nations, in fact, has a huge page with “Volunteers Recruited” on its website.
This work can support the poor and help charities who cannot pay for staff. Many organizations only require you to work an hour a week—some even less. And the support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need.

C.inventing electronic products D.helping people in need
4. What can be the best title for the passage?

Passage 11
Phileas Fogg was a rich English gentleman, who lived a very regular life. One day, he made a bet with his friends at the club: he could travel around the world in eighty days. All his friends thought it was impossible, but Mr Fogg was sure he could do it. That same evening, he left London with his servant Passepartout, and started their amazing journey.
They took the train to France, then a ship to India. In India, they saved a beautiful young woman named Aouda, who was going to be killed in a local tradition. Aouda joined them on their journey, and they became good friends.
During the trip, they met many difficulties. There was a terrible storm on the sea when they were travelling to Hong Kong. The ship was almost broken, and they lost a lot of time. The biggest trouble was Detective Fix. Fix followed them all the way because he thought Mr Fogg was a bank robber, and he followed them all around the world, trying to arrest them.
But Mr Fogg never gave up. He always found a way to solve the problems. When the railway stopped in the middle of India, he bought an elephant to continue the trip. When they missed the ship to Japan, he hired a small boat to get there. He cared more about keeping his promise to his friends, and making sure his travelling companions were safe.
After many adventures, Mr Fogg and his friends finally returned to London. They thought they had missed the deadline, but later they found out they had arrived one day earlier, because they had travelled east around the world. Mr Fogg won the bet, and he also found true love with Aouda.

Passage 12
In the digital age, “cloud travel” has become more and more popular among young people. With a click or a swipe, you can “visit” many places at home without going out. Some people say cloud travel will take the place of on-site travel, but I believe the two can never replace each other.
Cloud travel has many advantages. First, it is convenient and low-cost. You don’t need to spend money on flights, hotels or tickets. You can visit any place at any time. Secondly, it can give a more detailed introduction to the places. Many programs have professional guides to explain the history and culture. What’s more, it is environmentally friendly. It produces no carbon emissions and won’t damage the environment or relics.
However, on-site travel has its special charm. The most important thing is the immersive (沉浸式) experience. You can feel the wind, smell the flowers, hear the waves and talk with local people. These sensory (感官的) experiences can never be replaced by a screen. As the saying goes, “Seeing is believing.” Only when you stand in front of the Nanjing City Wall can you truly feel its greatness; only when you walk along the Qinhuai River can you truly understand its beauty.
On-site travel also brings unexpected surprises and sweet memories. These wonderful moments can’t be experienced through cloud travel.
In my opinion, cloud travel and on-site travel are not opposites (对立的). Cloud travel is good for people without time or money. On-site travel gives you real experiences. We can use cloud travel to broaden our horizons, and use on-site travel to feel the real world.
1. What is the main advantage of cloud travel mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A.It can provide immersive sensory experiences.
B.It is convenient, low-cost and environmentally friendly.
C.It can bring unexpected surprises and memories.
D.It can help you make new friends during the trip.
2. Which of the following is NOT true about cloud travel?
A.It needs people to pay for flight and hotel tickets. B.It can let people visit far attractions at any time.
C.It has professional guides to explain attractions. D.It won’t produce carbon emissions from transportation.
3. Why does the writer mention the Nanjing City Wall and Qinhuai River in Paragraph 3?
A.To introduce the famous tourist attractions in Nanjing.
B.To show that on-site travel can bring a real immersive experience.
C.To compare the differences between Nanjing’s attractions and other places.
D.To prove that cloud travel can provide a detailed introduction to attractions.
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Cloud travel will replace on-site travel in the near future.
B.On-site travel is better than cloud travel in every way.
C.Cloud travel and real travel can go well together.
D.People should choose on-site travel instead of cloud travel.

1. What does the underlined word “processed” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Found in nature. B.Freshly cooked. C.Made in factories. D.prepared at home.
2. What happens when dogs walk through forests?

B.Dogs kill some wild animals for food.
C.Birds and small animals become more active.
D.Wild animals are afraid of dogs and they run away or hide.
3. What is mentioned in the passage about dogs and the environment?
A.Dogs can help protect nature in some ways.
B.Dogs sometimes leave their babies behind in natural areas.
C.Dog waste washes into rivers and pollutes water when it rains.
D.It’s hard for dog owners to take action to protect the environment.
4. What is the writer’s attitude (态度) towards keeping dogs as pets?

1. From Paragraph 2, we can know that the writer .
A.uses technology a lot B.works in a café
C.is a computer engineer D.likes modern music
2. The underlined word “Recruited” in Paragraph 4 means “________”.
A.Ordered B.Wanted C.Visited D.Warned
3. In the writer’s opinion, people should spend more time ________ with technology.
A.working on computer programs B.keeping the Internet safe
C.inventing electronic products D.helping people in need
4. What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Website Design B.Internet Organizations
C.Online Volunteering D.Online Translation
【答案】1. A 2. B 3. D 4. C
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 文章主要讲述了作者从日常大量使用科技产品,到发现科技可以用来做在线志愿服务,并认识到这种服务能帮助他人、改变世界的过程。
【详解】1. 根据第二段中的“There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices (设备) lying around in it. Whenever I am at home, I am almost always using at least one electronic device.”可知,作者家中到处是电子设备,而且他几乎总在使用至少一种设备,因此可以推断作者大量使用科技产品。
2. 根据第四段中的“there is so much that so many people can do to help”和 “The United Nations, in fact, has a huge page with ‘Volunteers Recruited’ on its website.”可知,联合国在网站上发布信息,希望征集志愿者。Recruited在此意为“招募/征募”,与Wanted(招聘/需要)意思最接近。
3. 根据第三段中的“the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering”和第五段中的“And the support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need.”可知,作者认为花在科技上的时间应该更多地用于在线志愿服务,去帮助有需要的人。因此可以推断作者主张用科技帮助他人。
4. 根据第四段中的“how much online volunteering there is to do in the world”和第五段中的“online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need”可知,全文核心内容是介绍和倡导在线志愿服务。前两段讲科技使用是引子,后三段重点都在讨论 online volunteering。故“Online Volunteering”作为标题最合适。

【答案】1. B 2. A 3. B 4. C
【导语】本文是一篇议论文,主要讨论了云旅游和实地旅游各自的优势,并指出二者并非对立,可以相互补充。
【详解】1. 第二段中明确提到云旅游的优点:convenient and low-cost(方便且低成本)、can give a more detailed introduction(提供更详细的介绍)、environmentally friendly(环保)。其中,convenient、low-cost、environmentally friendly 是该段的核心概括,因此B项正确。
2. 第二段指出云旅游“You don’t need to spend money on flights, hotels or tickets”,因此不需要支付机票和酒店费用,A项与原文相反,故错误。
