Li Ming, a 14-year-old boy from Ruijin, Jiangxi, used to spend his winter vacation watching TV or playing games at home. He thought history lessons were boring and showed little interest in the red history his grandfather often told about.
This winter was different. His school organized a “Follow the Red Army” study trip to visit red places around Ruijin. Li Ming went on the trip. Children in the UK are getting new online lessons to help them stay safe from online scams (欺诈).
The news came after the UK Safer Internet Center published a report. The report said that almost half of children aged 8 to 17 in the UK had been scammed online. About 20 percent of them meet online scams every day.
According to the report, social apps are the most common place for scams. Scammers often use pictures of nice-looking people to trick kids. For example, a scammer might send you a message saying they are a supermodel. They might say they like your photos and want to know more about you.
Online games are another space where scams happen, especially to kids aged 8 to 11, said the report. Scammers may promise kids in-game money if they visit a website. That allows scammers to get players’ personal information.
