主题01 人与自我——个人经历
Passage 1
(24-25高一下·江苏常州·期末)
Losing my job, I am depressed nowadays. My son has lost his admission to a good school. We have moved from a big house to a smaller one to reduce our living expenses. My wife has a lot of extra stress. On top of that, her father died a week ago, which has added fuel to the fire, putting our family in a worse situation. And now I have had an accident, too!
In these conditions, I have two mental choices: either to feel depressed and keep thinking about my problems, losing my peace of mind and affecting my family life; or replace my negative (消极的) thoughts with super mental powers that depend on self-confidence, positivity, and keep applying for new jobs with a positive attitude.
I choose the second option because I believe that the pain I am experiencing today will strengthen my character. My strengths will then improve my confidence and make me a successful man one day. I understand that time does not stop and does not remain the same. I understand that good and bad days are part of the package called life. While good times make me happy, bad times strengthen the ‘inner’ me. I believe in the quote which says that God takes men into deep waters not to drown them, but to clean them. I also believe in the four spiritual powers; one of which says that whatever is happening is the best thing that could have happened.
After two months, I got a job which is very exciting, full of professional exposure and offers a nice salary. Time has healed my wife’s mental stress due to the death of her father, although such a loss is irreplaceable. My son and daughter have got admission to a good school.

Passage 2
(24-25高一下·江苏扬州·期末)
From her window in rural Aberdeenshire, Laura never fails to enjoy the natural beauty and reflect on the great changes life has brought.
The pretty farm on a hillside in Strichen was a world away from her life just a few years ago. Now, besides brilliant countryside views, she looks out for the daily tricks of Shaun, a characterful sheep who has changed her life unimaginably. Adopting (收养) him as a lamb inspired Laura to write a hit children’s book, “Shaun’s New Home”.
Laura decided to reinvent her life as she approached her fortieth birthday. After her husband Edward lost his job, they set up a home-based business. Inspired by their neighbours who moved to Banff and sent amazing countryside pictures, they decided to live the dream before it was too late. They bought a property (庄园) in Strichen and relocated 450 miles north.
As word got round about their love of animals and their willingness to take in those needing a fresh start, the field at the farm became home to ducks, chickens, pigs and so on. But Shaun’s arrival was the real life changer. She adopted him as a companion for Clyde, a tiny little lamb. Shaun, who had been with farm dogs, had puppy-like features. He followed Laura around, loved shaking its tail, and was very adorable.
Laura started recording the playful behaviour of Shaun, Clyde and other adopted animals. She would imagine what they might be saying to one another, and Edward suggested she turn those ideas into a book.
“I never imagined I could write a book, let alone find a publisher,” Laura said. “So, calling myself an author and seeing my book become popular is beyond my wildest dreams. It’s all about discovery, love and belonging, and being able to share that is wonderful.” Laura has been reading Shaun’s adventures to children in primary schools, while also writing book two.

Passage 1
(23-24高一下·江苏南通·期末)
On August 21, 1911, a plumber (水管工) in the Louvre Museum in Paris noticed a man standing in front of a door, unable to open it because of the missing doorknob (门把). The plumber used his key to open the door for the man, who was dressed in a white uniform of the Louvre’s maintenance staff (维护人员). In fact, the unknown man had something very valuable hidden underneath his uniform: Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
The security was unbelievably terrible, especially on a painting with the then-insignificant reputation of the Mona Lisa. No one was even aware of the theft (偷窃) until the next day when a painter named Louis Beroud came to copy the painting. An alarm was raised, and police later found the glass box in a service stairway.
Days passed, but no evidence was found. Great anger quickly grew and spread among the public and press. But no one could even figure out a motive for the theft. “Why the theft happened is a mystery to me, as I consider the picture valueless in the hands of a private individual,” said the assistant curator (馆长), Monsieur Benedite.
Two years of silence followed, and the theft was almost forgotten. Then a man calling himself“Leonardo”contacted Alfredo Geri, an art dealer in Florence, Italy, saying he had the Mona Lisa and meant to return the painting to da Vinci’s homeland. Geri managed to talk“Leonardo”into bringing the painting to Florence, promising him 500, 000 lire for his effort. The police were brought in and“Leonardo”was found to be Vincenzo Peruggia, a house painter, with a little secret ambition in life.
After a lengthy trial, Peruggia, for some reason, was only sentenced to one year and 15 days in jail, later reduced to seven months and nine days. Despite different versions of the story in some details, the punishment proved to be a small price to pay for the greatest art theft of the 20th century.
1.Why did the plumber help the thief open the door?
A.He just played his part in their plan.
B.He cared little about the painting at all.
C.He took the man for a common worker.
D.He worried about being killed by the thief.
2.What contributed most to the success of the theft?
A.The safety measures weren’t strict. B.The police didn’t try their best at all.
C.The picture enjoyed significant fame. D.The assistant curator was irresponsible.
3.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.A further description of the Mona Lisa. B.A reasonable doubt about the theft.

4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Peruggia was slightly punished for the theft.
B.People then showed little interest in the theft.
C.The theft added to the value of the Mona Lisa.
D.The thief paid little money for the Mona Lisa.
Passage 2
(23-24高一下·江苏盐城·期末)
A few years ago I took my sons for ice cream, and while my older son went inside to buy us our milk shakes, my younger son and I waited on the bench (长椅) outside.
At a certain point I realized that sitting right next to me were a little girl with a facial deformity (畸形), her friend (or sister), and her mother.
When my younger son looked up and saw her, he reacted exactly the way you might think a three-year old would react when seeing something that scared him: he started to cry—pretty loudly, too. I hurriedly tried to push him away in the stroller (婴儿推车), not for the benefit of him but to avoid hurting the girl’s feelings, and in my haste I caused my older son to knock over the shakes, and, well, it was a scene quite different from what I had hoped for. But as I pushed my younger son’s stroller away I heard the little girl’s mom say, in as sweet and calm a voice as you can imagine, “Okay, guys, I think it’s time to go.” And that just set me thinking.
For the rest of the day, I couldn’t stop thinking about how that scene had played out. It occurred to me that they probably went through something like that hundreds of times a day. What would that be like? What could I be teaching my children so they could understand how to respond better next time? What I should have done, instead of trying to avoid the situation, was involve the girl and her mother in conversation. If my son cried, so be it: kids cry. I should have set a better example for him, and shown him there was nothing to fear.
As I was thinking about the scene, the song Wonder by Natalie Merchant came on the radio that night, and something about the words to the song just got to me. That very night, I started writing Wonder, a story about a boy with a facial difference.
1.What made the younger son cry?
A.That his mother pushed him away. B.That his brother upset the milk shakes.
C.That he was unwilling to react to the girl. D.That he was scared by the girl’s appearance.
2.The underlined word “haste” in paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________.
A.hurry B.doubt C.sorrow D.turn
3.Why did the author keep thinking about the scene?
A.She regretted not behaving properly. B.She regretted not comforting her son.
C.She wanted to write a novel based on it. D.She wanted to clear up the misunderstanding.
4.What does the author want to express through the story?
A.Don’t judge a book by its cover. B.One good turn deserves another.
C.A kind gesture can reach a wound. D.Think twice before making a final decision.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·江苏镇江·期末)
In the small town of Greenfield, a remarkable community garden project has been transforming an empty lot into a place of beauty and unity.
The empty lot, located on Main Street right at the heart of the town, was once filled with rubbish, while weeds (杂草) grew wildly, reaching up to knee height. But a group of passionate local residents, led by the energetic and determined Mrs. Thompson, saw potential. They firmly believed that this barren space could be turned into something extraordinary, and thus, the idea of a community garden was born.
With the help of the town council, which provided funding, and the local hardware store, which generously donated gardening tools, the project finally got off the ground. Volunteers of all ages from across the town eagerly joined in. Children, their faces beaming with excitement, helped pick up small pieces of trash, while adults worked hard to till the stubborn soil. The elderly, sharing their rich gardening experience, guided the younger ones on the best planting methods. Together, they planted a diverse range of vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers, fruits such as strawberries, and colorful flowers that would bloom in different seasons.
As the garden succeeded, it became the new heart of the community. Neighbors who had previously only exchanged brief nods started having long, friendly conversations. They shared valuable gardening tips over cups of coffee, and on sunny weekends, the garden was filled with laughter during lively picnics. The local school actively participated as well. Regularly, science classes made their way to the garden, an exciting laboratory where students were able to have hands-on experience.
The community garden not only beautified the town, replacing the shabby lot with a green oasis (绿洲), but also had far-reaching practical impacts. The abundant produce (农产品) was shared among the volunteers, and a significant amount was donated to the local food bank, bringing warmth and nutrition to those in need. (24-25高一下·江苏淮安·期末)
Monica is a professional doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Growing up in Wyoming, she was well aware of the lack of health care resources in countrysides. Access to in-depth health care for cancer (癌症) patients is hard to get. She’s worked throughout her life to change that.
In Wyoming, there’s a great distance to travel between where people live and where they can find a cancer doctor. “If you need treatments and they have to be done every day, and if it’s 120 miles from where you live, it is very hard to receive the kind of care you need.”
And now Monica serves as the president of the Coalition (联盟) of Cancer Cooperative Groups (CCCG) — an international network of individuals who work to improve the quality of life and survival of cancer patients by taking part in cancer clinical trials more.
She said, “One of the important things is that we’re trying to make sure cancer clinical trials can reach every single patient who needs them in my own state.” The coalition set up sites in northern and southern Wyoming that are able to run clinical trials. Before those trials, patients would usually go to Denver or Salt Lake City — a three-to-seven-hour drive.
Monica’s efforts to increase access to the health care needs of her patients also include helping to develop new policies that will allow patients to take part in more clinical trials, and linking them with a regional doctor who can get them the access to the care they need.
Besides the clinical trials, Monica said that technology’s progress like better cell phone and internet service in the mountains of Wyoming, as well as social media, has helped local people stay in touch with medical professionals despite their distance. She will continue to support those changes.
“I still consider myself part of Wyoming and I am very devoted to making sure that patients can get access to health care.”

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·江苏锡山高级中学·期末)
When concert pianist Paul Barton moved to Thailand, little could he have expected where life would take him. Instead of performing for classical music lovers on stage, Barton’s audience are old and injured elephants. He spends his time playing everything from Bach to Beethoven to these huge animals.
The idea first came to Barton while he made a YouTube video in Thailand. It was there that the elephant-lover found out about Elephants World. This sanctuary (保护区) cares for old, injured and disabled elephants. After contacting the manager, Barton decided to give his first concert. What happened was something he would never forget. “The first time I played the piano at Elephants World, a blind elephant called Plara was having his breakfast. But when he heard the music, he suddenly stopped eating his food and stayed still all through the music. Plara was not the only one,” shares Barton.
The piano “concerts” are held in the open. Elephants are not forced to listen. In fact, Barton notes that the music itself appears to attract them, as many come closer for a listen. Some move slowly to the song. Some hold their trunk (象鼻) in their mouth as they listen, and others even put their trunk on the piano and begin to sing along.
For Barton, this work is part of an effort to attend to these huge animals. Their stress and pain will disappear as they listen to music. “All I can think of is that we work to make the lives of elephants better in the ways we can,” explains Barton. “Elephants are emotional animals. There’s a special connection between us. We’re communicating with each other in a different language.”
Barton has posted videos of these amazing moments to his YouTube, which has over 300,000 followers. Each of the videos is a moving look at how music influences these animals. Barton’s work is a bridge that brings together humans and animals.

Passage 3
(24-25高一下·江苏徐州·期末)
Babusha, or “eight-step sands”, got its name because the desert was always just eight steps away from the farmers’ doors. Today, the desert’s southward movement has been stopped thanks to a green belt planted in the last 40 years by Guo Wangang and his colleagues. As a result, Guo was named a National Moral Model in 2020.
Guo is only part of the second generation of “soldiers” to fight against the desert. His father was one of the six men who first began planting trees in Babusha. When Guo’s father fell ill in 1983, he hoped that his son would follow in his footsteps.
Guo remembers being reluctant to give up his stable government job. “My father repeatedly stressed that we had to make sure our farms weren’t eaten by the desert,” Guo said, adding that he eventually agreed to work at the farm because he didn’t want to see the trees die.
However, it was the deadly sandstorm in 1993 that turned Guo into a determined “soldier”. The fast moving brown wall of dust reached high into the sky and turned day into night. Guo was working in the desert with his colleagues when it hit. They only managed to get home after trekking for six hours in darkness. Later, he learned that 23 students were found dead in a river as they tried to get home from school during the sandstorm.
Since then, Guo and his colleagues have continued planting trees every spring and fall, pruning (修剪) them in winter and watching out for fire. Their struggle continues. Today more and more young people have joined with scientific and innovative methods. For example, the farm now is subsidized (资助) by Ant Forest, a public welfare project launched by the e-commerce giant, Alibaba. It rewards users with virtual energy in exchange for low-carbon activities, which can then be used to do things, like having trees planted.
“We need more such young people to help us find other advanced and engineering methods for desertification control,” said Guo Wangang.

A.He advised his father to stop planting trees.
B.He was unwilling to give up his stable job.
C.He immediately agreed to work at the farm.
D.He was determined to fight against the desert.
2.Which marks the turning point in Guo Wangang’s desert-fighting career?
A.Finishing the green belt.
B.Winning National Moral Model title.
C.Seeing his father’s falling ill.
D.Experiencing a deadly sandstorm.

A.To show young people’s creative methods.
B.To advocate the low-carbon way of living.
C.To praise Ant Forest’s unique contribution.
D.To indicate Guo and his team’s difficulties.
4.What does the author try to express with Guo’s story?
A.Well begun is half done.
B.One tree doesn’t make a forest.
C.Opportunity favours only the prepared mind.
D.Nothing is too difficult if you put your heart into it.
3.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段的“For example, the farm now is subsidized (资助) by Ant Forest, a public welfare project launched by the e-commerce giant, Alibaba. It rewards users with virtual energy in exchange for low-carbon activities, which can then be used to do things, like having trees planted.(例如,这个农场现在得到了蚂蚁森林的补贴,蚂蚁森林是电商巨头阿里巴巴发起的一个公益项目。它用虚拟能源来奖励用户进行低碳活动,这些虚拟能源可以用来做一些事情,比如种树)”和最后一段““We need more such young people to help us find other advanced and engineering methods for desertification control,” said Guo Wangang.(郭万刚说:“我们需要更多这样的年轻人来帮助我们找到其他先进的工程方法来控制荒漠化。”)”推知,提到“蚂蚁森林”是为了表明年轻人具有创意的方法。故选A。

Passage 1
(23-24高一下·江苏无锡·期末)
Like almost every set of new parents, Bryan and Elizabeth Shaw started taking pictures of their son, Noah, practically from the moment he was born.
When he was about three months old, Elizabeth noticed something odd when she took his picture. The flash on their digital camera created the typical red dot in the center of Noah’s left eye, but the right eye had a white spot at the center, almost as if the flash was being reflected back at the camera by something.
When Elizabeth mentioned the strange phenomenon to their doctor, she shined a light into Noah’s eye, saw the same white reflection, and immediately sent the family to an eye expert.
A white reflection instead of a red one is an obvious sign of eye cancer, and that is exactly what Noah had. He went through months of treatment, but doctors eventually could not save his eye. Retinoblastoma, the scientific name of Noah’s tumor (肿瘤), is treatable if discovered early.
Bryan Shaw couldn’t help but wonder whether there were signs he’d missed. He went back over every baby picture of Noah he could find — thousands of them — and discovered the first white spot in a photo taken when Noah was 12 days old. As time went on, it appeared more frequently. “By the time he was four months old, it was showing up in 25 percent of the pictures taken of him per month”, Bryan said, who was a chemistry professor at Baylor University in Texas.
It was too late for Noah’s eye, but Bryan was determined to put his insights to good use. He created a database that recorded the cancer’s appearance in every photo. He also collected photos and gathered the data from eight other children with retinoblastoma. Equipped with that data, he began to work with coworkers in Baylor’s computer science department to develop a smartphone app that can scan the photos in the user’s camera roll to search for white eye and can be used as a kind of instrument for examining the eyes.
Called White Eye Detector, it is now available free of charge on Google Play and in Apple’s App Store. “I just kept telling myself, I really need to do this,” Bryan said. “This disease is tough to detect. Not only could this software save vision, but it can save lives.”
1.What made Noah’s eyes fail to be treated?
A.The oddness of the eye disease.
B.The lack of advanced equipment.
C.The ignorance of the doctor.
D.The delayed detection of the disease.
2.How could the app detect the eye disease?
A.It could identify white eye with enough data.
B.It could compare the eyes in different pictures.
C.It could scan the database recorded by Bryan.
D.It could analyse the shape of different eyes.
3.What does “this” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Raising people’s awareness. B.Creating White Eye Detector.
C.Sharing the app for free. D.Detecting eye cancer early.
4.Which of the following words can best describe Bryan?
A.Creative and selfless. B.Generous and brave.
C.Devoted and honest. D.Patient and determined.

(23-24高一下·江苏淮安·期末)
When Gary Leung completely lost his eyesight nearly 15 years ago, it almost destroyed him. The Hong Kong native fell into hopelessness. Just at that time, he found long-distance running.
Now in his 50s, Leung has since completed the 100-kilometer Antarctic Ice Marathon, becoming the first blind person to do so. He even attempted the 400 km “Ultra Gobi”, thought to be one of the most challenging foot-races in the world. Recently, he is fresh off a 2,300 km charity run in Japan.
The Japanese “Dark Run 2023” was divided into 40 days, meaning Leung and his guide runners—connected by a string attachment—ran an average of more than 50 km per day. The run was aimed at raising money for young people with serious illnesses and showing them that all people have obstacles (障碍), but we must face them head-on and with bravery.
Though Leung can’t physically see things in front of him, he says that doesn’t make him fearful of running long distances now. He thinks there’s no need to be scared for those who are lacking in something. The universe will equip them with other talents. And they are never alone, just like he wasn’t alone on this run. His guide runners gave up their own holidays and put their own money in to fly over and support him.
“I want to pass down the spirit. I’m not young anymore and won’t be able to run these distances much longer,” he says, smiling. “I want to help my younger friends with similar experiences to learn to love exercise. Doing physical activities is not as easy for them as it is for able-bodied people, so I want to set up a stage where we can continue to bring things to them—and for them to do the same for more.”

A.A cure for his eyes. B.A tool for making a living.
C.A way out of life’s worst. D.A form of physical exercise.

Wei Yuansong is the director of the Laboratory of Water Pollution Control Technology. In his office drawer is a thank-you letter written by an entire Sri Lankan village, containing memories of a decade-long fight against a killer, Kidney (肾) Disease, which had troubled villagers for years because of their lack of safe drinking water.
Wei says that his connection to Sri Lanka began in August 2013, when he received an email about collaboration (合作) on water treatment to address Kidney Disease, which was a major public health issue in Sri Lanka, with over 40,000 people affected by the disease since the mid-1990s. In 2016, then Sri Lankan President referred to it as a “national disaster” that was affecting 20,828 patients and causing 5,000 deaths a year.
In August 2014, Wei made his first visit to Sri Lanka to start an arduous research journey with Weragoda, a Sri Lanka scientist. Each day, they traveled for hours along rough roads deep into the affected areas, and paid home visits to villagers. They were greeted with cold shoulders. “Many local residents thought that the Chinese, like others, were there to write papers, not to sincerely help them,” Wei says. The two scientists had to hold difficult conversations to win their trust, but were eventually welcomed to take extremely important samples (样本) for their research.
Following some research and detailed discussions between the two sides, a deal was inked in March 2015, enabling joint research into the causes of Kidney Disease and-drinking water safety. Since then, Wei has frequented Sri Lanka with other Chinese scientists to conduct thorough research into water treatment solutions suitable for local conditions.
Local residents now trust Chinese scientists wholeheartedly. Villagers with kidney disease say they haven’t had to go to hospital for years thanks to the help of Chinese scientists.

At 90 years old, Barby Keel is proving that compassion (同情心) knows no age limit. Over the past 54 years, she has devoted her life to rescuing animals in need — saving an estimated 10,000 from neglect, abuse, and abandonment through the Barby Keel Animal Shelter in Sussex, England.
What started with a simple favor in the 1970s — caring for a soldier’s dog while he was stationed in Northern Ireland — turned into a lifelong mission. The dog never left, and soon Barby was asked to take in a few cats. Decades later, her shelter now spreads 12acres and is home to more than 600 animals.
Barby spent the first 20 years running the shelter entirely on her own, and today she is supported by a devoted team of volunteers. Despite having faced cancer three times, she still wakes at 7 a.m. every day to care for her beloved animals and says she “never” takes a day off. “Some days I am tired out — it’s hard work,” she said. “But then I get a little nose touch or a face look up at me, and I remember why I’m doing this. My animals come first and always will.”
Today, the shelter is a nonprofit that relies entirely on public donations. It recently reopened to the public and welcomes visitors every Sunday through October 2025, free of charge. Guests can meet the animals, visit the café and gift shop, and learn more about the lives that have been saved. Barby also uses her own pension (养老金) to buy amounts of pet food, which she resells at low prices to help struggling pet owners.
“I’m so thankful for my brilliant team of volunteers and all the kind people who support us,” she said. “I know I can’t do everything anymore, but I still get up early to feed the cats and check on them all. Jen Miller isn’t your typical librarian, because she’s also a TikTok star. There are dozens of books placed on top of her shelves, waiting to be processed and shelved or to have their spines (书脊) and covers repaired. She’ll broadcast that process for her more than 450,000 followers once the school day ends.
Miller’s account, “Meet Me in the Media Center,” is a fixture on “LibraryTok,” a community of creators who also happen to be librarians. As budget (预算) cuts threaten the familiar spots many are attached to, Miller and other members of LibraryTok are bringing joy back into the library experience. “I just want students to love to read and feel welcome here,” Miller told CNN. “I don’t want them to stress about late fees or damaged books—just to feel safe.”
Since joining TikTok in 2023, Miller has attracted an enthusiastic fanbase of viewers who enjoy watching her do her job. There’s an everyday appeal to Miller’s content, which resonates (共鸣) with many viewers nostalgic (怀旧的) for their school days. It’s there in the familiar sound her scanner (扫描仪) makes when a book is returned on time, or in the joy viewers get when they spot books on her shelves that they loved reading in middle school. Miller said commenters have repeatedly referred to her as a “comfort creator,” a view she considers as “the highest praise ever.”
Some viewers have been inspired to support their favorite LibraryTok personalities offline. Miller started the “Library Love” series to feature different librarians seeking donations for items like picture books, desks and cleaning supplies. Her followers bought out the entire wishlists of seven libraries, she said.

C.The process of the thief’s being caught. D.The importance of bringing in the police.
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Peruggia was slightly punished for the theft.

【答案】1.D 2.A 3.A 4.C

1.What do cancer patients in the countrysides of Wyoming need most?

1.What was Guo Wangang’s first reaction to his father’s request?
A.He advised his father to stop planting trees.
B.He was unwilling to give up his stable job.
C.He immediately agreed to work at the farm.
D.He was determined to fight against the desert.
2.Which marks the turning point in Guo Wangang’s desert-fighting career?
A.Finishing the green belt.
B.Winning National Moral Model title.
C.Seeing his father’s falling ill.
D.Experiencing a deadly sandstorm.
3.Why does the author mention Ant Forest?
A.To show young people’s creative methods.
B.To advocate the low-carbon way of living.
C.To praise Ant Forest’s unique contribution.
D.To indicate Guo and his team’s difficulties.
4.What does the author try to express with Guo’s story?
A.Well begun is half done.
B.One tree doesn’t make a forest.
C.Opportunity favours only the prepared mind.
D.Nothing is too difficult if you put your heart into it.
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.D
【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述经过Guo Wangang和同事们几十年的努力,“八步沙”治理效果明显。
1.细节理解题。根据第二段的“When Guo’s father fell ill in 1983, he hoped that his son would follow in his footsteps.(1983年,当郭的父亲生病时,他希望儿子能追随他的脚步)”和第三段的“Guo remembers being reluctant to give up his stable government job.(郭记得他不愿意放弃他稳定的政府工作)”可知,Guo Wangang对父亲请求的第一反应是不愿意放弃稳定的政府部门工作而去种树。故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据第四段的“However, it was the deadly sandstorm in 1993 that turned Guo into a determined “soldier”.(然而,正是1993年那场致命的沙尘暴让郭成为了一名坚定的“战士”)”可知,经历一场致命的沙尘暴标志着Guo Wangang治理沙漠的转折点。故选D。

主题02 人与自我——生活故事

Passage 2
1.What does long-distance running mean for Leung?
A.A cure for his eyes. B.A tool for making a living.
C.A way out of life’s worst. D.A form of physical exercise.

A.He was guided while running. B.He managed it by himself.
C.He sought help from the organizers. D.He took advantage of public transport.
3.What can be inferred from Leung’s words in the last paragraph?
A.He is ready to challenge longer running.
B.He is too tired to go on with charity work.
C.He wants young people to follow his example.
D.He thinks running is easy for the blind to take up.
4.Which words can best describe Leung?

4.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Now in his 50s, Leung has since completed the 100-kilometer Antarctic Ice Marathon, becoming the first blind person to do so. He even attempted the 400 km “Ultra Gobi”, thought to be one of the most challenging foot-races in the world. Recently, he is fresh off a 2,300 km charity run in Japan.(现在50多岁的Leung已经完成了100公里的南极冰马拉松,成为第一个完成这一壮举的盲人。他甚至尝试了400公里的“超级戈壁”,这被认为是世界上最具挑战性的徒步比赛之一。最近,他刚完成在日本2300公里的慈善跑)”以及最后一段““I want to pass down the spirit. I’m not young anymore and won't be able to run these distances much longer,” he says, smiling. “I want to help my younger friends with similar experiences to learn to love exercise. Doing physical activities is not as easy for them as it is for able-bodied people, so I want to set up a stage where we can continue to bring things to them—and for them to do the same for more.”(“我想传承这种精神。
Passage 3
(23-24高一下·江苏镇江·期末)
Two words can sum up the life of Dr. Catana Starks — determination and achievement. Now the story of one of her many accomplishments — she’s the first African-American woman in history to coach a male college sports team — is a movie!
The story is about Starks, who was the golf coach at her alma mater (母校) Tennessee State University, a traditionally Black College in Nashville. Starks’ unique coaching style and her achievements in the face of many challenges in, her position and in life is what will leave audiences inspired. She had to drive the team bus, wash her players’ golf, clothes, and had to constantly find places for her team to practice. Starks credits her strength to one woman in her life — her mother.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Starks was diagnosed with severe asthma (哮喘). Doctors told her mother she could never participate in sports. “My mother, she had an almost mystical belief of not being limited by circumstances”, says Starks, “so I grew up with a basketball goal in the backyard.” Asthma wasn’t the only challenge; she grew up in the segregated (被隔离的) South of the 1940s, “I learned to swim. I had to walk four miles in Mobile to get to a Black pool”.
After getting the men’s golf coach job, Starks couldn’t find golfers. None of the males on campus would play. “Originally that didn’t work out because I was female,” said Starks. She had to innovate by recruiting (招聘) internationally, via telephone. The calls attracted players from Sweden to South Africa. During nearly twenty years in her charge her former players have differentiated themselves throughout the world including: Sam Puryear, the former Michigan State University golf coach-the first African American in its history, and Robert Dinwiddie, an All-American golfer at TSU and a current member of the European Tour having achieved three continuous Top-10 finishes in South Africa. Starks’ determination really paid off when the T-State Tigers won the National Minority Golf Championship in 2005. And another specialty for her career, ninety percent of the players graduated!
1.Which of the following is NOT a challenge Starks faced in her career?
A.Being the team bus driver. B.Doing the laundry for her players.
C.Walking to the Black swimming pool. D.Finding places for team practice.
2.What did Starks learn from her mother?
A.A positive attitude towards life. B.A strong will to overcome tough situations.
C.A willingness to push the limits of her body. D.Her unique coaching style.

C.she was suffering asthma D.she was short of experience
4.The achievements of Starks’ players are mentioned to illustrate ________.

2.推理判断题。根据第二段“Starks credits her strength to one woman in her life — her mother.(斯塔克斯把她的力量归功于她生命中的一个女人——她的母亲)”以及第三段“My mother, she had an almost mystical belief of not being limited by circumstances (我的母亲,她有一种几乎神秘的信念,那就是不被环境所限制)”可推知,斯塔克斯从母亲那里学到了克服困境的坚强意志。故选B。

4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“During nearly twenty years in her charge her former players have differentiated themselves throughout the world including: Sam Puryear, the former Michigan State University golf coach-the first African American in its history, and Robert Dinwiddie, an All-American golfer at TSU and a current member of the European Tour having achieved three continuous Top-10 finishes in South Africa. Starks’ determination really paid off when the T-State Tigers won the National Minority Golf Championship in 2005. And another specialty for her career, ninety percent of the players graduated!(在她执教的近20年里,她的前球员们在世界各地都崭露头角,包括:萨姆·普里尔,前密歇根州立大学高尔夫教练,该校历史上第一位非裔美国人;罗伯特·丁威迪,田纳西州立大学的全美高尔夫球手,欧洲巡回赛的现役成员,在南非连续三次进入前十名。2005年,当T州立大学老虎队赢得全国少数民族高尔夫锦标赛时,斯塔克斯的决心真的得到了回报。她职业生涯的另一个特点是,90%的球员都毕业了!)”可推知,斯塔克斯的球员们取得了辉煌的成就,这说明了“有什么样的老师就有什么样的学生”或者“名师出高徒”。故选A。

Passage 2
(24-25高一下·江苏常州·期末)
This July, Wei attended a research workshop at the JRDC. “This is my 31st trip to Sri Lanka. We aim to bring more benefits to the Sri Lankan people through scientific cooperation,” he said.
1.Why did the villagers write a thank-you letter to Wei Yuansong?
A.For his help with water treatment.
B.For his research on public health.
C.For his contribution to their economy.
D.For his efforts to fight Kidney Disease.
2.What does the underlined word “arduous” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Time-consuming. B.Difficult.
C.Ground-breaking. D.Dangerous.
3.What was the first reaction of the villagers to the Chinese scientists?
A.They were excited. B.They were surprised.
C.They were worried. D.They were uninterested.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·江苏南通·期末)
It’s a lovely life.” Her secret to staying strong? “Hard work and a breakfast of beans every morning.”
1.What originally made Barby set up the animal shelter?
A.Her wish to make friends.
B.Her desire to gain reputation.
C.Her promise to look after a dog.
D.Her intention to raise pet animals.
2.Why does Barby continue her work despite the challenges?
A.The shelter needs donations.
B.She hopes to treat her disease.
C.She wants to earn more money.
D.The love for animals inspires her.
3.Which of the following can best describe Barby?
A.Selfless and determined. B.Strict and intelligent.
C.Generous and knowledgeable. D.Honest and innovative.
4.What does the writer intend to tell us?
A.Volunteers are essential for animal shelters.
B.Running an animal shelter is extremely difficult.
C.Many animals are suffering from bad conditions.
D.Age does not limit one’s ability to make a difference.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.D
根据第二段中“What started with a simple favor in the 1970s — caring for a soldier’s dog while he was stationed in Northern Ireland — turned into a lifelong mission.(上世纪70年代,一个简单的帮忙——在一名士兵驻扎北爱尔兰期间照顾他的狗——变成了一项终身使命)”可知,Barby最初是因为答应照顾一只狗,后来才逐渐发展建立了动物收容所。故选C项。
2.细节理解题。根据第三段中Barby的话“But then I get a little nose touch or a face look up at me, and I remember why I’m doing this. My animals come first and always will.(但当我感受到它们用鼻子蹭我或者抬头看着我时,我就想起我为什么要做这件事。我的动物永远是第一位的)”可知,Barby对动物的爱激励着她尽管面临挑战仍继续工作。故选D项。
3.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Barby also uses her own pension (养老金) to buy amounts of pet food, which she resells at low prices to help struggling pet owners.(Barby还用自己的养老金购买大量宠物食品,然后以低价转售给经济困难的宠物主人)”可知,她无私地帮助他人,体现了她的无私。再根据第三段中“Despite having faced cancer three times, she still wakes at 7 a.m. every day to care for her beloved animals and says she “never” takes a day off.(尽管三次患癌,她仍然每天早上7点起床照顾她心爱的动物,并且说她“从不”休假)”可知,她不顾自身困难坚持照顾动物,体现了她的坚定。所以Barby是无私且坚定的。故选A项。
4.推理判断题。文章开篇点明“At 90 years old, Barby Keel is proving that compassion (同情心) knows no age limit.(90岁的Barby Keel证明了同情心没有年龄限制)”,奠定了全文的主旨基调。 所以“Age does not limit one’s ability to make a difference.(年龄并不能限制一个人做出贡献的能力)”最能概括作者的写作意图。故选D项。
Passage 2
(24-25高一下·江苏镇江·期末)
Miller didn’t have TikTok until she started her account and had only heard about the “negative sides” of the app. Upon her entry into the “LibraryTok” space, she found the opposite could be true.
