Passage 1
Food safety is a problem in all places around the world. Therefore, the WHO released five simple rules for preparing food in a safe way. 1
Key 1: Keep clean.
1 People should wash their hands often before touching food and while they are preparing food. People should wash all surfaces and equipment used for preparing food.
Key 2: 2
People should use different equipment and tools for touching and preparing raw (生的) foods.
Key 3: Cook completely.
People should cook eggs and meat especially carefully. These foods may carry more microorganisms (微生物) than other foods. Food like soup must be boiled for at least a minute to make it be cooked completely. 1
Key 4: Keep food at safe temperatures.
When people are finished with eating, they should keep the left food in a refrigerator below 5°C and shouldn't store it for too long. At room temperature, about 20°C, the amount of micro-organisms can increase very quickly. But temperatures above 60° C or below 5° C control the growth of microorganisms. 1
Key 5: Use safe water and raw materials.
People should use safe water and choose fresh foods. Damaged or old food may develop harmful chemicals as it gets older.
A.Separate raw and cooked.
B.Raw food should not touch prepared food.
C.This key tells about the importance of washing.
D.They call these rules the "Five Keys to Safer Food".
E.These five are golden rules for us to obey while cooking.
F.It is also important that people re-heat cooked food completely.
G.They cannot grow as quickly in a very hot or very cold environment.
Passage 2
How to Make Friends in a New School
Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be strange, and you don’t even know where to go for your own classes. 1 If you use the following skills, you can quickly turn some strangers into friends.
Be Confident
If you want to make friends, first you need to put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to show people who you are. Talk about the things you like and do best. 1 For example, join a sports team or a club, where you can meet people who share your interests.
Be Kind and Friendly
Kindness goes a long way. When you notice someone new, try to say hello to him. Offer to help him with his work, or show him around the school. 1 Remember, everyone is nervous when they are in a new environment. A small act of kindness can make others feel more comfortable, and it also shows that you are easy to get along with.
Be a Good Listener
Listening is an important part of making friends. When someone is talking to you, look at him and keep eye contact. Don’t cut them off. 1 This will make him feel like you value his opinion and want to get to know him better.
Stay Positive
No one likes to be around someone who is always complaining. Try to stay positive, even when things go wrong. 1 If you see someone feeling sad or lost, try to cheer him up. Being positive makes you more attractive to others and helps you make friends more easily.
Making new friends takes time and effort, but it’s worth it. With a little patience and the right attitude, you’ll have a group of friends in no time.
A.Try to find someone to talk to when you feel lonely.
B.It’s also a good idea to take part in activities that interest you.
C.Ask questions to show that you are interested in what he is saying.
D.You don’t need to be popular, but you do need to be respectful.
E.It can be hard to make friends at first, but don’t let that stop you.
F.Small actions like these will build trust and make people like you.
G.People are more likely to stay around positive people.
Passage 3
Building self-esteem (自尊) is significant because it directly impacts how you view and care for yourself, influencing your overall well-being. High self-esteem often reflects healthy self-care practices. 1 We can observe the following golden rules to achieve healthy self-esteem.
Write out a list of things you admire about yourself. The goal is to change your negative beliefs about yourself. It can be challenging to sit down and think about our admirable qualities. Yet recognizing your skills or things you like about yourself can improve your self-talk. You can try keeping a journal of what you enjoyed or admired. 2
Stop being a people pleaser. 3 They often put helping others before their own mental health. This can lead to great stress and burnout at work or in life. It’s nice to be helpful and thoughtful when you can. But your self-esteem will suffer when you tie it to the support for others.
4 Those with low self-esteem tend to avoid challenges and new opportunities. This can be due to fears or self-doubt. You should face difficulties bravely and try to pull through rough moments. Thus, you will gain increasing confidence in life. Of course, breaking your comfort shell doesn’t mean throwing yourself into highly dangerous situations.
Stop comparing yourself to others. Your progress and self-worth shouldn’t be connected to how well other people are doing. It’s not easy to stop comparing yourself to others. 5 Remind yourself that people only share the best parts of their life online. Don’t let likes on a photo determine your self-worth.
A.Step out of your comfort zone.
B.Learn to remove your self-doubt.
C.Staying away from social media can help this effort.
D.However, it’s no easy task to build healthy self-esteem.
E.It works wonders for improving attitude towards your life.
F.People with poor self-esteem feel dutiful to say yes to requests.
G.You need to appreciate your differences when compared to others.
Passage 4
Show someone your support
Sometimes people who are close to us go through difficult times. That could include coping with an illness or other big changes in their life. 1 Just wanting to support them is a good place to begin. Here are some ideas to consider.Let them know you care.
Your friend or family member may feel like talking about what they are going through, or they may not. It’s always appropriate to let them know you care and will be there for them. 2 Making a video expressing your love for them is another option. You could also ask them if it would be OK to bring or mail them a baked treat, or you might put together a care package.Spend time together.
3 If possible, ask if they would like to do something together, like take a walk, watch a movie, or do a puzzle. If it’s a family member who lives far away, you can ask if they want to video chat or talk on the phone. You could also send them photos of your day to help them feel connected. 4
People who care about you likely want you to keep your daily routine as much as possible, even while they are going through something challenging. But you might also be able to step in when possible, with tasks like doing the dishes, looking after a pet, or ironing clothes.Pay attention to their needs and wants.
This is often the hardest, but most important way to show you care. Even if they are just telling you a story about something silly that happened at the supermarket, it’s important that you respond appropriately. If you ignore them when it comes to simple things, they won’t feel that you care about them. 1
A.Help out with small tasks.
B.Stick to your daily routine.
C.Your presence alone can be comforting.
D.Even small gestures can mean a lot to others.
E.You could show your care by making a card with a note inside.
F.Therefore, they are much less likely to share anything deeper with you.
G.You probably wish you could do something to help but might not be sure how.

Passage 2
1 As the name suggests, the term refers to our growing tendency to outsource decisions to systems designed to predict and control our behavior.
Now, there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with accepting algorithmic suggestions. 2 But like water slowly carving stone, repeated reliance on AI recommendations can weaken our capacity for independent judgement and even our sense of self. Over time, such reliance not only affects the quality of our choices but also undermines our ability to trust our own judgements.
3 It is the capacity to make intentional choices and take purposeful action. Exercising it requires that we actively shape ourselves through thoughtful choices, rather than being passively shaped by algorithms, social norms, or external pressures.
To achieve this, practicing intentional pauses proves workable. That is, before accepting a recommendation, pause and ask, “Would I have made this choice on my own?” 4 For example, when you’re on YouTube, autoplay goes to another video. Instead of watching mindlessly, you pause and realize you’re not truly interested. You close the app and go for a walk instead, following your inner voice over automation.
To be human is to choose. It is to exercise the human capacity for intentional action, the ability we have been given to be the authors of our own lives. As AI becomes more integrated in our lives, we must actively preserve our decision-making capacities. 5
A.That is how we remain human.
B.So, it’s time to reclaim human agency.
C.In many cases they save us considerable time.
D.The aim of this question is to stay open to algorithm.
E.This short reflection brings awareness to your decisions.
F.Psychologists term this common practice “algorithmic dependence”.
G.An algorithm is a set of defined rules you follow to get a specific result.

Passage 1
Nowadays, a growing number of doctors tend to use nature as medicine to treat physical and mental health concerns. These “nature prescriptions (处方)” are not just feel-good suggestions. 1 And they are increasingly popular for the reason —They work.
Nature prescriptions don’t necessarily focus on getting exercise. 2 Here are common ways that doctors in a variety of fields are using the great outdoors to improve their patients’ health.
3 Walk mindfully through nature while focusing on all five senses, paying attention to what you can see, smell, hear, touch and even taste. Leave your digital devices at home, so you can be focused and really experience it all.
To take it to the next level, head to a forest, botanical garden, mountain or lake and enjoy “forest bathing.” 4 You are doing so not with a goal, like hiking to a destination, but simply to exist in nature and enjoy it, as if you would have a warm bath.
Other simple prescriptions include gardening, hiking, biking, swimming or picnicking. The options are almost limitless. Just as doctors say, being outdoors has nose-to-toes benefits. It takes us back to how we were designed to work; it’s like resetting our bodies. So, next time you find yourself struggling with anxiety and stress in your life, take your shoes off. 5 You might just be surprised at the healing power of nature.
A.They are likely to impact your emotion.
B.Sensory walks are an easy way to get started.
C.They are also treatments backed by scientific research.
D.Place your feet on the grass and reconnect with nature.
E.Getting outdoors is not as close to a cure-all as you will find.
F.This means completely putting yourself in a forest environment.
G.Actually, they attach more importance to being bathed in the outdoors.
Passage 2
If someone asked you if trees could talk to each other, you might say no. But scientists are listening to trees in whole new ways. Now they think the answer to that question is yes.
1 Instead, they talk to each other with the help of fungi (mushrooms) deep underground, often called the “wood wide web”, which functions like an internet for trees.
Beneath the soil, tree roots are covered in fine white threads called hyphae (菌丝), which help take in minerals and water from the soil. The fungi use some themselves and pass some to the trees they stick to. 2 These thin fungus threads can stretch for miles underground, connecting many trees and allowing them to exchange food and chemicals with each other — a tree form of communication.
Scientists first realized this when tracking carbon movement in trees. They fed one tree a special kind of carbon dioxide, and measured where it went in the roots and leaves. To their surprise, they also found the special carbon in the roots of nearby trees — even of completely different species. 3
Trees in a forest can use the underground fungus network to help each other. They send extra sugar along to sick or injured neighbors. 4 If a tree is attacked by insects, it releases defensive chemicals, which neighboring trees detect through the fungi. Those trees then produce their own repellent (驱虫剂) before the bugs arrive.
Above ground, trees use scents (气味) to communicate. In Africa, acacia trees release ethylene gas when giraffes eat their leaves. Leaves on other trees breathe in the ethylene. 5 Giraffes walk right past them and snack on a tree farther away.
So though trees may be quiet giants, they can say plenty, if you know how to listen.
A.The trees were joking!
B.The trees were sharing!
C.They also warn each other of threats.
D.Trees don’t whisper to each other on the wind.
E.This causes them to fill their leaves with poison.
F.In exchange, they absorb some sugar of the trees.
G.Trees can speak with each other through the wind.

Passage 1
Spending time in front of a computer may cause eye tiredness. Though eye tiredness typically isn’t harmful, it can cause dry and watery eyes, headache and so on. Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to protect your eyes when you use a computer.
Sit far enough away from the screen. 1 . To make sure your computer is positioned right, try the high-five test: if you can properly high-five your computer screen with a full arm extension, the distance is just right.
2 . If you’re using any books or papers while working, you can tire your eyes when you don’t position them properly. If they’re too low, your eyes will have to refocus every time you glance at them, leading to eye tiredness. Reference materials should be located above the keyboard and below the computer’s monitor.
Blink (眨眼) often. We naturally blink about 20 times every minute, but when we focus on a screen, this figure can drop by as much as half. 3 . Since your eyes won’t blink as frequently as they naturally will, you’ll have to be aware of this and force yourself to blink.
Adjust your screen brightness. Your screen should be adjusted depending on your environment. 4 . If the room is not bright, lower the settings.
Take regular breaks. It is recommended that for every two hours of looking at the computer screen, you should take a 15-minute break. 5 . This is good advice to protect not only your eyes, but your health in general.
A.Visit the eye doctor annually
B.Place reference materials properly
C.This means your eyes are at greater risk of drying out
D.Surrounding lights can reflect off your screen and tire your eyes
E.It is suitable to keep a distance of at least one arm from the screen
F.During this time, you should blink, close your eyes, and allow them to rest
G.If you’re working in a brightly lit room, you can increase the brightness settings
Passage 2
Have you ever considered pairing up with a fitness friend? 1 , but your physical performance through social interaction.Exercise is contagious (传染的)
It’s no surprise to read that motivation is a benefit of working out with friends, but do you know exactly why this is? 2 , according to a study published in the journal Nature Communications. It boosts your workout frequency
3 . People exercised more often when their friend offered emotional support and encouragement, over those offering just practical support. So, thank your workout buddy whenever they praise your effort, and do the same in return. 4
Endorphins (内啡肽) flood our system when we exercise, and this increases our tolerance to pain. People who exercise regularly can put up with physical discomfort for twice as long as those who don’t.
Having someone with you can also keep you safe. When strength training in the gym, having a trusted ‘spotter’ can ensure you lift safely. 1 , particularly if it’s dark during winter months.
A.Performance improves
B.You feel less pain and stay safe
C.It’s also handy when out running
D.It enhances not just mental health
E.We all need cheerleaders on our fitness journey
F.Exercising with friends helps us achieve our goals
G.Apparently you can ‘catch’ a desire to exercise from other people

Passage 1
Do you sometimes get caught up in overthinking and don’t know what to do about it? If so, you might benefit from trying one of these three methods to help manage overthinking, and allow your mind to rest:
●Schedule a “thinking time”
1 This time could be spent going through any worries, considering any problem-solving, or just thinking about what you need. And if something crops up outside this time, you can try to set it aside until your “thinking time”, so that it doesn’t affect your mood.
● 2
The more you actively tell yourself not to think about something, the more impossible it becomes to consider anything else. Instead, redirect your attention elsewhere. If you’re watching TV and your mind wanders into worries, grab a book, call a friend, or ask someone to play a board game. 3 However, shaking up what you’re interacting with can help the overthinking from sticking.
●Physically let things go.
1 First, write a list of all the things bothering you, divided into what you can control, and what you can’t. Tear the list of uncontrollable things up, or put it in the bin! Seeing what you can’t control clearly can help loosen the hold these worries have on you, and leave you with a list you can actively work on. Second, if you’re not even sure how to write that list, simply write down everything that’s concerning you. 2 Again, you could destroy the page when you’re done as a means of symbolically letting go.
A.Change course.
B.See the “bigger picture”.
C.It doesn’t really matter what you do.
D.There are two ways journaling can help with this.
E.Write down five things that have gone right over the past week and your role in them.
F.When it’s in writing, it’s easier to see what’s worth your worrying, and what isn’t.
G.Setting aside time for space with your thoughts can help stop your worries from affecting the rest of your day.
Passage 2
Most of us enjoy travelling, whether we’re traveling abroad, or exploring where we live. Besides relaxation of travel, it is also a wonderful way of learning more about ourselves and strengthening our social bonds.
The well-being benefits of travel are what drive us to set off. Most of us follow a routine every day. 1 Travel, whether it is a few days off, or a longer journey, is a way to relax ourselves both emotionally and mentally.
Travel is a good chance to better understand ourselves. It helps us develop awareness of not only our own existence, but also our thoughts and surroundings. 2 Moreover, it teaches us what is important and what happiness means to people.
Travel also teaches us the significance of communicating with others. Going for a walk with friends in the local countryside helped us realize that time in nature with loved ones is something we’d like to do. 3
To enjoy our travel, several aspects should be taken into consideration. Start by figuring out what we want to gain from the trip. 4 Additionally, consider what we’ve valued about the past trip, and whether this fits with what we want to do now.
5 That could be anything from visiting a new café and trying something on the menu, to challenging a new sport. When back home, keep in mind what we value in this trip. Sometimes, it’s the conversation we have with a local, or the experience of seeing the city from a new perspective that stays in our mind.
A.The time we spend in nature brings us more friends.
B.Understanding its purpose can help us plan the trip better.
C.In other words, it allows us to grasp what kind of persons we are.
D.The enjoyment of a day trip can last long after you are back home.
E.One of the most important parts of travel is experiencing something new.
F.We see the same sights and people, which leaves us feeling bored over time.
G.Terefore, we are encouraged to get out more and enjoy more time with our friends.
Passage 3
How To Change Your Mindset Today
Ready to make some changes to your negative mindset? Once you shift your perspective, you will start feeling better, and you can continue onto the path toward a successful and happy life.
Develop A Routine
1 The morning is the time of the day that can significantly impact you. If you have free time in the morning, make a good breakfast and get in a quick meditation session if possible.
Change Self-Talk
When learning how to change your mindset, do you have negative thoughts? Instead of negative emotions, focus on the language you use to change your mindset. This, again, comes back to how you start your day. Rid your life of negative self-talk. When you wake up, start planting positive affirmations and language into your head. 1
Challenge Limiting Beliefs
Limiting beliefs are a roadblock. 1 If you can challenge those limiting beliefs, you can remove negative patterns and move forward toward achieving your goals. Limiting beliefs are just stories we tell ourselves that hold no truth or value.
2
In order to change your mindset for success, you must first overcome your fears. This may seem demanding, but it is critical in the process. 3 When you have faced and conquered your fears, you will be able to move on to the next steps of changing your mindset.
Once you change your mindset, you will be able to make those changes and start seeking out the positive. Doing this can often turn your entire life around.
A.Face Your Fears
B.Stick to your fixed mindset
C.It will be a long step for you to work through.
D.Leave your place of fear and face new opportunities.
E.Start your day by developing a more intentional routine.
F.It will help you feel more focused and energized for the day.
G.It prevents you from achieving your dreams and changing your mindset.
Passage 4
Our homes use a lot of energy. The huge amounts of energy used to operate buildings result in more than a fourth of the world’s carbon dioxide pollution. One home climate solution is to turn to appliances (电器) that make less pollution. 1 Climate solutions for reducing home energy use can be extremely simple.
● Open a window.
In the spring or evenings, instead of turning on the air conditioner, all you need to do is open your windows to be comfortable. It’s even better if you have cross-facing windows in your home. 1 Researchers find that using natural ventilation (通风) can translate into huge energy savings.
● Don’t forget ceiling fans.
Try turning it on if you have a ceiling fan. While ceiling fans cannot lower the air temperature, they can provide increased cooling by moving the air around.
1 Using ceiling fans compared to air conditioners can reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by 76%.
● Put your shades outside, not inside.
If you have a blind (百叶窗帘) or curtain inside your house, the sunlight coming in brings the heat inside. If you close the blind or curtain, you’re basically creating a sort of pillow of heat between the curtain and the window. That’s why climate-minded designers are fixing blinds or shades on the outside of houses, not on the inside. 1
● Seal (密封) it up.
In cold months, you want to make sure heat isn’t escaping your house into the outdoors through the leaks in windows. 1 But for something cheaper, you can do “weather stripping”—using a type of tape or rubber around your window frame to seal the leaks. The materials often cost under $10.
A.So, sunlight brings the heat inside.
B.Open them up to create a cross breeze.
C.One solution is to buy better windows.
D.That way the heat stays outside your house.
E.Fans use a lot less energy than air conditioning.
F.But it turns out that you don’t have to buy new ones.
G.Wind always finds a way to escape through the easiest path.
Passage 5
You are enjoying a nice dream until your alarm suddenly goes off. 1 Is your clock out of control? No. It’s just winter, making the sun rise later so it will be twice as hard to crawl out of bed into the cold darkness.
As the day gets shorter, our mornings lose that crucial light to wake us up, so waking up gets harder. That means you’ll need to put in extra effort to get to work on time. 2
3 Summer or winter, you should aim to go to bed at about the same time every evening and wake up at about the same time every morning. Try to give yourself time for eight hours per night.
Avoid strong light near your bedtime. So if you like reading before you close your eyes, try an actual book or an E-ink screen, which doesn’t emit (发出) the harsh light that phones and tablets do.
Buy a wake-up light. If you still have trouble with dark mornings, it might be time to introduce more light into your room. 1
Give yourself something to look forward to. 2 Sure, you might have to get up for work, but you’ll want to be awake if you are expecting a delicious breakfast, or a workout that is actually fun.
A.Stick to a regular schedule.
B.We have a few tips that might help.
C.Too much light can do harm to your eyes.
D.But you just don’t want to get out of your warm bed.
E.But when you look out of the window, it’s still black outside.
F.Waking up is easier when you have a good reason to be conscious.
G.Some companies make some popular lamps that produce natural light during gray winter days.

Passage 1
Followers of science news may have seen similar exciting headlines over the years, from “New super-enzyme (酶) eats plastic bottles six times faster” to “Plastic-eating bacteria could help aid global recycling efforts”. 1 But why do these bacteria and the enzymes we’ve engineered still fall short in handling the problem? It turns out there are a few reasons.
Plastic isn’t all the same. Many enzymes or bacteria only work for one specific kind of plastic, and much of our rubbish combines several kinds of plastic. 2 It’s chemically easier to break down than other types used in plastic film and food packaging. In other words, most of these solutions fail to solve our plastic problem entirely.
3 Often, the reactions or bacteria only work at certain temperatures, in special environments, or after extended periods of time. The harder it is to create the conditions, the less practical it is to do it widely.
They cost too much. These processes can be expensive. Further, most solutions simply break down plastic to its original chemical units, which are really only useful for creating more plastic. 4 One, it doesn’t reduce the amount of plastic in the world. Two, making new plastic is already really cheap.
So, for now, these technologies could really only be used within our existing recycling systems, rather than being a completely new choice. 5
A.This has two problems.
B.Fortunately, there’s also some good news.
C.Many solutions work under special conditions.
D.We don’t need the super bacteria to do our dirty work
E.Such headlines suggest the plastic problem is nearing a solution.
F.We still have to process all the plastic we want the bacteria to eat.
G.Most recycling efforts focus on a widely used plastic called PET.
Passage 2
My neighbor has a beautiful lawn. He hates to see even one weed in it. I understand his feelings but I accept a little more of a natural look. Every year, the spring rains cause weeds to appear everywhere, especially in the lawn. 1 There is one weed killer for killing weeds in paths, another for killing weeds in flower beds, another for killing grass in flower beds and yet another for killing weeds in grass.
One day when I got home from work, he was killing the dandelions (蒲公英) growing at the side of my house. “I’m sure that you will be happy with me killing these weeds for you,” he said.
Knowing he meant well, I thanked him. 1 I happen to like dandelions. For me, even in something as simple as a dandelion, there is art. In fact, there is even poetry in a dandelion!
2 They certainly do grow where nothing else does, like along the side of my house. The flowers are a pretty bright yellow. They form their own picture of golden color around my washing line, something like a crazy artwork.
The flowers also add fine flavor and color when dropped in ice water. 3 They also add vitamins. I’ve been told that the leaves and roots contain vitamins A, B and C as well as minerals such as iron and calcium. It does not taste that great, but it certainly is good for you.
Actually, dandelions are common and delicate, so we label them weeds and kill them. But I say that they are works of art, carefully made by nature’s magical hand. As the season progresses, the flower turns into puffy seeds that can float in the wind. If you blow the round head of seeds gently but firmly, the seeds fly away, forming a kind of art on the move.
So in the dandelion are both art and poetry. 1
A.However, deep inside, I felt saddened.
B.They can make food not only tasty but nutritious.
C.Dandelions can be used for many different purposes.
D.He then starts to mix up all his different poisons in his garage.
E.Do you know that the leaves can be used in a salad to make it tastier?
F.But to be honest, I didn’t want dandelions to grow freely in my garden.
G.Let nature’s art and beauty never stop to fill you with joy and amazement.
Passage 3
Rates of depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses have been increasing in teenagers for at least a decade. 1 . New data has confirmed that it could be a contributor. But how big a role it plays also appears to depend on how kids choose to use it.
Over the past decades, the Internet has done some great things. It has brought people closer together. 2 And it can be an important place for people to find support and connection.
No surprise, Generation Z is living online more than ever. But some teenagers can come across content that is harmful. For example, one 2022 survey found that nearly half of all teens have been cyberbullied (网络欺凌) online.
1 Am I pretty enough? Strong enough? Smart enough? Cool enough? One study of teenagers 13 to 17 years old found that almost half reported that time spent on social media made them feel worse about their bodies. Only about one in every seven said viewing social media made them feel better.
In May 2023, the U. S. Surgeon General issued a warning about kids’ social-media use. 2 But there was plenty of evidence to warn kids that they should take care when using it.
Whitlock, a research psychologist who has been studying Internet use by teenagers since the early 2000s, asks teens she works with to put together a “menu of practices” that promote good mental health. 3 She also suggests that if kids feel anxious, they should go back to that menu again and do something from their list-instead of looking for distractions (干扰) on their phone and social media.
A.It has helped people form big communities worldwide.
B.Two-thirds of teens have seen hateful content on social media.
C.It should include things they enjoy, like reading or outdoor time.
D.Social media is also where people are comparing themselves to others.
E.In recent years, scientists have often flagged social media as one potential cause.
F.It concluded there was still not enough evidence to say social media is safe for kids.
G.She pointed out that it’s hard to study the impacts of social media on mental health.

【答案】1.F 2.C 3.B 4.E 5.A
1.前文“When you log into social media, does an algorithm (算法) govern your feed? When shopping online, do you often focus on top-listed, AI-suggested items? If you answer “Yes”, most of the time, you go along with what the algorithm recommends. (当你登录社交媒体时,是否有算法管理你的推送?网上购物时,你是否常关注AI推荐的置顶商品?如果回答“是”,大多数时候你会听从算法推荐)”描述人们普遍跟随算法推荐的行为,后文“As the name suggests, the term refers to our growing tendency to outsource decisions to systems designed to predict and control our behavior. (顾名思义,这个术语指的是我们日益倾向于将决策权交给那些旨在预测和控制我们行为的系统)”给出对这一现象的专业定义,因此F项“Psychologists term this common practice “algorithmic dependence”. (心理学家将这种常见现象称为“算法依赖”)”符合语境,给出该现象的术语,承前启后,其中的this common practice指代前文行为,algorithmic dependence是后文的the term指代的对象。故选F。
2.前文“Now, there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with accepting algorithmic suggestions. (现在,接受算法建议从根本上来说并无不妥)”肯定算法的合理性,后文“But like water slowly carving stone, repeated reliance on AI recommendations can weaken our capacity for independent judgement and even our sense of self. (但正如滴水穿石般,对AI推荐的反复依赖会逐渐削弱我们独立判断的能力,甚至动摇自我认知的根基)”指出长期依赖算法的危害,因此C项“In many cases they save us considerable time. (在许多情况下,它们为我们节省大量时间)”符合语境,具体说明算法节省时间的益处,承接前文,和后文构成转折,其中的they指代前文的algorithmic suggestions。故选C。
3.后文“It is the capacity to make intentional choices and take purposeful action. (它是做出有意选择和采取有目的行动的能力)”讨论人类自主决策能力,因此B项“So, it’s time to reclaim human agency. (因此,是时候重新找回人类的自主权了)”符合语境,引出对自主决策的呼吁,统领段落,其中的human agency是后文It指代的对象。故选B。
4.前文“That is, before accepting a recommendation, pause and ask, “Would I have made this choice on my own?”(也就是说,在接受一个推荐之前,停下来问问自己:“如果完全由我自己决定,我会做出同样的选择吗?”)”给出有意停顿的具体方法,因此E项“This short reflection brings awareness to your decisions. (这种短暂反思会让你对决策有清醒认知)”符合语境,指出方法的有效性,承接前文。故选E。
5.前文“As AI becomes more integrated in our lives, we must actively preserve our decision-making capacities. (随着AI深度融入生活,我们必须积极维护决策能力)”总结维护自主决策的必要性,因此A项“That is how we remain human. (这便是我们保持人性的方式)”符合语境,将自主决策提升至人性本质的高度,以哲学视角收束全文,强化核心论点。故选A。

1.根据下文“Instead, they talk to each other with the help of fungi (mushrooms) deep underground, often called the “wood wide web”, which functions like an internet for trees. (相反,它们在地下深处的真菌(蘑菇)的帮助下相互交流,这种真菌通常被称为“木质宽网”,它的功能就像树木的互联网。)”可知,树木并不是通过风来相互低语交流的,而是通过地下的真菌网络。D选项“Trees don’t whisper to each other on the wind. (树木不会在风中相互低语。)”与下文形成转折关系,引出地下交流方式。故选D项。
2.根据上文“Beneath the soil, tree roots are covered in fine white threads called hyphae (菌丝), which help take in minerals and water from the soil. The fungi use some themselves and pass some to the trees they stick to. (在土壤之下,树根被称为菌丝的白色细丝所覆盖,菌丝有助于从土壤中吸收矿物质和水分。真菌自己使用一些,并将一些传递给它们附着的树木。)”可知,真菌会从树木那里获取一些糖分作为回报。F选项“In exchange, they absorb some sugar of the trees. (作为交换,它们吸收树木的一些糖分。)” 与上文“pass some to the trees”形成呼应,逻辑连贯。故选F项。
3.根据上文“To their surprise, they also found the special carbon in the roots of nearby trees — even of completely different species. (令他们惊讶的是,他们还在附近树木的根部发现了这种特殊的碳 —— 甚至是完全不同种类的树木。)”可知,科学家发现特殊碳出现在邻近树木中,树木之间在共享资源。B选项“The trees were sharing! (树木在共享!)”总结了这一发现,即树木通过真菌网络交换物质,作为实验结论,符合题意。故选B项。
4.根据下文“If a tree is attacked by insects, it releases defensive chemicals, which neighboring trees detect through the fungi. Those trees then produce their own repellent (驱虫剂) before the bugs arrive. (如果一棵树受到昆虫的攻击,它会释放出防御性化学物质,附近的树木通过真菌检测到这些化学物质。然后,这些树在虫子到来之前就会产生自己的驱虫剂。)”可知,树木之间会相互警告威胁。C选项“They also warn each other of threats. (它们还会相互警告威胁。)” 概括了树木通过真菌网络传递危险信号的功能,与下文“release defensive chemicals”衔接。故选C项。
5.根据上文“In Africa, acacia trees release ethylene gas when giraffes eat their leaves. Leaves on other trees breathe in the ethylene. (在非洲,当长颈鹿吃金合欢树的叶子时,金合欢树会释放乙烯气体。其他树上的叶子会吸入乙烯。)”以及下文“Giraffes walk right past them and snack on a tree farther away. (长颈鹿直接从它们身边走过,到更远的树上吃零食。)”可知,乙烯气体使其他树的叶子充满毒素,从而驱赶长颈鹿。E选项“This causes them to fill their leaves with poison. (这使它们的叶子充满了毒素。)”解释了乙烯的作用结果,与下文长颈鹿避开这些树的情节一致。故选E项。

1.根据上文“Sit far enough away from the screen.(坐得离屏幕足够远)”可知,本段主题是保持与屏幕的适当距离,下文“To make sure your computer is positioned right, try the high-five test: if you can properly high-five your computer screen with a full arm extension, the distance is just right.(为了确保你的电脑位置正确,试着击掌测试:如果你能适当地与电脑屏幕击掌并伸直手臂,距离就刚刚好)”提到确认距离是否合适,E项“与屏幕保持至少一只手臂的距离是合适的”与上下文完全契合,既解释了“足够远”的具体距离,又与“”手臂完全伸展”的逻辑一致,故选E。
2.下文“If you’re using any books or papers while working, you can tire your eyes when you don’t position them properly. If they’re too low, your eyes will have to refocus every time you glance at them, leading to eye tiredness. Reference materials should be located above the keyboard and below the computer’s monitor.(如果你在工作时使用任何书籍或文件,当你没有正确地放置它们时,你会疲劳你的眼睛。如果它们太低,你的眼睛在每次看它们的时候都必须重新聚焦,导致眼睛疲劳。参考资料应放在键盘上方和电脑显示器下方)”详细说明材料位置不当的后果,并建议将材料放在键盘上方和显示器下方,B项“正确摆放参考材料”是段落主旨的概括,与下文内容直接对应,故选B。
3.上文“We naturally blink about 20 times every minute, but when we focus on a screen, this figure can drop by as much as half.(我们每分钟自然眨眼约20次,但当我们专注于屏幕时,这个数字可能会下降一半)”提到盯着屏幕时眨眼次数减少,下文“Since your eyes won’t blink as frequently as they naturally will, you’ll have to be aware of this and force yourself to blink.(因为你的眼睛不会像自然眨得那么频繁,你必须意识到这一点,强迫自己眨眼)”强调需要主动眨眼,C项“这意味着眼睛更容易干涩”是眨眼减少的直接后果,填后形成“原因(眨眼少)——结果(干涩)——解决方案(主动眨眼)”的完整逻辑链,故选C。
4.上文“Your screen should be adjusted depending on your environment.(您的屏幕应该根据您的环境进行调整)”提到亮度需随环境调整,下文“If the room is not bright, lower the settings.(如果房间不明亮,调低设置)”提到如果房间不亮就调低设置,G项“在光线明亮的房间可以调高亮度”与后文形成对比(明亮调高vs昏暗调低),是合理的并列关系,故选G。
5.上文“It is recommended that for every two hours of looking at the computer screen, you should take a 15-minute break.(建议每盯着电脑屏幕看两个小时,就休息15分钟)”建议每两小时休息15分钟,下文“This is good advice to protect not only your eyes, but your health in general.(这是一个很好的建议,不仅可以保护你的眼睛,还可以保护你的健康)”总结这种休息对健康的好处,F项“在此期间应眨眼、闭眼让眼睛休息”具体说明如何利用休息时间保护眼睛,与后文的“保护眼睛和健康”形成递进关系,故选F。

【答案】1.G 2.A 3.C 4.D 5.F

【答案】1.F 2.B 3.E 4.D 5.C

5.根据上文“In cold months, you want to make sure heat isn’t escaping your house into the outdoors through the leaks in windows.(在寒冷的月份,你要确保热量不会通过窗户的缝隙从房子里漏到户外。)”和下文“But for something cheaper, you can do “weather stripping”—using a type of tape or rubber around your window frame to seal the leaks.(但对于更便宜的东西,你可以做“防风雨条”——在你的窗框周围使用一种胶带或橡胶来密封裂缝。)”

【答案】1.E 2.G 3.C 4.A 5.F
1.根据上文“Followers of science news may have seen similar exciting headlines over the years, from “New super-enzyme (酶) eats plastic bottles six times faster” to “Plastic-eating bacteria could help aid global recycling efforts”. 4.根据下文“One, it doesn’t reduce the amount of plastic in the world. Two, making new plastic is already really cheap. (第一,它不会减少世界上的塑料量。第二,制造新塑料已经非常便宜了)”可知,下文介绍了分解塑料存在的两个问题,A项意为“这有两个问题。”,选项能够引起下文,下文介绍了两个问题是什么。故选A。
5.根据上文“So, for now, these technologies could really only be used within our existing recycling systems, rather than being a completely new choice. (因此,就目前而言,这些技术只能在我们现有的回收系统中使用,而不是一个全新的选择)”可知,上文告诉我们目前的塑料处理方法存在限制,F项意为“我们仍然需要处理所有我们希望细菌吃掉的塑料。”,选项能够承接上文,因为塑料处理方法存在限制,所以我们仍然需要处理所有我们希望细菌吃掉的塑料。故选F。
【答案】1.D 2.A 3.C 4.E 5.G

2.由上文“Knowing he meant well, I thanked him.(我知道他好意,便谢了他。)”及下文“I happen to like dandelions.(我偏偏喜欢蒲公英。)” A项However, deep inside, I felt saddened.(然而,内心深处我感到难过。) 故选A项。
3.由下文“They certainly do grow where nothing else does, like along the side of my house. The flowers are a pretty bright yellow. They form their own picture of golden color around my washing line, something like a crazy artwork.(它们确实在其他地方生长,比如我家旁边。这些花是很亮的黄色。他们在我的晾衣绳周围形成了自己的金色图案,就像一件疯狂的艺术品。)”可知,此处需总述蒲公英的特点。C项Dandelions can be used for many different purposes.(蒲公英有许多不同用途。)
4.由上文“The flowers also add fine flavor and color when dropped in ice water.(花朵放入冰水中也能增添风味和色泽。)”及下文“They also add vitamins.(它们还富含维生素。)” Do you know that the leaves can be used in a salad to make it tastier?(你知道叶子能用于沙拉使其更美味吗?)中“leaves can be used in a salad”呼应“flowers add flavor”,通过“叶子 — 花朵”的不同部位举例,延续“食用价值”的论述,tastier与flavor形成语义衔接,且设问句式增强互动性。故选E项。
5.由上文“So in the dandelion are both art and poetry.(因此蒲公英兼具艺术与诗意。)” Let nature’s art and beauty never stop to fill you with joy and amazement.(让自然的艺术与美丽永远带给你喜悦与惊叹。)中“nature’s art and beauty”指代蒲公英的“art and poetry”,“fill you with joy”呼吁珍视自然之美,与前文“works of art by nature’s hand”形成首尾呼应,将蒲公英的个体特质升华为对自然的欣赏。故选G项。
【答案】1.E 2.A 3.D 4.F 5.C

2.上文提到“Over the past decades, the Internet has done some great things. It has brought people closer together.(过去几十年里,互联网做了一些伟大的事情。它让人们更紧密地联系在一起。)”,列举互联网的积极影响。A 项It has helped people form big communities worldwide.(它帮助人们在全球范围内形成大型社区。)以“It has helped”延续并列结构,“form big communities” 是对“brought people closer”的具体展开,进一步说明互联网的积极作用,符合语境。故选A项。
Strong enough? Smart enough? Cool enough? (我够漂亮吗?足够强壮?够聪明吗?够酷吗?)”,并提到“social media made them feel worse about their bodies(社交媒体让他们对自己的身体感觉更糟)”,体现青少年在社交媒体上的自我比较。D项Social media is also where people are comparing themselves to others.(社交媒体也是人们互相比较的地方。)
4.上文提到“the U. S. Surgeon General issued a warning about kids’ social-media use.(美国卫生局局长就儿童社交媒体使用发出警告。)” 空格后“But there was plenty of evidence to warn kids that they should take care when using it.(但有大量证据警告孩子们使用时应小心。)” It concluded there was still not enough evidence to say social media is safe for kids.(其结论是,仍没有足够证据表明社交媒体对孩子是安全的。)中“concluded”对应“issued a warning”,“not enough evidence to say it’s safe”与后文“plenty of evidence to warn”形成转折逻辑,符合“警告”的语境。故选F项。
5.上文提到“Whitlock asks teens to put together a ‘menu of practices’ that promote good mental health.(惠特洛克要求青少年整理一份促进心理健康的‘实践菜单’。)”,关键词为“menu of practices”。C项It should include things they enjoy, like reading or outdoor time.(它应该包括他们喜欢的事情,比如阅读或户外活动时间。)中It指代menu,“include things they enjoy”具体说明菜单内容,与后文“She also suggests that if kids feel anxious, they should go back to that menu again and do something from their list”中的list形成呼应,符合逻辑。故选C项。
